Error-29, Cannot burn a DVD or save a disc image from within FCPX using Mountain Lion

Really stumped on this one.
Running Mountain Lion, freshly downloaded version of FCPX, on a 2009 MacPro with 16 G RAM.
Trying to share a 4 minute movie I edited.
- No problem exporting as a quicktime move...worked fine
- Big problem trying to either burn a DVD, save a disc image, or export to an Apple device.
The progress bar gets about 90% complete, and then it stops and a message window comes up that says:
There was an error burning your disc. The operation couldn't be completed. (DSPPublishing error-29)
Thoughts?

From Crash Analyzer:
DSPPublishing error -29 (Final Cut Pro X)
This error can occur when burning a disc if your menu has incompatible assets.
Suggested Actions
If your menu has a background image, make sure the image is not too large. Try reducing the size of the image and saving it as a JPEG or PNG.

  • Cannot update iMovie and iPhoto from Apple Store using Mountain Lion

    Hi,
Everytime I try and update iMovie and iPhoto from the App Store I get an "an error has occured" followed by a "There was an error in the App Store. Please try again later. (20)." I tried to download the update from the apple website, but much to my chagrin I was told "The version of iPhoto installed on this Mac must be updated through the Mac App Store. Check the Mac App Store to see if an update is available."
    Help anyone?
    Thanks,

I have only had one AppleID ever.  I do not have any other AppleIDs.  My kids have thier own... and only one each for this very reason.  Pick an ID and stick with it becuase it will be with you the life of ownership of Apple products.

  • X61s Cannot burn/format DVD

I have tried with multiple blanks DVD-R and I cannot burn any DVD. It runs and then just says general failure. Any way I can troubleshoot this. I do not have another drive to test.
    It says DVD MultiRecorder CD-RW
Is this in fact a DVD Burner.
Thanks for any help and/or suggestions.

It is not a DVD burner. It is a CD-RW and could read DVD disc. So you could burn DVD-ROM by this device.

  • Save as disc image to blank DVD

If I was to save a disc image on a blank DVD, can I still use it the disc image for the future to burn a new DVD for friends and family. I also like to use the disc image as a backup. Will this work for me.

  • If I replace my old iMac with a new one can I burn DVDs on an external drive using Mountain Lion or Toast?

My 2006 iMac is getting a bit long in the tooth and I was thinking of replacing it with a new one. However, Mac have not included an optical drive and I back up my photographs on DVD as well as external hard drives. I also supply DVDs of my work to friends etc.
Will I be able to burn to an external drive using Mountain Lion or other software such as Toast? Does the burn option still exist on the new machines?

    Hello,
You shouldn't have any problem, if you do just try Burn...

  • IDVD unexpectedly quits after clicking "Save as Disc Image"

I want to author and burn a DVD, but my iBook doesn't have a DVD-burner.
Unfortunately iDVD 5 (or 5.0.1 build 26) quits unexpectedly after I click "Save as Disc Image". The system offers me to send a report to Apple which I have done a dozen of times.
The error report looks like this: http://lepo.it.da.ut.ee/~aloola/idvdunexpectedlyquits2.html
My iBook came with Panther and iDVD installed. Since I did not need it initially I deleted it to save disk space. A few weeks ago I upgraded to Tiger. A few days ago I needed to author a DVD. I reinstalled iMovie and iDVD from my Panther install discs (the upgrade to Tiger DVD does not contain them). iMovie seems to work just fine. I captured the video (about 23minutes) from camera and after adding chapter marks launched an iDVD project from iMovie. The authoring worked fine as well. Up to the point where I need to save my dvdproject as disc image. iDVD just quits.
So I tried reinstalling it, changing preferences, creating a project with a small .mov file (25MB), repairing permissions, using using the "'Pfurz' and 'Hurz'" files etc. Nothing seems to make it work. I have 15GB of free space on my hard drive and it is very hard for me to free some more. Anyway space shouldn't be an issue, if I try to save a dvdproject that only contains a short (2:30) movie trailer. There should be plenty of room for rendering and saving this small disc image.
I would really appreciate it if anyone could give me some advice what to try next. I am out of ideas and frustrated about having bought a program with my iBook, that is virtually useless without this "Save as Disc Image" feature working.
Is there a direct way to contact Apple support by email to notify them about this issue and receive official feedback whether it will be repaired or if my computer perhaps need some "repairing"?

    aloola,
    Welcome to the iDVD forum!
    after adding chapter marks
Make sure your chapter markers conform to these rules:
    http://dvd.kentidwell.com/?page_id=53
    changing preferences....repairing permissions
I know you've done it before, but it's a good idea to delete the iDVD plist file anytime iDVD unexpectedly quits, so do it again.
    15GB of free space
In your case (only 23 minutes of movie) I'd have to agree that 15GB should be enough. But do everything you can to get more space anyway.
Sometimes movies themselves have some glitch in them that is causing iDVD to crash. Make another short dummy iMovie (just use some Ken Burns clips) and see if you can "Save as Disk Image" Also check to make sure there isn't "extra" audio that extends beyond the end of the video in iMovie, as this has been known to cause problems.
Try creating a new user and see if that user can "Save as Disk Image"
Is there a direct way to contact Apple support by email
No you call Applecare (by phone) if your Mac is still eligible.

