Error 1607 (from InstallShield)

HELP!
I took the advice of apple on trying to get quicktime to work for me and it only led to further problems.
In safe mode,
I attempted to install the standalone version of quicktime.
When the status bar was almost near completion, an error window popped up displaying the following message:
[InstallShield]
1607. Unable to install InstallShield Scripting Runtime.
Following the error, I restarted in regular mode, downloaded DirectX [lastest version], as well as redownloading the standalone version, and then itunes version of software.
I also used cCleaner to clear up any errors.
I re-entered safe mode, installed Direct X successfully, and then proceeded to try the standalone quicktime version, again receiving error 1607.
Next I proceeded to try to install the itunes package, but error 1607 reappeared.
I restarted into regular mode and installed quicktime and then itunes and now I am back to square one. Music videos, trailers, anything with Quicktime causes the program/plug-in program to quit.
Please provide some insite for me. I am so frustrated with trying to get this to work.
.brokenrocker1.

DirectX is not going to have anything to do with installing QT. Updating XP OS to SP2 could possibly, according to Apple, also SP2 will update DirectX and Windows Installer.
I recieved the same errors when trying to install QT7 when the final version was released. I am convinced that the problem lies with clearing the registry of previous QT entrees. I would start with removing QT by the add/remove control panel and then a search of the computer for left over componets and then clear enerything from the registry, I mean everything! I've posted over and over on this, I don't know if they don't know how to go into the registry, who knows.
Anyway some folks have used registry clean expert and it worked for them, and here are a couple of links that have supposedly helped.

  • InstallShield Error 1607

I need help connecting my ipod mini (purchased about 9 months ago but never used) to a brand new Sony VAIO laptop, model series VGN FS. When I tried to install itunes or the ipod software from either the CD or the web (I've tried both) I can download, but then when I try to install the software I get Error 1607 on Installshield. This does not happen with other software I have installed on my new computer (like Microsoft office, Sophos etc.). I have looked at the Installshield web site and (a) it is too complicated for me, and (b) I do not want to do anything to disturb my other computer settings. How do I get the ipod mini to connect and work? Thanks for any help.

  • Error 1607--I know there's alot of these threads, but PLEASE read.

First of all, I have searched this error in the discussion boards & read alot of posts & gone to the links listed.
My computer came with Itunes on it, however, it said that I needed to update the version either by software CD or from the website. I tried the CD, than downloading from the internet. During the setup, it completes the Ipod download. Then when it starts the Itunes download, it shows the Error 1607. I've tried uninstalling all quicktime, itunes, & ipod software. I've disabled my antivirus & antispyware stuff. I am the only user, so I have administrative rights.
I've also looked at the 3 scenario links on the Ipod website. I seem to have problems while working through the steps on those. To hopefully get a better solution, I'll try to explain step-by-step what I've come to.
    1. iTunes for Windows installation quits with 1607 error, while publishing product information, or is interrupted (Scenario 1)
----When I go to this link, it tells me I need to re-install windows. I can't find that CD (i know i have it somewhere). And, I would kinda like that to be my last resort because I don't want to have to save all my files, etc. I've downloaded & put things on my computer alot before with no problems, and the Ipod part of the download worked, just not the Itunes part. So doesn't that mean it's not the installer?
    2. You may receive a "1607:Unable to install InstallShield Scripting runtime" error message when you try to install software in Windows XP (Scenario 2)
----"To reinstall the InstallScript engine from InstallShield Developer."
    * When I get into Windows Explorer, I can't find a file called InstallShield.
----"Running Setup from a virtual drive"
    * I did what this said, but nothing ever came up.
    ----"Register Idriver and Msiexec"
    * At this step, when I try to run the two things it tells me to, it says it cannot be found.
    ----"Change Permissions"
*I've changed settings to show all files.
*When I search for C:\Windows\Installer, I don't get an installer folder. Instead, I have a bunch of folders with titles like this "{0EB5D9B7-8E6C-4A9E-B74F-16B7EE89A67B}".
----"Stop other instances of Windows Installer"
*When I look at the processes I have none of these things.
    3. Error -1607: Unable to Install InstallShield Scripting Run Time (Scenario 3)
----"Update the ISScript engine on your computer by downloading the latest one."
    * I went to that next link and downloaded that, & I have a IsScript7 icon on my desktop so I assume that did what it was supposed to?
----"Make sure that the Installer folder in the Windows directory has full access privileges."
    *Already done in Scenario 2.
    ----"Set the Installer folder attributes."
*Like I said above, I get folders with really long number/letter names. I don't have an "installer" folder to click on.
----"Make sure that the InstallShield registry key in the Windows registry has full access privileges."
*I changed all to full control.
Okay, so I hope I have been specific enough so that I don't get "go to this website & do these steps." I understand that people probably ask this question all the time & I REALLY have tried to fix this. I just don't know what to do.

