Peter, that link won't work for me. Not sure if it's good.It works fine for me (and it's unlikely that Peter has had time to change it). The referenced article is a bit depressing, though - replete with handwringing whines from "photographers" who went into weddings and other serious events without a backup camera. Thanks Bob, now it's working for me too. Surprised to hear that.

I have a 3 week old Rebel T4i. Iam using a 16GB Sandisk SDHC card. Went fine for last 3 weeks. All of a sudden, the camera throws out an error message stating "No card in camera".
Need help..Has anyone faced this type of error & what can be done to solve this.I have not had the exact same problem but I have had the video consistently stop recording on me about 1 minute to 2 minutes in of recording the video. Can you try and do a low level format of the card? If you can not do that do have a reciept for the Camera and the Memory card if you are having troubles right away I would not settle please do yourself a favor and take it right back. Canon makes amazing products but maybe once a million they make one that is a bad one but more than likely someone handled like a football and dropped it about 10 times. I would save yourself the grief of troubleshooting it here and just take it back or ask Canon for in Warranty service if that is not possible.

For as long as I can remember, my Rebel XS has occationally given me a busy error in the viewfinder. It used to not be that often, but seems to have incresed in frequency. My dad has the same camera, but never has gotten such an error, nor have others I've met with Rebels, so I'm wondering if there's something wrong with mine. I do find that it does this more when I'm in dimmer situations, but seems like it's becoming more sensitive. It's almost like it's taking a really long time to think about what settings to shoot with or whether or not it needs the flash. I always shoot in auto mode and use the AF function on the lense, as do others I've compared experiences with. Wondering if there's anything I can do to fix the problem quickly myself or if I just got a bum model and need to get it repaired professionally or replaced???
"My dad has the same camera, but never has gotten such an error, ..."
Try his memory card in your camera and see if you still get the busy signal. You know he has a good one!

Did not update the firmware since I bought the camera in 2009. I do no know if it is available for my model.
Any help/suggestions are welcome!!

Anil KrishnanI agree... the first thing you should try is a fresh battery. A four year old battery might be on it's last legs (probably depends upon how many times it's been recharged.... and how deeply it was discharged in between charges).
If possible, it would be good to also try a different charger. Sometimes they go bad.
Does your camera have a separate replaceable date/time battery? If so, it might be a good idea to replace that, too. Those types of batteries usually have roughly a five year lifespan.
Wouldn't hurt to update the firmware. If' it's never been done, very likely there is a newer version. Even if it's not an update, it might be a good idea to reinstall it.
HOWEVER, before you attempt to install a firmware update, you must have a reliable, fully charged battery. You don't want to have a camera shut down halfway through a firmware installation. That's almost guaranteed to "brick" the camera. So sort out the battery first, to be certain you don't have problems there.
The reason for replacing the firmware is it might have become corrupted. It's essentially an operating system for the camera, which is essentially a computer... and "stuff" happens, as we all know, to computer operating systems! Sometimes a reinstall or update will correct problems in the software.
Canon's and ebiggs instructions above about "rebooting" the camera are a good idea too. In fact that's the first thing I'd try, since you don't need anything to do it. The reason you "reboot" is to clear any lost data strings from the memory, that might be interfering with the camera's operation. Again, it's a lot like a computer.
A little more about rebooting the camera... If your camera has a date/time battery, in addition to the main, rechargeable... remove both of them. Rather than letting the camera sit, another method is to turn the camera on without any batteries, and press the shutter release button once. It won't fire, of course. But this should drain any remaining charge from the circuit immediately and is faster than waiting for the residual charge to drain off slowly.
Once you have done this (or let the camera sit for 20 minutes or several hours without the battery), go into the menu and see if the date/time needs to be reset. If so, you got a proper reboot.... If not, try again.
In addition to trying a different memory card, always formatted in the camera, also inspect the slot the card fits into carefully. Look at it with a flash light, to see if anything looks damaged, shorted out or if there is any obstruction. Probably not something you can fix yourself, if there is a problem.
I agree about cleaning the lens to camera contacts. I use a few drops of isopropyl alcohol on a clean, lint free cloth. That's to remove any oils (finger oils, or lubricating oils from inside the lens or camera). Just keep off the mirror in the camera and the lens optics.
You also might use the same to clean the battery contacts both on the battery and on the charger (unplug it) and inside the camera. Wipe down the date/time battery, too.
None of the above is certain to fix the problem, but all are fairly easy and free or relatively inexpensive to try.
If none of the above works, then send the camera in to Canon and have it checked.

T4i Rebel error message "movie recording has stopped automatically"
I was recording my client when suddenly I got a this error message "movie recording has stopped automatically" and I could not record video anymore. I am recording on a class 10 sandisk Ultra card. 720/60, EFS18-135mm lens. Never had any problems in the past. First I get a small veterical meter on the frame and then after 5 secs the recording stops with this error message. Please tell me it is opeartor error...I have had this camera for 2 years now and never had a problem. I tried multiple cards.
thanks for the help,
DMEither you or the person you spoke to at Canon was confused.
What the camera requires for video purposes is a card which is "at least" Class 6 or faster. The class designation is an indicator of the cards data transfer speed. Class 6 actually means the card is capable of transfering data (either reading or writing) at "at least" 6 megabytes per second. A Class 10 card can transfer data at "at least" 10 megabytes per second.
The T4i is also compatible with "UHS-1" cards... which are significantly faster than eithe Class 6 or 10.
The reason for requiring "at least" Class 6 has to do with how fast the camera is attempting to capture and save frames of video to the card. The camera actually has an internal memory buffer which is very fast. When you start recording, the data is being saved to that buffer... and simultaneously the camera also starts taking the data from the buffer and saving it to the memory card (which is slower). If the camera is recording video only slightly faster than the card can record, then it will actually take a few minutes before the buffer is completely filled. But at that point the camera has no choice but to stop recording because it has absolutely no place to save data ... the internal buffer is full and it can't empty the buffer because the memory card can't save data as fast as new frames of video are coming in.
Faster is always better.
Memory cards do actually wear out and develop errors over time. This is normal. A good card will re-map the bad blocks so they aren't used anymore... and this is why you should do a low-level format IN CAMERA (not using the computer). Good cards also have a "memory leveling" technology to try to use all the blocks roughly an equal number amount. This extends the userful life of the card.
When replacing the card, do not skimp on quality! I cannot emphasize that point enough. Most times when someone brings up this issue... it's the card that is having problems and not the camera.
It's easy to produce forgery cards which look like a good brand but are not. Buy GOOD cards from REPUTABLE dealers. Do not shop for the cheapest website on the Internet with a questionable reputation in order to save a couple of bucks.
Lexar brand and SanDisk brand are good.
When buying memory cards, I only buy cards from Lexar and SanDisk. I also buy their highest end cards (by speed performance... not necessarily their biggest capactiy cards). I buy the cards from dealers with a solid reputation. This avoids the unpleasant error messages which always seem to happen at the worst possible time.

I am on my second Canon Rebel T3i. Out of the blue I get the Err 05 that the flash can not be raised. I turn it off and back on like it says but that doesn't help. Same thing happened with my first one only a month after I had it. This camera is less than a year old and doing this. Why? Do I have to send it away to be fixed?
There was an issue where the camera thinks an external flash is connected. You can check under the metal brackets where a shoe-bracket flash would go to see if the little button is being pushed down and blow some compressed air over it. If that doesn't help, you'll probably need to send it in for a defective flash release.
Although I do work for the Geek Squad, all comments and opinions are my own. -
07/29/2014 purchased this camera, the very first pic I took, ERROR 30. Did I make a mistake purchasing this camera? I can read instructions and follow directions. 3 downloaded disks and all I want to know is why I'm getting this ERROR 30 and how to correct it? Looks like the Canon's solution is to send the camera in for repairs, not an option on a brand new camera.
I strongly recommend taking it back immediately.
I have had the error 30 code since I purchased the camera in December of 2012. It went away, came back, and went away again. Now it won't function at all, except for taking the one picture when you turn it back on.
I have always been a Nikon fan, but decided to give Canon a try. Now I'm stuck because I purchased several lenses, including the expensive macro.
Had I returned it immediately after discovering this problem I wouldn't be in this position.
It's disappointing and I regret trying Canon. -
Error message says my EOS Rebel T5 isn't compatible with Mac Yosemite--help!
I'm having trouble downloading photos from the camera to Image Browser OX. Says it's not compatible with Yosemite, yet the web site says it should have the correct drivers installed. What do I do?
Apple's photo apps will import images from the camera with no problem (RAW or JPEG - they support both).
If you want to use Canon's software, you'll need to make sure you're running the versions compatible with that OS.
The software is located here: http://www.usa.canon.com/cusa/consumer/products/cameras/slr_cameras/eos_rebel_t5_18_55_is_ii_kit#Dri...
You may be able to update the base install to the latest version. Canon's updaters require that a previous version of the software is installed. If not, you can download the full install (that's the item called the "EOS Digital Solution Disk Software")
Good luck!

I just bought an Apple Lighting to USB Camera Adapter. When I got home to and connected it to my Canon Rebel EOS Digital Camera. I received the error message "This device is not supported" I was wondering if there is any software or drivers I need to download?
Thanks
DonI use Canon Cameras and have no problems downloading photos from the camera to the Lightning to USB Camera Adapter. My questions and suggestions might be basic but just to make sure:
1. This is an iPad forum area. Are you using the lightning to USB camera adapter with an iPad? Your info in your original post says iPod. I'm not sure that the adapter works with an iPod.
2. After you connect the adapter to your iPad and then use a USB cable to connect the adapter to the camera did you turn on the camera?
3. If you did turn on the camera and still did not get the import of photos to start try a reset your iPad. Press and hold the Home and Sleep buttons simultaneously until the Apple logo appears. Let go of the buttons and let the device restart. This will not cause any data loss. -
Cannot delete file. file is in use error
I have a Macbook Pro, 500 GB Time Capsule, and a WD 1TB portable hardrive. All of my music files for iTunes are stored on the Time Capsule. I was backing up the files to the portable hard drive by copy and paste. At some point, I received an error message stating that the operation could not be completed due to an unexpected error -8072. I can't find any information on this error, so I went to the last folder that was copied to the hard drive. On the Time Capsule there was one file in the last folder that copied (...And I'm Out w Mr Lif.mp3) that had a different icon. I tried to preview the file and it didn't play. It didn't show up in the playlist that I created in iTunes for that CD either. I tried to delete the file and when I select send to trash I receive the following error message: Operation cannot be completed due to an unexpected error -8072. When I try to delete the folder that the file is in, I get the following message: the operation can't be completed because the item "1" is in use. When I select Get Info on the file, for permissions it tells me that I have unknown access.
I've shut down, restarted the computer and Time Capsule. There is nothing using the file or the directory. I've tried searching this forum and other forums and I can't find any direction. Would some one mind giving me some advice?
Thanks in advance.and here is the second return:

Updated to latest ACR 6.6 but still can't open CR2 files from Canon Rebel XSi
I updated to latest version of Adobe Camera Raw 6.6 but still can't seem to open my CR2 files in Photoshop. Can't open them in Lightroom either, no preview in Bridge or OS.
I'm running OS 10.7.2 and Photshop 12.1 x 64 which is CS5.1 I suppose.
I've downloaded Canon's EOS utility hoping that would somehow do something as well but nothing.
The images were shot on Canon Rebel XSi which is certainly supported by the newest version of ACR. So I have no clue as to what's happening... I previously downloaded these images onto my old laptop about a year ago and everything was fine, however now I'm not even getting a preview in OS. Do I have to revert to an older version of ACR (perhaps the same one I used originally?) to open these files again? These files have been stored on a hard drive, so I'm not downloading them directly from the camera-again, this probably has nothing to do with it but not sure what to do. A lot of the posts I've seen recommend downloading the latest version of ACR to fix the issue, but again I've done that and as a matter of fact the camera (Rebel XSi) has been supported for some time now...
In OS, when the image is selected no preview:
Lightroom error:
Bridge, no preview:
Photoshop error:
Ideas, suggestions?

Please help.
Thanks in advance,
ArthurSomething appears to be wrong with your files.
Are most of your images approx. 3.7 MB?
This is very small for a 12 MP image.
If you go back to the original file on your laptop, what is the file size?
Also the fact that the Mac OS is not showing the preview is unusual.
Perhaps these files got corrupted when they were moved to your new computer.
Can you open these files OK on your old laptop?
Is the OS showing the previews on your old laptop?
Also compare the file sizes between old and new computer.
Have you tried repairing your permissions?
Try Disk Utility in your Macs Applications - Utilities - Disk Utility to see if this helps.
Good Luck! -
Error Message - Unable to Load Needed Components
0Error Message - Unable to Load Needed Components] Creative Sound Blaster 24-Li've came installed on my Dell PC and I have had no problems for 2 years.
Now when I click on Speaker Settings, Surround Mixer, Graphic Equaliser etc... I get the message "Unable to Load needed components - please reinstall the application".
So obviously, I used the Creative CD that came with my Dell PC and reinstalled the application.
And guess what, nothing changed, and I suppose this should not surprise me by now, having been in this industry for 20 years.
So I went searching for the components that could not be loaded, and guess again - yes they are all on my PC but will not load.
They are files like Speaker Manager (SpkMgr.spc) and Mixer Manager (MxMgr.mxc) and so on.
So I attempt to load them directly, and - you guessed it - another message saying "Invalid Public Key Security Object File - This file is invalid for use as the following: PKCS #7". (which means nothing to anyone). What a load of old rubbish.
I was under the impression that I purchased this software with my Dell PC, I certainly got the disk with it and now I cannot reinstall because of some certificate revocation error that I am sure almost no-one in the world knows what this means or can help. So this is what the industry has come to.
There is no point in reinstalling from the disk - the same problem reoccurs.
There is no point uninstalling all creative software, and then reinstalling - the same problem occurs.
Dell do not want to know, because the support people I spoke to were living in Katmandu or Tibet or Mumbai or somewhere cheap and remote, and probably being paid 2 dollars a day juggling their support work for Dell with milking the Yaks and fighting off the Maoist rebels.
Is there a miracle out there, or at least someone with a clue.
Cheers