  • Can't do a save as disc image

I have iMovie '09 (8.0.6) iDVD 7.1.2 and am having a problem saving a large file (3.9gb) as a disc image. This file was made in iMovie with chapters and I "Shared to Media Browser" (I am using the .m4v file).I did a short (2 min.) test file in iDVD to make sure I could get the chapters to work and save a disc image before doing the large project. The short test project successfully saved a disc image and I was able to see it with the DVD player. When I try to save as a disc image the time remaining is 37 min (I have a main menu and 2 sub menus) and the process quits after "rendering menu video asset". It is like there is no movie file inserted. Can anyone tell me what I am doing wrong, or not doing right. Thanks for any help you can provide.

The file is .m4v and 71 min long.
    • .m4v is also a container - Please open it with QuickTime Player and open Inspector and read in what codec it is.
    • 71 min long - iDVD doesn't care about Gbs at all only time and this is Movie time AND MENU Time (as this can take 15 minutes and even more from the project) AND the various Encoding Qualities has different acceptance in time as:
iDVD 08, 09 & 11 has three levels of qualities. (version 7.0.1, 7,0.4 & 7.1.1) and iDVD 6 has the two last ones
    • Professional Quality
(movies + menus up to 120 min.) - BEST (but not always for short movies e.g. up to 45 minutes in total)
    • Best Performances
(movies + menus  less than 60 min.) - High quality on final DVD (Can be best for short movies)
    • High Quality (in iDVD08 or 09) / Best Quality (in iDVD6)
(movies + menus up to 120 min.) - slightly lower quality than above
Menu can take 15 minutes or even more - I use a very simple one with no audio or animation like ”Brushed Metal” in old Themes.
    About double on DL DVDs.
The menu (theme?) is called scrapbook and there is audio and no photos.
    • I use an as simple Menu possibly and no animation or Audio on this e.g. Brushed Metal from old themes
Also there is over 600 GB free.
    • Great - my minimum is 25Gb free space - AND it is ONLY the Start-Up (Mac OS) hard disk that counts as neither Mac OS or iDVD can address any other for their temp. files.
    I sat and watched it save to disc image again, and it did work;
    • If You got a DiskImage that works OK then You can use Disk Util tool to burn it onto a DVD
I captured the movie from a VHS tape; I'm converting old home movies. By the end of the tape the audio is not in sync with the video.
    • here You do as in so many Q: - anticipate that I/We are Magic in a way or two. You have to describe from VHS/VCR - step by step how Your material ended up in What Video-editor ?
Use of A/D-box - brand and type
Use of DVD-Recorder - brand and type AND IN WHAT Codec material is burned to DVD
Use of iMovie HD6 (very very good for VHS to DVD - near to ZERO loss in quality)
Use of iMovie08 to 11 - Not the choice of me as You lose every second line in the picture and it can not deliver full interlaced video over to iDVD any way known to me.
Use of FinalCut - and project set up as HOW ?
AND - way from this to iDVD - I NEVER use "Share to iDVD" as result will Suffer.
As You see - there are lot's of info needed to be able to be of help.
I use a A/D-Box (Canopus/Grass Valley ADVC-300) as this has two Major functions not found on cheaper solutions
    • Repairs broken TimeCode
    a. No Baby-sitting during Capture
    b. Audio keep in Full Sync.
    • Program added that enhance picture quality during Import/Capture.
I'm not sure how to fix that other than to capture in smaller segments and link them together in iMovie. I have already captured all the segments and am now in the process of creating the movie file to use in iDVD.
    • Might work but way to tedious for me.
    Yours Bengt W

  • What is "Save as Disc Image"

What is this used for? I am having problems burning in iDVD. The computer freezes toward the end of encoding the video and I have read to "Save as Disc Image" first. Thanks
Also, how do I tell if I camcorder is 14-bit or 16-bit audio?
    Thanks

Save to Disk simply allows you to make a DVD without burning it to an actual disk, but a disk image. You can then open it using DiskOpener and play it in DVD Player and test to see it works. Also you can use it as an archive.
I personally use this if I have any photo assets, as I have had issues and test the DVD this way before burning.
The freeze at the end of the burn can be a natural affair. It depends on your computer speed etc. Sometimes it looks like it has frze, but looking in activity monitor shows it is still working. It can encode audio in this state, etc. The best thing to do is to start a burn before you go to bed. Leave the computer running and don't have any other applications open. OK

  • Save as Disc Image option or technique for DVDSP?

one thing about iDVD I miss since beginning to learn DVDSP is its "Save As Disc Image" feature.
I don't see such a command, menu item or mention of anything like this in the manual.
Build seems to come close by producing a virtual DVD, but I don't see a path to enable me to use that virtual DVD to then produce actual physical DVDs.
Can someone please shed light on this for me?
    thank you!
    r

At the bottom of the Build and Format dialog, in the section marked Destination, you will see a button labelled Output Device. It will normally show your DVD burner. Click it and change to Hard Drive.
The Output Format button will jump to the .img (Disk Image) setting.

  • Save as disc image help

I did a save as disc image to my desktop. Can I burn a dvd from a disc image and still get the same quality, as if I was to just burn without a disc image. I burn best quality. If I could burn from disc image how do i do.

The answer is Yes, the disc image will be the exact same quality that you would get if you had just burned it directly from iDVD without a disc image.
You would burn this disc image from Disk Utility. This is inside the /Applications/Utilities directory.
First, you'd drag the disc image from Finder into the side window of Disk Utility, and then select it, and hit the "Burn" button on top of the window.

  • Unable to create Disc Image from DVD

I get the following error when trying to make a copy of a family wedding DVD. I'm using Disc Utility and creating the image as a DVD/CD master (.cdr) file. It gets to about 3/4 of the way and then gives the following error.
The internal drive is a PIONEER DVD-RW DVR-K05
Sep 10 22:13:24: Disk Utility started.
Creating Image “Wedding of xxx & xxx.cdr”
    Reading VOLUME_IDENTIFIER (Apple_UDF : 0)...
Unable to create “Wedding of Sarah & Federico.cdr” - Input/output error.
I've tried twice now and the same error. Looks like I might have to use Toast/Popcorn etc?
    Thanks,

I do not know what that error means. However, if you open up the Disk Utility & go into it's Help Menu & in the search field type duplicating a CD or DVD. There you will find detailed instructions on how to create a disc image from a DVD.
Good possibility your answer may be found there and/or there may have been something you missed in creating a disc image.
    Good luck.

  • Save As Disc Image

I made a movie using iMovie5 and was unable to burn possibly there was a software glitch with iDVD5.
So I bought iLife6 and uploaded iMovie6 and iDVD6 only.
My movie's still on the hard drive and I'd like to proceed with iDVD6. I've read through several postings on these boards and know that I should Save As Disc Image before attempting a burn.
    Three questions:
    1. When I open iDVD6 one of the themes appears with an annoying ragtime music loop. Maybe I'll use the themes in the future, but right now I'd like to dispense with them. How can I turn the themes and the music loop off?
    2. Using iDVD6 I created a new project for my existing movie. I clicked the Media button and noticed that my movie project is visible in the lower pane under Movies. That is as I expected. I played the project and all appears well. I detected no hitches. I then dragged and dropped the project into the Map pane, that is, into a box that has these words "Drag content here to automatically play when the disc is inserted." Question: Am I taking the right steps?
    3. I then clicked iDVD>File>Save As Disc Image and got a drop down box saying "There were warnings during content validation. It is recommended to fix these problems before burning the project." What does that mean in plain English? There were no further indications as to the nature of the problems, so I don't know where they're located or what to fix. How do I proceed?
    using the
    ibook g4 Mac OS X (10.4.3)

    1. Select an Old Theme that doesn't have music and animation.
    2. Yes. If you want it to loop endlessly, click on that file, go to Advanced/Loop.
    3. You probably selected a theme with drop zones that you haven't filled. An image should encode OK if that's the case. It did for me when I didn't want to fill those DZs.

  • I keep getting "error occurred while attempting to import file *******. The disc your are attempting to use is full." I have an external hard drive that I moved files over to, but apparently they're also still on my hard drive? HELP!

I keep getting "error occurred while attempting to import file *******. The disc your are attempting to use is full." I have an external hard drive that I moved files over to, but apparently they're also still on my hard drive? HELP!

So you have backed up the content of the computer's hard drive, too?
That usually is a great idea since it is possible to lose use of the system
if parts of it have accidentally been removed or get over-written, or the
main system files get corrupted, when the hard disk drive gets too full.
If you have not trashed the originals of your created content, that remain
after you made copies on an external hard drive or other device, then
that is what you'd have to do to reclaim the capacity still in use by them.
What are specifications of the hard disk drive? The unused capacity
verses the used, in GB? If the hard drive has less than 15 to 20%
free or unused capacity, you could run into trouble. Mine are 40-50%
unused hard drive space, so ample room is available for automatic
Virtual Memory to use that capacity as temporary swap file space.
This is helpful when the computer could use more physical RAM
memory capacity, but doesn't have it. Or if the RAM is maxxed out
and you can't add any more. Virtual Memory is part of OS X and the
system automatically can use as much as is available, but it is better
to be sure there is plenty of resources available to include chip RAM
as well as unused or free hard drive capacity for use as VM.
If for some reason your files in Trash won't go away when you empty
it, you may have to restart. Be sure you have not included any System
files in the content in the Trash, or the Mac may not start up later on.
You may have to boot the computer from the install-restore OS X DVD
and run Repair Disk from its version of Disk Utility, to be sure it's OK.
I'm guessing that by now you know enough about the vintage system
in the older hardware to figure it out, so I won't write about it now.
In any event... hopefully you can simply trash the files, but check them
carefully, & you may need to remove (copy to archive first) even more.
    Good luck & happy computing!
