Error 49 in iMovie11

When I publish my movie to youtube from iMovie, I get error 49. Can anyone tell me what seems to be wrong?
I know it meens "File already open with with write permission", but I don't understand what I'm doing wrong.

It seems like there's a number of these being posted all around the iMovie Discussion Group. So the solution posted most recently that seems to work for the largest number of people is this:
This requires using the Terminal app, in your Applications/Utilities folder
To turn off Time Machine snapshots type in the following command: sudo tmutil disablelocal
The Mac will likely ask for your password, so type it in and hit the return key. The type the word, exit and hit return. Quit Terminal.

I badly need someone that is an extreme expert on Mac Pro and imovie11 and very good at troubleshooting. I have a critical project to get out and have serious problem. Mac store solutions did not work. Need a Pro that I can hire to come to my office in Raleigh NC.
Cleared the memory space on the drive, cleared the preferences.. critical problem. Love to find someone good to hire in the Raleigh NC area that come over and work on it.

Apple Store advice did not work.

Rocker-65 is correct, large, long and complex projects can have problems resulting in a Error-108. Sometimes cutting a Project up into pieces or just cutting into 2 can help. Easiest way to accomplish the cutting is to create a Duplicate Project. Then just cut Project 1 in half, saving the first part. Duplicate Project gets cut in half and contains the second part.
Then if you want to stitch them back together, export each project individually at 720p. Import each one BACK into a new Event Folder in iMovie and combine then in a new Project, export that.

  • IMovie11 Export Error 108

May I ask you to resolve the error I get when I try to export a project in iMovie11 to a HD 1080p MOV file.
The error reads: “Unable to prepare project for publishing. The project could not be prepared for publishing because an error occurred. (-108)”
I did not “finalise” my project. I initiated the export using the following menu options: “Share” then “Export Movie” then click the radio button for “HD 1080p”. The export starts and runs for approx 15min then gives the error in the attachment.
I am running the latest version of iMovie11: 9.0.4 (1634). My raw project is 116 MB and 66min in size. I am working on a 15.4inch MacBook Pro I bought in Jan 2009 with the following spec: Mac OS X version 10.6.8, Processor is 3.06 GHz Intel Core2 Duo, Memory is 8 GB 1067 MHz DDR3 with 250GB solid state drive and 120GB free.
I am able to export using “HD 720p” and I have exported another smaller project (6min) using “HD 1080p”.

error -108 iMemFullErr  or  memFullErr: Not enough room in heap zone
I have never experienced this nor can I tell you how to resolve it, however I have seen it discussed often so I can point you in the direction where you can research it for yourself.
It seems that this only happens, as you have discovered, when you are dealing with HD 1080p files.
If you don't have to, use 720p which seems to work.
This thread is full of information:

After that, type Heap Zone into the Search box above and take your pick.

  • When I try to finalize my Imovie11 project it just errors out.  I have finalized other movies without incident and it will save the trailer. I've emptied trash and run all updates and there isn't a specific error code popping up.

When I try to finalize my Imovie 11 project it errors out.  I have made several movies and never had this problem.  I have emptied trash, and installed all updates to computer.  It will finalize the shorter, trailer but not the project itself.  It is not, by far, the largest project I've ever done. I am not getting a specific error code.

  • Error when splitting events in iMovie11

I imported video from my hard drive into iMovie.   The video clips all imported and play perfectly.  I now want to split the clips into multiple events.   I was able to do this with some of the clips, but with a few others I get the following error:
    Move Failed
This file could not be moved:
    /Users/myname/Movies/iMovie Events.localized/New Event 4/ iMovie Thumbnails/mymoviename
    (file not found)
Does anyone know how to fix this?

Use a transformation step to split the message then use a Block with par for each option and have the sync send in side it. Then send this asynchronously to the system you want to send it to.

  • Trying to load a .vob file into iMovie11  but get an error message that the file format is not compatible

can quick time convert this file or do i need additional software?

