This is windows 7 user, trying to install Ovi Suite, but installation failed due to error msg: 1618.
How to solve this problem?

Error 1618: Another installation is already in progress. Complete that installation before proceeding with this install.
This issue occurs because Microsoft Windows Installer can only run one installation at a time unless it is a nested installation.

It's possible that for some reason there is a Windows installer session hanging on the background. Reboot should fix this.

Try a hard reset and see if you can get the Apple logo to light up.

I believe that when you reset your ipod(command given from the computer, right?) touch WHILE the ipod was updating, It cleared the system in the middle of writing files, thus corrupting(equivalent of cutting of in the middle of a sentence) the basic running system.
I suggest you go to an apple store and ask for a technical diagonosis in person. they may offer to help if the problem is fixable. If your ipod is still under warrenty, i would guess it would be free/low cost.

well i recently had trouble with my ipod shuffle, at first the green light wouldnt turn off, so then i reset it (toggeled the switch up and down) and then it no longer had any songs on it. Fine, so then i attempted to plug it back into my computer through a usb cord, and it wouldnt recognize it, so i tried the other six, and still no luck. I then uninstalled itunes and the ipod programs, and installed them once more. However they werent functioning properly because my computer froze or the programs wouldnt run (programs ei. ipod updater) so i uninstalled once again and attempted to install them once more. However i couldnt, an error interrupted the process and it didnt fully download, so i tried to uninstall, and and error box, during the uninstallation process pops up and says (Error -1618 Another installation is already in process Complete that installation before proceeding with this install). So i can no longer uninstall it to reinstall it. Please help, its driving me nuts

I can not reinstall the Flash or Fireworks components of my Adobe CS4. I get this error message: Error 1618. Another installation is already in progress. I am attempting to reinstall Adobe Creative Suite 4 because Acrobat was not interfacing with my Microsoft Word. Reinstalling Creative Suite reinstalled Acrobat which now interfaces correctly with Microsoft Word but I can not reinstall Flash or Fireworks which had been working fine. I open my task manager and shut off any unnecessary processes and disable my Norton firewall and antivirus. I have tried multiple times, restarting my computer after uninstalling CS4 before trying to reinstall. Does anyone have any ideas as to how to fix this?

Error 1618 when trying to uninstall Labview Runtime system.

Hello list,
I'm trying to uninstall the following on a Windows 7 machine: LV2011 runtime, Max 5.11, Visa runtime 5.1.1 & Datasocket Server.
I got an error 1618 with Windows Control Panel & MSIBlast.
I have full Admin rights on the box - Any ideas, or should I just re-image the HD & start over?

I seem to be having a similar issue. I have several version of LabVIEW installed (8.5 through 2012) as well as NI-VISA, NIDAQmx and 488.2.
I recently installed a very old executable application that was built in LabVIEW6. This also installed the LV6 RTE. The application seemed to work and when I was done with it, I uninstalled it. Now, I can't say for sure that this is what caused my problem as I did not try running any of my newer applications or LV2012 immediately after this. But since that time, my executables built in LV2012 won't load. They simply crash and give me an option to send a report or not. My LV2012 environment seems to work fine except that when I try to close it, it won't close. I have to force it to close.
I tried uninstalling my executables through the control panel. I get a message indicating that something is already in the process of installing and I should wait until it is done. There is nothing else installing.
I tried uninstalling all of the NI software through control panel. I get the error 1618 and nothing uninstalls. I tried repairing, as suggested in the linked post, I also get the error 1618.
So, right now, I am stuck. I can run my applications through LV. But I can't run the executables. I also can't uninstall and start over.
I could turn my PC over to our IT department to image the hard drive and start over. But that will kill at least a day to reimage and another day to reinstall everything to get back to normal.
I am running Windows 7 32 bit OS.
Any thoughts?

How do i fix "an unknown error" 1618?

My brand new iPod touch won't restore!
Every time i plug in my new ipod i get the message telling me that it needs to be factory restored to its default settings. I click restore- it authorises with apple ect, and the ipod flashes and comes up with an empty bar.
Once this has happened, i receive the message;
"The iPod "iPod" could not be restored. An unknown error occured (1618)."
Please could a big clever handsome tech guy tell me what on earth i'm doing wrong!

I've got exactly the same issue, was doing the update today and the iphone came up with a message saying update did not happen, next thing it wants to do a restore but cannot and keeps coming up with error 1618.
I have tried on another laptop with itunes and it's the same problem.
So at the moment I have an iPhone 4 that will not switch on either with a Hard Reset or Soft one!
Any ideas anyone?

