Error 1628...failed to complete installation

Every time I try to install my ITunes upgrade I receive an error 1628. First I couldn't open my ITunes because I did not have an up to date version of Quicktime. When I tried to upgrade I received this error during installation. I tried all of the troubleshooting methods outlined and I still receive the error. I haven't been able to use my ITunes for weeks!!! Any help is appreciated even if it just a customer support number I can call for help. Thanks!!

hi Nathalie!
if Moises's suggestion doesn't work for you, let's just make sure that you've seen the InstallShield links on the 1628 given in this document:
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93976
... and the InstallShield Tips and Pointers on installation best practices (which have worked for persistent 1628s in the past):
http://consumer.installshield.com/faq.asp#ts
... and also
b method 1
from this document:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;555175
(Moises has already given you method 3, and the Tips and Pointers cover another few of the methods.)
keep us posted.

  • Java_es_05q1-windows-x86 install fails 1628: Failed to complete installation on windows xp pro sp2

    Hi All,
I'm trying to install Java ES 2005Q1 on my windows xp pro sp2 notebook, but it always breaks with this error message: 1628: Failed to complete installation
I realized that the SUNJavaES.log always ends at line 151 which is 131077 characters long.
    These are the last few characters of this line: ..." AD_MANUAL_ES_CONSOLE_HELP=D:\Sun\JES2005Q1\Server-Root\manua l\es\console\help\ AD_MANUAL_FR_ADMIN=D:\Sun\JES2005Q1\Server-Root\manual\fr\ad min\ AD_MANUAL_FR_ADMIN_HELP=D:\Sun\JES2005Q1\Serve "
I attached the last log file.
This line always breaks at the 131077th char independently of the content of it. I tried to skip some components of JES to see what will occur. The current content of this line obviously was different, but it has broken at the same point.
Thanks in advence for any help.

This could be due to a known issue with length of installation path
Can you try and install in a location with less than 8 characters ?
    eg: C:\JES05q1 or C:\Sun

  • Can't install:"1628: Failed to complete installation."

Upon double-clicking on OracleXE.exe (165.332.312 byte, production), I receive a dialog box stating "1628: Failed to complete installation".
I have MSIExec.exe version 3.1.4000.1823 on my system.
I've followed the instructions (looking for still-running install processes, clearing the temp directory, making sure I have a current Windows Installer) and none work.
I don't found in temp directory an OracleDatabaseExpressInstall.log.
I have Windows Xp Pro Sp2, 1Gb ram, Sempron 2600+, Hd 80 Gb.
I have setting language from Italian to English (US).
On an other pc is all ok.

You can find OracleDatabaseExpressInstall.log in the %SystemRoot% directory, not in in the "temp" Directory. Often the %SystemRoot% is C:\WINDOWS.
Do you use a "Local Administrator" to install XE ?

    Okay, please bear with me...
I just bought my 30G iPod today, and am trying to get it to work. I have already spent several hours trying to find a solution but so far no luck.
Everytime I go thru the installation, when it is done and I click okay, I get that error message - 1628...
I have searched the forums for an answer and tried deleting my temp files, ending certain processes, but nothing works.
Anyone know how to fix this? Thanks a lot.

This message could appear when installing any software that uses the InstallShield installer, such as Apple’s iTunes. According to InstallShield, this is a general error message indicating that the application did not install successfully.
    Solution:
InstallShield says this error occurs any time an installation process doesn’t complete successfully. It’s often proceeded by a different error message that will provide more detailed information. You can search InstallShield’s Consumer Central area (consumer.installshield.com/common.asp) for possible solutions. If no error appears before the 1628 error, InstallShield recommends you try to find and terminate any previously running install processes, clean the temp directory, and ensure the Windows Installer Engine is installed on your computer.
To check for running install processes, InstallShield recommends pressing CTRL-ALT-DEL and selecting Task Manager. Click the Process tab and look for any process with the name setup.exe, isetup.exe, ikernel.exe, msiexec.exe, idriver.exe, IsUninst.exe, IsUn16.exe, Uninst.exe, or Uninst16.exe. If you find an install process, click the process name and click the End Process button.
To delete the contents of your temp folder, InstallShield recommends opening a command box. Click Run in the Search Menu. In Windows NT 4.0, Windows 2000, and Windows XP, type cmd. In other versions of Windows, type command.com. Type set and note the location of your temp directory. Type deltree /y followed by the name of your temp directory. If the command doesn’t work, you can use Windows Explorer to navigate to your temp directory. Click Select All in Edit menu and then select Delete from the File menu.
If you’re not running Windows XP, you may also want to make sure you have Windows Installer Service engine installed as well. You can download this file from InstallShield. (consumer.installshield.com).
Try this website: consumer.installshield.com or the manufacture of your computer

  • 1628: Failed to Complete Installation

Howdy all. I was having a 1607 error a couple weeks back, got that fixed thanks to b noir, but immediately got a 1628 error that I haven't been able to fix.
I've tried the suggestions on this 1628 error that this link gives you:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93976
-I didn't find any process running on my computer of the install processes they had listed, are there other processes that might be causing my 1628 error?
-I've cleaned out every temp folder on both of my hard drives except for some temporary internet folders that it doesn't allow me to delete for some reason.
-When I try to install the windows installer engine on my computer I get a "the specified service already exists" message.
My anti-virus program that I have is called avg free edition, but I have been disabling anything on it that would be interfering, at least as far as I know, when I go to do installs.
An attempt at a stand alone Quicktime install will also give me the 1628 error.
    Any help is appreciated! Thanks!

