Error 3194 while trying to update my iPhone 4 to iOS5

tried to upgrade to iOS5 from my iTune 10.5, the error message pop up - The iPhone could not be restored. An unknown error occured (3194)

If you get that error when using iTunes 10.5, it means you've hacked the phone to downgrade the iOS in the past.
"This device is not eligible for the requested build: Also sometimes displayed as an "error 3194." If you receive this alert, update to the latest version of iTunes. Third-party security software or router security settings can also cause this issue. To resolve this, follow Troubleshooting security software issues.
Downgrading to a previous version of iOS is not supported. If you have installed software to performunauthorized modifications to your iOS device, that software may have redirected connections to the update server (gs.apple.com) within the Hosts file. First you must uninstall the unauthorized modification software from the computer, then edit out the "gs.apple.com" redirect from the hosts file, and then restart the computer for the host file changes to take affect.  For steps to edit the Hosts file and allow iTunes to communicate with the update server, see iTunes: Troubleshooting iTunes Store on your computer, iPhone, iPad, or iPod—follow steps under the heading Blocked by configuration (Mac OS X / Windows) > Rebuild network information > The hosts file may also be blocking the iTunes Store. If you do not uninstall the unauthorized modification software prior to editing the hosts file, that software may automatically modify the hosts file again on restart. Also, using an older or modified .ipsw file can cause this issue. Try moving the current .ipsw file, or try restoring in a new user to ensure that iTunes downloads a new .ipsw."

  • HT4623 Getting error message while trying to update my iPhone

Hi there, I am in the middle of updating my iPhone 5. I consistently received an error message saying " An error occurred downloading iOS 7.0.2.", what can be the possible cause of this error? I have tried to use both iTunes and direct updates in vain. What could be the problem?

  • 3GS is getting error 3194 while trying to update to ios4.3.3

I understand that it's to prevent downgrading the firmware, but I am not doing this. I am updating from ios4.0.1 and itunes gives me 3194 every time. I also have not jailbroken it nor do I want to. How can I fix this problem and just get the firmware update like Apple wants me to?

    Phil,
Same here, tried all the suggested steps in the 'more info' link but still gave the 3194.
A quick search of iPhone 4 discussions suggested these steps (thanks MacMan TommyC)
Do a HARD reset of the iPhone - holding the Lock/Power button and Home Buttons until the iPhone powers down and the Apple Logo reappears.
Make sure that your Mac (I'm assuming) has all recent security and iTunes updates completed; Safari, too, made a diff here as well.
Do a HARD reset on the computer as well.
Launch ITunes FIRST then connect the IPhone to the USB again.
Upon recognition, hopefully, ITunes will want to do the Update to iOS 5 for you, do its LOOOOONG back-up, and then install the update for you and then put everything back on.
Also added the following to the host file, not sure if it actually helped but it was came up quite frequent on a Google search
    #74.208.10.249 gs.apple.com
    Hope the above helps

  • TS3694 i have error 1 while trying to update my iPhone

I need help on how to restore my iphone back after attempted to update the phone. I got error 1

Error -1 indicates a catastrophic hardware failure.  Your phone is broken.  There's nothing you can do to fix it.  This often occurs when attempts at jailbreaking are made.
If your phone broke and no attempts at jailbreaking have ever been made, bring the phone into Apple for replacement.  The 4S is still under warranty and will be replaced free of charge.
If your phone broke because of attempted jailbreaking, you'll need to buy a brand new phone.  Apple won't touch the phone.

  • I am getting an error message that my network connection has timed out. while trying to update my iPhone on iTunes. Has anyone found a solution? I was given some advice about turning off my firewall and/or virus protection but am nervous about doing that.

I get a message that my network connection has timed out while trying to update my iPhone on iTunes. Has anyone else had that problem and if so what solutions have you found? I was told to turn off my firewall and/or virus protection while updating but am nervous about doing that for obvious reasons. I'm also disgusted with Apple not providing free tech support.

  • Error occured while trying to restore this iphone (-50)

I was trying to update my iphone 3G software to 4.2.1 (I was running 3. something before then) and I got a message that said "an error occured while trying to restore this iphone (-50)," and my phone has been wiped clean. This happened after updating my itunes to the latest update.  In itunes, I now have two options, Set up as a new iphone, or restore from "unkown." Not cool! Any suggestions?

This did not solve the issue for me. I am trying to update to 4.0.1
    My hosts file says
    # Copyright (c) 1993-2009 Microsoft Corp.
    # This is a sample HOSTS file used by Microsoft TCP/IP for Windows.
    # This file contains the mappings of IP addresses to host names. Each
    # entry should be kept on an individual line. The IP address should
    # be placed in the first column followed by the corresponding host name.
    # The IP address and the host name should be separated by at least one
    # space.
    # Additionally, comments (such as these) may be inserted on individual
    # lines or following the machine name denoted by a '#' symbol.
    # For example:
    # 102.54.94.97 rhino.acme.com # source server
    # 38.25.63.10 x.acme.com # x client host
    # localhost name resolution is handled within DNS itself.
    # 127.0.0.1 localhost
    # ::1 localhost
I also tried it with the second to last line completely removed, so it was
    # 127.0.0.1 localhost
    # ::1 localhost
    Any other thoughts?

  • Getting an error message while trying to update Adobe AIR.

I keep getting this error message while trying to update Adobe AIR:
    Sorry, an error has occurred.
This application cannot be installed because this installer has been mis-configured. Please contact the application author for assistance.
*Please help me resolve this issue.

Sundeep, I'm getting the same message.
    I'm on OS 10.5.8
I've downloaded the Adobe AIR Installer, but the installer always indicates that it will update Adobe AIR
    Installed: 1.5.2.8870
    Update: 1.5.3.9130
A spotlight search for these two log files produces nothing.
I also followed your instructions here:
Double-click the Terminal application located at /Applications/Utilities/Terminal.
    Type cd /Users/userName.
    Type echo > .airinstall.log and/or echo > .airappinstall.log "
But terminal replies with "No such file or directory"

  • Stuck between "Recovery Mode" and "an error occurred while trying to update

My iPod touch is stuck in Recovery Mode (meaning it has become a $500 paper weight) and when I plug it into iTunes and try to restore and update it the message is something like "an error occurred while trying to update your iPod (14)". Everything was just fine until I downloaded software 2.2 and try to install it. I've tried disconnecting other USB devices and changing the USB port (as I read about this in other forums) but still no success. I've been trying since yesterday now, and I am beginning to get desperate. I'd appreciate any help. These updates seem to have become a "plug and pray" kind of thing...

if if makes you feel any better, i received my ipod touch and two hours later it did the same exact thing. i've followed everything on the apple website and nothing works. it does make a great paperweight though.
