Error 21 while updating to iOS 5
While updating both my iPhone 3GS and iPad 2 to iOS5 I get error 21 while restoring after the update. I keep getting it no matter how many time I restore. What can I do?
i had the same problem, i called apple care and they told me that it was a hardware issue but not too worry i fix mine by reinstalling win 7 on my computer and it worked like a charm, but if you dont want to do that try
check your host file in windows and make sure it hasnt been edited
check firewall and make sure that the ports that itunes needs are allowed through
when updating turn your antivirus off
but if that dont work i know if you want it up and working until u find out what the issue is i would recommend tiny umbrella so u can kick out of recovery mode (needs java)

I have a completely stock normal iPod Touch 3rd gen that I updated to iOS 5 this morning. I have a backup from before the update and a backup from September but I'm having major issues.
The update to iOS 5 seemed fine, but I got an interuption during update error at the end. I turned on my iPod and I have iOS 5 and I have ALL my apps and all my bookmarks and contacts and everything but the most important thing is missing -- music!
Now whether I try todays backup or last months backup I get an Interuption and error (-34) every time. I can't get any of my music back, not all of it came from itunes and I've lot tons of music.
Suggestions please, thanks!That is for an iPhone though.. does that matter? I use Android and only my iPod for music!
I don't care to have iOS 5, I just want my music back
edit* Ahh i see, might be because I only had 1GB left on update, that thread you linked to shows that might be the problem. I'm trying again now with 128kb convert checked and Praying it works! -

I am having problem in Updating my Ipad 3 to IOS 6.1 Error no : 9006
i started to update my ipad without connecting it to itunes and left it to update alone then after couple of hours i went back to see what happend i found that
my ipad not working anymore . everytime i turn it on it says : connect to itunes ( it gives me a picture with the caple and itunes icon
when i do i get message from itunes says : itunes has detected an ipad in recovery mode . you must restore this ipad before it can be used with itunes
so i click on restore ipad , then it ask if i want to resote and update , so i say yes then it start download the IOS 6.1 to restore and update in same time( btw i cant restore without updating ) . after finish downloading ,in processing mode i get the Error message 9006 .
then i everything is gone and i have to download again
i have done it 8 times its making me crazy and the download is 1gb its not small update !! it takes a lot of time !! please help mewhat is the error? if you want help you need to provide some details.

i Have a iPhone 3G (Unlocked).
I'm Trying to update it to iOS 4.
When restore process, it paused in the 20% of progress bar. .
I have tried many times. and always paused at the same progress(20%).
I unplugged the cable, and reset my iPhone, then do the same process again.
Some times , there was an error message with code: (14)(but. . this is only sometimes)
is it wrong with the firmware or my iPhone or with USB?
Any idea?

You have to read the entire support article and follow the subsequent links if the first solutions do not resolve the issue....

I am getting error (-1) while updating my iPhone 4 to iOS 5.1. The phone has gone into a recovery mode. Restore fails every time at "restoring the firmware" stage. Striped bar remains for a long time, then shows "error (-1)" and the restore fails. I have been doing it for last 12 hours. Help!
Thanks for your reply Michalo. I am in India and here Apple care does not work on Sundays. I have been without my phone for the entire day. Perhaps tomorrow will bring some respite. There is not solution to "error (-1)" on any forum it seems. I found one forum which suggested use of Tiny Umbrella. Any idea about that?

Hi, my iphone 5 encountered an unknown error while updating to iOS 7 via itunes and is now stuck in recovery mode and prompts me to restore the phone when I connect it to itunes but then I would lose all my data. I DO NOT have any back ups on itunes. Is there anyway to get out of recovery mode without restoring or recover data after a restore?
Or any other suggestions please? ThanksAs pdroth said, you should have gotten a backup made when you started the update of iOS. If you cannot find a backup, and the phone is in recovery mode, there are no futher suggestions to make. To get the phone working again you have to restore. You cannot force a backup at this time since it is already in recovery mode. It will not allow anything else but a restore at this point.

When i try to update...after a while it will give me a message saying that(( an error occurred while downloading the ios 6.1.2))

Be aware that this is a very large file to download, it needs a strong consistent internet connection.
Have the iPhone on the charger cable too.
In the meantime read the threads in this forum about the visibility item and some other possible issues on the 4 and 4S (although a large number of people have these issues, it is still a minor percentage, but anyhow, be aware). -

I'm having the same problems. Can't even find out if Apple is working on it. Tried to downgrade but is not supported by apple so error 3194 comes up which is verifying with the apple web site. Which then stops everything. I understand you can modify the "hosts" file to by pass the issue, but hate doing that as it gets involved. May try it if I can't get any satisfaction from apple.
