Error 4280 again, but this is a poll. Share your experiences...

Okay so I've been researching this error 4280 when trying to burn on iTunes that (according to posters in this forum) signals "optical power calibration error." Trying many of the same brand discs (and another crappy brand), I've come to the conclusion that this may have less to do with iTunes or hardware issues and more to do with cheap blank media.
Here's why:
1) DVDs burn fine, even using a freeware burner
2) I can't burn a CD even with IBM DLA (drag-and-drop recording) or RecordNow!
3) At first I thought it might have something to do with the iTunes rip engine, but WMP can't burn it either.
4) I can burn the contents of an audio CD onto a blank DVD-R -- the same brand of DVD-R that I burn movies onto
So, since it is unlikely we all have defective drives and buggy firmware... okay well scratch that, we probably DO have buggy firmware. Since it is unlikely we all have defective hardware, and without a firmware update to depend on, it is only logical that the media is in question.
The poll is... what brand of CD-R or CD-RW do you use, and does it work?
I use Dynex (Best Buy brand) CD-Rs. They are crap and don't work. I also tried one that I got at work with brandname "Simon": same deal.
As they say in grade school... pass it on!

I'm not convinced it is the blank CD's. We have used a variety of brands and have problems far too often. In fact, we have more failed burns than successful ones.
Most recently we have attempted Memorex & Phillips purchased at Wal-Mart.

Ive had my ipod just over a year now and its deciding to play up and wipe the whole thing so its like brand new untill i sync it with itunes again, but this time it wont seem to restor the ipod just flashes white and then comes as before, Help?

If you've had it for less than a year, then it's still under warranty. Take it to an Apple store or an authorized service facility. See http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1434

You cannot take a backup of a database that is OPEN if it is in NOARCHIVELOG mode. You need to switch the database to ARCHIVELOG mode (and have it generate ArchiveLogs which you *must* backup with the database) !
These are the instructions to backup a database that is in NOARCHIVELOG mode :

Essentially, you need to SHUTDOWN and then MOUNT (but not OPEN) the database before you can take a backup. That means the database is NOT available to users for the duration of the backup. Also, you can only do a RESTORE of the database to that time of the backup and not RECOVER it to any intermediate time between two backups (because you wouldn't have the ArchiveLogs required for the point in time recovery).

I've seen alot of topics on this, but I could use some help here. My Burning thru itunes used to work well, but now everytime i try and burn a CD it says its starting, then a few seconds go by and it stops and says Error 4280. Here are my diagnostics:

The last failed audio CD burn had error code 4280(0x000010b8). It happened on drive D: PHILIPS DVD+-RW DVD8801 on CDR media at speed 48X.
ANy help is appreciated. I have burned discs before, on this version of itunes, and this is a sudden problem. Rebooting and reinstalling itunes does not help.

Update:
Okay I left iTunes open and tried some differnt Media (cheaper than my usual branded stuff - DJ decks can be even more fussy than iTunes).
I managed to write a test data CD. Then I put a new disc in and iTunes burnt an EP first try no problems.
I am guessing that there are soem problems with iTunes or the CDR filters that Aplle don't seem to be bale to fix at the moment. As it is I won't be using the Apple Music Store for a long time!

photoshop cs3 stopped working. get error - unable to continue because of a hardware or system error. Sorry but the error is unrecoverable. Reloaded software - but not resolved. Any advice? Someone mentioned Settings files or profiles?

This occoured in Photoshop CS3 today. All other Adobe products are functioning normaly on this system. Premiear CS3, Encore, Audition function fine. Photoshop was working fine then failedduring the evening. We have removed and reloaded Photoshop CS3 and recieve the same error. Still the remaining Products run as expected. All other Aplications on the system run normaly as well. No other indications of hardware issues are logging. There is ample memory and space available on this system.
Someone else suggested I trash my PREFS (I am not sure How I proceed in doing that - any advice on how to delete the prefs - willing to try that at this point) Thanks

Charts again but this time multiplot X-Y

For the life of me I can not figure out charts in Labview. I literally cringe every time I am asked to display a real time chart or graph of data.
Anyway here is what I am tying to do.
I need to plot several passes of data on one chart. I am using an X-Y chart because that is was is required to display the data correctly.
I can plot one run just fine but I need to change the plot color and run the loop again.
In my simple example the chart is in the inner loop because it need to be a real time display.
Each iteration of the outer loop needs to be a different plot color.

Im having a problem when running photoshop CS5.1
after deleting some fonts that were making the machine slow, I started having photoshop not running; a sign would appear like this:
Im running windows 7 ultimate. This happened after erasing many fonts that i wasnt using on my windows/fonts folder, so my guess is that i erased some fonts photoshop used or something like that. any idea where I can find a package that photoshop requires to work?

