Error 4280 from hypermedia CD's

I have read all the posts regarding error 4280 and none provide me with a soluation that works. I am attempting to burn music onto a Hypermedia CD (the brand of cd) using an Acer computer. If anyone could help, I'd much appreciate it.
Thanks and Happy Holidays,
Mark

wickedawesome,
If I don't get back to you, just keep bumping the thread. I always return home eventually.
The only thing I found of interesting on your support page was a firmware update for your drive, so let try that. Go here. (That "here" is a link.) Download and install the update.
Come back if this doesn't help your problem and we'll try something else.

I can't burn a disc from Itunes without getting error 4280 repeatedly. I was just able to burn a CD and now can't burn another. Any thoughts? I know my CD burner works as I just made a disc. I have tried changing file type from Audio to MP3 with no luck. Thanks for trying to help me.

    Hello Sonni,
It sounds like you are unable to burn a disc with iTunes due to this error code. I would first use the following article to check issues with the type of disc drive:

    sume one please help me

There is an option when starting the sapinst program to avoid starting up an installation GUI and instead wait for a connection from a remote installation console.  I believe it is:
./sapinst -nogui (or something very similar, check the installation guide)
The server will now wait for a response from your terminal.  Use the remote installation program and enter the port number of the server.  If you just run the sapinst program without the nogui flag you may run into some issues.  And make sure your versions match up.  I have run into an issue before where I didn't realize I was using a verion of the remote installation program that didn't match up with sapinst server program.

  • Error 4280 - I can't burn purchased songs to disc.

I'm not a technical person and I've wasted an entire day trying to resolve this issue - I've followed suggestions on other threads which suggest burning tracks as data cd rather than audio etc but stll no luck. Basically I try to burn a disc, select the tracks, hit the button (as I've always done until I updated itunes recently)and after a few seconds I get the error message "Unknown error 4280". Seems this is a well documented problem and having googled the error message there are a number of sites offering a fix - can / should itunes assist? I'm paying for tracks I can only play on my ipod and I'm a bit miffed!

    Hi all,
Ditto re Error 4280 when attempting to burn an audio CD. My steps were:
    1) Upgrade to latest iTunes software (version 7.6.0.29) on Feb 1st
    2) Purchase an album from iTunes store (Cat Stevens).
    3) Attempt to burn playlist....
    3a) Checking media - OK.
    3b) Checking playlist - OK.
    3c) Burndisc - initialising
3d) Writing "Moonshadow" - CD/DVD drive spins up ok. A few secons later....
3e) Message on screen "Cancelling disc burn. This may take a minute or two"
3f) Message on screen "The attempt to burn the disc failed. An unknown error occurred (4280)"
    4) Attempted exactly the same steps on my sons computer (bless his heart), iTunes version 7.5.0.20. It worked first time (after I had double checked "store/authorize computer" was set okay).
I am not at all keen to start playing with Gear drivers or similar until Apple themselves advise. I should not have to fix something I did not break.....
    Cheers,
    Aussie Tony.

  • Equium A60 -199: ITunes and Mat****a UJ-830s (error 4280)

I am unable to burn CD on my notebook. This previously has never been a problem, however recently no matter what type of burn software I use I cannot burn to cd. I am currently using ITunes version 6 and after the cd burning process starts my computer ejects the cd and I get error 4280.
I have read a few different posts on this on other forums which suggest using different CD to re-installing an older version of Itunes ( I am currently using v6), however the most interesting one seemed to come from Hewlett Packard's support site. They suggest opening the cd configuration folder and editing the file gcdrtype.cfg. This was applicable for a certain type of compaq presario desktop pc and goes on to advise to edit a line in the narrative, save and reboot and voila. The problem should be solved. Since I own a Toshiba eqium a60 -199 I wonder if anyone knows of a similar fix/solution to the problem.
I am also intrigued by the following message that Itunes CD diagnostics produces when i run it:
IDE\DiskFUJITSU_MHT2040AT_______________________00 22____, Bus Type ATA, Bus Address [0,0]
IDE\CdRomMAT****A_DVD-RAM_UJ-830S________________1.50____, Bus Type ATA, Bus Address [0,0]

Is this the root of my problem? How do I get this update?
If anyone can guide me in the right direction to solving my problem and getting me back to cd burning heaven, I would be most grateful.

    Hello
It is always very problematic if you use some, ion my opinion, "exotic" software. I have noticed that most users on this forum use "standard" applications like NERO burning ROM.
If nobody can give you an answer try to contact ITunes support and explain them the situation. They have enough experience with own product. Check also if there is any FAQ page. Sorry but I can not tell you anything that can help.

Using Sony laptop, CD/DVD drv = Matshita UJ-831Da.
    1. Burn quit working when iTunes upgraded to 7.2.
    2. I now get Error 4280.
    3. The only change was an upgrade to iTunes.
    4. No other software, or OS, changed on the system.
    5. Burn always worked with old ver. of iTunes.
    6. Burn still works with Win Media Player.
    7. Burn still works with all other software.
    QUESTION # 1
Does anyone know if there is a fix from Apple for this cd/DVD drive for the latest upgrades of iTunes?

  • Burned CD yesterday, can not burn today.  Error 4280 - Windows Vista

Yesterday, I bought a number of tracks and albums from the iTunes store. Before I purchased them, I created a test CD with some tracks I already ripped from CDs I own. I burned this CD through iTunes. All seemed well.
I bought my music. After, I also backed up my purchases using iTunes. Still, all seemed well.
Today, I tried to create audio CD with the tracks I purchased from the iTunes store. It did not work.
It seems that the error (4280) comes up a lot, but in relation to Sony drives. My drive is not made by Sony.
Anyone have any ideas on how to solve this?