CR2 files from Canon Rebel XSi won't open in CS2
Ok, so I have a powerbook G4 with Tiger Mac OS X and CS2 student version. I am basically computer illiterate so feel free to state the obvious here.
I bought a new Canon Rebel XSi and have been shooting raw CR2 files. I have done this in the past with a Canon EOS 1D Mark II and never had a problem... now the error window pops up saying my file is unrecognizable. I did the only things I know how to do which was to check for updates and verify permissions in disc utility - this did not help.
Still thinking it was my computer or the software I backed everything up and wiped the hard drive clean by erasing and reinstalling the original discs and then reloading CS2 and again doing all of the updates - this did not help.
I have spent 3 days reading in these forums and trying to clear caches and download DNG's (by the directions into the right library) and still it does not work. I even downloaded trial versions of CS3 and CS4.
Now I'm sure my computer is a downloaded mess and I still have no access to my raw files!
Please Please Please help me!You're welcome, Nikki.

<br />>what do you do with the paper with a hard drive icon on it when you download something?
<br />
<br /> I assume you mean the
<i>disc image file</i> with a ".dmg" extension.
<br />
<br /> Personally I keep any such disc image file if its contents prove successful and discard it when a new version comes along that also proves to work OK. Otherwise, I delete them right away. It's your choice. I prefer to have the dmg file around in case I have to install its contents again for whatever reason without having to download it again.
<br />
<br /> That being said, I don't keep anything on my desktop,
<b>ever</b>. I download everything to a "Downloads" folder inside my Documents folder.
<br />
<br /> Here's what my desktop looks like all the time:

I have been trying to import images from my Canon Rebel digital camera and am having some issues. I was having trouble with iPhoto which is why I purchased this great program. At first, the images were downloading fast and furious with Aperture but now I am having some of the same issues that I was having with iPhoto. It is taking forever and a day to import my RAW images and now I am getting an error message with almost all of my photos. It stalls out on them (and the red light stops flashing on my camera as if they aren't communicating) and then I get the message that there was "a problem downloading that image" and this error code: (ICA download error -609).
This is extremely frustrating!! HELP!
iMac Mac OS X (10.4.6)
iMac Mac OS X (10.4.6)You're loading straight off the camera?
Be sure the camera isn't shutting itself off in the middle of the transfer. It may auto-turn-off after a minute.
I'd really suggest you use a card reader. You can get a USB2 CF reader which will be 10x faster than direct camera download for like $20. I can't fathom why anyone would use direct-from-camera in lieu of a reader, unless they were doing tethered shooting. -
Errors and slow performance copying lots of files between large hard drives
After upgrading to Snow Leopard, I have VERY slow file transfer speed with external eSATA drives. While trying to upgrade from a 1.5TB drive to a new 2TB drive, the copy took almost 24 hours and then failed on a large Fusion virtual OS file.
So I removed my eSATA card from my Mac Pro and connected the drives via FireWire 800. Same issue. I have the 10.6.1 update and reset the PRAM with no improvement.
Tried doing the copy with SuperDuper, and I have the same speed issue, but checking their log I see some of the files that Finder tried to copy, SuperDuper found another way to copy. Others it fails on. Here's a log of one of the files it could copy (but Finder couldn't):

There is indeed plenty of space left on the device... over 1.5TB in fact.
Not sure what is going on here. I have 4GB of RAM, and heard Snow Leopard needs twice as much as Leopard. Am I running out of RAM due to the large amount of files? Or is it some incompatibility with large drives and Snow Leopard? I did not have these problems with Leopard, and I was using these same drives.I, too, am experiencing extremely long copy times (17 hours on 5GB) when copying numerous (200+) files from an external HD via FW 400. The same happens when I try to copy files using FW 800.
Is there anything I can do to reduce the copying times?
