Error -42408 after downgrade n iphone content unreadable

Hi,
I recently deleted the new itunes 11 from the apps folder, downloaded and installed the old itunes 10.7 in it's place instead. But everytime I start itunes, I get the error -42408 and itunes keep telling me it cannot read the content of my iphone and I have to restore it. This never happened prior to the upgrade to version 11 so I am thinking it's a problem with the downgrade?
Is there something I am to delete or??
Thank You.

What you need to do depends upon how you did the downgrade.
=Downgrading from iTunes 11 to iTunes 10.7=
You may be able to go back with Time Machine but this may involve restoring other items too (https://discussions.apple.com/message/20441404).  Alternatively:
Back up your computer first, in case the unexpected happens.
Quit iTunes.
Get iTunes 10.7 from http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1576 or the direct download link at:  http://appldnld.apple.com/iTunes10/041-7195.20120912.d3uzQ/iTunes10.7.dmg
Do a few preparatory steps by making sure all iTunes components are not running and cleaning old files.   See https://discussions.apple.com/message/20475394.  Do steps 3 and 4.  Steps 6-8 may be also useful but I don't know if they are essential.  Some of the other steps are not necessary, duplicate steps listed later in my post or are perhaps even unhelpful in the process.
Replace the iTunes 11 application with iTunes 10.7.  Simply dragging the application to the trash may not work. Lion (OSX 10.7) and newer systems have iTunes integrated into the operating system and deleting is a bit more involved.  Two ways to do this are:
1.  Use the shareware Pacifist utility (http://www.charlessoft.com/) to install iTunes 10.7 including all associated system files. Details at http://forums.macrumors.com/showpost.php?p=16400819&postcount=6
2. Check this reference on how to delete the iTunes application itself:
Delete iTunes in Mac OS X 10.7 Lion - http://osxdaily.com/2011/09/13/delete-itunes-in-mac-os-x-10-7-lion/
After deleting the application there may be other files that need downgrading too. See the note about error -42408 at the end of this post. You may want to tuck these away somewhere safe until you have completed the installation of iTunes 10.7.  I have not tested this but ideally if newer versions are not found then the installer will put in the old versions. This may include these files in /System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/ which apparently get updated by iTunes 11:
AirTrafficHost.framework
CoreFP.framework
DeviceLink.framework
iTunesAccess.framework
MobileDevice.framework
After doing one of the two procedures above you will have to rescue the most recent old iTunes library from your iTunes > Previous Libraries folder. Rename it "iTunes Library.itl"  and replace the existing one in the iTunes folder. A newer version of iTunes irreversibly updates your library file so you have to replace it with the old one or you will get an error message. Note, this will revert your library to the version at the time of the upgrade and you will have to update any changes made since.  See:

Alternatively, check https://discussions.apple.com/message/20441424 which requires you have a Time Machine backup (though possibly if you remove the newer version of these files old ones may be installed with the iTunes 10.7 installer - untested).  A  variant of this is at: https://discussions.apple.com/message/20448184

  • ITunes Error 42408 After 9.03 Upgrade

I am receiving the error 42408 after upgrading to 9.03. Google did not yield any results. The error appears attempting to authorize my Powerbook.

I had the same problem. Check the version of iTunes via the About dialog. Mine said 9.0.2 despite having upgraded via system updates, itunes and even downloading the whole package again.
Turns out, the dock iTunes link is running the old one. Basically, remove it from the dock, and re-drag the itunes from the applications folder back onto the dock. This then started 9.0.3 for me, and my iTunes account worked, the itunes store worked and iphone sync worked as well. Phew.

    Hello, Julie.
Thank you for the question.  As the device is registered to the Apple ID, you would simply need to make sure the name is correct on https://appleid.apple.com/.  If the name of the device itself is incorrect and you wish to change it, see the article below.