You need to convert the VOB files in the TS-Folder of the DVD back to DV which iMovie is designed to handle. For that you need mpegStreamclip:
    http://www.squared5.com/svideo/mpeg-streamclip-mac.html
which is free, but you must also have the  Apple mpeg2 plugin :
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/D2187Z/A/quicktime-mpeg-2-playback-component-f or-mac-os-x
(unless you are running Lion in which case see below))
    which is a mere $20.
Another possibility is to use DVDxDV:
    http://www.dvdxdv.com/NewFolderLookSite/Products/DVDxDV.overview.htm
    which costs $25.
For the benefit of others who may read this thread:
Obviously the foregoing only applies to DVDs you have made yourself, or other home-made DVDs that have been given to you. It will NOT work on copy-protected commercial DVDs, which in any case would be illegal.
And from the TOU of these forums:
    Keep within the Law
No material may be submitted that is intended to promote or commit an illegal act.
Do not submit software or descriptions of processes that break or otherwise ‘work around’ digital rights management software or hardware. This includes conversations about ‘ripping’ DVDs or working around FairPlay software used on the iTunes Store.
    If you are running Lion:
    From the MPEG Streamclip homepage
The installer of the MPEG-2 Playback Component may refuse to install the component in Lion. Apple states the component is unnecessary in Lion, however MPEG Streamclip still needs it. See this:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3381
To install the component in Lion, please download MPEG Streamclip 1.9.3b7 beta above; inside the disk image you will find the Utility MPEG2 Component Lion: use it to install the MPEG-2 Playback Component in Lion. The original installer's disk image (QuickTimeMPEG2.dmg) is required.
The current versions of MPEG Streamclip cannot take advantage of the built-in MPEG-2 functionality of Lion. For MPEG-2 files you still need to install the QuickTime MPEG-2 Playback Component, which is not preinstalled in Lion. You don't have to install QuickTime 7.

  • ParamErr: error in user parameter list

I am trying to finalize an iMovie11 project, and I get this error message: The project could not be prepared for publishing because an error occurred. (ParamErr: error in user parameter list).

    Hi
Error -50 paramErr  Error in user parameter list
Can there be any external hard disks - if so How is/are it/they formatted ? Must be Mac OS Extended (hfs) if used for Video.
UNIX/DOS/FAT32/Mac OS Exchange - works for most but not for VIDEO.
What this means in Your situation is above me.
    • free space on internal boot hard disk? How much ?
    Video codec
    • streamingDV, AIC etc. (not .avi, .mp4, .m4v, .wmv etc as they are containers not codecs)
    Pictures
    • in what format ? .jpg, .bmp, .tif, else ?
    Audio
    • from where/what format ? iTunes, .avi, .mp3, .aiff, else ?
    The "com.apple.iMovie.plist" file
Many users has not observed that there are TWO libraries.
    • Library - at root level
    • Library - in user/account folder - THIS IS THE ONE to look into
    from Luke Burns
I fixed the problem.. but it was very, very strange. I had a very long section for credits and set the line spacing to 1.0.. for some reason this caused it. I removed it, and it worked fine. I put it back, and I couldn't preview or play the video.
I don't know why that could cause that big of a problem, but it did..

You need more free space on your hard drive.

After phone support from apple I ended up creating a new project and adding all 117 clips back in individually till I found out what clips flagged and would not allow me to export. I had 3 I deleted and replaced and everything works now 1hr after tedious work....
Where do Your material come from
    • Camera
    • External hard disk
    • USB-memory
And all are connected so that iMovie can find it ?

  • How to prevent heap zone errors in iMovie'11

How to prevent heap zone errors before or during a new iMovie11 project

I read the discussion and sounds somewhat similar to how I fixed my heap zone error problem a year ago.  I was trying to be proactive before starting my next large project to see if additional info is available.
Info on last year's project and how I corrected it: 40 min project for export to iDVD. OSX Lion, All updates installed, MACMINI lots of free HD space. I tried MANYsuggested discussion fixes available at that time, without success. Finally adopted an approach similar to that in you discussion.  Step 1: removed the latest content until an export version worked; Step 2 -  added a few minutes of content; Step 3 - exported until heap zone error reappeared; Step 4 -  repeated steps 1-3 more than 30 times until able to export the entire project without the heap zone error. A tedious process but it worked. (Note: I was new to Apple and not using Time Machine)

  • Im having iMovie errors, anyone else?

Audio mute error, import audio from third party app, error, the library view doesn't show complete camera roll & more.

    Thanks for the suggestion...
I just got back from the Apple Store for the second visit with the Mac Genius to try to resolve the problem.
First visit we trashed the iMovie 11 application and reinstalled iMovie and ran a software update. Upon relaunching we were pleased that all projects and events ran perfectly from both the HD and the Drobo.
After lugging my 27" iMac back home and restarting it the same problem appeared.  I returned to the Apple store for a second visit. This time I left the iMac at the store overnight.  The apple service guys were able to duplicate the problem and wiped my hard drive.  There appears to be a bug with iMovie 11 (not confirmed) and an elevated report was submitted to Apple engineers.
I am leaving my "old" projects and events on the external drive unless I need to import them.  I am not going to restore from back up and will use a "clean" version of iMovie11.  No guarantees the problem won't come back.  This issue consumed a TON of my time.... hopefully Apple can fix iMove11.

