Error 5 opening CS5 - OSX
I used Migration Assistant to put CS5 on my laptop (OSX 10.6.8) while my iMac is being repaired. When I try to open I get Error 5. I have uninstalled all previous CS apps. PCD and SLStore folder permissions are correct, according to steps given on adobe.com to resolve error 5.
Any idea how to fix this so I can work until my iMac is back? Thank you!
Creative Suite should only be installed using the original media. Migration Assistant has been known to cause problems.

I recently did a system update and installed Yosemite on my Mac. Now I am unable to open CS5 at all. The error message I get is this: "To open Adobe Photoshop CS5.1, you need to install legacy Java SE 6 runtime." I have tried downloading this and it still gives me the same mess
In the details it is mentioned that it is an outdated version of Java.
Is this a security risk that i need to live with to get CS5 to run with Yosemite?
Also i need to reject messages from Java in the future about updates, or not?
thx for any input -
I just installed OSX Mavericks and now cannot open CS5 Ps, Ai, or In. I haven't found any information about known issues or any updates that should solve the problem. Your help is greatly appreciated, thank you.
As it turns out, it was necessary to upgrade Java Runtime in order to open the applications. It seems to be an issue with OSX rather than Creative Suite; the only dialogue to that effect appeared when I shut down the machine. I haven't figured out why it didn't appear until then, but once it did it was simple to get the upgrade done and Voilá!

Iphoto 9.3.2 wont open in OSX 10.9.3
iphoto 9.3.2 wont open in OSX 10.9.3 it says i cant use this version of iphoto but wont let me update it either? So i am now without iphoto?
What to do?it says i cant use this version of iphoto but wont let me update it either?
How did you try to update iPhoto? What happens, when you try?
If you bought iPhoto from the AppStore, or it came preinstalled with LIon, update from the AppSTore's Update page. iPhoto must be installed in the Applications folder, and you need to sign into the App Store with the AppleID you used to buy iPhoto.
If you bought iPhoto as part of iLIfe '11, you can try the updater from the Apple support page.
So, how did you install iPhoto, and what is the error message, when you try to update? -
Error Opening Movie - The Movie Could Not Be Opened
Quicktime is giving me trouble and it's not giving me a reason why. It doesn't want to play movies dl'd from the internet. It tells me 'Error opening movie... The movie could not be opened.' The clip in question is a wmv. I tried opening the file in DIVx and iTunes but no dice; they didn't even recognize that I was trying to open a movie. I got the same problem with some films transferred from my old PC via a flash drive (not all, but some).
I am on a MacBook Pro that I just got this week; my first Mac. I am running OSX Tiger 10.4.8. 2.33 Ghz proc.
Please be gentle with the explanations; I know very little about computers.
Oh, also, in the DL'd files menu - you know, the one that pops up when you DL something - the file DLs with the icon looking like a blank piece of paper. Probably not important, but it sure doesn't look like something playable or executable."the file DLs with the icon looking like a blank piece of paper."
When the download window pops up type .wmv in the window before you click the download button or OK button.
If the above does not work then download the following FREE player:
Flip4Mac
If the above player does not play the .wmv file then please post the URL and/or link of this file for us to test it out for you. -

This is a great question, at least for me. I've often wondered about it. I run Windows on my Mac with Parallels.
I never thought about what you've asked, so I asked Google: "can parallels or vmware run earlier mac os x versions on a later mac os x" without quotes.
Here's the first link that I saw that seemed to be on point:
http://www.macworld.com/article/2014336/one-mac-two-versions-of-os-x.html
A quick scan notes two approaches; get a new external drive, or use virtual software like Parallels or VMware. It mentions a no-no about running Snow Leopard (OS X 10.6) in a virtualizer, but it goes on to say that 10.6 Server is OK. The article recommends a link to another article that compares VMware vs. Parallels.
The real "trick" might be finding a legal copy of OS X 10.6 SERVER, or 10.5 or earlier.
HTH

I've never had this problem before. It only affects Photoshop CS6 and CS5 that I have installed. I'm running MAC OS 10.9.5
I have three printers and HP and two Epsons, and I get this dialogue when trying to print from Photoshop CS6 or CS5.
There was an error opening your printer. Printing functions will not be available until you have selected a printer and reopened any documents.
Other applications print fine on all three printers. I tried deleting the Photoshop Prefs numerous times without results.
Does anyone have an answer for this?
Thanks.Have you printed to this printer from 10.10 before? If so, check your connections.

