Error -200474 in USB-6218

Hello,
I am using a USB-6218 to measure voltages using a third-party software (Neurobehavioral Systems Presentation).
Most of the time it works well, but every now and then I get the -200474 error.
The Presentation Software allows setting timeout values when acquiring data, I tried various timeouts from 1 to 10 ms, and it does not seem to influence the frequency of the error at all.
The task for the USB-6218 is set to read analog input 9, 10, or 11. Presentation reads them separately, although read of AI10 always occurs soon after read of AI9. The error may occur during any of these reads. (I also disabled reads of AI11 for now to reduce the frequency of the error so I can test other parts of my Presentation code, the error keeps showing up from time to time when reading AI9 or AI10).
The task Acquisition mode is 1 Sample (On Demand).
Any suggestions?

Hey,
When this happens, I recommend resetting the device in Measurement and Automation Explorer (MAX) (Start»All Programs»National Instruments»MAX).  To reset your device, expand Devices and Interfaces»NI-DAQmx Devices, and then right-click on the USB-6218 and select Reset Device, as shown:
Do you know what version of DAQmx that the third-party software uses?  Is this software an executable, or does it give you access to the source code?  It's possible that this is just a bug that was encountered in an earlier version of DAQmx.

    Hello tog000,
I have a couple questions that will help clarify your setup so that I can help troubleshoot your hardware connection.
Which Linux distribution are you running?
Which version of NI-DAQmx Base do you have installed?
Which version of NI-KAL do you have installed? Please refer to this document to ensure that you have the proper version of NI-KAL installed for your Linux distribution: http://digital.ni.com/public.nsf/allkb/2B4BB2B78A02C2FA86257BD500605CAD
Did you experience any errors when installing NI-KAL? Please refer to this knowledge base article for one error case when NI-KAL will be unable to start: http://digital.ni.com/public.nsf/allkb/20789C3E4A3DCAFB8625708B00693CF9?OpenDocument. In this case, there should have been an installation error for NI-KAL.
Thank you for the additional information!

  • TS1369 Hello! I have an Ipod Shuffle 2nd Generation and it is not recognized by my Windows 8 based laptop. An error message of 'USB device not recognized' is shown. I have the latest ITunes version installed, and tested the dock in other pc's.

    Hello!
I have a problem connecting my Ipod Shuffle 2nd generation to my Windows 8 based laptop. The computer doesn't recognize the Ipod and issues an error message saying 'USB device not recognized'. I tried uninstaling ITunes(latest version) and all other Apple software and reinstaling it back again, checked my USB hubs in the 'Device Manager' section of the Control Panel, you name it.
I could really use some help solving this.
I've turned to the troubleshooting section in Apple Support but it has nothing concerning situations in wich the device isn't even shown in the 'My Computer' folder.
Help a brother out, will you???

Found a solution in another forum http://en.kioskea.net/forum/affich-63733-ipod-not-detected-on-computer (a few posts down).
It was for an IPOD so you can see those details in the link.
Found how to reset a shuffle and inserted it into these instructions - did not have to follow his last steps.
    - Turn off computer.
    - Plug Shuffle into usb.
    - Then you must reset your shuffle
    To reset iPod shuffle:
Disconnect iPod shuffle from the computer (if connected).
Move the switch on the iPod shuffle to the OFF position. Note that when iPod shuffle is off, the green stripe by the switch is not visible
Disconnect iPod shuffle from the computer (if connected).
Move the switch on the iPod shuffle to the OFF position. Note that when iPod shuffle is off, the green stripe by the switch is not visible.
    - Start computer and it should install the usb driver for the ipod automatically.
    - Your i pod will say do not unplug so don't. then open itunes and it will be there.
I did not have to do these thing below – did not get error message and shuffle was displayed in Itunes. / LMc
Just remember to not only eject ipod from itunes but stop usb.
Go to the program icons near the clock and right click the usb icon and "safely remove hardware" will appear and click it.
Stop it and select "apple ipod".

  • Frequency/Period measurement with USB-6218

I have been trying to get a USB-6218 to measure either frequency or period and have been running in to issues. I have attempted to connected to each counter gate (PFI1 or PFI2) and have not had any luck. I am attempting to meausre lower-frequency signals (1Hz-1KHz) so the Low-Frequency, 1 counter approach seems to be the one I need. The end goal is to get it working in Labwindows. I have made attempts using both sample LabWindows programs as well as MAX. In each of them, it appears that the frequency measurement is actually coming back with the pulse width of both the low and high portions of the signal. For instance, if I am trying to meausre the period of a 100 Hz signal, with a 75% duty cycle, it will toggle between 0.0075 and 0.0025 seconds for the period. If I increase the frequency of the signal to 10 KHz, it measures the frequency well. Is there something I am missing? Based on the manual, I should be able to meausre lower frequency signals using this method. Any help is greatly appreciated.
    Thanks.

