Error 2131-So frustrated!

Hello,
I know this is a common question but I cannot seem to get anything to work. Help would be greatly appreciated.
I am receiving the dreaded Error 2131 message when I try to burn a playlist to a CD, though it does the initialization fine.

Many thanks. I'm having a bit of trouble with Micro Center's support site at the moment, but I can see some other PowerSpec models there too, so I'm pretty sure you're right about that.
It seems unlikely that they would be supplying their own tweaked versions versions of drivers/firmware/BIOS etc (like, say, Dell, HP or Gateway). If so, you'd need to check in at the manufacturer of the component for the PC to get new drivers/firmware/BIOS etc. It might be worth checking on that with Customer support at Micro Center.
If they say "go to the manufacturer's web site for updated drivers for components:
I think your firmware for the SH-S202G is up to date, but it might well still be worth checking in at Samsung to doublecheck. (TSST is "Toshiba Samsung Storage Technology").
Head to the manufacturer of the motherboard to check on BIOS, chipset driver and display adaptor updates.
If you're behind, and you update, does that help with the 2131?

There's newer firmware available from Samsung for that drive. (At least Rev SB01.)
This is a custom/home-built PC? If so, head directly to Samsung's support pages and download the newer firmware. Can you burn without the 2131 with the newer firmware in place?

  • Can t back up library to disc. error 2131 . whats wrong ?

Hi , Can anyone help me back up library to disc. error 2131 keeps appearing.

Update: Success! I used my iPod as an external hard drive following these instructions:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1329?viewlocale=en_US
After I reformatted I reinstalled my old iTunes 6 and dragged the folder back to My Music. At first, iTunes wuldn't sync a couple hundred songs to my iPod because I wasn't "authorized" so I had to enter my Apple ID and password. Downloaded latest software for Itunes and iPod and all is good.
Investing in an external hard drive still sounds like a good idea, since this was my first reformat and it was a bit nerve-wracking.

  • Dell Inspirion 1501 Unknown Error 2131

I can burn with Windows media player, Nero etc. But when I try to burn a cd with Itunes I get and error "Unknown Error 2131" Has anyone else had this problem and if so is it dells problem or itunes problem.
    Thanks

I’m at Dell Headquarters in Austin, Texas and I’m part of Dell’s Online Community Outreach team. I’m sorry to hear that this is a problem and would like to see what I can do to help. I’d be happy to assist in tracking down firmware if anyone is having difficulty finding it. If applying the latest firmware available for that drive doesn’t correct the issue then the next step would be to pursue a patch for the software. It’s been my experience that optical drives are designed to meet certain specifications and then programs such as iTunes written to work with them. Given that the drive meets all applicable industry standards, it would be more of an issue of iTunes being patched to work with it then the other way around. Until such a fix is available, one possible workaround might be to use a different program to burn music CD’s if that can be done in a way that’s in keeping with the DRM rules.

  • Error 2131: can't burn CDs

I recently acquired an iShuffle and started using iTunes 9, which I haven't used before. I'm trying to burn an Audio CD but, after introducing a virgin CD (which the program do recognizes) and as soon as the burning process begin my computer opens the CD tray and shows the message "Burn process failed. Unexpected error (2131)" (actual text in English may be different since I'm using the spanish version).
Is there some sort of patch I can download? I found a thread about this error but centered on Dell models, although a poster commented that some Toshiba models show this error precisely. However, the thread is rather old and already closed. Is there any help available now?

I think I fixed it...I went under My Computer, then right clicked on the cd drive that I used to burn, go to properties, went under the auto play tab, selected the action to perform button for each individual category(dvd, blank cd, music cd) selected the no action icon for each category. Then went to the recording tab and unselected the enable recording selection. Now I can burn every time! If this fixes it for anyone else let me know!

    hi Ilkka!
no particularly focussed advice I'm afraid. but there's still a few other things apart from the CD-drive firmware mentioned here that are worth checking up on:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93360
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93286
... and these resources might be helpful:

toonz, "Where to find firmware for your CD/DVD drive", 05:55pm Apr 15, 2005 CDT
... and if no joy with those, head here to check for other documentation and to submit your CD diagnostics to Apple:
    http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/windows/cddiagnostics/
... and periodically refresh your thread here with another post, so passers-by will be able to update you on any developments.