keep getting "general installation error" message Mac OSX 10.8.5/Safari 6.0.5 Followed all the instructions for uninstalling and clean installing. Just wont install
Make sure you have it set to "show hidden files"
Check BOTH places and you have to restart Finder
Press "Quit This" and then go to the Finder Dock icon and right click it
Select "Open"
Open TIme Machine
Go back to September 28 or earlier.
You'll see the mach_kernel file in the Mac HD directory
(I can't show it in the TM because screenshots don't work while it's open but here it is in my MAc HD)
Right click it and select "Restore to"
Then, when it goes back to Finder, choose the Mac HD directory and click OK.
It will place the mach_kernel back where it was and you can install software again
DON'T FORGET to go back and hide your files (and restart Finder) again, or you'll have a mess with the clutter of hidden files everywhere. -
I was uploading 655 images from my Nikon D300S to aperture, all was going fine, went to make a coffee and came back to find Aperture had quit and this message was on the screen ––
There was an error opening the database for the library “/Users/james/Pictures/Aperture Library.aplibrary”.
–– when I now try to open aperture I always get the same message and it won't open.
Any help would be greatly appreciated
Aperture 3.4.5 and OSX 10.8.5Thanks William Lloyd and IeonieDF
First opened First Aid by holding down alt and cmd while double clicking Aperture
Tried Repairing Permissions and repairing Database in First Aid but neither worked –– so then did a 'Rebuild Database' and I'm back in action
Thanks for taking an interest guys -
Error opening URL-local files-mac
I'm using a var and an Array code on an empty move clip. The code is set on an "Actions" layer. The code checks good. All files are on my desktop.
When I test movie I get 'Error opening URL 'file:///Andrea/Users/user/Desktop/BosigerWk6/swfs/one.swf'
I'm on Mac running CS3. Flash setting is set to "Access local files only" I searched hours for a solution to this problem.
Please help. Here's the code:
//your swf list can be anything and any length. I named them one two three so you can easily test that it works
var swfList:Array = new Array("one.swf", "two.swf", "three.swf", "four.swf", "five.swf", "six.swf", "seven.swf", "eight.swf", "nine.swf", "ten.swf", "eleven.swf", "twelve.swf", "thirteen.swf", "fourteen.swf", "fifteen.swf", "sixteen.swf", "seventeen.swf", "eighteen.swf", "nineteen.swf", "twenty.swf");
var i:Number = 0;
loadMovieNum(swfList[i], 1);
//where next button has an instance name of 'nextBtn'
nextBtn.onRelease = function(){
i++;
if(i > swfList.length - 1){
i = 0;
trace(swfList[i]);
//your load funtion here like loadMovieNum(swfList[i], 1); or instance name.loadMovie(swfList[i]);
//where previous button has an instance name of 'prevBtn'
prevBtn.onRelease = function(){
i--;
if(i < 0 ){
i = swfList.length - 1;
trace(swfList[i]);
//your load funtion here like loadMovieNum(swfList[i], 1); or instance name.loadMovie(swfList[i]);
Thanks you so much,
Andrea BosigerI had a problem to test my movies locally in Flash Professional CS5, too. When I turned off the encryption on my Mac, the problem went away.

Trouble with Opening CS5.5 docs
Hi,
I've been working with ID forever, and for the first time I'm having difficulties opening CS5.5 docs on a brand new iMac runinng OS X 10.8.3.
It seems that when it does it's "checking" (for errors, missing fonts and links etc.) it keeps beachbaling. Then it looks like it OK, then it beachballs again. and again. and again.
Once (after 4-5 minutes [!] per file) the file actually opens, everything is quick and smooth.
Anybody have any ideas? It really bums out our workflow.
Thanks,

Re: Can't open CS5.5 in CS6 (branched)
(Branched this thread from Can't open CS5.5 in CS6)
I have the same problem. I've been working with CS5.5 for 1 year. Know, I've upgrade to CS6 and I can't open my CS5.5 files.
This files are mine (not of a partner), I've made it so I can't understand whats wrong. I can open some CS5.5 files.
I think it's an Adobe problem.
I'm gonna try to see what kind of fonts have my documents.It's very difficult to get useful error reports under Windows.
Your report seems to suggest something to do with hyperlinks:
Sig[3].Name=Nombre del módulo con erroresSig[3].Value=HYPERLINKS.RPLN
But it is hard to say.
If I try to uninstall and use the CS Cleaner tool?
Go ahead. It will not hurt. I do not know if it will help. But it will do no harm.
Can you export your CS5.5 file to IDML in CS5, and then open the IDML in CS6?
Can you try to narrow the problem? You can try working on a copy of the file in CS5.5 and deleting/removing parts until you can determine what causes the crash in CS6. You mention hyperlinks and cross-references, so they may be a place to start.

Help, I had aperture open and working on a image and did not have a battery in and bumped the power off. As a result it will not open my master, it is locked. when I try to open that Library it says There was an error opening the database for the library. I have tried every thing. I updated the other libr but now it will not open the main to update. What do I do?
Try starting Aperture with the command and option keys held down. You'll get 3 options.
Try each, starting at the top, in order, checking after each to see if it fixes the issue. -
When I attempt to open a PDF file I saved from a website using Safari, I get the message "There was an error opening this document. The file is damaged and could not be repaired." When I save the same PDF file using FireFox it opens up immediately. Is there any way to correct this problem with Safari?
Back up all data.
Triple-click the line of text below to select it, the copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C):
/Library/Internet Plug-ins
In the Finder, select
Go ▹ Go to Folder
from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-G. Paste into the text box that opens (command-V), then press return.
From the folder that opens, remove any items that have the letters “PDF” in the name. You may be prompted for your login password. Then quit and relaunch Safari, and test.
The "Silverlight" web plugin distributed by Microsoft can also interfere with PDF display in Safari, so you may need to remove it as well, if it's present.
If you still have the issue, repeat with this line:
~/Library/Internet Plug-ins
If you don’t like the results of this procedure, restore the items from the backup you made before you started. Relaunch Safari again. -
