Error 21 unable to restore after update

Hello,
I recently tried to download the new update as it pestered me everytime I plugged my iPhone in (think it was 4.1). It failed, and as a result it said that I had to restore my iPhone. So I go to restore it and now it says unable to restore (error 21).
I literally have no clue what's going on. Anybody out there offer me any suggestions or advice on how to fix this problem?

*Basically you need to disable your Anti-virus software and then do a DFU restore.*
*How to DFU Restore.*
1.) Open iTunes and connect the iPhone.
2.) Press and HOLD the Home button AND the Sleep/Wake button at the same time.
3.) After the screen turns off, +LET GO+ of the Sleep/Wake button and +CONTINUE HOLDING+ the Home button.
4.) iTunes will pop up a message telling you that it has detected an iPhone in Recovery Mode. (You can let go of the Home button now.)
5.) Click 'Restore' to restore your phone to Factory settings.
Also, try updating to the latest version of iTunes before you do this.

HT201412 Unable to Restore after Update

I was trying to update my parents iPad 2, which was long over due as it has never been updated. After the update was complete it said that it failed to restore. It is now froze..iTunes no longer recognizes the device and the devices screen shows a picture of a USB plug with an arrow pointing to the iTunes logo. This appears after being reset, powered off and plug into an outlet. Any suggestions as to what should be done? At this point I dont care what is lost, I would just like it to work again...

Unable to Restore after Update

I upgraded my touch and now I have to restore but I get the following error message - The iPod "ipod" could not be restored. An unknown error occured (21) Can anyone help, I really need this back working and soon. Thanks

I had the same problem when trying to do the latest update. Took it back to an apple store and it restored first time on a Mac in the shop. Then came home and restored from a back up and put all my stuff back on (never under-estimate the importance of backing up). The shop recommended I re-install I-tunes in case it has got some corrupt data in it, as I know the problem is not my cable as it worked ok with my Nano. So, it should be able to be sorted for you, you need to get it to a Mac.

my iphone will not restore after update. it is stuck in recovery mode. i get error code 4013 everytime a try to restore but i cant find anything on error code 4013.

DFU mode is also good as stated above, however the instructions for DFU mode are below (please note this is not the same as recovery mode) -
Plug your device into your computer.
Turn off the device.
Hold the Home button and Power button for 10 seconds
Release the Power Button but keep holding the Home button
Keep holding the Home button until you are alerted by iTunes saying that it has detected a device in Recovery Mode
Make sure the device screen is blank and no logos are present, device screen should remain black.
Error 4013 is due to security software issues. Uninstall all security software completely, try again, if the issue persists I would either recommend another computer or calling AppleCare tech support at 1-800-APL-CARE (for US customers).
Note- this is even if your device worked fine prior to iOS 7 update with your security software. The change in the operating system on the device can cause compatibility issues with these other programs.

Usually the 1303 error is in regards to a corrupted or missing backup of your iPod Touch. Try removing or moving the backups to another location and then try to restore your iPod once again.

It is very difficult to offer troubleshooting suggestions when the "os version" you are using is unknown as each os has their own troubleshooting solutions.

connect phone to iTunes, click OK on any of the error boxes that come up. sounds like your phone was jailbroken. If this is the case, you're hosed.
