Follow the steps to troubleshoot security software. Often, uninstalling third-party security software will resolve these errors.
There may be third-party software that modifies your default packet size in Windows by inserting a TcpWindowSize entry into your registry. An incorrectly set default packet size can cause these errors. Contact the manufacturer of the software that installed the packet size modification for assistance or follow this article by Microsoft: How to reset Internet Protocol (TCP/IP).
Verify that access to ports 80 and 443 are allowed on your network.
Verify that communication to albert.apple.com or phobos.apple.com isn't blocked by a firewall or other Internet security setting.
Discard the .ipsw file, open iTunes and attempt to download the update again. See the steps under "Advanced steps > Rename, move, or delete the iOS software file (.ipsw)" below for file locations.
Restore your device while connected to a different network.
Restore using a different computer.

Not much you can do. Your phone is most likely permanently "bricked" Error 1015 occurs when trying to restore a previously jailbroken phone. This usually leaves the phone in a state where it can not be recovered as you are experiencing.
Discussion of jailbroken phones is prohibited by the Terms of Use of this forum. You'll have to get help elsewhere. Ask the lovely people who helped you jailbreak your phone.

• Error 14, eternal recovery mode

Hi. i got an iphone 4 with 4.1
i went to itunes and clicked RESTORE, after some bar progress itunes told me "this device isn't eligible for the requested build" then my phone resets and went to recovery mode. until TODAY. Everytime i try to restore now it tells me unknown error 14. Here is a list of what i´ve done with no succes:
DFU mode then shift click then selected stock ipsw 4.3.3 = error 14
Clean HOST file gs.apple.com = error 14
Change usb cable= error 14
Change usb port = error 14
Change computer (4 different computer, x2 mac x2 pcs) = error 14
Re download different ipsw = error 14
any help?

http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1275 says:
Error 13 and 14: These errors are typically resolved by performing one of more of the steps listed below:
Perform USB isolation troubleshooting, including a different USB port directly on the computer.
Put a USB 2.0 hub between the device and the computer.
Try a different USB 30-pin dock connector cable.
Eliminate third-party security software conflicts.
There may be third-party software installed that modifies your default packet size in Windows by inserting one or more TcpWindowSize entries into your Registry. If your default packet size is set incorrectly it can cause this error. Contact the manufacturer of the software that installed the packet size modification for assistance.
Connect your computer directly to your Internet source, bypassing any routers, hubs, or switches. You may need to restart your computer and modem to get online.
Try to restore from another known-good computer and network.
"this device isn't eligible for the requested build" means that the phone was jailbroken before the update, and as a result the update process could not determine the current build. You will need Google to find a solution, if there is one.

• IOS6 error, now in recovery mode! HELP PLEASE!

Somebody please help me! Earlier today, i think my phone started downloading the rest of iOS6 when i was in the range of wifi. I had previously downloaded around 50% of iOS6 before it was cancelled. Then today the rest of iOS6 must have downloaded and I had a pop up message on my iPhone 4S screen saying Verifying Update. Then the iPhone rebooted and came up with the logo with a white loading bar underneath it. This finished and then the iPhone turned off. I turned it on and then it said please connect to iTunes, i did so and it has told me it is in recovery mode and will not work with iTunes until i recover it. I have not made a backup for a long time and there is some very important information on my phone at the moment and it would really be upsetting to restore it. I have tried various softwares such as Tiny Umbrella and iReb and RedSnow, with all of these I can manage to get it into DFU mode and also to start up but it just goes on a loop of the turning on apple logo for about 1 minute and then it turns off and does it again.
SOMEBODY PLEASE HELP I WILL DO ANYTHING!
Nick

This took me over 24 hours to fix. I did it through redsnow, and extras, using the restore recovery loop tab. I cannot believe it actually worked. I phoned Apple support earlier today, spoke to two seperate technicians who were adamant that my phone had a hardware fault, they wanted in the region of £125 to fix/replace it, there was no way I would accept this.
My phone stopped working when it tried to update via itunes to iOS6. Then it got stuck in this recovery/restore loop and the technicians at apple almost convinced me it was a hardware fault. Then after lots of searching, I installed redsnow, and followed the instructions under 'extras' and its working. Currently downloading all my music back on to my phone as I type. I believe the update caused the problem in the first place, very very frustrating, especially when they were going to take money off me to 'fix' it. I am 103 days after my hardware warranty they said, I paid £600 for the phone, and the thought of being without it almost had me in tears!

• IPad error 1 in recovery mode.

I would like to find out if anyone has managed to get past the error 1 code in iTunes when trying to restore an iPad. My iPad 4 was caught in that infamous continuous reboot cycle, I manage to get it to restore in iTunes after downloading the newest ios 7 update through iTunes. When it reached the firmware update part it gave an error 1. After reading a lot pages and watching a lot of Youtube videos about this topic I tried Manually flashing the firmware in DFU mode but iTunes gave a message that the ipsw file I manually downloaded is corrupted. This is quite a tedious process with no clear solution. I phoned Apple support and I was informed that since my guarantee expired in March my device is a brick. I can not understand how so many people can have this issue but Apple has not made any attempt to address this. Apple devices are pretty expensive for it to just pack up after 13 months. My device was kept up to date with latest software updates and not jail broken.

Error 9 upon recovery mode in itunes

Tried recovery on two different Macs with clean security-two different cords-then took it to Apple Store and the same thing happened to the Genius. He offered me a replacement for $$$$$ which I do not have. I am assuming that the hardware is DOA.

Update Server
Try:
- Powering off and then back on your router.
- iTunes for Windows: iTunes cannot contact the iPhone, iPad, or iPod software update server
- Change the DNS to either Google's or Open DNS servers
Public DNS — Google Developers
OpenDNS IP Addresses
- For one user uninstalling/reinstalling iTunes resolved the problem
- Try on another computer/network
- Wait if it is an Apple problem

• TS3694 Just asked to update software on my sons ipod, did it, then it said the ipod is in recovery mode, error 3014. Restarted the PC.

Can anyone help, this product can be so annoying, just set my kids Ipod on another pC, obviously new software was downloaded. The message came up to update IPOD software, once done it said error, cannot update, Ipod in recovery mode. Error 3014, tried the apple support no luck.

So you tried all of this:
Errors 3000-3999 (3004, 3013, 3014, 3018, 3164, 3194, and so on): Error codes in the 3000 range generally mean that iTunes cannot contact the update server (gs.apple.com) on ports 80 or 443.
Update to the latest version of iTunes.
Verify the computer's date and time are accurate.
Check that your security or firewall software is not interfering with ports 80 or 443, or with the server gs.apple.com.
Follow Troubleshooting security software. Often, uninstalling third-party security software will resolve these errors.
An entry in your hosts file may be redirecting requests to gs.apple.com (see "Unable to contact the iOS software update server gs.apple.com" above).
Internet proxy settings can cause this issue. If you are using a proxy, try without using one.
Test restoring while connected to a known-good network.
http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3694#error3014
Then see if the previous discussions listed on the right side of this page under the heading More Like This help.
Last, make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store.

• Stuck on recovery mode, error 3194,

My 4g Ipod touch just went into recovery mode on its own while i was on itunes, and when i was restoring it there was an error that said "error 3194" I put it on DFU mode also and nothing happened so now my itunes can't recognize my Ipod and I'm just wondering is if there's a way to fix at home or will i have to go to a(n) Apple Store to get this problem fixed? and just how much it will cost?

Error 3000-3999: (3002, 3004, 3013, 3014, 3164, 3194, and so on) Error codes in the 3000 range generally mean that iTunes cannot contact the gs.apple.com server on ports 80 or 443. This may be because out-of-date or incorrectly configured security or firewall software is interfering, an entry in your hosts file redirecting requests to gs.apple.com, or due to your Internet proxy settings. If you are using a proxy, try without using one or with a known-good network.

• HT201263 my iphone 4 went into recovery mode & will not restore. Unknown error 21 comes up on iTunes. Please can someone offer any ideas for a solution?

I have an iphone 4 nearly 2 yrs old. It has worked perfectly for that time. On Friday last (whilst away on holiday) I took the phone out of my pocket & it was lifeless. I tried switching it on, no joy, I tried the power/home button reset no joy. I plugged it into a mains charger & it came on but had a banner across the screen saying "verification required". I removed the charger & decided I would try again when I got home so I could connect to my PC & iTunes.
At home I went through the whole above process again but when I plugged it into the mains again it just had the Apple logo going on/off repeatedly. I plugged the phone into my PC & the apple logo appeared followed by the "connect to iTunes". In iTunes I get the banner "iTunes has detected an iPhone in recovery mode. You must restore this iPhone before it can be used with iTunes". So I click on "OK" the "Restore" then a banner asking if I'm sure I want to restopre the iPhone appears, press "Restore & Update". iTunes starts to remove the software, veryfies it with Apple & then another flag "The iPhone could not be restored. An unknown error occurred (21) which appears to be a security issue.
I thought the above problem was something to do with O2 because I picked up my new iPhone 4S last Tuesday but was unable to set it up until I got back from my holiday, O2 say it isn't anything they've done.
My question is has it happened to anyone & can anybody offer a solution, is it a hardware or software issue?

• How do I get rid of error code 2001/2006? My phone is in recovery mode. I have tried several different cords, all USB ports, my macbook, and a friends PC. This is the second time my phone has done this, the first time it was an easy fix.

I have an iPhone 4. It is in great condition, always protected. A couple months ago, it randomly went black and wouldn't turn on. I put it in recovery mode, plugged it in to my MacBook Pro and would get error code 2001 then I'd get error code 2006. I read some different forums and many people said to try using a different USB port and different cords. The last cord I tried, worked and my phone was back. Last night, my phone did the same exact thing. So I used the same method I used last time, however nothing has worked. I tried plugging it in to a PC and that didn't work either. This seems like a hopeless problem that's going to continue to happen. Any advice?

Soooooooo.... You obviously need to restore the device
It seems that you have tried several options to restore it. What I would do is leave it plugged it and hold down the Home button AND the Power button together till you see the white apple appears. Then let go of the Power button but continue to hold the home button. You should get the message in iTunes again saying that the iPhone needs to be restored. Hit OK then RESTORE.
Hope this helps!!

• I am in mavericks disk utility recovery mode as my mac book will not boot up & stays only on the grey apple screen. When I verify the disk I get open error5 :input /output error on Syst stuck on 1 minute pouring out over 50 error messages & still counting

I am in Mavericks disk utility recovery mode as my mac book pro will not boot up & stays on the Apple grey screen . When I verify disk permissions I get
Open error 5:"input/ output error" on syst with over 50 of this messages & still counting . Disk Utility says 1 minute
But this has been going on for over 10 mins .
I can not verify disk or repair disk .
I have tried to reinstall mavericks operating system but it says my hard drive is locked which is very strange .
Does anyone know what is going on here ?
My system looks like it has been totally corrupted . Thanks Andrew

Could be. The "lock" isn't actually looking for a password.
WARNING: This will completely erase the ENTIRE hard drive.
What you would need to do is boot to recovery > disk utility > select the MAIN drive on the left side > partition > change partition layout from CURRENT to 1 PARTITION > ensure on the right side it says Format : Mac OSX Extended (Journaled) then push APPLY.
Then if it will allow us, close the windows until you see the 4 options popup again and select "Reinstall Mac OS X" select the Mac HD and you should be good to go!

• Can't get iPhone 4s out of recovery mode and always get error 40 during restore

I tried updating to ios 6.1.2 and I left it for a while since I had to do some stuff. When I came back, my iPhone is in recovery mode and I can't get it to restore using itunes. I always get error 40. I tried restoring on a different pc but it's still a no go. Is it possible that this has something to do with the hardware? I've already looked up possible solutions but my iphone's still in recovery mode. I never had this phone opened nor did I attempt to jailbreak it or anything. I tried asking my carrier for assistance but they're charging me for repairs. The fee's pretty expensive.