Can you upload a screenshot of your Task in MAX is setup? Is this happening at all lower frequencies or just at 100 Hz? Lets make sure we can get this working in MAX before adding LabWindows/CVI on top of it.
Sometimes this can happen if the rise/fall time of the signal is not within the specifications of the device. This KnowledgeBase article shows the acceptable rise/fall times.

  • Problem with pin reference (USB 6218)

    Hi evryone,
I am confused concerning the pin references for USB-6218. MAX says to use  pin 15 and 16  for a differential AI (AI0/AIground) on the first channel. This seems correct because my measure looks ok. But when I look at the data sheet (http://www.ni.com/pdf/manuals/372085b.pdf)  these pins correspond to PFI 6/P1.2 and D ground.  The AOs don't match either.
I must be making a mistake when reading the data sheet. Would anybody know what I am doing wrong?
    Thanks,

    Hi User_1979,
Did you use a simulate device in MAX?
These Connections refers to this datasheet of the USB 6218 (P.15). Your measurement seems ok between pin 15-16 (AI0-8), the behaviour is normal.
Also you can find the device pinout within MAX by right click on the device and click to view the pinout.

  • An error occurred while USB device is connected to your Horizon View 6.1 desktop

    Hi,
Recently we upgraded View from 5.3 to 6.1. Currently I use the virtual desktop agent 5.3.3 (VMware-viewagent-x86_64-5.3.3-2299613). USB redirection works fine.
If I update the agent to 6.1 (VMware-viewagent-x86_64-6.1.0-2509441), the USB redirection is no longer working with this error message:
An error occurred while USB device is connected to your Horizon View desktop.
    Any suggestions are welcomed.
    Thanks.

Error -4 is almost always an indication that the connection between the AirPort Utility application and the AirPort router is is being blocked by....
    1) The Windows Firewall
    2) Microsoft Security Essentials...if installed on your PC
    3) The anti-virus software
    4) 1&2, or 2&3, or 1&3, or all of the above
When I used to use a PC, the only way that I could ever get the AirPort setup was to turn off all of the items above, configure the AirPort, then turn everything back on again.
Life would be tons easier if you had an iPhone or iPad to configure the AirPort Extreme, or you could borrow a Mac for a few minutes.

  • Help with DAQmx tension measurement and saving to spreadsheet file with NI USB-6218 (very urgent !)

    Hello people,
I've been given at the last minute a project at school where I need to do some data acquisitions (tensions) with a DAQ NI USB-6218 and it has
been miserable ever since, I first tried the "easy" way with DAQ assistant to save a given number of samples per channel to a text file
in order to use it in matlab, well...it isn't working : every time in my text file I have a different number of samples, I used the "Write to spreadsheet" function within a while loop where I wired the path outputs to a shift register in order not to have it asking me the path all the time,
but I'm still not getting the X number of samples per channel as specified at the beginning.
So I've been using another method with the DAQmx where I get each individual waveform into a vector of samples, when I look for the size
of the vector it looks Ok, 100 in my case but the problems start when I try to have a text file where each column will represent a channel for
subsequent matlab treatment, what I'm doing doesn't seem to be working, it's really unbearable, please help me sort this mess out.
I'll add both VIs as attachment so it can help you help me, thank you.
Basically what I need is to acquire 15 tensions with a given number of samples per channel (the same for each channel) and then plot it in matlab.
Note the first VI has switches to "unblock" each channel but it doesn't seem to be working, please look at both VIs.
It's very urgent, I could fail my school year if I fail this project.
Thank you very much for your help.

Hi Thank you very much for your help, in the meantime, I've changed the project to (see attachment), now
it is at least writing the waveforms to the txt file, but again there is an another problem, it seems to be ignoring the
number of samples I specified per channel, it seems to be writing into the txt file for as long as I keep the VI running.
What is missing ? Also I'd like to have a clock for my samples, that is when I plot in matlab I do not just plot random numbers, but the
physical analogical inputs as a function of time, that is for instance the first line corresponds to time 0, line 2 to time 0,001
ect...How could I do that ? For the meantime I got only 5 channels, when I know what my mistake is, I'll expand it to 15 channels.
    Please help me.

  • Cablage carte d'acquisition NI USB 6218

    Bonjour,

  • Questions about my library just moved to NAS.  Download errors.  Would USB be better?

