Error 4261 in attemp to burn a CD

I'm getting this message just after disc burn starts " An attempt to burn a disc failed.An unknown error occurred ( 4261 ) and cancels the disc burn.If anyone knows what it means and can help id really appreciate it.Thanks.

Error 4261 when attempting to burn disc

I was able to burn discs just fine but then suddenly I get this error 4261. The disc willl begin to burn and then I get a message saying cancelling disc burn and the disc ejects and I get a message ending with 4261.
Have lowered the recording speed, bought new CD-R discs;
Has anyone found the fix to this?

I am having the same problem - I just switched to 5.0 and can't burn.

Error 4261 when try to burn CD's

Have a Dell inspiron 530S and Cd-Rom drive HL-DT-ST DVD+ -RW GSA-H73N.
I've tried all different types of CDs and speeds in burning. No luck.
I've read iTunes may not support my drive but don't know how to find out or fix it. Help!

Error 4261 and 4280

Help!!! I've been able to burn cd's in the past and only recently it keeps failing. The error message I get is "The attempt to burn a disc failed. An unknown error occurred 4280." and the same message with 4261. Help!!!!!!!

This error means that the file is in m4p format. That is an add on Apple tags to music to make sure you can only play it on certain computers. The bypass this, simply go to http://www.m4p-mp3-converter.com/ and download the free converter. It changes the format from m4p to mp3 so that you can burn and transfer to an mp3 portable if you don't have an Ipod. I spent 3 hours searching for this helpful hint, and found it in Apples archives. However--when the music is converted make sure you save the newly converted mp3 files to a location you can find. I saved them to mymusic. I could not find them. I have to go to mycomputer-C drive-mymusic file. If you save it to mymusic-that is how you locate the file with XP. Have fun--Oh- the trial is only for 14days. So convert as much music as possible. Also, after converting 3 songs to the new format, a screen pops up reminding you that you have the trial version. This is annoying, you have to click ok every three songs to continue the process. So if you have tons of songs, stay near your computer. Hope this helps you. Took me 2wks to figure it out-lol.

Did Anyone Figure Out Error 4261??

I am also getting Error 4261 when trying to burn CDs. I have sent the computer back 3 times now (thinking it was a hardware error). I have tried updating drivers, updating itunes and slowing down the burn speed but have had no luck.
The computer people have suggested wiping the whole computer clean and rebuilding from scratch. Since I don't have a CD drive to burn things onto, I'd have to buy an external hard drive (so I don't lose everything). Before I spend even more money on an external hard drive, does anyone think this would work?
Is itunes helping with this problem at all?

At first, several thoughts came to mind. Google? Never listen to music again. Invest in a sledge hammer? I decided to try and fix the problem and would work on this for the next eight months. Recently, I decided that this problem had to go away. I tried various things to correct the problem often with technical assistance as the following indicate:
Changed copy speed//Did a restore on my computer (no help)// reversed restore
Updated iTunes files//Did virus scans
Contacted a company techie—Discovered my warranty was still good. Cdrom driver was updated. We got the iTunes program to copy a disk. Problem solved?? Time passes.
The problem reoccurs. I contacted a techie again. He was able to get another program to copy on the cdrom I was using to copy iTunes music. I was told that I should contact an iTunes rep. $$. (One can save files (ex. photos) to a new file created on the desk top and copy them to a cdrom---a test method used.)
I read suggestions about updating my BIOS and chipset on the iTunes message board. Not being a techie I wasn’t so sure about this. Time passes.
I didn’t buy music.
I read messages saying that I should backup my iTunes music.
Called techie again. Updated cdrom driver. We were able to copy data using the same cdrom used for the iTunes copy. (Again this was not a fix. It was indicative of an intermittent cdrom failure occurring over time, and one manifesting itself in iTunes.) I asked him to try to copy another. Amazingly, this copy failed. Something was wrong. Now we’re getting somewhere. Techie eliminated select startup files to try to determine source of a software error, if one. This did not fix the problem.
Techie deleted a couple registry files. (I don’t like deleting registry files because they serve a valuable purpose, but I’ not a techie. Later I would have to do a file repair on iTunes and a photo program. iTunes has a repair feature which was on my desktop—a holdover from a previous attempt to fix things with an iTunes update. I ran this without harming my music files, and this repaired the program.)
Techie said I may have a problem with my current brands of CD-R disks. I bought and tried other brands---four all total. This did not work.
I happened to attempt to copy some pictures as I was interested in having some developed. To my surprise, my computer stopped the copy citing an error with the copy process. The problem now manifested itself with another software program. Heretofore, I could successfully copy pictures using the same cdrom but not iTunes music.
I called the techie again. I told him what I had done and new error in copying other files to the cdrom. We attempted to use other programs to copy music and picture files on the cdrom. (My thinking is, if they had worked, then the cdrom was OK, and the problem was a software problem and likely involving iTunes.) We could not get any software programs to copy files to the cdrom in question. This was a clear indication that the cdrom was defective. We likely used up ten CD-R disks in these latest attempts.
Looking back, there was a subtle indication of a problem with the cdrom. There was a problem with one of the songs I had copied to a new disk (No. 24 of 24 songs on a disk). The song was copied with errors. This shouldn’t happen.
The company replaced cdrom free of charge the next morning. Wow!

