Error 4000 when burning to CD also computer freezes

Hope someone can help. Was unable to burn to CD after installing Version 6 of iTunes "Unknown error 4500". Hoped upgrading to this latest version 7 would resolve it. I'm able to burn to CD using RealPlayer.
Here's the diagnostics. PS I'm not too good with computer jargon :¬)

okay. i was looking for a drivers download page for your particular model at ShuttleX (to see, for example, if there was new firmware available for your drives).
but the area in the iTunes diagnostics that usually shows up model information:
VIA Technologies, Inc. FX43
... wasn't saying which model of ShuttleX you had. (that looks more like info about your make of motherboard.)
i got this far at the ShuttleX support site looking for info on what you had:
http://us.shuttle.com/support.html
... so i figured, i'd better try to work out whether you had what they were calling a complete system or an XPC barebone.

  • Error 4000 when burning

I have read through the message board and made sure that when i am burning a playlist i have done the following. Checked preferences that i am using the music CD, using a CDR disc, put the writing speed to 14x, CD burner is new and doesn't need updating and i also turned off my firewall. Even with all that I get the error "the attempt to burn a disc failed. An unknown error occured (4000)" I am currently using 6.0 and i can't put my playlist on a cd to play in my car. I am very frustrated. Please help.

Here is the information you requested. PS: i also had my cousin burn music from Itunes on his new computer. He also downloaded 6.0 and ran into the exact same problem.

Found this fix here which worked for me with a similar problem.
    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3196594?start=0&tstart=0
With Windows Explorer, navigate to your C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Apple Application Support folder.
Copy the SQLite3.dll that you should find there, navigate to the nearby Mobile Device Support folder, and Paste it in there also.
Reboot and see if all is well.

  • Unknown Error # 4000 when i try to burn cds

When I insert a blank cd it acts like its copying, and says writing...(the name of the song). Then after about 30 seconds it says canceling disk burn and it comes up that an unknown error # 4000 occured. I've been able to burn cds for along time up until a couple of months ago. Can anyone help me?

I am having the same problem, and it is really freaking me out because over 95% of my music is saved in my iTunes Library, and all my original discs have been resold on Ebay. As you all know...once you save them in iTunes, there is no way to access the music file in the Microsoft Mediaplayer. I have tried purchasing different blank discs only to have to discard them after the attempt. Is there any way to fix this problem. Can I opt to go back to an old version of itunes? It looks like this problem has been going on for quite a few months now. How do we get Apple to address this problem. I need to have access to MY music that I purchased. This is insane!!!

  • Unknown error "4000" when trying to burn  a cd?!

I've noticed that there are a lot of similar complaints in this forum but I still want to add mine here too...
I just recently downloaded my first album from iTunes and tried to burn it on a cd, but the program refused to do anything other than popping out the message " The effort to burn the cd failed unknown error 4000".
I updated the firmware nut still nothing. What's up with this?

    hi Ilkka!
no particularly focussed advice I'm afraid. but there's still a few other things apart from the CD-drive firmware mentioned here that are worth checking up on:

... and if no joy with those, head here to check for other documentation and to submit your CD diagnostics to Apple:

  • Error message when burning Home Folder backup disk

I got this error message when trying to burn a backup disk (cd-rw) of my Home Folder. Could somebody please help me figure out what this means? -

There are a bunch of folders within your home folder, you may want to decide what exactly you want to back up or not.
Besides your personal folders (Desktop, Documents, Movies, Music, Pictures), you may want to decide whether you need to back up the library folder. The library folder generally contains preferences for most of your applications, and also caches and applications support files. These can become really big in some cases (Mine is more than 8GB, will not fit on a dual layer DVD). And the Library>Caches folder contains temporary files that will change from time to time, this might be the cause of your previous error since the shortcut is no longer valid.
Once you chose your files and make sure they will fit on your blank CD/DVD, you can just do what you did before, drag the folders to a Burn folder, make sure you are not running any other apps, so they won't be modifying the files.
There are programs you can use to backup to CD/DVD, Disc burner like Toast will span across several discs if the data does not fit on one. For a more automated solution, Carbon Copy Cloner (http://www.bombich.com/software/ccc.html) can backup to disc images which you can then burn to discs. I personally don't know a lot backup programs that provide good support for CD/DVDs, so I'll leave this to other folks.
If you are going to backup regularly, I would recommend spending some money on an external drive. You can find quite a few free software for automated backup and saves money and time on burning CD/DVDs. Plus you have the advantage of being able to boot from the external drive should anything bad happened to your internal one.

