Error (48) in FCP 6

I am finishing up a project that has taken me almost 3 years to complete.
I was trying to reconnect all my media and when I tried to open the project file I got the above mentioned error.
I also couldn't display the TIMELINE, CANVAS, AUDIO METERS or TOOLBAR.
So...
I went into my external HD where everything was stored and the project opened but everything needed to be reconnected.
I connected as much as I could... then I SAVED AS on my internal harddrive.
Now I can open the project and mostly everything is connected.
I guess I am trying to figure out why the ERROR (48) would happen.
I will say I have upgraded my iMac from a 2007 to a 2011 since I last touched this project.
I have also done all the software updates.
Glad things are working now... it seems.
Evan

Hi,
The only "error 48' I have seen is relating to sync problems with itunes, ipod/iphone etc. Maybe yours was because you changed computers and your media or project file was in a different place and had to re connect.
Anyway, sounds like you're up and running now so, good luck with your project.

  • New GFX card, Quartz Extreme error, and suddenly FCP 6 will not run. Help me fix this problem please!

Model Name: Mac Pro Model Identifier: MacPro1,1 Processor Name: Dual-Core Intel Xeon Processor Speed: 3 GHz Number Of Processors: 2 Total Number Of Cores: 4 L2 Cache (per processor): 4 MB Memory: 7 GB Bus Speed: 1.33 GHz
My old GFX card nVidia GeForce 7300GT which is busted.
I replaced it with a nVidia NVIDIA Quadro FX 4500 from a Mac Pro of the same generation.
I'm now getting a Quartz Extreme error whenever I try to run Final Cut Pro 6 or Compressor. "This system does not meet the following minimum requirements: Final Cut Pro 6 requires that your system have a Quartz Extreme capable video card."
Well, I checked the specs of the card and it does support Quartz Extreme. So why isn't FCP 6 running?
Looking under the System Profiler > Graphics/Displays, it doesn't say the Cinema HD Display supports Quartz Extreme, but how could that be, because the Quadro 4500's specs online says it does?!! This was the better GFX card made for the same generation of Mac Pro but somehow doesn't work!
This is also effecting my DVD player App with an error: "A valid video device could not be found for playback: -70017". Which has never happened before either.
I've researched online and can't find anything that works.
The card has power running to it and the monitor is hooked into the closest DVI port to the logic board which most of people with the same problem have done to fix this. I've also gone into the Disk Utility and ran both Verify and Repair permissions and the same for the boot disk.
Nothing. I'm stumped. Short of trying to flash the ROM on the GFX card I'm not sure what to do. And I'm not comfortable doing that. Help please?
I'm using Final Cut Pro 6 and subsequent older versions of Motion and Compressor, not FCP X or companion series.

  • General error when opening FCP project file

Hi, I have searched on the forums and found similar questions, but no solution yet.
I created a project about a month ago (FCP 5.0.4) and now I need to make some additions but every time I open the file (or all of the 20 autosaved files) I get a general error message. I tried moving the media files to another folder, but I still get the general error message. I have the project file on my local drive and the scratch disk is a My Book drive (I forgot to reformat the drive so it is still Fat32). I have removed the preferences and ran disk first aid already.
All of my other projects I can open just fine.
Any suggestions? I need to add about 2 more minutes to the project which is already 18min. It took me a week to edit and I really don't want to re-edit everything.
    I am using FCP 5.0.4 on a PB G4 1.5Ghz

I don't quite understand - did you move your project files to a FAT 32 formatted HD?
If so, they're probably cooked . . . (as in wrecked)
Check to see if they're .fcp and if not, try changing one to that, then try to open it.
Search this forum for something like FAT 32 or Mac OS Extended - you may glean more accurate info from that.

  • Error 27, corrupt FCP File

I closed down my titanium G4 last night, this afternoon i tried to open the project i was working on and i got a error 27 message, I just lost a month of work! needles to say like may FCP users we shut off autosave a month ago and have no backup! How can we repair the corrupted file? We have tried to repair using disk utlity after making a backup.
of course, the disk utility didn't work. We are trying Data Rescue X and Disk Warrior for OS9 to repair it. I hope it works. If anyone knows how to repair fcp project files i'd like to hear how you did it or what software or method worked for you.