Thanks for reading.  My situation is that my itunes library is running about 500gb and I needed to get it off my imac.  I bought a 2TB NAS and copied the entire library folder to that drive and changed itunes to go there.
What I'm finding is that downloading daily podcasts is a chore.  It's real slow.  I had to turn off simultaneous downloads and allow only a single download at a time.  Otherwise it would certainly beach ball.
Also, buying anything from itunes seems to result in a "network reset" error and I have to sit there and click "resume" 2 or 3 times.
I'm wondering if I've done something wrong?
Would it be better if I spring for a 2.0 USB drive and keep it connected to my imac that way rather than going through the servers where the NAS is connected in the house?
I also use this library to feed the apple TV that we use a lot.
    Thanks.

I have a post on reorganizing things before attempting to move them from one computer to another which runs as follows:
    Make a split library portable
Here are the typical layouts for the iTunes folders:
In the layout above right, with the media folder (everything in the red box) inside the library folder, the library is considered to be portable. A portable library can be moved from one path to another without breaking the links from the library to the media, and being self-contained it is much easier to backup and restore. (You do backup, don't you?).
You can rearrange things to make a split library portable by taking a number of small steps which don't break the library.
Before you start any media files that are outside of the media folder will need to be consolidated. If the library is in the old style layout then it should be upgraded to iTunes Media Organization (Library > Organize Library > Rearrange files in the folder <Media Folder>) to ensure that iPod Games, Mobile Applications etc. are brought inside the media folder, otherwise the links to these won't survive changes in the path of the library.
    The basic non-fatal manipulations are:
You can create or connect to an alternate set of library files by holding down Shift (Win) or Option (Mac) when starting iTunes. (Note iTunes will continue to use this library until you use the same method again.)
You can move the library files to a new location and connect to it there as long as the media stays put.
You can move the library files and the media together if the media folder is a direct subfolder of the library folder.
If you have already moved/copied the media content from a subfolder of the library folder to a different location then you only need to copy the library files for it to appear as if you have moved the entire library in the way allowed above. I.e. just copy the library files into the parent folder of the media folder.
You can rename the media folder to iTunes Media (if it isn't already) if the media folder is inside the library folder.
iTunes uses the name of the folder holding the library files as the window title. Having made a library "portable" you may need to take a final step of renaming the library folder to iTunes or, if the library files have ended up at the root of a drive, moving all of the library files and content folders into a new folder called iTunes.
IMPORTANT: After each change you need to open, test and close the relevant library before attempting another change. If a change broke the library, undo it or revert to using the previous set of library files.
In essence all you need to do to join up a split library and make it portable is copy the library files into the parent folder of the media folder on the external/secondary drive and use the hold-down-shift/option-when-starting-iTunes method to connect to it. Other manipulations may be required to normalize the library so that the library and media folders have standard names.
In your case I'm suggesting that you can use 2. to relocate your library files to a faster internal drive while leaving the media on the NAS (splitting the library), and that you would then use 4. to join your split library back together again before attempting to move it to a different drive.
After using 2. you would need to make sure that under iTunes Preferences > Advanced the media folder was pointed to iTunes Media on the NAS. There is also an issue with such split libraries that iTunes can sometimes reset the media folder if the NAS/external appears to be offline when iTUnes starts up.

  • NB305-N440BL getting 0a-0224-0000 file transfer error message using USB Thumbdrive

Doing total out of the box restore.
First off, Toshiba, in their infinite wisdom sends a DVD Rom to you when you order a Recovery Media for a Netbook which has NO DVDROM.  I had to replace the HD after an accident and it is unreadable as a harddrive and had no backup.    As a result, the only thing I have left is to try and copy that to a Thumbdrive, because my backpack dvd writer is not recognized by the bios when booting.    I have a thumb drive big enough and have tried power iso with an extract to the thumbdrive, doing xcopy from the CD Rm as outlined here and other methods:
    http://www.wikihow.com/Install-Windows-from-a-USB-Flash-Drive
I get the same error using the above two methods and could not get any further, I have tried to format the drive and delete the data, but I still get the message.....I am at my wits end.  Is there any software that will explode out the swm files on the DVD to what they are supposed to be so I can try to copy the raw files over and do a win to flash of version 7 with maybe some success????
    Any help would be appreciated.

I wouldn't try messing with transferring that data. You should call customer support and let them know about the mistake with the recovery media. It should have been sent on a USB stick.

The 'funny' thing: there is no USB device attached to the computer (only power and monitor cables).

    Appreciate your ideas?

It's probably an internal hardware fault, but you can try this:
