Error 3194 while trying to update ios

I'm trying to update my ios from 4.1 to the newest one but each time i try to do it, I get an error message 3194, I tried to trouble shoot by turning off my virus protection as well as delete and reinstall itunes but nothing works which was suggested by the FAQ's from itunes. The last time this happened i got a replacement from apple because i was within my warenty period but now I don't have that luxury. Can someone please help me try and figure out how to resolve this problem??

Downgrading to a previous version of iOS is not supported. First you must uninstall the unauthorized modification software from the computer, then edit out the "gs.apple.com" redirect from the hosts file, and then restart the computer for the host file changes to take affect.  For steps to edit the Hosts file and allow iTunes to communicate with the update server, see iTunes: Troubleshooting iTunes Store on your computer, iPhone, iPad, or iPod—follow steps under the heading Blocked by configuration (Mac OS X / Windows) > Rebuild network information > The hosts file may also be blocking the iTunes Store. If you do not uninstall the unauthorized modification software prior to editing the hosts file, that software may automatically modify the hosts file again on restart. Also, using an older or modified .ipsw file can cause this issue. Try moving the current .ipsw file, or try restoring in a new user to ensure that iTunes downloads a new .ipsw."

If you get that error when using iTunes 10.5, it means you've hacked the phone to downgrade the iOS in the past.

  • 3GS is getting error 3194 while trying to update to ios4.3.3

I understand that it's to prevent downgrading the firmware, but I am not doing this. I am updating from ios4.0.1 and itunes gives me 3194 every time. I also have not jailbroken it nor do I want to. How can I fix this problem and just get the firmware update like Apple wants me to?

    Phil,
Same here, tried all the suggested steps in the 'more info' link but still gave the 3194.
A quick search of iPhone 4 discussions suggested these steps (thanks MacMan TommyC)
Do a HARD reset of the iPhone - holding the Lock/Power button and Home Buttons until the iPhone powers down and the Apple Logo reappears.
Make sure that your Mac (I'm assuming) has all recent security and iTunes updates completed; Safari, too, made a diff here as well.
Do a HARD reset on the computer as well.
Launch ITunes FIRST then connect the IPhone to the USB again.
Upon recognition, hopefully, ITunes will want to do the Update to iOS 5 for you, do its LOOOOONG back-up, and then install the update for you and then put everything back on.
Also added the following to the host file, not sure if it actually helped but it was came up quite frequent on a Google search
    #74.208.10.249 gs.apple.com
    Hope the above helps

Sundeep, I'm getting the same message.

A spotlight search for these two log files produces nothing.
I also followed your instructions here:
Double-click the Terminal application located at /Applications/Utilities/Terminal.
    Type cd /Users/userName.
    Type echo > .airinstall.log and/or echo > .airappinstall.log "
But terminal replies with "No such file or directory"

  • Stuck between "Recovery Mode" and "an error occurred while trying to update

My iPod touch is stuck in Recovery Mode (meaning it has become a $500 paper weight) and when I plug it into iTunes and try to restore and update it the message is something like "an error occurred while trying to update your iPod (14)". Everything was just fine until I downloaded software 2.2 and try to install it. I've tried disconnecting other USB devices and changing the USB port (as I read about this in other forums) but still no success. I've been trying since yesterday now, and I am beginning to get desperate. I'd appreciate any help. These updates seem to have become a "plug and pray" kind of thing...

if if makes you feel any better, i received my ipod touch and two hours later it did the same exact thing. i've followed everything on the apple website and nothing works. it does make a great paperweight though.

  • 80710092 error code while trying to update Minecraft

Hi, While trying to update Minecraft version 1.17, my ps3 keeps getting an error code or freezing on 0%, 80710092. I have checked all connections and tried all manner of fixes from the internet but nothing has worked. I have re-booted both the PS3 and the router, but the error keeps occuring. Could it be to do with the system maintenence yesterday, being 30-06-2015. My son has had this problem all day so I know it is not my connection. Any ideas on how to solve this issue? Thanks.

  • Gget error message while trying to update to Maverick on macbook pro

while trying to update to OSXMavericks on macbook pro I get an error has occurred message

    You're welcome.
I usually install app updates with iTunes on my computer followed by syncing my iPhone to install the downloaded updates on my iPhone. When syncing your iPhone with iTunes the first time after downloading app updates with your iPhone, the updates are transferred to your iTunes library on your computer. Less of a chance for a potential problem when doing so with iTunes on your computer.