    Nathan,
Ouch. You've still got the source tapes around, right? Most likely DW can right your directory problems, but not the specific corrupted media. Your best bet is to do this after running your utility of choice:
    1. Single out the bad media in your Finder. You'll know the bad ones because they won't preview in the Finder, nor play in QuickTime.
    2. Note which ones they are and delete them.
    3. Get the source tape(s), get 'em in the camera, and connect to your computer.
    4. Re-open your project and batch capture the newly off-lined files. You can still do this because the project retains the IO info.*
*Big caveat is that your source tapes have proper timecode.
    Best to you.

  • How do I fix quick time error -50 in FCP

I am having issues with one of my projects in FCP. It's isolated to this project only. When I go to share (any .mov option) FCP gives me "The share operation Apple Devices 1080p has failed QuickTime Error: -50" and it stops sharing. Not sure how to fix this. Help!

A mixture of all of the above. PSD's, PNG's,JPG,MP4,.mov,wav,and mp3.
I copied the project and shared it and it worked, took for ever, but it was a clean export. I am in pocess of upgrading to mt. lion and I'm hoping that will solve this minor hick up. I'm still not sure what a quicktime error -50 is or why it happened, but for now I have a work around. Fingers crossed Mt. Lion fixes it.

  • Error message then FCP shuts down

While trying to open a project I am getting an error message "Searching for movie data file Sequence 1-FIN0-00000172" with a stop button at the bottom of the message box. After waiting and no luck, I click stop and the project continues to open only to stall out at 12%. I get the same error message only this time with "Without this file, the movie cannot play properly" and a Search and Cancel button on the bottom. I click cancel. The project continues to load, timelines appear, and then FCP crashes. I have trashed all the render files and installed Preference Manager hoping this would help but, it hasn't. Any info or ideas would be greatly appreciated as this is my demo reel.
    Thanks
    Todd

Looks like the data file it's looking for is part of a QuickTime reference movie that no longer exists. Reference movies only work if all of what they reference (media files, renders etc.) is online on your computer. Self contained movies don't need to look for files like this because they have all of the media associated with them in the file itself.
So what seems to have happened to you is that you imported a reference movie from FCP or some other application, and then trashed part of what it referenced, or it doesn't reside on your computer at the moment, or someone else's computer where you created file has it on their drive. Render files can be part of this, so if you trashed them, they are goners.

  • "General Error:48" in FCP - Please Help!!!

Okay, this may be a long winded post but please bear with me. I really need some help here.
I am relatively new to editing and FCP 7. I took some footage of my friend’s birthday party and wanted to make a small highlights video. I am using a Sony HVR-A1U and a new iMac 21.5 with the upgraded video card and a 500GB external Firewire 800 scratch disc.
I imported the footage into FCP using the 1080i60 Sequence Preset and HDV as my Capture Preset. Everything worked great and I was able to edit the video.
Here comes the problem… I was reading that Apple ProRes makes for a cleaner and clearer DVD when using a lot of transitions and such. So I decided to re-import my video footage from my Sony. I kept my Sequence Preset to 1080i60 but changed the Capture Preset to HDV-Apple ProRes 422. Everything imported fine from my camera and the clips show up in FCP. When I take any of the clips I imported and drag them down to the sequence, everyone of them shows that it needs to be rendered (RED). If I go up to render sequence, FCP throws me a “General Error: 48”. All the clips also do not show any video. They are just white with an “x” through them. Am I doing something wrong?
On a side note, when I go out to my scratch disc and try to open one of the ProRes files I imported from my camera, I get an error saying something along the lines of it cannot open an open data file.
    Thanks in advance!

