Error-2048

I expect this forum abounds with questions on this issue but I have not seen anything yet to help me that works.
I have the full QTPro version 7.1.3 and every time I try and open an mpeg2 file (that plays fine in Media Player) it says error-2048 not a movie file.
Can someone please help me to fix this as I want to covert mpg2 files to mpg4 in QT for easier emailing and quick viewing in iTunes.
Thanks
Julian

I just wanted to second QuickTimeKirk. Downloading MPEG-2 Playback fixed my 2048 parsing error as well.
I'd also like to add my two-bits regarding QuickTime's Application lack of feedback. When trying to play a Client's Windows generated MPG on the Mac running QuickTime 7.1.3 the only error message generated was a very generic "Can't open File" or something equally as vague. I was totally at a loss. It wasn't until I tried to open the same file in iMovie that I discovered the "couldn't parse - 2048" message which led me here. Come on Apple... if I am going to believe your ad campaign comparing Mac's multimedia prowess compared to Windows, why not try a little harder! Very frustrating to have to spend an hour troubleshooting QuickTime in 2006!!!

  • I keep getting an error 2048 everytime I try to play back my Maya file that I saved as a qt movie. I just recently updated qt and this is when the errors would pop up. Before the update I had no problems. How can I fix this?

    I updated quicktime a few days ago and now I keep getting error 2048 whenever i try to play back my Maya file after saving it as a qt movie. I had no issues with this before I did the update, after the update I keep getting the error 2048 message. QT will play my earlier Maya movies and other video, it just won't play back my latest work. Help me please, I need this for school.

    The 2048 error message usually suggests the files use MPEG-2 format which is not supported natively on Windows via QuickTime without the additional MPEG-2 Playback Component ($20 from Apple).

  • Error - 2048 not a valid movie file

    hello,
    I'm a NAPP member and had been following the photoshop TV casts on QT....however, now I get the error message 'error - 2048 not a valid movie file'...its an mpeg4 QT file, but I get the message whenever I attempt to play the downloaded file...or when I try to just watch the stream, it won't open the URL...these are the only movies that I'm having this problem with...as I can watch other movies from other sites w/o incident...NAPP hasn't replied to my inquiries except that they don't support the TV shows.
    Any ideas?...would be appreciated...
    Thanks...

    Thank you very much for the link to videolan.org. I was having the same problem playing downloaded Photoshop TV videos. I tried MPlayer which worked but was not comprehensible. I had never heard of videolan, but it works like a charm.
    Thanks again.

  • Error 2048 not a movie file

    QT 7 pro was working fine at first.Now when I try to play a video file I get "error 2048 not a movie file. The file plays fine in another player. Also QT will play a QT movie but not a file. I have QT installed on two computers with the exact same problem on both. please help.

    Yes the format of the files is windows media video files. They play successfully on real player and on VLC media player.
    They were also playing on itunes,but now they won't play on QT or itunes. By play a movie I mean the movie was downloaded as a QT movie. The desktop icon says QTmovie. The files That give the 2048 error have real player on the desktop icon.I have uninstalled and reinstalled, even disabling norton before reinstalling still error 2048 on QT. P.S. Itunes and QT were downloaded as a bundle, whatever the problem is is affecting itunes because now when i add files to library they don't show up.

  • Error 2048 under Windows 7 64bit when opening DNxHD .mov

    Hi people,
    i'm experiencing a weird problem while trying to open a DNxHD encoded .mov file with quicktimeplayer under windows 7 64 bit.
    getting the error 2048: "Couldn't open the file  because it's not a file that QuickTime understands."
    filesize is 5,6 GB and im running Quicktime 7.7.5, the file was encoded using avid media composer.
    Other (smaller, around 2GB) files from the same source and using the same codec will play back fine!
    This file is running fine on my macbook (10.8.5), but will fail to play under windows 7 bootcamp or on my PC.
    I've read about filesize-limits around 4 GB, is there some truth to that?
    thanks for your help
    EDIT: i need to be able to play back the file with quicktime-components (not vlc or something like that)  because im working with protools, which is using quicktime for video-playback.

    Thanks for your reply nyc.
    But the code i copied is in fact an extract of the USBDescriptors.c present in this directory.
    If I try to execute this example, the result is the same.

  • Quicktime error 2048

    I am having issues with trying to get MP4 files imported into Itunes.
    After several attempts I did some experimenting.
    I converted a DVD in to MP4 format and it will not load.
    The complete DVD movie convetted to MP4 is 2.2gb in size.
    This movie will not load into Itunes and also will not play with quicktime. quicktime gives a 2048 error this is not a movie format.
    Took the same movie and made the file smaller, new file is 2.0gb and it will load and play in both quicktime and itunes.
    Dont know if there is a file size limitation for Itunes and Quicktime.
    Hope someone can come up with a solution for the 2048 error
    Larry
      Windows XP

    Since I posted this thread, I have discovered some things that might cause the error 2048.
    As I memtioned in my first post the error I was getting was for a file that was 2.2gb in size. When I reduced the file size to 2.04gb the error went away. I also have converted 5 other DVD files to MP4 with out the error comming back again.
    The 5 other files were less than 2.0gb in size. All files work fine in quicktime and Itunes and on my Ipod.
    One other thing that I did was to take the 2.2gb file and split it in half and transfer it to my Itunes. This also worked as I could play the first half and then take a short intermission and play the second half.
    It is my opion that Itunes and quicktime may have issues with files over 2.2gb in size.
    Just my $.02 worth.