  • IMovie8, External Hard Drive and iMovie11

    I have multiple issues here.
I have flim clips of sports my kids taken from game film.  So an "event" might be several clips or an entire game, and the Project would be the highlights. Some projects are just my kids ( ) and some projects are the year end team highlight videos.  Obviously some clips are used multiple times. I want to move these to use on a new computer that has iMovie11, but I want to keep them on an external hard drive.
THe problem is, this is what I THOUGHT I had done four years ago when I backed up a computer onto HD,  But from what I've read here, Since I didn't do it through imovie itself, I might have broken some sort of connection and this projects are now history becaue I didn't move the events, only the projects themselves.  Yes?
Moving forward, I want to make sure I don't lose any of this stuff.  It's right up there with a iPhoto library to me.
I've read about this media consolidation that will link events to projects, but was that available in iMovie08? (the version I am working with)  If so, I cannot find it and would appreciate direction.
But if I cant consolidate media, then how do I do it?  It'd be great if you could move iMovie like Iphoto and just choose a different library, but I assume that's not happening.
So, can I just manually move all these files to the external HD thru imovie (I get that you don't do it through finder)?  Although, the problem there is that when I connect my external HD (formated to MAC OS Extended Journaled), the HD disc only shows up under events and not under projects. It doesnt seem to allow me to drag and drop to it either.  So although I could feasibly drag and drop all the events, how do I move the actual inprogress projects so they don't drop anything, especially if I can't use finder to do so?
Once I move all of this to an external hard drive, the HOPE is that I might be able to continue editing them on my new macbook that has iMovie11.
And One last thing: Is there any way to move an iDVD project INTACT to an external hard drive so that you can come back and burn more copies later?  The one or two DVD projects that I moved to this external hard drive are completely empty now.  Which, again, is disappointing.
I was going to use migration assistant, but the truth is, I don't want everything that's on this old laptop on my new one.  And after reading how you had to move things IN iMovie, I was afraid I'd break the links to everything!  Too scary to even consider.
Sorry so long, but I moved these other files with the help of OnetoOne in the Apple Store last time and obviously, they didn't do it right because none of those projects will play now.

I also moved some files after creating a project: When I attempted to burn the project to a disc I was given an error message along with a listing of the missing files. This is most likely the long way around to rebuilding your projects but might solve one of your issues.

  • Error -5000 while exporting in iMovie 11

I edit a video with imovie11,it's about 20 minutes and about 1,5gb. I use some very good quality video. Also I have to say that this is my first attempt using imovie and Mac overall.
When I try to export through quicktime I always get this message.  The movie could not be exported because an error occurred. (-5000)
I didn't found anything in any forum about this problem

    Hi
It's New to me too. Please we needs exact information on what material You use Video Format/Codec - not just container as .avi, .m4p, mv4 etc but the true Codec.
    AFP Errors (XPP driver)
    -5000
    afpAccessDenied
    AFP Access denied
Does Your material open in QuickTime Player ?
If it does - PLEASE click on (cmd+I) or open Inspector and read
    Video Format/Codec: nnnnnnnn
    What does it read ?
Can it be so that it is 50p or 60p or 24p ? If so it might need to be converted to something usably.

  • Recover iMovie06 date to use in iMovie11

I have lots of iMovie06 movies (100s of GBs), originally imported from DV tapes.  I imported them in various ways into iMovie11, and the dates got lost every time.
    - They do have the correct date in iMovie06 (say Jul 1, 2005).
    - There is no date in iMovie11. If I hover the cursor over the clip I see the filesystem creation date (i.e. today), not Jul 1, 2005.
    - The file names in iMovie06 are "clip1.dv" and such, and they stay like that after import into iMovie11.  (Unlike iMovie11 movies imported directly from DV tapes, which have the date in the file name - e.g. "clip-2011-01-03 12;30;30.dv").
    My question is
    1. How does iMovie06 know the date? Is there an exif-like info imbedded in DV files?
Must be somewhere because iMovie06 does not go by filesystem date. I imported most movies from tapes in 2009 and they have 2005 dates!
    2. Is there an easy way to retrieve the date other then run iMovie06 and click on every single clip to see it?
    Thank you

    Thank you.
It looks like you are right, the only clean solution is the one I was hoping to avoid - re-import from DV tapes. As risky as it sounds, having the capture date reflected in the file name is transparent and easy to fix (I have a couple of DV tapes with the wrong year - my fat finger error).
iMovieHD was smarter. I see the clip capture date, and it doesn't come from the file name. Also, it is not the filesystem "date created", which is sometime in 2009.  I imported the HD project into iMovie 11 again, it dropped the capture date.  Only shows filesystem date created.  Fixed it on a few clips by right-clicking, got an even bigger mess. It did change the date but still says "created", as if it was still the filesystem date.  (It didn't change the file system date created though, and the file name is still clip01.dv).  Who knows where my corrected date is hidden. Very risky and inconsistent...
