Error 1714 when re-installing iTunes

I had an issue removing iTunes and now when I re-install I get an error:
"1714: The older version of iTunes cannot be removed. Contact your technical support group"
it then gives another error:
"error: - 1603 Fatal error during installation"
I've gone through the registry and manually removed any links to "iTunes" and still no luck.

hmmm. let's start by making a careful (diagnostic) standalone QT 7.0.3 install:

will that go through, or do you get another error?
if it's another error, what does it say?
if it goes through, will the itunes install go through after that? (take the same precautions as you took on the QT install.)

Go to "SERVICES" on your computer and click on it, then when the list of services is present look for "Apple Mobile Device" and click on "Restart the service"

Not the iPad - your computer must be running iTunes 10.7 in order to sync. It has nothing to do with iTunes on the iPad.

I am a new itunes user. I have exsisting songs on my computer prior to instaling itunes. When i installed Itunes it asked if i wanted it to search fro media and i had it import all my songs into itunes. These songs will no longer play in media player.