  • Problems with a QuickTime movie file.  Error 2048 message

    I am having problems with a QuickTime file.
    The file is on a TDK 4GB pen drive.
    I can access the file without problem directly from the pen drive.
    I am using a Sony VAIO Laptop running Windows 7.
    QuickTime version 7.71.80.42.
    When I transfer the file to a folder or upload to send via e-mail on Hotmail and then try to open it I receive an Error 2048 message - "Couldn't open the file.......because it is not a file that QuickTime understands.
    Any help would be appreciated.

    You should be fine: a standard DVD can contain up to 120 minutes of video, but this includes menus etc.
    iDVD is not concerned with file sizes, just length. It will automatically compress the iMovie file to the standard DVD format of mpeg2 - which is 4.7GB for 120 minutes!
    I have once made a family DVD 115 minutes long, but after the family either protested or fell asleep, I have tried to keep them under 75 minutes!

  • Cannot open corrupted .mov file - error 2048 unsupported format

    Hi all,
    I have an important corrupted video file and I have tried every way I can think of to open it, but to no avail...
    When I open it with Quicktime, an "error 2048 unsupported format" shows up, even though other videos I took are fine.
    I can't open this video with ANY softwares including VLC and friends (trust me, I tried LOADS of them)..
    After doing MUCH research I understand that either the header/closing part of the file is messed up.
    Is anyone able to teach me how to fix those parts?
    I'm really at the end of my wits and I'm a just beginner to hex-editing @.@ Better still, if you are able to take a look at this video for me...
    I'll be very glad if anyone can help me out with this as I really wish to recover the video, this is for an important friend, thanks in advance!
    P.s. the video is about 120mb in size

    Hi
    Im using the tool called SUPER.
    Its free and you can convert any file format to any other file format
    Maybe it would be possible to convert his faulty file to another format and ten you could try to open it again using VLC player or other application.

  • HT1536 ERROR 2048

    i try to play some videos with QT end see a mesage : error 2048  could;n play this file mod.oo1. my camera is JVC and before 1 year the QT is wos ok.
    thanks

    Older JVC cameras recorded in MPEG-2 format (.mod files) and QuickTime for Windows can't play them without additional software support (costs about $20).
    Try playing them with the free VLC player, instead.

  • Applw error 2048

    Hi, just uploaded QT pro and was trying import a 720p Mpeg to quicktime pro so I could format it to H264. I got the following error message Error 2048 QT doesn't understand the format. Whats up? I can export it though my editing software which is Avid Liquid 7.2 to a Mpeg 4 with no problem but my editing software when using QT wouldnt do it either. Any help.

    I bought quicktime Pro and tried to convert 720p which is in the mepeg 2 format to H.264 and it wouldn't do it. I think H.264 is high def right? If I buy the Mpeg 2 software from apple will I be able to use that to format it quicktime? If not and I have to go to SD what compression gives the best video? Any help please jump in. Thanks.

  • Error 2048 (qtvr and .mov)

    First, hello and thanks for any answers.
    Second, in before "download VLC"
    Using QT 7.6.4 and i am unable to view qtvr files from websites as well as any .mov i have on my pc. When attempting to view a .mov on my pc, i get error 2048 and neither IE nor firefox, (or Safari for that matter) will play qtvr files on websites. Combed through plenty of posts regarding this issue to no avail. Tried a simple uninstall and reinstall, changed file associations and reset them. What am i missing.
    OS is Vista sp2
    Thanks again and sorry if this was already addressed.

    I (and another people, see this thread - http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2153482&tstart=0) seem to be having a similar problem. The only advice I got was to wait for a new update to QuickTime, but some people in the thread I posted a link to gave some suggestions that may help you.

  • Error -2048 when wanting to watch September Webcast

    Ey guys.
    Whenever I want to watch the Setpember release of the apple webcast (http://www.apple.com/quicktime/qtv/showtime06/), I recive the following error: "Error -2048. The file is not a movie file". I assume that this is a problem at my end because people I know can access it fine.
    I have tried with Firefox 1.5 and IE 6.0, QT Pro and then unistalling to QT Basic.
    Does anyone know how to fix this problem?
    AMD 64 3500+   Windows XP   1 Gig RAM, 6600GT

    I get the same error message as craigsman when I try to open a movie file on Windows Quicktime Pro 7.0.4. that I created with GarageBand.
    As I can play the same file on Mac mini with Quicktime Player 7.1.3 without any problem I guess it's a software issue.
    Note that Windows Quicktime Pro 7.0.4. opens other files than those created with GarageBand without any problem and even the http://www.apple.com/quicktime/qtv/showtime06/

