Error 46: in QuickTime

Hi there,
I already reinstalled QuickTime and I keep getting the same error.
Error 46: Could not load or find the QuickTime ActiveX Control
It won't open at all, just to this error message. And after the install it reads, there was fatal error during the install etc:
Then "Error 1402. Could not open Key: HKEYLOCALMACHINE\Software\Classes\Quicktime.Quicktime\CLSID. Verify that you have sufficient access to that key, or contact your support personnel."
Than after ok I get...
"Error -1603 Fatal error during installation. Consult Windows Installer Help (Msi.chm) or MSDN for more information."
Any help would be great.

Which QuickTime did you have? The standalone or bundled up together with iTunes?
I had some problems. I had the standalone version and made an update, but I thought it was just for the standalone and it was the bundled up version. It caused problems to some programs I had but finally it is fixed http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=265555&tstart=0 .
I don't know if this will help you. Good luck!

What worked for me w/ the 2096 error:
After removing every trace of itunes & QT, I installed QT 7.2 and made sure QT worked.
I installed a Feb version of itunes (7.6.1.9) because I was not willing to waste any more time. **Make sure that you deselect the 3rd checkbox that says it will update other Apple software (incl QT). That was the mistake made over and over and over (and over)!
Now that my ipod is charged, I may try to install the newest itunes as long as I don't let QT update. I don't use QT so I don't care if I'm using a 2007 version.

  • I get the error message in QuickTime "operation stopped the operation is not supported for this media" most times when I try and export an .AVI file as something else (.m4v). I have not touched the file in any way (no trimming, clipping or other editing)

I get the error message in QuickTime "operation stopped the operation is not supported for this media" most times when I try and export an .AVI file as something else (e.g. .m4v). I have not touched the file in any way (no trimming, clipping or other editing), all I want QuickTime to do is export the file in a compressed format. Bizzarely, if I shutdown and open QuickTime many times I can occasionally export a clip as another format (maybe one in 10 times). I have seen that other users have had a similar problem after clipping files in QuickTime but this seems to be a slightly different bug in that all I do is open the file and then try and export the file as is - either way, this is a very annoying bug

@Z_B-B, thank you for taking the time to respond to my cry for help. However, the link you supplied does not address the problem: I am not trying to export from Final Cut Pro to QuickTime, I am trying to export from QuickTime to the rest of the world (like people's iPhones and Ipads) in .m4v format (so I am not emailing my freinds such huge files).
If I were to spend hundreds of Dollars on a copy of Final Pro I could export directly from there and not have to bother with QuickTime, but I do not take enough video clips to justify the cost. I must say that I never had any of these problems before I decided to switch from Snow Leopard to Mountai Lion.

If there are problems with updating or with the permissions then best is to download the full version and trash the currently installed version to do a clean install of the new version.
*Trash the current Firefox application (open the Applications folder in the Finder and drag the Firefox application to the Trash) to do a clean (re)install
*Install the new version that you have downloaded
    * http://kb.mozillazine.org/Installing_Firefox#Mac_OS_X
Your personal data is stored elsewhere in the Firefox profile folder, so you won't lose your bookmarks and other personal data when you uninstall and (re)install Firefox.

You can also try to repair the disk permissions:

HAD AN ERROR WHEN DOWNLOADING QUICKTIME THIS MORNING NOW ITUNES SAY ITS CLOSED ???    RUNNING VISTA

    Found the solution! Hooray!
Noticed a suggestion on this thread:
    http://discussions.info.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=11731496#11731496
To look in the ~/Library/iTunes/Mobile\ Backups folder to find the Manifest.plist folder, and delete entries for apps that might be causing the problem.
I remembered that a little while ago, I had started getting an error message while syncing and updated app (Sleepmaker or something- couldn't remember which, precisely, but knew that it was a white noise app). So, I went to the Manifest.plist folder, and removed the entries for the couple different flavors of the Sleepmaker app that I had installed.
Then, reconnected the iPhone, and clicked "Continue Restore" once again when it reported that there had been an interrupted restore. This time, it went through fully! Took quite a while (~1 hr) to copy all my media onto the phone, but now it's all there! Hopefully this will help others who might in the same situation...

