Error -2041: an invalid sample description was found in the movie

I just tried to use quick time to open mp4 on my PC (taken from my dopod/HTC pda phone), but NOW get "error -2041: an invalid sample description was found in the movie". I used to be able to watch the vids, but no longer......

I have the exact same problem. I have a PPC 6700, and now I can't view movies I created with it in mp4. If change extension file to 3GP video works just fine.
Also, when I try to see a webpage with a Quicktime video clip, I only get a Quicktime logo with a big question mark in it, but no play.
I tried uninstalling and reinstalling, but nothing seems to work.
I have Windows XP, and it worked fine until a couple weeks ago. Not sure if when upgrading to Quicktime 7.2, though.

  • Error -2041 an invalid sample descripton was found in this movie

    have been getting this error message when i try to open mpg4 video files transferred from my samsung e900 mobile when i try to play them on quick time never had any problem before but just started to happen any help greatly appreciated

    I have mobile phone Motorola A1000 and over the last year or so have loaded several hunderd videos, all .mp4 file extensions. All worked well until downloaded QT7.2 and got the -2041 error message. Have found via another forum that by replacing .mp4 with .3gp vids can again be viewed. Is there a way to replace all affected files in one sweep rather than one by one, or can Apple say if they'll provide a fix for the problem created by them?

  • Cannot add video - "Error 2002: a bad public atom was found in the movie"

    Okay, I've searched around and cannot find anything that works, this is driving me crazy! I converted a file from .avi to .mp4 and am now trying to add it to iTunes so that I can put it on my iPod Touch. When I try to add the file, whether by dragging and dropping the file into itunes or going through the File menu, nothing happens - no error messages, no notifications, nothing. If I try to open the file in Quicktime I get the "Error 2002: a bad public atom was found in the movie" message.
    I've tried editing the tags with Tagger, tried the AoA MP4 patch, tried moving the file to a flash drive and adding from there, tried running iTunes in XP compatibility mode... all with no effect. Please, is there anyone that knows how to fix this?

    Hello,
    This doesn't really solve the problem, but why don't you ask your colleague to resave or export test.3gp?
    The new file will probably work. (vs troubleshooting your Windows PC can take ages, to no avail)

  • Exporting Slide Show- Invalid media was found in the movie

    I have been trying all day to send a photo album to Itunes to put on my Ipod. Every time I try I eventually get the message that Invalid Media Data was found in the movie. What does this mean and how to I fix this.

    I am having the same problem. I am exporting a slide show (450 pics) and after A LONG TIME (probably double the previous time it took in the previous iPhoto), I get an error message that says 'Invalid Media Data was found in the Movie'. I also thought it might be protected mp3s (I have music with the slideshow) and I found one 'possible' problem song file, but after I corrected it, I get the same error.
    I have noticed that iPhoto 09 gives an import error for some types of .jpeg files (in particular those imported after scanning using the Image Capture program). I also noticed as I was editing the slide show that there are 5-6 pictures that come up black when you flip thru them in the viewer/editor. They show up in the scan, but do not in the viewer.
    I have run the slideshow in 'play' mode several times without issue. I urgently need this file for tomorrow. If anyone has any suggestions on workarounds today, I would appreciate it.

  • 'An invalid public movie atom was found in the movie' Error Message

    I was just tidying up all the music in iTunes and came across an album that half the songs are unplayable... I get no action with iTunes. I tried opening one of them with Quicktime and I get the following message:
    An invalid public movie atom was found in the movie
    I wonder if there might be a fix. I have the original CD at home but I am traveling and won't be back for a few months...
    Thanks!

    I tried to play video clips on from lynda.com and the Q appears but only the audio plays.I am new to Mac and have no idea what to do. The same clips play on my windows pc just fine and that is version 7.3.

  • Error -2002: a bad public movie atom was found in the movie

    I have a Nikon Coolpix L10 (about 2 years old) that records video in the .mov format.
    Most of the time when I play the videos on my computer I used to get a bad flicker and the video would often freeze. When I used a video editing program I found that for every two frames of video there was a black frame.
    So I thought maybe Quicktime wasn't 100% compatible with the file type or version. So after some deliberation I got Quicktime Pro and I have the newest version 7.6.5. The flicker is gone but the video still freezes.
    So I tried exporting to MP4 or AVI or anything and I keep getting
    "Error -2002: a bad public movie atom was found in the movie"
    It wont allow me to export the video to a different format.
    Sometimes when I cancel the export Windows pops up a screen that it's searching for a reason that the Export Controller stopped working.

