Error 2416 at CS4 install during "profile checking" which stops at 90%

Hello all,
I found hundreds of similar questions in the Internet, and none find any answer but reinstalling XP which is for me absolutely excluded.
I spent the whole week with Adobe Support which didn't help (all suggestions yielded no fix)
The situation is the following one:
I installed CS4 on a new system running XPP SP3. Install went ok.
I then installed W7 on a secondary disk, which didn't go through
I had to fight to fix my dual boot, then I finally reinstalled XPP (via the CD and the REPAIR feature). This removed my Photoshop product and all others by the way.
So, I reinstalled all my stuff, fine, until it was CS4 turn.
All attemps to install CS4 give a hang at 90% of the "Profile checking" phase.
The last lines of the log are never the same as far as the ERROR number is.
How come ???
This time, I have:

create a new account
remove Google desktop
remove Adobe Flash Player
"purchase" PC Scan & repair to fix error exwhyzee
Close my rear window
give milk to the cat
say hello to my neighbour
and
run in circles five times around my dining room table
None of these attemps give any result.
Any other idea, anyone ?