I don’t know, but I did run an update on my iTunes, and there are no updates for my photo program . Looking back I would have tried the updates first before I replaced the cdrom.

Sounds like the CD drive died. Luckily they cost next to nothing to replace. Or get an external LaCie instead. I have a dual G4 1.25 and the CD drive was always so anemic I use a LaCie Porsche with it.

Can't burn - error 4261 - please help!

I keep getting error 4261 when I try to burn audio CDs. I was able to do it for awhile just fine and then it stopped working and each time I try now I get partway through burning when it stops, the disk is ejected, and I get error 4261 message.
Here's what I have tried so far with no luck:
1. Decreased burn speed to 2x, on both iTunes and my CD burner
2. Turned off my virus scanning software (Live One)
3. Tried various makes of disks
4. Tried burning a new mix with just songs that I had ripped from my own CDs (i.e., no "protected" iTunes)
5. Updated to latest version of iTunes (7.3)
6. Tried going back to version 7.2
7. Ran diagnostics:

I spent about 9 hours on phone with techies(caution not to delete music). Without warranty, I couldn’t have afforded this. Luckily for me it was a hardware issue.

CD burn error a.k.a. error 4261

i make a playlist of about 20 songs then put in my disc (which i know can hold 20 songs because media player can burn even more songs onto it) and then click burn disc. it burns the first two songs fine and then after that either error 4261 or 4260 comes up or it finishes burning the disc and plays the first two songs fine then the rest are just clicks and fuzzes. please help me out. why won't it burn the discs properly. p.s. it used to burn discs fine and then it just stopped burning them all teh sudded a few weeks ago. i also have an optorite cd burner. please help.

Burn error 4261 - solved! (?)

Hello All-
I feel your pain. I have been working on this for a week. I got it working tonight. I believe the key was updating the firmware for the burner. I have a dell xps400 and found an update r143730 for the hl-dt-st dvd+-rw gsa-h21n drive on the dell website. I had to download it, extract it, then 'flash' the firmware. It was tricky to find..I had to go to drivers/downloads, enter my service tag, and look carefully for a download that had a slightly differently named device, but appeared to be the right one. I'm now burning.
Not following a very good scientific process, here were the other changes I made...It's possible one of these or some combo did the trick:
-new discs
-slow burn speed to 16x
-used a totally new disc that I had never failed to write on.
-enabled DLA in properties of the drive.
-updated some sonic software from some clicks off the drive properties near where I enabled DLA.
-tried to burn through media player.