After following the steps of multiple walkthroughs, I can't get rid of this error message.Here's a little backstory...A while back, Skype wouldn't open. I'd double click the icon you know, and nothing would happen. It would show up on task manager, but no window would pop up. So (call me stupid if you'd like), I deleted the Skype folder. I've done it before, all I did the other times was re install. This time, whenever I try to reinstall, I get the error 1618 message. Can't get rid of it. There's nothing in task manager related to Skype.Any help is appreciated.

Office 2010 installation - Error 1618

We are currently trying to upgrade our Office 2007 installs to 2010 using SCCM.
I made a package out of Office 2010 with SP1 integrated, and am deploying it with the command line
setup /adminfile c:\x\upgrade.msp /config c:\x\upgrade.xml
SCCM is configured to download packages to the local hard disk before executing them.
Now, on all test machines, and about 70% of production machines, this works as expected. The setup runs, returns with a 3010 "Reboot Required" value and the PC reboots. After that, Office is upgraded and works.
On 30% of production machines however a variation of the following error happens:

Not showing message because suppress modal has been set. Title: 'Setup', Message: 'Another install is currently in progress. Press 'Retry' when the install is finished or 'Cancel' to cancel setup.'
The setup then cancels, tries to rollback itself, but fails doing that with the same "The uninstallation appears to have failed because another MSI operation was taking place." errors, then fails completely and exits with an error code 1618

After that, there are Office 2010 shortcuts in the start menu, but no application can be started due to missing DLL errors. Office 2010 then has to be uninstalled with the MS Fixit 50450 tool and reinstalled.
There is no common quality among the PCs that fail this. Some are XP, others are Vista. Some are English language, others are German, French or Italian.
After this happened the first time, I changed the installation so that the PCs would always do a reboot before the installation, but this didn't help anything. To me it seems that the Office setup itself tries to chain two msiexecs at the same time - or
tries to start one before the last one finishes properly. Is there a way to prevent this?

I've having the same problem on my deployment environment. We are deploying Windows 7 Enterprise using SCCM and the UDI task sequence by MDT. In UDI, I have Office 2010 with SP2 integrated to install. I've done a blast test of 10 machines
being imaged all at once and so far 8 of the 10 are successful installing office 2010 with sp2.
The other two machines, i went looking through the SCCM logs. CAS.log shows that the office 2010 package was downloaded completely. I then looked in the setup.log in C:\Windows\temp where the office install logs are found and noticed this.

It looks like msiexec.exe is being used up by another program. Initially I was getting this a lot and then I moved my McAfee agent and Altiris agent install outside of the install application step. That seemed to give me 80% success rate on deploying
office.
Now the awkward thing is that all my other applications installs just fine. This office installs first and is then followed by MS Project and MS Visio. Office fails with the error above but afterwards, SCCM executes MS Project with sp2 and MS
Visio with sp2 and they install just fine. This makes me believe that office 2010 is
A.) Stumbling upon each of its own .msi files
B.) another background app is still being installed when it gets to office.
I find it hard to believe the latter because I've troubleshot all my other apps and they install just fine. I even had task manager going in the background to detect new services installing and still no go. Now i noticed that I have "Suppress
Modal" turned on. I am wondering if I can enable that and then see if Office will give me that prompt to "Retry" and not instantly fail the install.

Error 1618 on Windows 7

I downloaded and attempted to install the most recent version of the Ovi Suite, but I received an error message #1618 that it did not install correctly. However, the Windows Installation of the program still attempted to run where it says Preparing to Install, followed by Please Wait while Windows configures OviMPlatform.
This installer keeps cycling through non-stop. I cannot cancel it without it coming back up. I cannot shut down my computer without it coming back up. I cannot uninstall it, because the computer requires me to stop the Ovi installation first (which is impossible). I also tried to reinstall it, but the same error occurs. I've tried to run as administrator, etc. too. I've also tried to Force Quit the program.
So I basically tried everything and my computer is forever trying to install this software. It's driving me crazy.
I'm running Windows 7 without any prior Nokia software installed. However, due to the partial installation that originally occurred, it appears that the Nokia Cable Driver and PC Connectivity Solution are showing that they are installed. Again though, I cannot erase them until I can somehow stop the Windows installation.

Download the Windows Clean Up Utility, which will help you to clear the partially installed Ovi suite program without going into add/remove. I have attached it as a txt file, please rename to exe.
Please select all the nokia relevant softwares and remove one by one.
If its not showing in the clean up utility, then most proably it should be because of a corruped windows installer. Most of the installation issues are fixed by reinstalling the windows installer. For more info please click on the link provided below