I was doing research to fix this problem and found the answer that worked for some: ctrl+shift+alt then erase preferences. But in this case didnt work.
Adobe Flash Professional 5.5, Adobe media encoder, and Adobe after effects arent working neither.
I found some answers related to how photoshop might not work with some fonts, or without some fonts, but cantt figure out which:

You may want to look at performing a repair install of Windows as well. This doesn't require anything super complicated, it simply checks for missing system files and adds them back in. But you need a Windows installation disk (where the replacement files will come from).

Portege M400 - Error message: Sorry, but this product is not available in your region.

I get the message above when I click on the link 'Portege M400' registration page under my profile. This is odd bcause I am actually writing this mesage on the PortegeM400!?
What I want is, naturally, to go directly from my registration and to the drivers that are ready for my PC, but it appears that the registration procedure did not workout? How does this work out - do I need to set up a different country to be allowed to move on. (Current country is Denmark)

No reason to be confused! What I want is quite natural - for a programmer. After registering my pc details Thosiba naturally knows what drivers I will be looking for. So what I expect is simply a link to those drivers and notting else. What I get is however a confusing message that - if nothing else - tells me somthiget that vcan not be true... if true I should not be able to input the registration information in the first place.
to summ up I do not want to go through the laubor of figureing out what drivers I need - and actually I do not need to as thosiba has all nessesary the information and so lets move on.

10.4.6 (again) but this time its about sound.......

I blithely installed 10.4.6 yesterday and went on with my work. I didn't notice anything until I tried to look at some online media and noticed that I can't get any sound from any Flash or Windows media files. Its rather wierd, I tried re installing flast etc.. but still no sound, can't figure it out!
Also I noticed that some graphics intensive programs crash out when I try to start them up.
All the usual programs work fine, anyone else noticed this?

Sounds like their preferences need to be removed. I'd contact their vendors and find out where those are stored.
Sometimes just editing their program preferences will solve that problem. If neither helps, then they aren't compatible with 10.4.6.

Error code: sec_error_untrusted_issuer but 'This site provides valid, verified identification.'

I cannot access GMail because I get the 'This Connection is Untrusted' page.
The Technical Details are:
mail.google.com uses an invalid security certificate.
The certificate is not trusted because the issuer certificate is not trusted.
(Error code: sec_error_untrusted_issuer)
If I click 'Add Exception', in Certificate Status, it says, 'This site provides valid, verified identification. There is no need to add an exception.'
My machine is on a corporate site, behind a firewall and proxy server. The proxy server substitutes the certificate so although it's called mail.google.com, it's issued by our internal CA. I've added the internal CA certificate to the Authorities list (by importing it to Servers and then selecting 'Trust the authenticity of this certificate').

Make sure you have SSL and TLS on, they are in the advanced options menu.

When I bought Photoshop Elements 12 this year I had a PC, but yesterday I bought a Macbook Air. According to my order PS Elements should work on both, but I can't open it when downloaded. What shall I do?

You should ask over on the photoshop elements forum, since there are some variables that come into play as to whether you can use your (license) version on both mac and windows.

Error 4280 - I can't burn purchased songs to disc.

I'm not a technical person and I've wasted an entire day trying to resolve this issue - I've followed suggestions on other threads which suggest burning tracks as data cd rather than audio etc but stll no luck. Basically I try to burn a disc, select the tracks, hit the button (as I've always done until I updated itunes recently)and after a few seconds I get the error message "Unknown error 4280". Seems this is a well documented problem and having googled the error message there are a number of sites offering a fix - can / should itunes assist? I'm paying for tracks I can only play on my ipod and I'm a bit miffed!

Ditto re Error 4280 when attempting to burn an audio CD. My steps were:
1) Upgrade to latest iTunes software (version 7.6.0.29) on Feb 1st
2) Purchase an album from iTunes store (Cat Stevens).
3) Attempt to burn playlist....
3a) Checking media - OK.
3b) Checking playlist - OK.
3c) Burndisc - initialising
3d) Writing "Moonshadow" - CD/DVD drive spins up ok. A few secons later....
3e) Message on screen "Cancelling disc burn. This may take a minute or two"
3f) Message on screen "The attempt to burn the disc failed. An unknown error occurred (4280)"
4) Attempted exactly the same steps on my sons computer (bless his heart), iTunes version 7.5.0.20. It worked first time (after I had double checked "store/authorize computer" was set okay).
I am not at all keen to start playing with Gear drivers or similar until Apple themselves advise. I should not have to fix something I did not break.....

Sounds like it's hardware issue. The iPhone warranty is based in the original country of purchase. Since it was bought in Korea you will need to ship the phone to someone you know in Korea to be taken in and then they will have to ship it back to you. The cost of shipping will be at your expense.
