Error 50 when attempting to copy iTunes folder

I back up iTunes by simply dragging and dropping the folder to another hard drive. Recently, however, I came across an "Error 50" glitch, which pops up after just a few seconds of copying. I've seen this error message related to other things, such as downloading from iTunes or transferring tunes to Windows, but I sure don't have a clue what it means in this instance. Any thoughts out there.
TIA

Hey spinphd,
According to iTunes, Error -50 is an issue concerning the purchase of videos via the iTunes store.

  • Error 36 when trying to copy itunes folder

    I am not very computer savvy and have searched for some sort of solution to this issue.  I have an ext. HD western digital and since mavericks I have had issues accessing this drive.  It is very slow.  So slow that it really doesn't work at all and I can't seem to copy files off of it anymore.  Before mavericks I put my itunes folder on this drive to save some valuable space on my imac and now can't access my music or movies in itunes.  I have tried to relocate this folder to another ext HD but I keep getting the following error. "the finder cannot complete the operation because some data in "download.m4a" cannot be read or written (error code-36)". What if any is the easiest way to make itunes a useable app again with my music and movies?  Many thanks for any help.

  • 34BEC24-E596-4e99-A191-52C6199 Error when attempting to update iTunes

    This is the error code I get when trying to update iTunes on a Win 8.1 64 bit PC. Also unable to uninstall iTunes.Doesn't matter if download directly or select update.

    So right now, when you search programs in the start menu, nothing from Apple is left?
    C:\Program Files\Bonjour
    C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\
    C:\Program Files\iTunes\
    C:\Program Files\iPod\
    (type these into the windows search box)

  • I/O error when attempting to copy previously burned DVD

    Copied and successfully burned a DVD when running MacOS 10.5.? using SimplyBurns. Currently running 10.6.2. Attempted to make copy of the previous successful copy using Disk Utility New Image command (Image format: compressed, Encryption: none) Get the Creating image "xxx.dmg" message and the desktop DVD icon disappears and name of the DVD displayed in the Disk Utilities side bar grays (Am able to select the grayed name and choose the Disk Utility Mount command to remount the DVD to be copied while the image creation progress bar continues). Result is the same whether the DVD is remounted or not: "Unable to create xxx.dmg (Input/Output error)"
    Get same result if I copy the contents of the DVD to the desktop and move that file to my burn folder. And then the same result if I use the disk utility SimplyBurns (version 416 (416)) 1:1 Copy procedure. The technical error message is as follows:
    Burning Failed
    "DiscOperation_ErrorKey" = "HdiUtilError_CreateFailed";
    "DiscOperation_RealTaskDurationKey" = 1564.301000118256;
    "DiscOperation_ReturnCodeKey" = 1;
    Have read 302925, "iDVD: Troubleshooting issues with burning disks" and "Factors that affect writing to or reading from optical media". The Matshita UJ-846 drive has an apparently later firmware version, but I don,t know how to install it and don't know whether that will screw up communications with MacOS.

    Hi,
    If you still have the original footage of the movie you could go back into iDVD and instead of "burn disc" you could "save as disc image" and burn multiple copies from it.

  • HT1751 unable to copy iTunes folder from mac to external hard drive, says hard drive can't be modified

    when attempting to copy itunes folder to external hard drive, response is unable to copy file, hard drive can't be modified. What does that mean and how to I use external HD to transfer itunes library to new PC?

    The drive is probably formated as NTFS, and your Mac doesn't have an NTFS write driver installed. Why not transfer the folder over your network?

    Right click the filename that won't download and selsct 'Get Info'. Look at the file path, does it have a //?// in it? That is a problem with Amazon downloads that prevent iTunes from finding the file. Use 'Add Folder' to add the album to your library and try syncing it again
