Error 4261 issue while burning CDs.

Hi... I have unfortunately received error 4261 while burning iTunes music onto a CD.  Fortunately, others have shared some great information through venues like this.  I have gotten through some of the suggestions on my own, including reducing the burn speed, trying different brands of CDs, and running diagnostics and updates.  My CD-ROM diagnostic did not reveal any problems nor did it indicate any software updates were necessary.  I did install a JAVA update and ran the "microsoft updates."  After I did this, iTunes was no longer working and I had to repair my iTunes installation.  Regardless of the updates and slower burning speeds, I am still having problems.
Others seem to have cited anti-virus and firewall issues as the source to this problem. I haven't gone there yet because I don't want to compromise the integrity of the system since I don't exactly know what to "fix" there.
Here are my iTunes diagnostics for the CD/DVD drive connections.  Any help would be appreciated.

I would appreciate an answer, since some older posts on this subject have been met with impolite and dismissive responses. If anyone has anything constructive to add, please post in response.
    Sony VAIO   Windows XP

Had trouble posting entire messaage on first attempts. Hopes this works for you. Pardon if this is a duplication.
I got an Error 4261 message on my computer some months ago while attempting to backup my iTunes music ---about Dec. 2006. Hopefully, the problem is now solved. This was a difficult and time consuming issue to resolve. I shall provide some details of this resolution (worked for me) as I know some others are having the same problem. I hope to post this message to others with 4261 errors.
I have a Dimension E510 computer bought in 2006. I am using Windows XP. My CD ROM burner is as follows: HL-DT-ST DVD +-RW GWA4164B. I wonder if you have the same type CD ROM.
At first, several thoughts came to mind. Google? Never listen to music again. Invest in a sledge hammer? I decided to try and fix the problem and would work on this for the next eight months. Recently, I decided that this problem had to go away. I tried various things to correct the problem often with technical assistance as the following indicate:
Changed copy speed//Did a restore on my computer (no help)// reversed restore
    Updated iTunes files//Did virus scans
Contacted a company techie—Discovered my warranty was still good. Cdrom driver was updated. We got the iTunes program to copy a disk. Problem solved?? Time passes.
The problem reoccurs. I contacted a techie again. He was able to get another program to copy on the cdrom I was using to copy iTunes music. I was told that I should contact an iTunes rep. $$. (One can save files (ex. photos) to a new file created on the desk top and copy them to a cdrom---a test method used.)
I read suggestions about updating my BIOS and chipset on the iTunes message board. Not being a techie I wasn’t so sure about this. Time passes.
    I didn’t buy music.
I read messages saying that I should backup my iTunes music.
Called techie again. Updated cdrom driver. We were able to copy data using the same cdrom used for the iTunes copy. (Again this was not a fix. It was indicative of an intermittent cdrom failure occurring over time, and one manifesting itself in iTunes.) I asked him to try to copy another. Amazingly, this copy failed. Something was wrong. Now we’re getting somewhere. Techie eliminated select startup files to try to determine source of a software error, if one. This did not fix the problem.
Techie deleted a couple registry files. (I don’t like deleting registry files because they serve a valuable purpose, but I’ not a techie. Later I would have to do a file repair on iTunes and a photo program. iTunes has a repair feature which was on my desktop—a holdover from a previous attempt to fix things with an iTunes update. I ran this without harming my music files, and this repaired the program.)
Techie said I may have a problem with my current brands of CD-R disks. I bought and tried other brands---four all total. This did not work.
I happened to attempt to copy some pictures as I was interested in having some developed. To my surprise, my computer stopped the copy citing an error with the copy process. The problem now manifested itself with another software program. Heretofore, I could successfully copy pictures using the same cdrom but not iTunes music.
I called the techie again. I told him what I had done and new error in copying other files to the cdrom. We attempted to use other programs to copy music and picture files on the cdrom. (My thinking is, if they had worked, then the cdrom was OK, and the problem was a software problem and likely involving iTunes.) We could not get any software programs to copy files to the cdrom in question. This was a clear indication that the cdrom was defective. We likely used up ten CD-R disks in these latest attempts.
Looking back, there was a subtle indication of a problem with the cdrom. There was a problem with one of the songs I had copied to a new disk (No. 24 of 24 songs on a disk). The song was copied with errors. This shouldn’t happen.
The company replaced cdrom free of charge the next morning. Wow!
I tried the new cdrom and began burning iTunes music right away. No 4261 error message. I also copied pictures to the same cdrom without any error messages. I also successfully used other brands of CD-R disks.
Replacing the cdrom on my computer fixed the 4261 error on my computer. I hope something here will be of help to some of you who have the same problem.
As I mentioned earlier I had problems with iTunes and a photo program after cdrom installation but fixed them. I also experienced problems with Windows Media Player and Roxio/Sonic. They didn’t want to recognize the new drive (E:). Restore made things worst so I undid this. I spoke to a tech again about these issues as I wasn’t certain of the scope/nature of problem. We updated both programs with updates from company support pages. This seems to have fixed the problem. Point made here was the need to keep files updated with the latest and greatest. Having had Windows ME in the past, I was reluctant to change my files too often. Now I have no choice but to do this. Many thanks to Techie.
The thought in my mind now is whether performing updates and specifically on Windows Media Player would have fixed the error to begin with. I don’t know, but I did run an update on my iTunes, and there are no updates for my photo program . Looking back I would have tried the updates first before I replaced the cdrom.
    Kindest regards. 08/13/07