  • Error when opeing QuickTime 7

Hey guys so I just downloaded Quictime 7 to my Feb 2011 MacBook Pro bec I have QuickTime pro registration and I wan't to be able to edit my movie files on there but eveytime I try and open it I keep getting an error syaing that quicktime could not open...the only thing I can think of is that my machine came with quicktime x already instaled, do I need to delete that first before I can open it  and how do I delete it or is there something else wrong??
    Thanks in advance,
    Ray

The two can coexit.  I have both on my machine.  But the quicktime players are just that, players.  You don't edit videos with them.
As for your problem.  Not sure.
FWIW there are two plist's (preferences) assoiciated with Quicktime 7:
    ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.quicktimeplayer.plist
    /Library/Preferences/com.apple.QuickTime.plist
The first in your home directory are the preferences for Quicktime7 and the one second should contain your your pro registration when you register it.
Quicktime (X) only has a single plist:
    ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.QuickTimePlayerX.plist

  • OSStatus error -108 in QuickTime while trying to record my desktop.

I am getting 'OS Status error -108' in QuickTime (v10) while I am trying to record my desktop.  I get this error as soon as I hit the record button.
Anybody know what this could be? How to fix?

OK just zapped the PRam, no Cigar.
Personally, I did not think it would help. (As previously noted, I tend to agree with those who consider this more of a "contiguous" memory problem.)
see the 10.6.8 was installed freshly about 3 weeks ago.  this MM functions as a server doing faxes, answering machine, print server and a few emails a day (iMovie is not even installed neither is Flip4Mac).  so it is not like in heavy use.  so I fail to see how their can be fragmentation.
Did you "wipe" the drive prior to your install? If not, there is the possibility of carryover fragmentation. I just checked my startup drive and found 709,236 of 1,991,704 items out of optimum order (36%) since my last routine maintainence optimization, drive mechanics test, and general "dusting & cleaning" exercise. Here is the graph:
Of course, I may process an average of 100 GBs to 200 GBs of data during a typical day of copying, converting, and storing video content. (Yesterday was a non-typical day since I had to "panic" backup 597 GBs of DVD images from one RAID drive to another because one array appeared to require reformatting following its latest firmware and dashboard updates. This was in the middle of copying a season of TV shows to my internal drive, converting them for TV use, adding them to my iTunes library, inserting metadata, and proofing the results. In any case, it appears my DroboPro will survive after all since I discovered this morning that the dashboard installer app as released by manufacturer support was probably faulty. (I.e., the embedded PKG file embedded within the installer application was opening Pacifist for installation rather than the Mac OS Installer.app as it should have done. In any case, I extracted the installer package from the app file, corrected the problem, and ran the PKG file manually to save the need of backing up another 7 TBs of data over the next week.)
In any case, to get back to your problem... It may be a good idea to simply see if you can find a program that will graph, disply, or otherwise reveal your current state of fragmentation. If the disk is not fragmented, then you can continue your search for an alternative solution. If it is highly fragmented, then you can try the defragmentation option and see it it works. In either case, it may help others if you post your results here for further review.
    Best of luck...

  • TS3074 Hi, I have followed this advice numerous times, but my laptop still comes up with the same message, "iTunes was not installed correctly. Please reinstall iTunes. Error 7 (Windows error 5)." Quicktime also does not work. I have Windows 7, 32 bit.

I have also reinstalled iTunes dozens (literally) of times. I simply cannot resolve this conflict. I've looked on many other websites, and there seems to be no solution!

    update .netframework to latest version
    then
Follow the instructions on this link, basically un-install everything, remove programs that says they are made by apple inc. (using add remove program)
    http://www.reimageplus.com/fix-windows-127-error/   (Many thanks to reimageplus.com)
You will also need to check and verify that the following folders have been removed:
    C:\Program Files\Bonjour
    C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple
    C:\Program Files\iTunes
    C:\Program Files\iPod
    C:\Program Files\QuickTime
    C:\Windows\System32\QuickTime
    C:\Windows\System32\QuickTimeVR
dont forget to remove icloud also
you dont need to delete your itune music library though
If any of these folders still exist, delete them along with their contents. (if you cant delete them, right click and go to properties and then security and change the control of the fold to you)
do this for files under  program files and program file (x86) on your computer
once you have deleted everything, restart your computer. Then I repaired my registry using a registry repair program.
Important:-  instead of installing itunes I installed quick time, which installs apple application support (this is the corrupt file which is causing all the issues)
i then installed itunes and it all worked fine,
should take no longer than half hour to fix
    hope this helps

  • ITunes "Send Error Report" Message/Quicktime Problem

This is a problem that has only occured after I updated my iTunes to 7.0.2. Some songs in my library, and all of my videos that I have bought through the Music store cause the "Send Error Report" message to come up and iTunes closes down immediately.
I read another thread that a similar problem was occuring to a customer, and one of the admins requested him to un-install Quicktime and delete 2 files out of the registry. Then re-install quicktime through the "Repair" section of the iTunes installer. I followed these steps and the problem seemed to be fixed, but then they were "re-corrupted" I guess after I restarted my computer.
Do you have any idea what would be wrong? I know it is not spyware/viruses because I have several programs to check/delete them.
    Thanks for your help
    -jcavanagh.

