Error 3256 Music Store Connection?

I keep getting this error 3256 "make sure your network connection is active and try again" I am a new ipod shuffle owner and have tried re-installing and updating both itunes and quick time with no success. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I am having the same problem as Katrina. I turned off the XP firewall and was still unable to log on to the music store.

  • Error 502 Music store Problem

Two days now, trying to connect: There was an error in Music Store. Could not purchase "unknown". Please Try again later.
Any clues to fixing this ?
    Thanks,
    Kim

I'm having the same problems. It started a couple of days ago when I was unable to download songs from my shopping cart. When I pressed the 'Buy Now' button, I received a 502 error. iTunes did not download my music so I tried again...then again...and again. Still nothing! I was concerned but figured there was a temporary problem. Later, I checked my email and I was astonished to find several PayPal receipts for my purchases at the iTunes store!! What a mess! Apparently when I pressed the 'Buy Now' button I was actually purchasing the songs even though I was never able to download them! I contacted support and they kindly refunded everything (which totalled over $50) without an explanation as to what happened or what an error 502 was! Tonight I tried again (thinking it was just a fluke) and received the 'credit card orders cannot be processed now...' error. Not sure what's going on. I never had this problem before. I hope they correct this soon.

  • Yet another Music Store Connection Problem

First time iPod/iTunes user. Just Installed iTunes 5.0.1.4.
I Get The Error Message: iTunes could not connect to the music store. The network connection Timed Out.
I tried many of the suggestions that were posted to no avail.
Whatever iTunes is doing it seems to be pretty anti-social when it comes to network I/O. I noticed that when I operate iTunes, IE couldn't see any web sites. So I stopped iTunes, opened a command window and started the command "ping yahoo.com -t". It responded normally and uneventfully. But once I restarted iTunes, the ping results started timing out. I get the same result when I ping my router instead.
    Any Ideas ???

Well.... This has been a hot topic in these forums for a long time. I had this problem for at least 6 months without a resolution. The answers usually involve turning off a software firewall like the new Windows XP security center or Norton firewall. Believe me when I tell you I tried everything to fix this including turning off all firewalls. I eventually was able to find a copy of Itunes 4.7 and have been using that successfully (being able to connect to the music store).
I solved all my connection problems yesterday. I started up my disabled Zone Alarm Firewall program. I went to the allowed to pass through program list and clicked allow for all the programs that connect. Now every thing works great and I was able to install the latest Itunes for windows & connect to the store. The Zone alarm is running as well as the windows security center firewall. I think the Zone Alarm has opened up communication ports that the window security won't. I know many of you will think that I am an idiot. Maybe I am but I got the darn thing working. My belief is that this is not an Apple malfunction. I take back all my curses at them.

  • Can't connect to Music Store; connection refused

Since updating to the latest version of iTunes (I am using iTunes 6), I have been unable to connect to the Music Store. However, Apple's support page only covers cases where an "unknown error" prevents connection (and, I should note, nothing it suggested helped). I, rather, get the error message
"iTunes could not connect to the Music Store. The network connection was refused.
Make sure your network settings are correct and your network connection is active, then try again."
My network and internet connections are, otherwise, working fine; I know of nothing wrong with the settings. Now, I know, normally a "connection refused" error means you're trying to connect to the wrong port, but as I cannot find any option in iTunes to specify the host name or port number to connect to, presumably this is not the case. Note that this problem only began to occur after updating iTunes. I am baffled, and Apple's support page, as I said, was no help. (Windows Firewall is set not to block iTunes, and I have no other firewall installed.) Suggestions?
      Windows XP