  • Error 4261 and Error 4280

Well....Like many others iTunes worked flawlessly for me for a couple years then just became a huge pain in the behind. When I first upgraded to 7.xx I lost the ability to burn cds on my dvd-ram drive (error 4280). I was still able to burn using my extremely slow combo drive though so it was annoying but not unlivable. I tried all the fixes ....slowed down speed, turned everything off, update firmware, unpluded drives, tried different brands of media, blah blah blah. Nothing worked. But I had faith that someone would eventually come up with a fix so I endured.
Then the second 7.xx update came along and I was excited. Would I be able to use my faster drive again? Unfortunately the answer was no. But it didn't stop there I was now blessed with the inabilty to burn disks on my combo drive as well (error 4261). Yipee!!! So once again I started the hunt for a solution and found nothing.
Since both my drives are fairly common (one Samsung and one LG) I figured there would be a fix soon on the way. So I checked daily at first. Then every few days. Then once a week. Still no new answers. I thought, surely with the holiday season coming there will be a fix somewhere. I, myself, was planning on buying ipods for my wife, my 2 sons, my sister and my neice as well as a mac laptop for one of my sons (he likes the commercials).
Mid-November there was still no fix to be found and my frustrations grew. with no cure in sight I altered my shopping and my purchases turned in to 6 new Zunes (I got myself one) and a Sony Vaio. I realize the $3000 is nothing to Apple but my dicision was based solely on these to iTunes errors!
Anyway I have approximatly 300 iTunes purchsed songs that I would at least like to save to CD before I completely obliterate this program from my computer. If anyone could help I'll give you my first 2 grandchildren.

  • Unable to burn cd's: error 4280

I tried using the disc burner and after it seemed the disc was starting to burn, it stops and gives me a message that the burn was cancelled then I get a dialogue box with unkown error 4280. I ran a cd diagnostic and this appeared in part of the result: Some Dell computers need an update to the ATA bus driver before iTunes recognizes CDs. If you have a Dell computer, check the Dell support website for details
    I don't use a Sony cd-rw, I have this: _NEC CD-RW NR-9300A, Rev 105B

I also can not burn CDs with iTunes 5.0.1.4. I have a Dell Dimension 4400 with a NEC NR-7900A, Rev. 1.08 drive. Everytime I try to burn a CD it tries then comes back with the unknown error 4280. I tried adding the lasted firmware from Dell for this drive but it did not help.

    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=300448-Heres a start.
This happens on certain PC's. I dont know if you care to know the ins and outs of why this sometimes happens, but here is why and how to fix it. an application (such as Roxio, Nero, iTunes, etc.) is installing a driver file (as a .SYS) or replacing a working driver file that is referenced within your registry. For some folks, the replaced driver is still referenced by either an UpperFilterCheck or a LowerFilterCheck, and the device manager is actually seeking out that file that, well... no longer exists. Or, when you try and uninstall the application (iTunes is the frequent transgressor) everything is removed, including the related driver files, but the registry isn't altered... so the device manager continues to try and locate that driver file... which no longer exists.
the thing to do to reclaim your optical drives is located in your registry here:
    HKEYLOCALMACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE1 0318}
You'll want to have that open, and a mini-window of the following:
START -> CONTROL PANEL -> SYSTEM -> Hardware (tab) -> DEVICE MANAGER -> Offending Drive (with yellow tag by it) Right-Mouse-Click and PROPERTIES -> Driver (tab) -> DRIVER DETAILS
Notice that list. It references all the drivers that that particular drive is utilizing. There should be a single .DLL (dynamic link library) file and multiple .SYS files. It's the .SYS files we're focusing on, and they should be located in your C:\WINDOWS\System32\drivers\ folder stem. If you want to open a new window explorer, and go verify that each of those driver files still exists in that folder stem, you may.
At this point, compare the Driver File Detail list with the Registry Tree Location you're sitting in, and look at the UpperFilterCheck and LowerFilterCheck key values. Your offending key value will NOT be on your Driver File Detail list!!! It might be as small as "PFC" or something else, but that value is referencing to a driver file that no longer exists. Delete that offending key value. Close the registry.
Close the Driver File Details and Drive Properties windows. At this point, to finish this up, you need to Soft Uninstall (Right-mouse-click on the drive, and hit "Uninstall" ) the drive(s), let the Device Manager refresh... then hit ACTION -> Scan For Hardware Changes ...
This should start a new Found New Hardware cycle, and.... poof!... your drives should be back to normal.
Let me know how it goes.
    Good Luck,

  • HT3204 When attempting to burn an audio cd, I get an error message that says-burning failed due to unknown error (4280)?  It has been working fine, until today...what does this mean??

When attempting to burn an audio cd from my playlist, I get an error message that says, burn failed due to unknown error (4280).  It has been working fine for months...any solutions?

I have the exact same problem.
Been searching through this site to try and find an answer but still not come up with anything.
The wierd thing is that a couple of days ago it was working fine, and suddenly overnight it's stopped working.
The only solution i've found is that you need to have administrator rights as it says in the posts on the site below:
    http://www.emergingearth.com/itunes-7-cant-burn-cds/
Noticed by the diagnostic in your post that you dont have admin rights like me so that mite be the problem. Not sure if this is the right solution though.

  • Unable to burn CDs - unknown error 4280

I've updated to the latest verions of iTunes twice now. I can burn other CDs, but haven't been able to burn CDs for use in the car for two months. I'm really really tired of buying music I can't use. The CD will start to burn, then I get an unexplained error 4280. Or, the CD burns, but when I try to play it, I get an ERR in my CD player. Please help.