Try matching your capture and sequence settings or rather than starting ProRes you can export Pro Res when you are ready to go to DVD

  • File Error: 1 in FCP

I have been working on a major project due tomorrow, all of a sudden I can't inport any files at all. This is the error I Get; File error: 1, Recognized, 0 Denied, 1 unknown. Does anyone know what that means? PLEASE RESPOND IMMEDIATELY IF YOU DO.
When I digitize no clips are saved in the bin, but they are on the hard drive, but I can't bring them into FCP at all. I have made a new project file and transferred clips to another drive and still no luck.

if you close the existing project and create a new project does log and capture work correctly in that new project ... that is, is this error localised to this particular project, or does it happen to any project? fcp can have multiple projects open, so if the error is localised then you can simply open a new "capture" project, and continue to cut in the original project.
what about creatng a new user account, copying your project file to a shared directory, then logging in to the new account and opening your dodgy project there? does log and capture work with that project in the new account?
more things to try. do a "save as" on your project and see if the new version of the project file will function corectly. create a new project and copy and paste the project contents to the new project. export your project as an XML file, then create a new project using the file > import > XML function.

  • Flie error working between FCP and Livetype

I create my desired clip in Livetype and save project. I click and hold Livetype Icon in the Canvas window and press Command + Tab and toggle over to FCP 4. However, when I try to drop the Livetype Icon into my Browser I get Unknown File error and if I drop Icon onto FCP Timeline absolutely nothing happens.
Does anyone have any ideas on why this is happening???
    Thanks.

Maybe they have fixed some of the problems, but this workflow was the root of a number of people loosing most of their project files. Somewhere along the line FCP would think everything was deleted or outdated render files and would delete the whole bunch. They were not in the trash... they were just GONE.

  • Help with error message. FCP wont open

    Hi all
I am trying to get FCP to open after suffering a crash. I have re installed and in console i get the same error message as pre-reinstall. Has anyone had this same error?

  • Compressor fails on M2V file-Error message says FCP/user quit

    Hello,
I am trying to do something that I have done hundreds of times, compress a movie file to import into DVDSP. For some reason it will compress the audio fine, but at a totally random time it will unexpectedly quit compressing the video file and give the error message "Final Cut Pro generated an error or unexpectedly quitUser aborted Media Server". It will do this at a different spot every time telling me it is not the video content but more so the program.
I have tried on several different sequences all over 60 minutes in length (varies from 68 minutes to 130 minutes). I am using the "Fastest Encode" preset, length depending on the length of the sequence I am attempting to compress.
I can export out of FCP using "quicktime conversion" to MP4 and the same sequence will export just fine? Also I can use Compressor on a much shorter sequence, like an 8 minute clip copied out of the same sequence that fails, and Compressor does it just fine as well? Peculiar.
The only thing I have done recently is add 4 GIG of RAM, not Apple RAM but since I added it everything has worked just fine but much, much faster.
I have used Compressor in the past and while I don't get too deep into the program it has never given me any issues.
Any advice would be very appreciated.
    Many Thanks,
    Peter Mallamo

  • Getting codec error in  a fcp project NEED HELP ASAP

All of my other projects seem to be working fine, but one project in Paticular when I try to export using "quickime conversion" I get a codec error....as soon as I hit enter...therefore I cannot get it to convert to a quicktime file.
I went an checked another project and it converted fine, it's just this one. how can I trouble shoot this.

Just copy what's in the sequence. This is just a quick fix if it works. You would still probably want to figure out what happened in the old project to avoid it in the future.
Seems like maybe you have the wrong sequence settings or something. Others here would be better equipped to troubleshoot it.
    Good Luck.

  • "Share Error: Quicktime 0" error message in FCP - any ideas why?

Getting an error that states "Share Error: Quicktime 0" when using the share function to write to blu-ray. Of course, this comes at about 3 hours into a four hour encode, and of course everything is lost after this completely useless message. I've got the most recent version of QT, all the updates have been added, etc.
I burned one BD and one BD on DVD with no problems, and nothings changed. I've gotten this error twice in a row now, and rendering for three hours just to get this is beyond annoying.

  • Xdcam browser 1.3 - Error Registering for FCP

I'm using the xdcam browser version 1.3 to register footage for final cut pro. I've done this weekly with the same camera, the same sxs cards, and the same computer, drives, everything for months. This morning, however, when I press the button to regiser the clip, an error message is popping up that says, "Error occurred during the registration for Final cut Pro. Please refer the the details from the context on each clip." I'm not sure how to find the "details from the context on each clip."
    Does anyone have any suggestions?
    Thanks and God Bless!

Just in case anyone else is having this problem, this error message will pop up if you have used a slash (/) in the file name.