The iTunes Music Store uses both HTTP Port 80 and 443. Make sure both are open in any firewall, and also make sure that the following domains are exempted in any firewall/filtering software:
    phobos.apple.com
    phobos.apple.com.edgesuite.net
You might want to completely shut down any firewall temporarily, just to see if that makes a difference. If you can then connect, you know it's a problem with your firewall.
Another possibility is an erroneous entry in the Hosts file. This tip from Mark Holly resolved problem for another poster (please note that I have not tried this fix so I cannot vouch for nor support the suggestion: I provide it only as a suggestion that worked for someone else):
NOTE: this will change a Windows operating system file. This could cause you problems if not done correctly.
Using Windows Explorer navigate to the following folder:
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc.
In this folder is file called 'hosts'. Open it using Wordpad.
On the poster's pc there was in this file one long line. At the end of this line was "127.0.0.1 phobos.apple.com:. phobos.apple.com is the web address for the music store. What "127.0.0.1 phobos.apple.com" is doing is telling the pc to look for the web address only on the computer rather than the internet. By remove this section of the line and saving the changes you may then be able to access the music store without any problems.
IMPORTANT: Before making the changes to the hosts file I highly recommend making a backup of it. That way you can restore the original if other problems occur.
    Hope this helps.

  • "Server not found error" in Music Store

I am getting a server error message when trying to download music from itunes. Is this a problem with my PC or a network issue?

On an iMac running iTunes 6.0.2 I am also getting error when I try to listen to purchased music. "We cold not complete your music store request. The server was ot found. There was an error in the Music Store" At this time I can't authorize or de-authorize this computer, although I can reach the Music Store and play the sample music there.
I hope this is just a temporary glitch. I tried downloading and re-installing 6.0.2 but that didn't help. There is a message about this error on the Apple support list, but it unhelpfully says to upgrade to 6.0.1 so It's behind the times.

I have no idea what I am doing wrong, but I have paid for 2 songs and 1 video that I am not able to enjoy.....HELP???

    Welcome to disucssions!
I typed 208 in Search Discussions (over on the right of your screen here)
It came up with several hits that had the answer in it.
    From Barbara Hall
.... Found this solution. Go to Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Apple Computer\ITunes\SCInfo. Delete this SCInfo folder. Make a copy of the folder if you are worried before deleting. Try to play your music again. Type in your info and hit authorize. Should fix your problem. It did for me 10 minutes ago.

  • Music Store Connects Early AM, Freezes Later w/ 100% CPU Usage

    Hi,
I connect to the internet using Hughesnet satellite (formerly Direcway). An important aspect of satellite, for any would-be troubleshooters of my problem, is that there is a time-lag from request to response of up to 1000ms (which is different than the <100ms response time of dsl or cable). Actual download speeds, however, are comparable.
Here's my problem. When I load iTunes and go to the Music Store, the main music store page loads fine. In the early AM (when I assume traffic on both the satellite AND Music Store is less), when I click on a "genre" (in this case, TVShows), it goes to the TV Shows page and I can buy another episode of "24".
But later in the day, after say 10 or 11AM EDT, when I click on a genre, it shows "Accessing Music Store" at the top and the horizontal 'barber shop pole' bar just turns and turns, without switching to the access progress bar. This can go on for quite a while (I've let it run for at least 15 minutes) and the only way to stop it is to end the iTunes process in Windows Task Manager. Also, if I go in to Windows Task Manager when iTunes is trying to access the Music Store, the iTunes CPU usage is a steady 99-100%.
I'm running iTunes 6.0.4.2, which is, I believe, the latest. I'm running AVG Antivirus and Kerio Personal Firewall, and have tried a couple of times with both of these off. Same result. I've also uninstalled and reinstalled iTunes.
    I found this thread: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=473475
which seems to discuss a similar problem (Ok connecting in morning, nothing later in day) that turned out to be related to a specific ISP in the UK.
In the case of Hughesnet (or any satellite), this may be a combination of iTunes/Music Store possibly needing some quick handshake as part of a security protocol, and a satellite connection getting a little too slow to execute the handshake as traffic picks up. I don't know, just a thought.
But I DON'T think its on my computer - firewall, anti-virus or spyware - since it will connect during real low traffic houses (e.g. 7AM).
Any suggestions anyone can make would be much appreciated.
    Thanks