    Thank you very much for the help. I tried copying and pasting the video file that is a .mov file to my zip drive and then I tried to an .avi file. The reason for doing this is so I can edit it with microsofts windows movie maker. After I had it on the zip drive and tried to export it so I could change the file it still defaults to the error 2002 message saying there is a bad public movie atom. I have done a bunch (5) other movies from the camera and they all worked and then the last one would not. So I assume there is a random factor that happens such as file size or something in the recording that causes the random atom attack. Maybe the difference is not being a mp4. It would be great if there was a definitiion of what bad public atom was and what it meant. Computers and technology is great.
    I did another search and found that a person commented on zipping the file. Well I tried to zip it from the external drive I have to my desktop and it would not work. Then I ziped the file again. Saved to a external drive then unziped it to the same external drive. From that file I then did the file export and it went fine. So the moral of the story is if the video you took is important keep searching and trying and thanks for everyones help. Why is it the vendor of the product does not post solutions? Anyway now I can go on making movies and editing them. It must be a file corruption issue so that by moving the 1's and 0's around it fixes it's self. Is it a bug with the camera recording or is a bug with quick time?

  • My videos are defaulted to Quicktine and I have downloaded the latest QT player but all my movie clips now cannot be played and I get this error message Error-2002 a bad public movie atom was found in the movie.

    I have used quicktime player downloads for movie clips made for equipment inspections.  However in 2011 I encountered a problem when trying to view previously made movie clips that are in the quicktime player format but they won't play giving the messgae : Error-202 a bad movie atom was found in the movie,
    I have downloaded the latest Quicktime player but the problem still remains.  However late in 2011 when this problem was encountered I downloaded the the latest QT player download and then could play the movie clips but now the problem is back.
    How do I fix this problem.
    Regards
    Richard

  • Error -2041:  Invalid Sample Description on every MP4 file that I create.

    OK, Apple already has a poor reputation in my book and this just adds to it, because I'm not the only one struggling with this problem. Numerous students in my classes have complained about the same thing. We are training on Adobe After Effects 7.0 and our instructor has requested that we post our files as MP4 files, so we have tried MP4 Standard, MP4 Improved, and the H.264 settings. Regardless of which setting we use we get the error:
    Error -2041: an invalid sample description was found in the movie
    Now why should the software that automatically makes itself the default player for MP4 files not be able to actually open them? We've all downloaded the most recent player.
    Clearly, since I'm not the only one with the issue, there is a problem with the software that needs to be addressed. For now, I am changing the default player to something that can actually open and play the files without crying about it.

    I had the same problem few days ago.
    It appears that MP4 format is a lot restricted, and Quicktime/iTunes does not communicate a lot about that. Tipically, Quicktime does not think that MPeg 4 + MP3 is an acceptable MP4 compination.
    To make them a lot more permissive, just try to rename the file extension to .m4v, it'll do the job in many cases, and worked for me on a lot of files.
    Best regards

  • What is a error 2041; invalid sample description mean in quicktime when im trying to open a coverted mp4 file?

    Im trying to import mp4's into itunes ver 11. The ones I have downloaded have gone in fine with a bit of tinkering but when i converted avi files to mp4 and try to open them in quicktime to check them i get an error saying ( error 2041: invalid sample description was found in the movie). These files wont show up in itunes, the progress bar starts loading them but then nothing appears anywhere even home video folder, Nothing. The mp4 files work in VLC player but not quicktime.
    I used dvd fab to covert them. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thank

  • Unable to open JPG file, getting "unknown or invalid JPEG marker was found", help needed

    Info:
    MS Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit SP1
    Adobe Photoshop 64bit CS5 etxended (Version 12.0 x64)
    So downloaded some JPG files from the web and trying to use some of them as wallpapers. I am able to open them in Windows viewer and some other prgrams but they are the wrong size for my screen so I wanted to change the resolution and opened them into CS5 and sound that some of them would not open. I am getting the following error "Could not complete your request because an unknown or invalid JPEG marker was found" and yet there does not seem to be anything I can do to resolve this to open them into CS5.
    Any thoughts or advice?

