Error 4251 when trying to burn

I've had iTunes for years but just bought and downloaded an album, when I tried to burn I got error 4251. I tried burning three times but got the same error, any idea how to fix this?

"I've had iTunes for years but just bought and downloaded an album, when I tried to burn I got error 4251. I tried burning three times but got the same error, any idea how to fix this?"
I've seen multiple threads on this same error message. Since I'm very new to iTunes, I thought it was me or my PC, so I guess I'm relieved in a way to learn that this problem is being experienced even by long-time iTunes users.
To me, this says that something in a recent release of iTunes is the culprit. What I don't know is if Apple will consider a problem that Windows users are having to be serious enough to investigate and fix.
I actually thought I had a work-around. I went to edit/preferences/advanced/burning and changed to speed from the highest speed to 16X, and I managed to get 10 songs on a disc before it went 4251. I took the speed down to 6X, and got 12 songs. I went to 2X, and it went 4251 after 5 songs.
So much for that work-around.

I updated my itunes this morning, and now I keep getting an error message when trying to burn a disc. Any ideas how to resolve this?

Go to Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs (Win XP) or Programs and Features (later)
Remove all of these items in the following order:
    iTunes
    Apple Software Update
Apple Mobile Device Support (if this won't uninstall move on to the next item)
    Bonjour
    Apple Application Support
Reboot, download iTunes, then reinstall, either using an account with administrative rights, or right-clicking the downloaded installer and selecting Run as Administrator.
The uninstall and reinstall process will preserve your iTunes library and settings, but ideally you would back up the library and your other important personal documents and data on a regular basis. See this user tip for a suggested technique.
    Please note:
Some users may need to follow all the steps in whichever of the following support documents applies to their system. These include some additional manual file and folder deletions not mentioned above.

  • Error 0x80020022 when trying to burn a CD.

What is this Error 0x80020022 when trying to burn a CD.

I had that error too. Many times!
I tried a lot of different CDs.
And for two times I got new superdrives (warranty).
I thought it's over now, but today it came back... :-(
So, it's definitely NOT a broken superdrive.
But while reading all the posts with the same problem I began thinking about the lens.
Maybe it's not the scratches or printings or quality of the CDs.
Maybe it's the grease spots from the fingers???
So I rubbed it clean, only touching on the very outside and tried again. It worked!
I just wanted to share this.
    Could it be so easy?

It's an error message returned by the burner. You can see the full list of these error messages here
    <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Key_Code_Qualifier>
It's not specific enough to pinpoint what caused it—it could be anything from a bad optical medium (CD-R) to a dusty or dying laser diode. You have to isolate the problem—use a different CD-R brand, try a different speed, use a different burn engine (eg, Burn), etc. If it occurs once or twice, randomly, it's more likely to be a bad disc. If it occurs consistently, and at the same stage of the burn process, it's more likely to be a drive or software issue.

  • What does error message when trying to burn DVD from iDVD mean "not enough disk space to burn the remaining assets"

I created a DVD in idvd and now when trying to burn to DVD using external burner, I get the error message
"not enough disk space to encode the remaining assets". I am using a brand new blank DVD.
I have read the help info on computer but hasnt proved helpful.
    Any suggestions?

iDVD requires a fair amount of disk space to carry out the encoding process; depending on your project, you may need to have over 25 GB free space on your startup hard drive.  How much free space do you have?

    Hello, cinemann,
    Welcome to the discussions.
+Can you help me?+ Maybe....probably....but you need to give more information about your project.
What are you trying to burn? Movies, photos? From where? iMovie, iPhoto? What versions are you using?
What exactly is the error message? At what point do you get the error message?
What is the 'path' that you checked?
What OS are you using? How much free drive space?
Once you provide more specific information, we can address your problems.

  • Get "error 4300" when trying to burn a playlist cd

All at once I am getting this error when trying to burn a cd in iTunes.  Sometimes it will burn one song and then again it won't.

    Hello aleahcim915,
I was looking through our resources for troubleshooting cd burning errors in iTunes for Windows, and came across some great information for you. I would first recommend you use this article named iTunes for Windows: Additional troubleshooting tips for burning issues found here: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1374.
Start here, and work your way down:
    Resolution
If after following the instructions in this document you still can't read or burn discs, try the following:
    Try other software
Open a different music player, such as Windows Media Player, and test if it can play a CD you've burned.
Open the CD burning software that came with your computer or disc drive, and test to see if it can burn a CD.
If you're not able to read or burn discs using other software, there may be a more general issue with your computer or the drive. You should probably contact your computer or drive manufacturer for help. In the mean time, try the tips below.
    Use good blank discs
Some brands of blank discs may work better with your drive than others. Check the disc manufacturer's website for the brand of blank discs you are using. Many brands post lists of drives that have issues burning to their discs. They may also publish tips on how to troubleshoot burning issues.
You can use the chart below as a general guideline to assess what types of CD-R media are compatible with different drive types.
If need be you can also re install iTunes, and Apple has another article that will walk you through that. For Windows 7+ and Vista, http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1923 depending on the version you have installed.
    All the best,

Thanks for replying. I went to the store and bought CD's and DVD's of different brands, many of which I have used in the past. All but a couple of them worked. Maxell, Memorex, Verbatim and Sony did not work.
After several long discussions with AppleCare and some tests, they finally determined that the Superdrive needs to be replaced. So, I'm off to the Apple Store.
    Thanks again!