  • Error -2048:H

    Quite recently MOVxx.MOD files cannot be opened anymore and a message 'error -2048:H' appears. Different attempts failed. Even QT de-installed and re-installed. Sometimes, the error message is: this file is not a movie file.
    Have executed totally clean W7 installation. Still message 'error -2048:H'.
    Files are not corrupt as they can be opened in Windows Media Player.
    As Quicktime codes for MOVxx.MOD files are essential for Magix VideoDeluxe 16 Premium video software, I am unable to proceed setting up own films and would like to have support.
    Thanks in advance

    Your .MOD files are MPEG-2 format which require additional software to be playable in QuickTime Player:

  • Error #2048: Security sandbox violation

    I've been developing Flex apps for a couple of years now and feel comfortable with my development environment.
    I'm testing out Gumbo in my same environment (new workspace): WAMP based
    My test app works fine on my localhost set up... but when I upload the files to my hosted domain server... I get Error #2048: Security sandbox violation.
    Specifically:
    - I'm invoking an HTTPService by setting the url to a relative path (folder/file in same dir as the swf)
    - I set method to POST and useProxy to false
    (<fx:Declarations>
            <s:HTTPService id="contentService" url="data/verd_content.xml" method="POST" useProxy="false" resultFormat="e4x" />
        </fx:Declarations>)
    - I wrapped the send call in a try / catch block and show an Alert with the error message in the catch... here's what it says
    body = (null)
      clientId = "DirectHTTPChannel0"
      correlationId = "F4B9A542-8B00-5CDB-3C36-1316919FC255"
      destination = ""
      extendedData = (null)
      faultCode = "Channel.Security.Error"
      faultDetail = "Destination: DefaultHTTP"
      faultString = "Security error accessing url"
      headers = (Object)#1
        DSStatusCode = 0
      messageId = "E629F555-EF8B-E535-7CE4-13169662A82A"
      rootCause = (flash.events::SecurityErrorEvent)#2
        bubbles = false
        cancelable = false
        currentTarget = (flash.net::URLLoader)#3
          bytesLoaded = 0
          bytesTotal = 0
          data = (null)
          dataFormat = "text"
        eventPhase = 2
        target = (flash.net::URLLoader)#3
        text = "Error #2048: Security sandbox violation: http://****.com/Main.swf cannot load data from http://localhost:***/data/verd_content.xml?hostport=***t.com&https=N&id=F4B9A542-8B00-5CDB -3C36-1316919FC255."
        type = "securityError"
      timestamp = 0
      timeToLive = 0
    *NOTE: I obfuscated parts of the url for security reasons
    I read the other similar posts here about problems like this when using the PHP / Zend set up... but I checked the .actionScriptProperties file and it does not have any URLs in there (like localhost:port#)
    I'm not using a service-config.xml file in this project... but I have set up WebORB for PHP servers and use that all the time... so I know how that works...
    Is this a bug or am I missing something new in the Gumbo ?
    Again: my swf file is in a folder in the webroot on my ISP
    also inside that folder is another folder with an XML file in it
    I'm setting an HTTPService call using the url parameter on a POST with a relative file path (folder/filename.xml)
    changing the url to an absolute makes no difference...
    thanks in advance for any help

    Sure...
    here's the code that contains both the HTTPService setup and the URLLoader setup... like i said in the original post.. the HTTPService call throws the error described, whereas the URLLoader call does not:
    private var loader : URLLoader = new URLLoader();
    private var req : URLRequest = new URLRequest("data/***dant_content.xml");//path obfuscated
    protected function Application_creationComplete():void
        // This works...
        loader.addEventListener( Event.COMPLETE, parseContent );
        loader.addEventListener( IOErrorEvent.IO_ERROR, contentFault );
        // This does not...
        /* contentService.addEventListener( ResultEvent.RESULT, parseContent );
            contentService.addEventListener(FaultEvent.FAULT, contentFault ); */
        try
            loader.load( req );
        catch (err:Error)
            Alert.show("In Try Catch Error Block: " + err.message);
            currentState='home';
    the HTTPService was set up like this: (again, i obfuscate the URLs for security)
        <fx:Declarations>
            <s:HTTPService id="contentService" url="data/***dant_content.xml" method="POST" useProxy="false" resultFormat="e4x" />
        </fx:Declarations>
    the parseContent function setup in the event listener justs reads the XML file and uses that data to build an image gallery.
    hope this helps (for what its worth: I'm not doing anything serious with Gumbo as of yet due to these kinds of bugs)

    really its strange only the site works if my flash builder is running , please help

      Thanks all for your attention, i have solved my problem and i think its a bug in the flash builder , the problem was that when you compile the application and you enabling Network Monitoring , the communication of the AMF channels done throw the  http://localhost:37813/flex2gateway/
    and that was the problem if you close the flash builder on your system that getaway dose not exist and on the hosted server there is no such address localhost by this port also so the client application witch is catch in you system try to access your localhost and that cause a security error and the address is also not exist .
    so the solution or we have to compile the project after we disable the Network Monitoring in flash builder .
