Error 3259 when tried to download iOS5
Hi,
keep on trying to download the update and do all the prompts about backing up stuff before the download etc
tried it last night didnt get very far and got error 3259...
tried it this morning and got to about half way and error 3259
just trying again now and it seems to be estimated time of 5 hours
now I know I have a crap internet speed but is that about right? is it the slow internet that is making it crash and making me have to start the ENTIRE download again?
what is error 3259 anyways? I havent had problems with previous downloading of software updates?
hope someone can help thanks
Hello all,
I had the same issue with attempting to update the iOS 5 software for the past week now and receiving the same failed update (with error message). The anti-virus program that I use is Kaspersky Pure. I googled and read all threads on how to fix this issue. Most people recommended doing a direct download, which I initiated, but that didn't work or uninstalling the anti-virus software, which I can't do because I don't have my installation cd. So, what I did was the following, I wasn't expecting for it to work but I guess anything would help at this point; however this technique worked perfectly and now I have the update ! Keep in mind I have Windows Vista.
1. I went to Windows Firewall with Advanced Security
A pop up window will display and you have to go to "Windows Firewall Properties"
Under (all 3 ) Domain Profile, Private Profile, and Public Profile set the "Firewall State" to off. Hit Apply then exit.
2. Next I went to Kaspersky Pure and did the following:
I opened the "Settings" for the antivirus program. I went to "Protection." This will open the "Network Ports" screen. I unchecked every port (I mean every single port). Under the same tab I also unchecked "Monitor all ports for specified applications."
Still working under the "Protection" tab under each sub tab I unchecked everything that was checked
Finally I restarted my computer with the Iphone connected
3. Voila! The update worked.
Hope this helps you guys.

I get an error -3259 when trying to download an app. (And ONLY certain apps!)
Ok, this is really weird. At first I thought it was my firewall, because I just installed it, and now iTunes wasn't downloadinf anything. But i've come to realise that there is nothing wrong with my firewall, or router...it's iTunes! You see, I didn't think anything was downloading because the downloads were taking so long to actually start downloading. But it appears some apps download, while others don't. And I still can't explain why it takes so long for the download to actually start. My internet is at it's normal speed as always, the firewall isn't blocking iTunes at all, and it's the latest version. Plus, no everytime I start up, it asks me to enter my Apple ID and password. I'm thinking something has gone screwy with iTunes, because I've been over every thing that could have changed on my computer, and troubleshooted it. But as Sherlock Holmes said "When you have eliminated the impossible, whatever remains, however improbable, must be the truth."

I am getting the following error message when trying to download iCloud to my Vista PC. "Cannot download iCloudSetup.ext from supportdownload.apple.com. The connection with the server was reset.
I would suggest you to run the fix it tool from the link mentioned below and then check if you can install the softwares.
http://support.microsoft.com/mats/Program_Install_and_Uninstall (applicable only for 64 bit operating system)
Also follow these steps before you proceed with the installation of ITunes.

Also, make sure that you have iTunes installer installed on your computer or else download and install it.
Uninstall all iTunes software from Program and features.
a) Click Start button, click Control Panel, click Programs, and then click Programs and Features.
b) Select the program, and then click Uninstall.
c) Uninstall or change a program

These ones are typically caused by underlying problems on the PC that also often cause Windows Updates to fail to install. If we can fix the Windows Update trouble, we can usually get the iTunes trouble cleaned up en passant.
Go into your Windows update and try to check for new updates. If updates install, stock up on the ones you're behind on, restarting the PC if requested to do so. After the restart, try installing iTunes again. Does it go through this time for you?
If windows updates fail to install, go into your Update History and doubleclick the failures. What alphanumeric codes appear for you? (For example, 8007000B.) -
I get the following error message when trying to download ITunes on my computer running Windows XP - Error writing to file: C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple Application Support\CFNetwork.dll
For general advice see Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.
The steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes and then rebuilding it which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach. Review the other boxes and the list of support documents further down the page in case one of them applies.
The further information area has direct links to the current and recent builds in case you have problems downloading, need to revert to an older version or want to try the iTunes for Windows (64-bit - for older video cards) release as a workaround for installation or performance issues, or compatibility with QuickTime or third party software.
Your library should be unaffected by these steps but there also links to backup and recovery advice should it be needed.

I keep getting an error message when trying to download itunes. It says it can't find "msvcr80.dll, but when I search for it on my computer it is there. My itunes was working just fine before I got the message to download the latest upgrade. I've not had any problems doing that before now, so don't really know what to do.
Go to Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs (Win XP) or Programs and Features (later)
Remove all of these items in the following order:
iTunes
Apple Software Update
Apple Mobile Device Support (if this won't uninstall move on to the next item)
Bonjour
Apple Application Support
Reboot, download iTunes, then reinstall, either using an account with administrative rights, or right-clicking the downloaded installer and selecting Run as Administrator.
The uninstall and reinstall process will preserve your iTunes library and settings, but ideally you would back up the library and your other important personal documents and data on a regular basis. See this user tip for a suggested technique.
Please note:
Some users may need to follow all the steps in whichever of the following support documents applies to their system. These include some additional manual file and folder deletions not mentioned above.