  • Error 4280 when trying to burn a CD...but not all the time

    Hi,
I hope someone can help me.
I have never had issues before but in the last few days it has been HORRIBLE.
I have brand new CDs to burn to and sometimes I get an error to insert a blank disc(how can it not be it is brand new)
Other times I try to burn a disc and get:
"the attempt to burn a disc failed an unknown error occured(4280)
I have deauthorized and reauthorized my PC. Some of the songs I am burning are ones I loaded from a CD that I had burned one before with NO problems.
I have wasted at least 10 CDs in the last few days trying to get this to work.
I have checked EVERYWHERE for a list of Error Code numbers but I can find it anywhere.
It will check playlist then start to "write" a song and it stops.
ANY help would be appreciated I am seriously losing my mind!!
I made sure I had the latest version of ITunes and upgraded last night to be sure and I am the admin on my PC and I am the only one that uses it.
I was able to burn one this AM and then the next one the errors happened again.
I have seen a lot of fixes that ask if my drive is
    Sony CD-RW/DVD CRX830E model drive
It is not when I did the diagnostic to figure out my drive I get this(and I have tried burning as low as 4X
The last failed audio CD burn had error code 4280(0x000010b8). It happened on drive F: PHILIPS CDD4851 CD-R/RW on CDR media at speed 8X.
Is there ANYONE that can help or at least point me in the correct direction
    Thank you

I've done a little bit of searching on google and had no idea that this problem has been happening for YEARS... The ONLY solution I saw was for this Sony Driver, which i'm sure everyone here already seen... I haven't had any problem burning until iTunes 8.0...
Anyway, I tried that (Sony Drive), even tried the RegCure (whatever) but it wasn't exactly "Free", so that was a dead end... I even tried lower burning speeds...still nothing... As you know, I have two discs left to burn for a friend...
I just gave up on iTunes and burned it with my Windows Media Player... Just lucky for me, I burn all my purchases from iTunes to an Audio CD in case something happens to my CPU (also so I can import to my Xbox 360)... And once I do that, I re-import them so I can listen to the albums on my WMP...
But as I was saying, I just used my WMP to burn the album that wouldn't burn in iTunes... After everything burned fine, I went back to iTunes for the other disc and suprise, suprise...it burned without any problem... WTH, right?¿?
It may have something to do with the discs i'm using... Because I inserted a Maxell Pro discs to "test" the burn out in iTunes... It burned without a hitch (before I used the above method) but because of this, I only let it burn for 5 seconds; because it usually cancels out in 3 from the error... I was only trying to test the burn, and was surprised that it started burning... It was a better quality discs and I didn't want to burn the album that I was testing on it... I tried to cancel but 5 seconds was too long...ruined the disc.. lol
So for clarity the disc i'm getting the error with is a Memorex disc... And its possible that they are to cheap...which was pointed out during my research online... But the problem with that theory is, I already burned 12 discs using those Memorex discs; so why NOW do I constantly get the error?¿? I couldn't be, totally the fault of disc quality...but then again who knows...
All I know is, as of now...I was able to burn another CD on iTunes after burning 1 from WMP first... Since I don't have anything else to burn (or that I want to) at the moment; as far as I know, i'm just waiting to get the error again... Which from my history could be 4-6 more disc down the line...
Another possibility could be that I actually burned the CD when I had WMP open... Maybe iTunes burning needs a "crutch" to be free from the error and after you burn one; you can burn a few CD's without worry of the error...
Sorry to be throwing so many "theories" out there, but having something to work on, is better than nothing... Once I have other CD's to burn, i'll come back with an update and tell you how many burns I got with iTunes before I got the error again...
    Disclaimer:
This is just my experience... I realize that many people have tried all sorts of CD-R discs and different burning software/hardware/whatever and they still get an 4280 error... I'm not trying to create false hope, as i've seen being pointed out from frustrated users...
So to summarize, individual results may vary... :P

  • I keep getting an Error 4260 when trying to burn a CD-R from Itunes... PLEASE HELP!

I have been trying to burn a CD-R at a slower speed but everytime I do so it comes up with Error 4260 and spits it out.  I have tried a system reload and still can't get it fixed.  I am trying to burn it at a slower speed b/c the CD will not play in my car at the higher speed.  Please help!

Well it probably means exactly what it says... How much free space is there on your hard drive where the iTunes Media folder resides? I believe there is also an obscure bug that can occur when software doesn't read the true value of the free space properly, and the workaround is, perversely, to duplicate some content so that with less actual free space the software in question perceives it as more. I've no idea if iTunes is affected by such a bug.

  • Error Code when trying to burn from a burn folder

    Hey everyone,
I am trying to clean up some space on my powerbook G4 (not that I need to) but I like to keep things tidy. I was trying to burn some files onto a CD, it recognized the blank CD, displayed it in my finder as well as the burn icon, I had all the files set up, I hit burn, went to the speed selector, and then when I hit ok an error message popped up saying could not burn "Error Code 0x80020000). Any clue as to why that is? This is the first time I have had a problem burning files, both music and data have worked before.
    Thanks for the help.

    Hi, Joshua.
I presume you are using the internal optical drive that shipped from the factory with your PowerBook G4.
    1. You wrote: "I am trying to clean up some space on my powerbook G4 (not that I need to) but I like to keep things tidy."Be careful not to "tidy up" anything outside of your Home folder or the Macintosh HD > Users > Shared folder. Your Home > Library folder is another folder that should not be altered unnecessarily.
"Tidying" System files can render your Mac inoperable unless you either:
    • Have a deep understanding of Mac OS X and the files in question.
    • Are instructed to remove such a file by someone with such understanding.
    2. You wrote: "Error Code 0x80020000)"This is an "Internal Disc Recording" error.
You may have selected too high a speed for the optical media or the optical drive, have bad media, or be using optical media that your optical drive cannot see correctly. Some new, high-speed media use dyes that are problematic with older Mac optical drives. See Macintosh: Factors That Affect Writing to or Reading From Optical Media. If you've not used this brand of media before, try a brand and speed of media that has worked in the past.
    Good luck!