    Bump for the 3rd time.
Quicktime will not even open, on a sidenote. It starts to load, then I hear some sort of beep..then it closes. I have tried re-installing multiple times and the problem continues.

  • Buffer Overrun Error When Updateing QuickTime

    Hi all,
I am using the most recent version of quicktime so 7.3.1, if I select update from the menu of quicktime player it loads to the following error:
Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library (Error message window header)
    Buffer overrun detected!
    Program: C:\Program Files\QuickTime\QuickTimePlayer.exe
A buffer overrun has been detected which has corrupted the programs internal state. The program cannot safely continue execution and must be terminated.
If I reopen quick time it seems to be OK but the error above is displayed when I quick on update from the menu again.
Also when I am in the Quick Time Preferences and click update, I get this error message:
Run Dll (Error message window header)
An exception occured while trying to run "shell32.dll,control_runDLL"C:\program files\quicktime\qtsystem\quicktime.cpl""
I have recently reformatted my machine and I have exactly the same problem before and after the format. Please help as this is driving me crazy.

I'm experiencing exactly the same bug. Matter of fact, it's the first time in years that I've run across this kind of 'problem' when using non-beta software from a major player. Too bad. This really reflects poorly on Apple's credibility.

  • Trouble with 7.0.1: Error message re:Quicktime.

    Hi,
Normally I'm okay with computers but I've tried everything that I can think of to fix this. I found these forums today and I'm thinking that I might just have to roll back to the sixth version of iTunes because it apears that wuite a few people are having issues with 7.0.1 but I like version 7 and would like to stay as up-to-date on my iTunes software as possible.
Last night/this morning (it was around midnight) when I opened iTunes 7.0 I got a message saying that 7.0.1 was avaliable. I downloaded it and it seemed to install without an issue. When I go to open iTunes though I get a message that says "QuickTime version 7.0d0 is installed iTunes requires QuickTime version 7.1.3 or later. Please renistall iTunes."
    I've reinstalled iTunes from http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
I've uninstalled it and reinstalled it.
I've tried updating QuickTime specifically from http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/win.html but it opens the same iTunes download file.
I feel like such a fool for not being able to fix this on my own. Does anyone know how I could possibly resolve this issue?
Here's an image of the error message I'm getting.
HP Pavilion dv8000   Windows XP   Microsoft Windows XP Media Center Edition

First go here and do ALL the steps from removing/uninstalling iTUnes AND quicktime, especailly "Clean up iTunes installer files on the computer" http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93976
Now the link you posted above for quicktime, theres actually 2 versions there. On the left side you can pick "Quicktime WITH iTUnes" OR "Quicktime 7.1.3" (Other words wWITHOUT iTUnes) Try the one without itunes

Im up and running with iTunes 6 now and its pretty cool.

  • ITunes Error -3 and QuickTime Error 1722

    Help!
I'm at the end of my tether here, I've been trying to install iTunes 6.0 on Windows XP SP2 and getting the error -3. So, I tried the standalone Quicktime installer as recommended on this forum and I get the 1722 error.
I've followed all the recommendations for fixing the 1722 error:
    - I've uninstalled iTunes & all versions of Quicktime
    - I've stopped all Anti-Virus/Anti-Spyware software
    - I have full admin rights to the machine
    - I've updated my Windows Installer
    - I've run the Windows Installation Clean-Up Utility
    - I've hacked the registry to death giving permissions to anything vaguely associated with Apple
    - Ditto for permissions for the WINDOWS\Registration folder and the Program Files\Apple folder and the folder I'm installing from.
    - I've stopped nearly every service I can and uninstalled just about everything that's non-essential
Are all Apple's updates so difficult to get working for Windows users? Should I just go back to the version of iTunes I got with my iPod and forget about updates or perhaps it's a cunning ploy to get me to buy a Mac?
Please, please help! I'm sick of this.
    Thanks.

I tried the standalone Quicktime installer as recommended on this forum and I get the 1722 error
good lord, psifive ... are we talking: "There is a problem with this Windows Installer package. A program run as part of the setup did not finish as expected." here?
that's an extremely unusual and exotic error message to be getting in this context.
let's proceed fairly cautiously, and start with something minimally aggressive. try
    b method 1
    from the following document:
    http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;555175
does the standalone go through now?
