Error 1921 acrobat update service could not be stopped upgrading from 9 to 10 or 11

The installers uninstall 9, looks like it's about done, then is trying to stop adobe ARM service and can't so it fails. I've run the AdbeArCleaner to try to get a fresh start, but it seems like I've broken something, and I hate being stuck 2 versions behind...

How about this workaround-
Download AdbeRdr11000_en_US.msi from ftp://ftp.adobe.com/pub/adobe/reader/win/11.x/11.0.00/en_US/
execute the command below:
msiexec /i [Path to AdbeRdr11000_en_US.msi]  DISABLE_ARM_SERVICE_INSTALL=1
DISABLE_ARM_SERVICE_INSTALL property described here
http://www.adobe.com/devnet-docs/acrobatetk/tools/AdminGuide/properties.html?highlight=arm %20service
Without Service you will not be able to install updates in full auto mode (depends on your OS and UAC), but you sill be able to update in other modes.

  • Error 1921 Ipod Service could not be stopped

I am trying to install Itunes 7.6 + Quicktime. On the download status screen it says Status: Stopping Service. The green activity bar stops and after awhile an error message pops up that says - Error 1921. Ipod Service could not be stopped. Verify that you have sufficient privileges to stop system services. It says retry and cancel. Pushing retry only results in the same error. I don't know what this means.

That can happen sometimes if the iTunes installer is having a hard time shutting down either iTunes or QuickTime (or applications using QuickTime) prior to the install. So let's try a "download, restart, then install” strategy.
    Leave any iPod unplugged.
Download and save a copy of the iTunes installer to your hard drive. (Do not run the install on line, and do not start the install by clicking on the iTunesSetup.exe (installer) file just yet.)
    Latest iTunes Installer
Shut down running applications and restart the PC.
Do not open any other applications prior to attempting the iTunes install. Switch off antivirus and antispyware applications prior to the install.
Now start the install by doubleclicking the iTunesSetup.exe file.
Does the install go through properly this time?

  • I can't Start, Uninstall or Install new iTunes. I'm getting the same error message: Window Installer Service could not be accessed.  No other programs have similar problem. Any suggestion what can be done?

I can't Start, Uninstall of Install new iTunes. I'm getting the same error message: "Window Installer Service could not be accessed". No other programs having similar problem. Any suggestions how to fix it?

For general advice see Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.
The steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes and then rebuilding it which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach. Review the other boxes and the list of support documents further down the page in case one of them applies.
The further information area has direct links to the current and recent builds in case you have problems downloading, need to revert to an older version or want to try the iTunes for Windows (64-bit - for older video cards) (not for XP) release as a workaround for installation or performance issues, or compatibility with QuickTime or third party software.
Your library should be unaffected by these steps but there are also links to backup and recovery advice should it be needed.

  • Bonjour Services could not be stopped

I've had it with the stupid bonjour services. I have searched for countless hours for a solution, and even emailed the head-honchos. But it was "out of their field." A message pops up during installation, and says, "Service 'Bonjour service' (Bonjour Service) could not be stopped. Verify that you have sufficent priviledges to stop system services." Can someone help me???

That can sometimes happen if the BonJour service is jammed in an odd state. Let's check on that.
In your Start menu, right-click "Computer" and select "Manage".
    Expand "Services & Applications".
    Open "Services".
Maximise the window to better see what is going on.
What is showing up for you next to the BonJour Service under Status and Startup Type? For example, mine says "Started" and "Automatic".

    Hi Abdallah,
According to your description, could you please post the summary and detail logs for further analysis? By default, the logs can be found in: C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\100\Setup Bootstrap\Log.
Usually, the error occurs when the Windows Installer Service is not running or the Windows Installer registry settings are corrupted.  I recommend you reset the Windows Installer Service settings in the registry and restart the Windows Installer Service,
then reinstall SQL Server 2008 R2. For more details, please review this similar
    article.

  • "Error 1921. Service '***' could not be stopped"

    Hello,
After a few crashes from Ni MAX and troubles detecting by GPIB devices, I thought it would be a good idea to do a few updates on my VISA drivers, NI488.2, etc.
But when I run the NI update service on these, I get an error message ressembling the image below. Only thing different is that it complains it cannot stop the NI Lxi discovery service instead of the Ni mDNS Responder service. I then tried to run the Ni repair utility on MAX and a few relevant software modules like VISA and 488.2, only to get the error displayed below.
I tried running the command "net stop niLXIDiscovery" in a cmd prompt with no success. It simply tells me that the service is already stopping...
FYI, I have both LabView 2013 32 and 64 bit installed and both TestStand 2014 32 and 64 bit installed. I only use Ethernet and GPIB to communicate with my instruments.
    Thank you!

    Hi christianb,
In the list of services that can be accessed from the Contorl Panel, what is the startup type of the NI LXI Discovery Service? If it is automatic, would it be possible to change the type to manual and restart the computer? This would allow us to stop this service after the reboot of the computer and to continue to use the Update Service.
Are you the adminstrator of this machine?

