Error -36 while trying to move files on SMB mounted NAS

Hey,
I have been experiencing an error -36 while trying to move files around on my NAS.
I have the feeling it has something to do with insufficient privileges that are being acquired.
When mounting in windows explorer no problems arise.
When using the mac mounted disk in Parallels same problem.
Mounting disk in mac as following:
smb://login:password@ip-address/NAS-mount
or
smb://ip-address/NAS-mount (after which login details are prompted)
Any help or suggestions are welcome,
Jan

Hey,
I tried CIFS but that is giving me the same error -36.
I think it must have something to do with finder permissions as windows explorer is handeling it just fine.
Any more suggestions?
Tried:
cifs://login:password@ipaddress/share
cifs://ipaddress/share

    Hi rps,
Your interaction-spec className seems to be incorrect (FileReadInteractionSpec).
        <interaction-spec className="oracle.tip.adapter.file.outbound.FileIoInteractionSpec">

  • I got the Mac error code -36 while trying to move a backup file

I got the Mac error code -36 while trying to move a backup file (made by Time Machine) to another drive.  The full text of the error message is:
The Finder can’t complete the operation because some data in “boot.efi” can’t be read or written. (Error code -36)

It's a disk error. Although Apple documentation says you should be able to copy Time Machine backups in the FInder, that doesn't necessarily mean it will work. I suggest that, instead of copying the existing backup, you start a new one on the other drive, and keep the old one. You need more than one backup anyway.

  • Error message while trying to play rented moves on Apple TV

I keep getting an error message while trying to play my rented movies. I have rebooted the Apple TV. Lowered the resolution. Restated my modem . Rest my Apple TV. Soft rebooted it and it plays all Netflix and previews in HD no problem just not the movies I have rented !! Extremely frustrated regretting my purchase extremely!! About ready to boycott!

I have been able to open a few items in iTunes, but have not been able to play even those videos from my Apple TV. I can airplay them from the computer, but cannot access them directly from Apple TV. This is a bit frustrating.

  • I am using Adobe Reader with paid up service through May 2015.  When I attempt to convert a file from PDF or to PDF, I get the message "An error occured while trying to access the service.  What do I need to do to access the service paid for?

I am using Adobe Reader with paid up service through May 2015.  When I attempt to convert a file either to PDF or from PDF, I get the error message, "An error occurred while trying to access the service".  What do I need to do to get access to the service I have paid for?

    Hi DeaconTomColorado,
Please see "Error occurred when trying to access this service" when logging on to Acrobat.com.
Adobe has just released an update to Adobe Reader, so if you're accessing the service via Reader, please let us know whether the update helps resolve the issue.
    Best,

Adobe Reader is free; but you may have paid for the ExportPDF service.

    Hi bert090909,
Are you trying to convert your files from within Adobe Reader? If so, please make sure that you have the most current version by choosing Help > Check for Updates. Earlier versions of Reader could cause the specific error that you're reporting.
Please let us know how it goes.
    Best,

  • Receive error message "An error occurred while trying to access the service" when I try to convert a file?

When I attempt to convert a file, either to PDF or from PDF I receive the error message "An error occurred while trying to access the service" what can I do to resolve?  I already applied updates and attempted to fix?

You could always sign into Acrobat.com directly and use the service through the web site if it's a critical need.

  • I purchased the Adobe PDF Pack but it won't allow me to convert any files to pdf or combine multiple files to into 1 pdf form. It keeps saying "Error occurred while trying to access the file". WHY

I purchased the Adobe PDF Pack for $7.50/month (or $89.99/yr) but it won't allow me to convert any files to pdf or combine multiple files into 1 pdf form. It keeps saying "An error occurred while trying to access the service". WHY is this happening & How can I fix it?

    Hi hpmg,
It seems you are trying to access the service via Adobe Reader. Make sure you are signed in with your Adobe ID. Is Reader updated to the latest patch v 11.0.09?
It might be possible that a firewall or antivirus might be breaking the connectivity from Reader to the server.
Try accessing the service from the browser: https://cloud.acrobat.com/exportpdf  and check if that works for you.