    hi Grant!
I have tried all the solutions suggested by Apple's support troubleshooting information but still can't seem to get around this error. Has anyone had any experience with this error and found a solution that hasn't been mentioned?
okay, it already sounds like you've found this:

    ... and this:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=300361

... and the InstallShield Tips and Pointers on installation best practices are also useful when dealing with a recalcitrant 1607:

  • Error 1607 - Still can't install or upgrade to new iTunes

I was having various problems trying to remove the old version of my iTunes, however I over came those. I thought for sure once I got rid of the older version of my iTunes I'd be able to install the newer version. However that doesn't seem the case. I've updated my computer numerous times, turned off my anti-virus, and even tried downloading Quicktime seperately, which failed as well.
When I try to install the new version of iTunes on my computer, from CD or from the internet, I received the following error:
Error 1607: Unable to install InstallShiel Scripting Runtime.
I've tried the touble shooting on the following link:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93976
    With no luck.
Can anyone help? All I want is to install iTunes to put music on my new iPod.
    Thanks for any help!!

    Ok this is what happenes.
I tried to "Reinstall the InstallScript engine"
However when I do so and type in the file path on my Windows Explorer I get the following Error:
Cannot find 'file:///C:/Program%20Files/InstallShield/Developer/Redist/Language20%Indpenede nt/i386'. Make sure the path or Internet address is correct.
"Running Setup from a virtual drive"
This seemed to work, I didn't receive any Error msg when I followed this step.
"Register Idriver and Msiexec" When I tried this step, again I received a Error msg:
"C:\Program Files\Common Files\InstallShield\Developer\7\Intel 32 refers to a location that is unavailable. It could be on a hard drive on this computer, or on a network. Check to make sure that the dick is properly inserted, or that you are connected to the internet or your network, and then try again. If it still cannot be located, the information may have been moved to another location.
When I try the 2. in this step I receive a box saying: An event was unable to invoke any of the subscribers.
    "Change Permissions"
On this step I can get to the "Installer Folder" However when I right click there is not a security tab for me to click on???
"Stop other instances of Windows Installer"
Checked in the Processes and there wasn't another Msiexec.exe running.
Sorry for all the trouble, I'm so close to installing this, It's probably something really minor or stupid mistake on my part. Any ideas? Oh and FYI, I had a few Trojans on my computer, which I got rid of already....but do you think this could be a reason why iTunes won't install??
Any feedback helps, thanks once again!!

  • Error 1607 Any other suggestions?

Hi Guys...it really is wonderful to see so many people trying to help each other out of this jam. I have followed the various pages to try to get my download to work. I think the problem is with my Windows Installer, it says it successfully downloaded, but then the Windows Installer Cleanup program will not install, because it says my Windows Installer is not installed properly.
When I try to download QT v7 standalone I get the Error 1607 unable to install Installshield Scripting Runtime. (I have removed all previous versions of QT)
When I try to download ITunes I get the same Error 1607. (I don't have any previous versions of ITunes, this is my first ipod)
Is there anything I can try to make my Windows Installer work?
    Thanks so much!

    hi toonz, bnoir,
I rushed home this evening because i was so confident that this was the fix that was going to do the trick. it made so much sense, that this setting would prevent windows installer from operating as it should, but alas, here i sit broken hearted because next to "Impersonate a client after authentication" there are two columns "Local Setting" & "Effective Setting", under both of these columns it says: "Administrators, Service, Gerry\ASPNET"
to reply to bnoir, from above entry, I could not capture a print screen of the windows installer error message, i think it didn't work because it is a pop-up and when i try to cut and paste it into paint there is nothing to paste when i get to paint. Anyway, the pop-up title is Windows Installer, then the body of the pop-up message says: "The Windows Installer Service could not be accessed. This can occur if you are running Windows in safe mode, or if the Windows Installer is not correctly installed. Contact your support personnel for assistance."
any and all further ideas and suggestions would be greatly appreciated

  • Trying to install iPod software on Windows XP - keep getting Error 1607!!