  • Error mess  software updates -installer could not install some files in "/"

I get this message regardless of the software update. Just started today. Has anyone else had this issue? If so, any idea how to fix. Thanks so much in advance!

There may be an error in the computer's directory, requiring a repair; some kinds
of errors or damage to the data in the hard drive are not responsive to attempts
to use the booted Disk Utility version on the OS X Installer disc #1, and while it
may be worth a try to see if that Disk Utility could at least give it a go, the usual
kinds of third party disk utilities (if this is the case, a directory error or damage)
would be along the lines of DiskWarrior, to rebuild or replace a directory.
The slashmark / usually indicates the mount point, of the internal main hard disk
drive partition used by the OS X. So, there may be other reasons why the update
installer does not appear to be working correctly or at all in this matter.
I've not seen such an error message before; but for general maintenance and
before any issues would arise, I try and do preventative maintenance; to include
startup in SafeBoot (shift key held until login screen) and then run Disk Utility to
'repair disk permissions' on Macintosh HD; then when done, note repair logs.
And restart the computer normally. {Also, I have & use Titanium Software OnyX
in its Automation mode every month or two; and choose all checkboxes. This
    is also set to automatically restart when the tasks are completed. + It is free.}
To start the computer from the Installer disc and run Disk Utility from there,
involves holding the C key on restart with the OS X install disc #1 in the
optical drive; and when in the Installer, often a second window where there
is a main Installer menu bar, there are drop-down menus from clickable words
across the top bar. Various options are there, and Disk Utility is among them.
This version of Disk Utility can be used to repair disk, repair disk permissions,
and also there are other more active tools among its utility features. This is an
installer, too; with options of several kinds. The Utility can also reformat, etc.
So be careful in what you choose to run. The repair disk and repair permissions
are both ones that may be a bit helpful, at least in the process of elimination.
If the directory is bad, a retail DiskWarrior utility may need to be purchased from
a Mac-friendly vendor; be sure that DW version covers your OS X system level.
    Good luck & happy computing!

I have tried several times to download and install Adobe Reader and each time it fails and the above is what it says as the cause.  How can I get this loaded?  Does anyone have and idea how to fix the problem.  I was told that this was the expert place to get answers.

  • I'm getting this error: Service "iPod Service" could not be stopped

Verify that you have sufficient privileges to stop system services." Does anyone know what that means?
    Dell   Windows 2000

When does this error message appear to you? (i.e., what were you doing that caused it to occur?)
If you're going to Task Manager to stop a Process called "iPodService.exe", you may need to go to an administrator user account on your computer to stop the process in Task Manager, not under a limited-account.

  • Error 1635: This Update Package Could Not Be Opened

Recently I've been getting an Adobe Update Failed error popping up in my task bar:
I've tried the Microsoft FixIt listed as a solution for this error on the following page, but it made no difference: http://helpx.adobe.com/acrobat/kb/update-errors-acrobat-reader-windows.html
I'm running Windows 7 Ultimate x64. I've tried fully unstalling and reinstalling Adobe Reader and periodically I still get the same error.
The weird thing is though that I'm running v11.0.0.4, isn't this the latest?...
I've allowed Adobe Reader and Adobe Update through my Norton Internet Security firewall too. I've tried researching this error but the only thing I can find is old threads with broken links, or support details for Adobe Reader 8.

Thanks, weird as it still shows v11.0.0.4 being the latest on the main Adobe page?
    http://get.adobe.com/uk/reader/
Anyways cheers, that file installed with no problems. I opened Reader and clicked the Repair Installation option too for good measure.
Will see what happens next time an update is available.

  • Itunes pulls up error stating that ipod service could not be stoped

I got an ipod for christmas and i cant use it because when I go to download the ItunesSetup it says that i have to verify that I have sufficient privileges to stop system services and I dont know how to fix it

FYI - I'm having the same problem. At first, I loaded iTunes successfully, but got a generic pop-up windows error message "iTunes has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience."
I tried the "repair" option from the website and thats were I got the ipod services message.
I noticed my Windows XP was service pack 1 so I loaded Service Pack 2... then I reloaded iTunes and still get the same generic error message.
There has got to be an easy answer, lets hope someone can find it for us.

  • What the hell. I spent hours trying to get firefox to swork yesterday. Today I get an automatic update that could not be stopped. Now I'm right back to this

Yesterday, I spent several hours repairing this shit. Today, I get an automatic update that put me right back in the same predicament. I need an older version so that downloading videos will work on Real Player. Either that or fix your newest download so that it will let Real Player work. Send a link to download the older version of Firefox. Then tell me how to never get an automatic update

By the way, there are a lot of downloader add-ons that don't have the compatibility problems that have plagued the Realplayer add-on.
To change your automatic update options, check here:
orange Firefox button ''or'' classic Tools menu > Options > Advanced > Update
You also can check other threads (particularly those started by MacOSX 10.4 users) about a file you can delete to block updates.
For version 3.6.28, which you probably realize is behind on security updates, you can go to this page: http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/all-older.html