  • Error message when burning a disc of photos

I was trying to burn a disc of a large number of photos - around 400, and I got this error message:  "The burn to the HL-DT-ST DVDRW GS23N drive failed. The disc drive didn’t respond properly and can’t recover or retry."  I did a sample burn of about 5 or 6 photos and it worked fine, but this large project failed.  I have a total of 1200 pictures I'm trying to burn.  Any advice?  Thanks for your help.  I have spent hours trying to get this project done.  It looks like it is in the "preparing to burn" stage for 10 or so minutes, then when it gets ready to burn, I get the failure message.  Thanks again!

    Take your choice:
    Bad discs
Dust bunnies in drive blocking laser
    Drive failing
    Crashed/corrupt firmware controlling drive
    Crashed system component
Try different brand of discs and/or slower burn speed
You don't say anything about your model computer.  With some you can reset software.  Of course sometimes restarting a computer can help.
Intel-based Macs: Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC) - http://support.apple.com/kb/ht3964 Apple Portables: Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC) - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1411 Apple Computers: Troubleshooting the slot-loading SuperDrive - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2801
Failing all those it is not uncommon for optical drives to need replacing every 5 years or so.

  • I get a weird error message when I boot up the computer

Every once in a while when I boot up my computer it gives me an error message that says:
"Your computer’s clock is set to a date before March 24th 2001. This may cause some applications to behave erratically."
But my clock is not set to an old date/time. And when I go into the date/time settings to check, they are always set correctly. Why am I getting this message??

it could be logic board problem (just a guess at this point and not a conclusion), unless some software setting changes date/time as was suggested.
logic board is the main electronic board inside, containing processor, video chip etc., it also includes the chip controlling real time and date.
it is possible that the time chip is failing for some reason and it can't be replaced on it's own - the whole board may need to be replaced.
if the iBook is out of warranty it will be to expensive and probably not worthwhile just for the clock problem.
if it's in warranty (1 year from purchase date or 3 years with AppleCare warranty) any authorized service provider will get it fixed:
    http://www.apple.com/buy/locator/service.html
you can look up the warranty here by entering serial number for the iBook where it says "About Your Support Coverage":
    http://www.apple.com/support/
also someone may have other suggestions on software causes.

  • Help! Mac OS X error -39 when burning DVD in toast 8; -36 in Toast 7

iMac just over 1 year old - core duo on 10.4.9. Recently, I've been doing a lot more video work using the super drive. When burning recordings from Eye TV 2.3.3 to Toast 8 using LG DVD-R 1-8x blanks, I had two writes to fail and on the third try I got an error -39 (end of file.) I've not had any problems with these disks writing at 2x speed. I tried a GQ 16x DVD-R, which I had been using, and the write completed, but when playing back with DVD player the disc hung and I got a -36 error stating that disc may be dirty or scratched. My discs are fine. Also, I tried a write to an LG disc using Toast 7 and got a can't write error -36. Is the drive dirty, dusty or failing? The DVD writer is the internal drive that comes with the iMac not an external drive - Thanks for suggestions and help.
If the drive is dirty, how do you clean it without opening the case? Can you put the straw on the air duster through the slot and give it a spray safely? Seems like that would work but probably not recommended by tech support.

Those errors are Mac OS X errors.
    -36 ioErr I/O error (bummers)
-39 eofErr End of file; no additional data in the format
I suspect a defective drive. I've tried three different kinds of DVD blanks including a Sony DVD-R and same problems with all. Time to back up my files and take it in.
BTW - here's a list of all the Mac OS X error codes for those who might want or need them.