We bought my daughter an iPod for Christmas. I've been trying to get the software installed for over two hours!! I've been to the website for the download, I've tried it from the CD, I've tried it from links in these posts--nothing works!! I keep getting Error 1607 (a runtime error). When I go to the step by step solutions, absolutely NONE of them apply to me. It sounds (reads) like alot of people are having this issues today. Has anyone found a REAL solution!!

Exactly the same problem ! Ruined my son's Christmas ! Can't get through apple's tech support due to high volume of calls. If you read their return policy if it's DOA(Dead On Arrival) your entiteled to a refund or exchange. Call 1800 275-2273, good luck getting through. I dont feel after spending that kind of money I should have to waste hours upon hours on downloads, upgrades and software installations and still may have problems once you get to I-tunes.They have a hugh problem here ! Hopefully they have a better consumer care policy and give people their money back ! Good Luck, AC

  • Error 1607 Help...have tried and failed

I'm trying to install iTunes 6.0 and the "Error -1607: Unable to Install InstallShield Scripting Run Time" message comes up every time. So I went to the guide that b noir suggested and attempted the first solution on "http://consumer.installshield.com/kb.asp?id=Q108158". (the isscript thing) so I went through the steps and looked at the file version of the installation file and found it to be 6..... and nothing was said about anything beginning with 6. I ran through everything else on the page just for kicks but none of it worked. so I'm guessing that could be the problem and I was hoping someone could help me out. otherwise I have no idea what's wrong with this thing.

    hi Garrick!
"http://consumer.installshield.com/kb.asp?id=Q108158". (the isscript thing) so I went through the steps and looked at the file version of the installation file and found it to be 6.....
just checking. were you right-clicking on the
    b itunessetup.exe
    file itself?
there's actually a much better version of that particular document here (must remember to warn people about this in future):
    http://consumer.installshield.com/kb.asp?id=Q108322
step 1 d should guide you through the version-checking procedure that works for itunes installs.
many thanks for the heads up! keep us posted.

  • ERROR: 1607

I tried connecting my shuffle for the first time in about 3 weeks, and it wasnt recognized by iTunes (normally iTunes just pops up when the shuffle is plugged into the usb port.) I manually opened iTunes and it said that it could not recogzize my iPod, and that I needed the new update of iTunes to update my iPod. So I download the newest iTunes and I get error 1607, which prevents install shield from opening. I did all of the little things that could be preventing an install like restarting the computer and such. Still it did not work. So I downloaded the newest iPod software thinking that I may just need to update my iPod, but I ran into the same error. Both softwares freeze up at the install shield and give me an error 1607. What can I do? I have an iPod that is useless now.

  • Installation error 1607: InstallSheet Scripting Runtime cannot be insalled

I was installing the upgrade 6.0.5 and it got stuck when installing the quicktime part so that I had to terminate the process. When I try to install again I get the error message: Installation error 1607: InstallSheet Scripting Runtime cannot be insalled. What can I do ?

Thanks for your suggestions; they helped me get further along in the resolution of my problem, but did not get me completely there.
I, too, have experienced the same problem tonight the OP had. Earlier tonight (before viewing this thread), I tried installing the latest update to Quick Time and was unable to complete it due to a problem, apparently, with InstallShield. The error message read "1607: Unable to install InstallShield scripting runtime." I found this thread and did as you suggested. I de-activated my firewall (Zone Alarm) and anti-virus (AVG) programs and installed the update, through the address you posted, to my desktop. When I opened the install, the install progressed somewhat further than earlier installs tonight, but then got hung up and the same message appeared. I would greatly appreciate any other suggestions or advice you or anyone else may have so I can resolve this problem. Thanks!

  • Error 1607 - Can't download IPOD software!!!

Please help, I am being driven mad with this. I'm on Windows XP, and have tried numerous times to download the mini IPOD software, it gets to a certain point and I get the error 1607 - Now I've been online and followed all the fixes to fix the error and still no success. Have no idea what else to do and the support from apple on these seems to be virtually non existent. Does anyone have any suggestions - would be hugely appreciated

    Thanks for replying.
Yes I had already looked there and tried all of the fixes. There was one of the fixes I couldn't do however as I couldn't find the folder/files it was referring to - I managed all the others however.
At a complete loss now....doesn't seem I can even get a refund now either!
    Any ideas? Thanks

I found the installActions file in the installer folder and I think this could be the problem

though I am attaching the log file for more details do you think the installer is corrupt :(