    Open them into another viewer, copy, then FIle-New in Photoshop and Paste.
    Photoshop is picky and a file that does not properly follow the JPEG standards could cause this kind of problem.  Other apps are sometimes more forgiving.

  • An invalid XML character (Unicode: 0x0) was found in the prolog of the docu

    Hi folks,
    I'm using the SAX parser to parse a small xml file. If I use that file in IE, there its parsing correctly and displaying the xml in the tree structure.
    But in my Java code its throwing
    org.xml.sax.SAXParseException: An invalid XML character (Unicode: 0x0) was found in the prolog of the document.
    The xml parsing code of my program is
    XMLReader parser = XMLReaderFactory.createXMLReader(
    "org.apache.xerces.parsers.SAXParser");
    HelpPartHandler hp = new HelpPartHandler();
    parser.setContentHandler(hp);
    RandomAccessFile raf = new RandomAccessFile("sample.xml","r");
    byte Contents[] = new byte[(int)raf.length()];
    StringReader sr = new StringReader(new String(Contents));
    InputSource is = new InputSource(sr);
    parser.parse(is);
    The xml file is
    <?xml version="1.0"?>
    <ROOT>
    <NODE> Java </NODE>
    </ROOT>
    Please let me know the mistakes what I have done. Looking for the reply.
    Thanks in Advance
    Prabu

    The message seems clear to me. Your document contains a null character, which is not valid in an XML document. Take it out of the document, and change whatever produced the document to not put it there. (I hope you don't consider Microsoft software to be standards-compliant.)

  • An invalid public atom was found. *** is an invalid public atom?

    While trying to export a movie, at the end of exporting, i get the message...an invalid public atom was found...
    That kills the export job i just spent 2.5 hours waiting on (all HD video files, big export job)
    Does anyone know what an invalid public atom is and how to deal with them, get rid of them, get around them...or otherwise stop them from killing my exports?

    I'm having the same problem.  It must because of a recent QuickTime update.  I suspect the iTunes 10.5 update is the culprit.  I shoot with a FireStore (FS-C) and have 5 Macs that can no longer read any of the .mov files.  All the Macs (MacBook,Pro 8,3 / MacBookPro 8,2 / MacBookPro 5,2 / MacBookPro 2,2 / MacMini 4,1) are running 10.6.8 and all were capable of reading the FireStore files...until very recently.  The last footage I edited was on October 9th.  Somewhere between then and today (October 25th), an Apple update made the .mov files unopenable.  When I try to play the files in Final Cut Pro (7.0.3), I get a "General Error" message.
    I've installed VLC and the files will all play properly in the VLC player, so the files themselves are intact.
    UPDATE:  Yes, the problem stems from a recent QuickTime update.  This has been confirmed in the following support notice from VITEC:
    http://www.focusinfo.com/dynassets/documents/downloads/MACOSX_Supp_Anncmt_10.21. 11.pdf
    I'm going to try downgrading my installed QuickTime and I'll post the results.

  • An invalid XML character (Unicode: 0x19) was found in the CDATA section.

    First my declaration in the xml file was:
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
    Then since the error(Exception:java.io.UTFDataFormatException: invalid byte 2 of 2-byte UTF-8 sequence (0x3f)) resulted for "", I changed it to:
    "<?xml version="1.0" encoding="ISO-8859-1"?>"
    Now for some cases I have an error:
    Exception:org.xml.sax.SAXParseException: An invalid XML character (Unicode: 0x19) was found in the CDATA section.
    What do I do NOW?
    What wrong have I been doing in the past?
    How could I make sure that no such encoding errors result?
    Thanking you in anticipation,
    Cheers

    Possibly got some invalid non-printing character in there somewhere... possibly as a result of conversion between platforms etc. Or you are parsing a file that was encoded using a totally different character set to the ones you're attempting to read it with. What originally created the XML file you are trying to parse?