  • Why is the Error Code 0x8002006E While Burning the Disc?

Hey there! I don't seem to get through this Issue. I was trying to burn content to a Disc and it failed with the error code 0x8002006E, while the process was almost complete. I came across a few forums and nothing helped much to resolve this problem. Is there someone who knows the exact cause? Is this is a known-issue or anything already being addressed by Apple? Or a work-around to get this resolved? because i also read (did not try) that no third-party applications, as an alternative, solved this Issue. Disappointed! Help!

    I found this article excerpt:
The few solution that where found where by calling at Apple and get technical support. There are a few solutions that might work.
The first one would be Go to users > your computer name / user name > library > Preferences > com.apple.finder.plist and delete this file. Also it’s advised to keep the burn speed at 8x.
The second solution found that Apple technical support gave is to unplug everything, including the AC power cord and then remove the battery. Press the power button for 10 seconds without replacing the battery or attaching the AC power cord and after the 10 seconds are up replace the battery. After the battery is in slot hold down the following keys with the left hand: Option + Apple (command) + R and with the right hand hold down the following keys: P + Power Button. You will need to hold all 5 of these buttons at the same time until you hear both sets of startup chimes Release all of the 5 buttons after you hear the two startup chime sounds.
    Hope this helps

  • Patch for error code 2131 when burning CDs in itunes for Toshiba computers:

Just today, Toshiba posted patch for the infamous "error code 2131" when trying to burn CDs in itunes on many Toshiba laptops. Lucky for me, today was the first time I tried to do so, but I feel for all you other folks who have been very frustrated about this issue. Here is the link to it on the Toshiba support page:
    http://www.csd.toshiba.com/cgi-bin/tais/su/susc_dtlViewDL.jsp?soid=2024958&moid=1909174&rpn=PSAF3U&BV_SessionID=@@@@043462335 6.1208403240@@@@&BV_EngineID=cccgadedlgfhkdecgfkceghdgngdgnn.0&ct=DL&alldocs=false
I'm going to install it now and report back if there is anything tricky about it (I read in another forum that someone had already gotten the patch and had posted a link to it at a private website where there were a few different options and you had to figure out which was the right one, but this should be easier and "official")
    Hope this helps!

hmmmmm. i'm proceeding under the assumption that you've got a Dell 5150/E510. if i'm wrong about that, please check in with Dell to confirm your model prior to applying any updates.
i had a look at the support site for your model (or at least, what i'm assuming your model is). your firmware appears to be up to date for the HL-DT-ST DVD+-RW GWA4164B that you're getting the error on, but there does seem to be newer firmware available for the SONY DVD-ROM DDU1615. so it might be worth getting that, just in case there some kind of odd interaction happening between the drives.