Recently, I decided that this problem had to go away. I tried various things to correct the problem often with technical assistance as the following indicate:
Changed copy speed//Did a restore on my computer (no help)// reversed restore
Updated iTunes files//Did virus scans
Contacted a company techie—Discovered my warranty was still good. Cdrom driver was updated. We got the iTunes program to copy a disk. Problem solved?? Time passes.
The problem reoccurs. I contacted a techie again. He was able to get another program to copy on the cdrom I was using to copy iTunes music. I was told that I should contact an iTunes rep. $$. Says cdrom hardware is OK. (One can save files (ex. photos) to a new file created on the desk top and copy them to a cdrom---a test method used.)
I read suggestions about updating my BIOS and chipset on the iTunes message board. Not being a techie I wasn’t so sure about this. (Also Techies did not go in this direction.) Time passes.
I didn’t buy music.
I read messages saying that I should backup my iTunes music.
Called techie again. Updated cdrom driver. We were able to copy data using the same cdrom used for the iTunes copy. (Again this was not a fix. It was indicative of an intermittent/partial cdrom failure which occurred over time, and one manifesting itself in iTunes.) I asked him to try to copy another. Amazingly, this copy failed. Something was wrong. Now we’re getting somewhere. Techie eliminated some startup files to try to determine source of a software error, if one. This did not fix the problem.
Techie deleted a couple registry files. I don’t like deleting registry files because they serve a valuable purpose, but I’m not a techie. Later I was told that this is a routine test procedure. (After the fix I would have to do an update of my iTunes program. iTunes has a repair feature which was on my desktop—a holdover from a previous attempt to fix things with an iTunes update. I ran this repair without harming my music files, and this repaired the program.)
Techie said I may have a problem with my current brands of CD-R disks. I bought and tried other brands---four all total. This did not work.
I happened to attempt to copy some pictures as I was interested in having some developed. To my surprise, my computer stopped the copy citing an error with the copy process. The problem now manifested itself with another software program. Heretofore, I could successfully copy pictures using the same cdrom but not iTunes music.
I called the techie again. I told him what I had done and new error in copying other files to the cdrom. We attempted to use other programs to copy music and picture files on the cdrom. (My thinking is, if they had worked, then the cdrom was OK, and the problem was a software problem and likely involving iTunes---software and not hardware Obviously I wanted a cdrom replacement as this would be easier for me than pursuing imbedded software program issues.) We could not get any software programs to copy files to the cdrom in question. This was a clear indication that the cdrom was defective. We likely used up ten CD-R disks in these latest attempts.
Looking back, there was a subtle indication of a problem with the cdrom. There was a problem with one of the songs I had copied to a new disk (No. 24 of 24 songs on a disk). The song was copied with errors. This shouldn’t have happened.
The company replaced cdrom free of charge the next morning in about 5 minutes. Wow!
I tried the new cdrom and began burning iTunes music right away. No 4261 error message. I also copied pictures to the same cdrom without any error messages. I also successfully used other brands of CD-R disks.
I had problems with iTunes and a photo program after cdrom installation but fixed them with updates. I also experienced problems with Windows Media Player and Roxio/Sonic. They didn’t want to recognize the new cdrom in drive (E:). Restore made things worst so I undid this. I spoke to a tech again about these issues as I wasn’t certain of the scope/nature of problem. Issue of ownership of problem came up again. Software vs hardware. We updated both programs with updates from company support pages. This fixed the problem. Point learned here was the need to keep files updated with the latest and greatest. I am skeptical of too many changes because of risk of problems. Now, it seems, I have no choice but to do this---critical changes at least. Many thanks to Techie.
The thought in my mind now is whether performing updates and specifically on Windows Media Player would have fixed the error to begin with. Well, I did run an update on my iTunes prior to, and there are no updates for my photo program. Looking back I would try the updates/repair first (the easy stuff) before I replaced the cdrom. I spent about 9 hours on phone with techies(caution not to delete music). Without warranty, I couldn’t have afforded this. Luckily for me it was a hardware issue.
Replacing the cdrom on my computer fixed the 4261 error on my computer. I hope something here will be of help to some of you who have the same problem.

CD Burner - Error 4261?!

Hi
Everytime I try to burn a cd from a playlist on itunes it get's started but about two minutes in it cancels and gives this message about not being completed due to error 4261.
What does this mean and how can I fix this?

I have been getting 4450.
Today I burned through 14 discs (three different brands) attempting to copy various playlists. It would kick in for a minute or so and then spit out the CD, saying that the burn speed was too high or giving me error prompt 4450.
I tried kicking down the burn speed to 4x -- even though it's always been set at ''maximum possible'' -- and same thing.
A similar thing happened when I tried Windows Media Player.
But I was able to burn a CD using Roxio.
Trouble is, I want access to my downloaded music on iTunes.
Any ideas?

Error 4261 - Burning Cd's

Rather than sifting through this vast ocean of forums and discussion for an indirect solution to somebody elses' problem, I figured it's in my best interest to begin a new topic.
So, while I was burning some cd's and whatnot, out of nowhere, my itunes started canceling the burning process when it had worked perfectly just minutes prior to the problem.
When this happened, it would say error (4261). I've searched everywhere for what error 4261 specifically entails and found nil. So after minutes of screaming and cursing my obsolete computer and software I realized that probably wasn't the most mature thing I could be doing.
Anyone care to assist me in my plight?

This sounds like a virus problem.
You should try downloading Malwarebytes, update and run a full scan.
If not, then there's something wrong with your CD tray. (Although, I'm pretty sure it's a virus problem. They're known for randomly opening CD trays)

Error 4261 when burning a CD with 7.0.1

Each time I try to burn a cd with 7.0.1 I get error 4261 and the burning is canceled, below is my cd diagnostic, can someone help please, thank you in advance,