I'm running LR with no speed issues on an Intel 17-860 quad core with about the same performance as your AMD Phenom II X6 1045T Processor. My system is also an HP, which originally had a single 1TB 7200 HDD. I've since added a second 2TB Black Caviar HDD, which provided no significant difference in LR's performance.
AMD processors do not implement hyper-threading and don't need it. I'd start debug by process of elimination:
    1) Disconnect all externally attached USB, FireWire, or other externally connected devices except keyboard, mouse, and your single 1280 x1024 display. This includes all externally attached memory card readers, phones, ipads, etc.
    2) Reboot and logon as Administrator.
    3) Remove your Internet connection and turn off all Antivirus and firewall programs.
    4) Open LR and under Catalog Settings set 'Standard Preview Size' to 1440 (slightly larger than your display width). Under the Metadata tab here make sure 'Automatically Write changes into XMP is NOT checked.
    4) Create a 'New Catalog,' Create a new folder and add about 10 raw image file copies to it for testing, and Import it into the new catalog. In the Import module make sure under File Handling 'Render Previews' has 1:1 selected. Wait until all Preview building has completed in the Library module.
Try editing these image files inside the new catalog as you were previously.

  • Getting rid of unwanted music store connectivity.

The new version of itunes (6.0.2)seems to have placed a "music store" frame at the bottom of my song list. I don't want it there. How can I remove it. This is just a bit too much arm twisting for me! The link in the left "source" column works just fine -- when and if i need it.

Hiding the mini-store window disables it. You can hide it by going to Edit > Hide MiniStore, by pressing Shift-Command-M, or by pressing the mini-store toggle button which is the 4th one in from the right at the bottom of the iTunes window. There is no way to remove the mini-store.

  • ITunes Error -3256 can't connect to remote speakers

iTunes is behaving erratically. I get a -3256 error when the app tries to connect to remote speakers via an AirPort Express.
Restarting iTunes allows me to connect. iTunes then works until my computer goes to sleep. When I wake the computer it hangs with the -3256 error again. Restart iTunes and it negotiates the network connection perfectly.
I ran AirTunes with no problem for years until version 8 of iTunes was released.
    I'm running iTunes 8.0.2

I'm having the same problem with my macbook pro (OS 10.5.6, iTunes 8.0.2) but NOT with my imac flatpanel 15". I get "An error occurred while connecting to the remote speaker "Stereo". An unknown error occurred (-3256)." Restarting iTunes does NOT work for me.
My airport is administered by the older imac flatpanel. My girlfriend's computer - an older macbook pro - does NOT have this problem. Has anyone gotten an answer yet on this?
Is this a known bug since so many of us seem to be seeing it?

  • Error - Could not complete the music store request, the store may be busy .

I get the error "Could not complete the music store request, the store may be busy, check your internet connection or try again later." I have uninstalled and reinstalled,Tried on and off with the firewall, tossed the prefs, tried older and latest versions. It used to work but it hasn't worked in the last few days.
      Windows XP Pro

I found the problem to the iTunes Music Store connectivity. When iTunes version 6 is installed, it places a configuration / preferences file in the following location:
    "C:\Documents and Settings\<user>\Application Data\Apple Computer\iTunes\iTunes.pref"
This file contains several very large keys:
    Preferences:129= (41,826 characters in length)
Music Store= (1,722 Characters in length)
Somewhere in these keys is stored are references to userid's, connections or other TCP/IP / internet connectivity objects that are being used when iTunes is installed. By deleting this file, these old setting appear to be cleared out.
In my case, one or more of the keys in this file appear to have been storing a property from my old dial-up ISP connection that was no longer valid for my new, Comcast cable modem connection.
Once I deleted this file, and re-started iTunes, it was as if I had never run the software before. I bypassed the option for searching for and importing .mp4's from My Music, and Itunes opened correctly, with full access to the music store. My library and playlists were intact and all is well.
Apple should re-write the protion of iTunes codes that stores anything pertaning to an internet connection that may change over time. Alternatively, iTunes should either A) Prompt for this information B) Enable user access to this parameter in a settings dialog C) Access this information dynamically at runtime.