  • An error occured while trying to copy the needed DB driver jar files

When I try to run my web app, I see this error in the Output window.
Creator will also put up a window essentially saying that I don't have a particular
data source. But I do have that very data source there.
The error seems to be pointing to this line in my build-impl.xml file

I keep getting this error code while trying to import a cd to my itunes: "Error occurred while converting the file. The disc you are attempting to use is full. removing files and emptying the recycle bin will free up additional space."  What does this mean?

Well it probably means exactly what it says... How much free space is there on your hard drive where the iTunes Media folder resides? I believe there is also an obscure bug that can occur when software doesn't read the true value of the free space properly, and the workaround is, perversely, to duplicate some content so that with less actual free space the software in question perceives it as more. I've no idea if iTunes is affected by such a bug.

Bummer. I'm not really doing this for speed though, just for total storage volume and constant, worry-free, no-brainer back-up. I guess RIAD in general is something I need to study up on. Would a simple mirror of one 500GB drive to another (back-up) - and do that twice - be a better, more reliable way to go?
I've used Tri-Backup3/4 for years for Backups, it's fast, automatic, reliable, works in the background if you wish...
Back-up software always seemed to have some kind of a hiccup to it, but I'll certainly look into Tri-Backup3/4. I used to Retrospect years ago, a rather fussy thing if I recall.
Now, on the Safe Mode boot - not a success BUT a different result!
I got the -36 again, but this time it was the external drive FILE that errored, not the OS-resident drive.
In other words, pre-Safe Mode the error said "...because some data in "ZillaHAL" could not be read or written." (ZillaHAL is my OS-X drive).
In Safe, it read, "...because some data in "WinXP Pro.vmem" could not be read or written."
"WinXP Pro.vmem" is the virtual machine file - which basically is a simple Mac volume (folder) containing all of the files to run my XP virtual machine.
Also, this time, a file* did manage to remain on the external drive whereas before, after the error, no file at all remained.
    * a generic icon appears, but it shows a size of 16+GBs. The actual file is 18.13GB - I did manage to shrink it down the other day (from it's previous 25GB).
Well, that's it for now. I'll be away for three days, so don't mind me if I cannot reply back for a spell.
    Thanks BD,

  • Permissions issue: An error occurred while trying to save your photo librar

I recently upgraded from a Mac mini running OS X 10.4.10 (iPhoto 08) to an iMac Core2Duo (2.4ghz) running Leopard (and also iPhoto 08).
My iPhoto library resided on an external Firewire drive when running on the Mac mini, but now that the iMac has such a large hard disk (750gb), I wanted to move my library there. I copied the library over to the Pictures folder in my user folder on the iMac and started up iPhoto, and everything seemed fine.
When iPhoto is running for any length of time, I get the following error:
*An error occurred while trying to save your photo library.*
*Some recent changes may be lost. Make sure your hard disk has enough space and that iPhoto is able to access the iPhoto Library.*
(I have over 300gb available on the disk and my library folder is approximately 40gb.)
I've repaired the permissions on the library using iPhoto's built-in mechanism (command-option while booting iPhoto) and Disk Utility. Additionally, I've used BatchMod to give my user and group full read/write/delete permissions (as posted elsewhere in the forums), but I still get the error.
Searching the forums yields other users w/ the same issues. What's the scoop? TIA!

    Sean:
I just had the very same problem when I was messing with permissions and reset my unknown group to staff. I lost all write permissions in my nome folder. Here's how you can reset it for your pictures folder:
In the Terminal type in "sudo chmod -R -N " (there's a space after the N) and drag the Pictures folder into the Terminal window. Then hit the enter key. It should chug along for a couple of seconds and return a new prompt. Give iPhoto another try after that.
I had to do that for my entire home folder and it fixed the problem.
    Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