  • Error 42408 after upgrading itunes

I just followed the prompt to upgrade my itunes to the latest version. After the installation I am getting a popup that says "This computer is no longer authorized to play purchased items that are on the ipod [my name]. Would you like to authorize this copmuter for items purchased from the iTunes store? If you do no authorize this computer, 224 items . .. will be removed from the iPod." Then when I click "Authorize," and put in my password, I get the following error message: "We could not complete your itunes store request. An unknown error occurred. (-42408)" In smaller letters it then says: There was an error in the itunes store. Please try again later." When I clear that screen I am back to the popup screen. So far I have not detected that anything has been removed from my iPod, but I have not tried clicking "Cancel" or "Don't Authorize" on the popup screen. So the popup screen is just staying there, asking me if I want to authorize this computer. How to clear this problem? It almost makes me want to ignore future requests to upgrade iTunes...

sorry.. posted to wrong place .. I'll repost

  • My Win7 64 bit got following error message after plug in iPhone: This iPhone cannot be used because the required software is not installed!  It advised me to reinstall 64-bit version of iTunes ( but it is already 64 bit!)

I just upgraded the iTunes 10.6.1 for Windows (64-bit) yesterday!

Let's try a standalone Apple Mobile Device Support install. It still might not install, but fingers crossed any error messages will give us a better idea of the underlying cause of why it's not installing under normal conditions.
Download and save a copy of the iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64setup.exe) installer file to your hard drive:
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
Download and install the free trial version of WinRAR:
    http://www.rarlab.com/
Right-click the iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64setup.exe), and select "Extract to iTunesSetup" (or "Extract to iTunes64Setup"). WinRAR will expand the contents of the file into a folder called "iTunesSetup" (or "iTunes64Setup").
Go into the folder and doubleclick the AppleMobileDeviceSupport.msi (or AppleMobileDeviceSupport64.msi) to do a standalone AMDS install.
(If it offers you the choice to remove or repair, choose "Remove", and if the uninstall goes through successfully, see if you can reinstall by doubleclicking the AppleMobileDeviceSupport.msi again.)
Does it install (or uninstall and then reinstall) properly for you? If so, can you get a normal iTunes install to go through properly now?
If instead you get an error message during the install (or uninstall), let us know what it says. (Precise text, please.)

  • HT1414 what is error (-42408) im trying to sync my replacement iphone 4 bu the music and apps from my computer wont go on the phone

i just got my iphone 4 replaced and had backed up my previous phone onto itunes on my computer. When i plugged in the new iphone the apps and music are not syncing, but my contacts and pictures are all back, any suggestions??

    "Error 42023" through "Error 42408"
These alerts might occur when trying to authorize iTunes or during launch when iTunes checks for authorization information.
Install the latest iTunes from apple.com/itunes/download/
    Remove the SC Info folder.
If that does not resolve the issue, see iTunes: "Error 42408" or "Error 42404" after upgrading to iTunes 9.0.3.

  • Help! My IPhone 4 (GSM) No Power,No Restore, after downgrade 6.1.3 complete bricked.

Everybody knows to revive a IPhone 4? All the methods i see on the youtube. Not Working! I hold HOME BUTTON+POWER then i hold the Volume up to boot a safe mode.. Is not working! I charged my phone over 3days then i power it not working again! Any Solution of my IPhone? Completely bricked black screen after downgrade to 7.1 to 6.1.3? Any Suggestions? Thanks.. Sorry for my bad ENGLISH..

    USB Problem, possibly bad Cable.
I misread your original post "It keeps rebooting at every 10 min or so when It was plugged into my laptop".
I thought you had a boot loop problem, but you say "rebooting when plugged into laptop" this is not the typical boot loop problem, because you had the iPhone connected to laptop.
Connected by what, obvioulsy a USB Cable, Error 2006, is most often due to faulty USB Cable.
Clean that Dock Port Very Well especially with Isopropyll Alcohol, get a good USB Cable, try a different USB port on computer, or try a different computer.

    Hi Christianjr,
When you say you reset your network settings, what do you mean, exactly?
I saw another post on this issue, and the poster indicated that they resolved the problem by turning off their cellular date option and wifi options in Settings, and then turned them back on.
Also, resetting your phone may help - press the Home and Power buttons at the same time and continue to hold both down until the Silver Apple appears. Once it is back up, click on the update option and see if it fixes the problem.
If none of those things work, then need to have details on what you did to reset your network settings....

You generally get that error code on a jailbroken phone ?
If it is Jailbroken then I am afraid you will get no help here.