The error message occurs at run time usually when you are trying to uninstall, repair, or update an installation. This error message is caused by the Windows Installer Service and is often caused by the installation itself.
    Fix
This error message is often caused when the uninstallation log file becomes corrupt. This can happen if the installation is corrupt or an issue on the computer has caused this. To fix this, end the process that is running IDriver.exe via the Task Manager. Follow these steps to do this:
Refer to the article Detect and End Previously Running Installation Processes to end the IDriver.exe process. http://consumer.installshield.com/kb.asp?id=Q108393
Run the installation again to see if the error still occurs.
This error can also occur if the Windows Installer Service is not properly configured on your computer. It can also happen if the installation is created with a newer version of the Windows Installer Service, and your computer has an older version. To fix this issue, install the latest Windows Installer Service on your computer using these steps:
    http://consumer.installshield.com/kb.asp?id=Q108201
to download and install the latest Windows Installer Service.
    Reboot your computer.
Run the installation again to see if the error continues to occur.
This error message may also occur if a file in the Temp directory is conflicting with the files being used by the installation while it is being run. To fix this, delete the entire contents of the Temp directory using these steps:
Refer to the article Clean the Temp Directory to clean the Temp directory. http://consumer.installshield.com/kb.asp?id=Q108334 Run the installation again to see if the issue is resolved.
Another reason your installation may not run is changes to your computer caused by recent updates. For example, updates to your operating system may cause installations created prior to the update to fail. You may want to uninstall any recent updates, install your application, and reinstall the update. WARNING: You should check with the software vendor who created the update to ensure no adverse affects will result from uninstalling the update.

  • Payment engine failed to complete installation at startup

    Hi All,
When first logging into SAP B1 8.8, the payment engine installation message came up but then it display error message "1628: Failed to complete installation". But when logging in as administrator on the server, the payment engine loaded ok.
I'm suspecting it's got to do with permission of certain payment engine files so i set full control for all users to SAP AddOn folder but still no luck.
Did anyone have this problem and know what the cause is?
    Thanks,
    Ric

    Hi Ric,
Please navigate to run -->  %temp% and  rename the folder SM_OBS_DLL as SM_OBS_DLL_old and restart SAP Business One.
Let me know if this works or you will need to remove Payment add on details from the C:\Program Files\SAP\SAP Business One\AddOnsLocalRegistration.sbo open with notepad. Is this occurig on one client machine or on all user machines

When launching the CSA installation, I am getting an error that says "Setup failed to launch installation engine. Access denied." This agent kit has been deployed to hundreds of servers with no problems. Has anyone see this problem before or know of a solution?

Check your access rights and the version of Installshield on the server. I've seen a conlict with newer versions (1/3/2003 or newer) of Ikernel.exe left over from other installations.

  • Mavericks Server 3.2.2 - fails to complete installation

Is anyone else having issues with installing Mavericks Server 3.2.2 as an update - it downloads and starts the install but never completes on my mac Mini server - I thought it may be doing something wild like scanning attached drives before installing however after several attempts forcing the install application to quit and rebooting, I ejected the external drives but this seems not to have been the issue.
Server 3.2.2 installed fine on my second Mac mini Server although this is not being utilized in terms of services (DNS and a few other services). The Mini that server fails on has two identical drives which I use super duper to copy as a backup so I am able to go back to server 3.2.1 and have no issues.
This server is running Mail, software update, caching service, DNS, Web, Sql etc but only for internal services and for 1-2 users, cpu etc are fine, server install appears to be running but after leaving it run all last night and not progressing half way by the status bar I tried again, booted from the secondary drive copied a good copy back to the primary drive, eject primary and tried to install again - same issue - left it run all afternoon with the same results.
Anyone have any thoughts or suggestions or have seen this before - I am also not seeing any issues with 3.2.1
    Thanks in advance !

It's probably that the server that's failing is doing so because it loses DNS (since it looks to itself for name service).
Go into network prefs and assign it an outside DNS server, then try updating again.

  • WinXP, LabView 6.1 Installation error message: 'Failed to initialize installer. Error 110.'

I am using WinXP and have no virus protection software installed. I have already tried installing instmsiw.exe, which didn't help. I also tried restarting in safe mode, starting and cancelling the install process, and restarting in normal mode, as per a suggestion I found, to no avail. Any other suggestions?