otherwise, we'd better check on some of the other usual suspects with this sort of thing:

Don't bother wasting your money buying alternative dvd media, don't bother to reformat your machine or use alternative burning software as i have tried everything in the book and everything that is not in the book, this as someone quiet rightly said on communities a Apple problem and i am surprised that Apple have not jumped on this one sooner.
Apple get your best minds on this please there are lots of frustrated people out here

lots of people repport issues with optical drives dieing after awhile and with all the moving parts I'm not really chocked

  • Error 4315 unable to burn CDs

When ever I try to burn a play list to CD, the burn process starts, looks like it's going and then I get an error message saying the burn failed because of an error 4315. I'm reasonably certain that I was able to burn CDs from iTunes in the past and wonder if some update of iTunes broke this feature. I don't have any problem burning CDs from other programs. I've seen postings for this error before, but it does not appear that any one ever found a solution to this. It seemed the only workaround was to transfer the music to an iPod and then use another program to convert it to either MP3 or some other general Windows fomat, but I do not have an iPod and would rather avoid having to buy one just to burn CDs. Does any one have a clue what this error means or have a solution now? Is it really possible now to burn CDs from iTunes, I got a different error when I tried to do this with a second system I had. If I can't burn CDs from iTunes I may have to consider going back to another Music service/software.

I think I fixed it...I went under My Computer, then right clicked on the cd drive that I used to burn, go to properties, went under the auto play tab, selected the action to perform button for each individual category(dvd, blank cd, music cd) selected the no action icon for each category. Then went to the recording tab and unselected the enable recording selection. Now I can burn every time! If this fixes it for anyone else let me know!

  • Volume control while burning CDs

When I burn CDs from itunes there are songs with different natural volumes. I've tried checking and unchecking the "use sound check" option in edit/preferences/advanced/burning, but the volumes of different songs are still different after burning to a CD. Does anyone know how to set all volumes to the same level on the CD?

Sound Check for burning does not work as advertised, and has not ever done so thru all the releases that I have used. You can try manually adjusting the volume of the individual wayward tracks, via Get Info > Options > Volume Adjustment.

I have mp3 and m4p songs (bought from iTunes stores) on my PC. I have also completed the authorization process for the non registered songs.
When I try to burn an Audio CD using iTunes, it gives the following error with respect to iTunes music store files.
Please let me know how can one burning iTunes music store files (Protected AAC audio files) to MP3 CDs.

This can be caused by poor quality media ( = poor quality coating).
Not recommended: Memorex, Sony, cheap supermarket offerings
Recomended: Verbatim, Fuji, Maxell, Taiyo Yuden.
Also, use a slow burn speed like 2x or 4x.

  • Help with error code 4310 while burning CD on windows 8

Cancels when burning and pops up with text box saying. "The attempt to burn a disc failed. An unknown error (4310)".

    Hi funjjhoweANDcool,
I understand the frustration when you are unable downloading content from the iTunes Store. I would start with this section of the following article.
iTunes Store: "Error (-50)" when downloading purchased content
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ts1583
This can happen when a connection timeout occurs while you're downloading purchased content from the iTunes Store. For example, certain types of software may affect how a computer sends and receives information from the Internet:
    Firewalls
    Web Accelerators
    Ad Filters
    Virus Protection Software
    Resolution
If you have any of the software listed above and you can't access the iTunes Store or complete your download, you'll need to configure the software to allow iTunes to connect to the Internet and to allow the following domains to send and receive data from the Internet:
    itunes.apple.com
    ax.itunes.apple.com
    albert.apple.com
    gs.apple.com
    deimos3.apple.com
    phobos.apple.com
Refer to the documentation that came with that software and, if necessary, contact the software's manufacturer.
You can also try these steps:
If a web accelerator could be causing the issue, contact your Internet Service Provider (ISP) or the software manufacturer.
If your computer is on a network, try using a different computer on the network or discussing the issue with the network administrator.
If needed, there are further steps including those for Windows 8 in this section.
"Error (-50)" appears when you download purchased videos
    Thanks for reaching out,
    -Joe