    Hi,
Some steps you can take to check if it is the CD or your system would be:
    1) Copy cd down to hard drive and try to install from there
    2) Try installing from cd on another machine
    3) Try another CD (if you have one)
If you run into the situation where it works on another machine, but doesn't work when copying down to your hard drive, I would then further try sharing the cd-rom drive of another machine temporarily and then accessing the cd from the network, or just copy it down into another machine and share it across the network. If this does not resolve your installation problem, the issue may be related to some corruption in your system install or possibly any permission issues. Lastly, if you cannot get the cd to work anywhere, I would co
ntact your local sales representative to see if you can get a new copy of the cd.

  • Error 1628 on Install

When I had to rebuild my computer, I was trying to install iTunes and I keep getting 1628: Failed to complete installation on iTunes Installshield.
I have gone through all of the steps on the http://consumer.installshield.com to detect and end any previously running installations. I've also tried to upgrade my Window Installer to the latest version, and I cleaned out my temp folder.
When I tried to download and install the Quicktime stand-alone file, it worked perfectly.
Also, nothing else seems to be amiss with my PC. All hardware is working perfectly, as is all software (with the exception of the iTunes installer).
Does anyone have any advise on this? Is there some sort of other way to install iTunes that circumnavigates Windows Installer?
I've seen several topics along these lines, but they all seem to end prior to any resolution.

  • Itunes Installation Error 1628

I am experiencing problems with installing quicktime. I tried to install it with Itunes and it gives the 1628 Failed to complete. I have tried everything in all forums everywhere relating to this error. I also downloaded the quicktime standalone and I get a huge error message or two and doesn't install. I know have the latest Itunes with an error requires Quicktime 7.0 or later. Anyone that can please help! Thank you

    hi Guy!
this could be. it sounds familiar. where would i find this info at?
hmmm. just went googling. found a reference for version number 1.38. do you recall downloading anything like this?
    http://www.free-codecs.com/download/KLite_Mega_CodecPack.htm
looking at the details of this pack, my
    b guess
is that the Codec pack fiddles around thoroughly enough with a QT 7.0.2 that the 7.0.2 gets confused and thinks it's a 6.5.2 ... speculation, though.
let's try to get you functioning again. but just in the interests of half-buttocked research, would you mind launching your version of QT first? go into the "about" screen. what version number do you see there? 6.5.2, 7.0.2, or 7.0.2<something>?
first shut down both itunes and QT. reboot. shut down antivirus and antispyware prior to installs and uninstalls.
Download and install the Windows Installer Cleanup utility from here:
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290301/
    reboot.
use the QT part of the uninstall instructions given here to remove your existing QT:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93976
if you run into trouble on the uninstall, use the Cleanup utility.
b but even if you don't run into trouble on the uninstall, run the utility after the uninstall to check to make sure you've completely gotten rid of any existing QT stuff.
    reboot.
download and save to your hard drive a fresh copy of the QT standalone installer (we'll run the install from there rather than on-line).
    http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/standalone.html
does your QT launch? does your itunes launch now?
    keep us posted.
    love, b

Did you make some update before this error starts to occur? Or you have never compliled any VI on this computer.
In case you have compiled any VI previously successfully on this computer, try to reinstall the LabVIEW FPGA module.

  • Oracle Express Remote Installation - Error 1628

    Hi
I'm currently getting error 1628 during the installation of Oracle Express on a machines with Windows XP SP2.
The installation of Oracle Express is being performed silently using a patch management/software distribution tool such as BigFix. The installation of this product is initiated when a non-admin user accepts an action from the patch management server to install Oracle Express. When the action is accepted OracleXEUniv.exe installer executes as the LOCAL SYSTEM account and NOT the logged in user. Again this user is a domain user but does not have local admin privileges. While this approach does NOT work for a non-admin user, it does work for a user with local admin privileges.
On a related note ... I was able to test the installation of OracleExpress using the patch management server while no one was logged into the machine. The installation ran as the LOCAL SYSTEM account and was successful.
Can someone explain what level of privileges is required by the Oracle Express installer, why would Oracle Express fail to install while logged in as a non-admin user if the installation process shows that OracleXEUniv.exe is being executed as the LOCAL SYSTEM (reported through theTask Manager)
    Thank you in advanced.
    Jose

    Hi,
Thanks for the link; it was helpful. However, I'm curios to know why would the installation complete with the LOCAL SYSTEM account when I'm logged off the machine but not when I'm logged in as a non-admin user while the job is running in the background as the LOCAL SYSTEM (LOCAL SYSTEM part of the Local Admin group). Again this process is being initiated by a software distribution tool not by a user or administrator. This is how I'm able to define the run as user.
Originally when I logged into the machine as a non-admin user the job would fail with error 1628 even though it is executed as the LOCAL SYSTEM user. However, when I'm logged off the machine (Windows Login Prompt visible at the screen) the installation completes successfully.
I just wonder How and When does the Windows Installer know what user is being used for the installation of Oracle Express?
    Thank you in advanced.
