Error -5000 when updating to IOS 5

When trying to upgrade my Ipad to IOS 5, I get an error (-5000) while the backup is being done. Also it says proceeding with the upgrade will
erase all of the contents of my Ipad.  Is this a known issue? should I proceed?

I'm getting the exact same issue?  What does the -5000 error mean anyway, and why does apple not give any help as to why this error is occurring?

  • Error -43 when updating to ios 5

Updated to iTunes 10.5 this morning.  When updating my iPhone 4 (4.3.3) I received the following error:
"An error occurred while backing up the iphone (-43).  Would you like to continue to update this iPhone?  Continuing will result in the loss of all contents on this phone."
Error -43 is not listed on the support page.
My iPhone has a recent backup from a sync today.  What will happen if I select "continue" and lose the contents on my iphone?

Why is there not a reply from Apple.   Please tell us if we should continue or wait for YOU to fix bug.  What is the delay as your install says this could take hours.

I've Done every Thing Mentioned Here Still Having the same Problem; I have Iphone 3gs with IOS 5.1

You can't do that if your device is not jailbroken, if it is jailbroken then you can use the iFaith tool. Have a look at the below link which explains clearly which devices are eligible for upgrading and which are not, article also explains the usage of iFaith tool.

Follow the steps to troubleshoot security software. Often, uninstalling third-party security software will resolve these errors.
There may be third-party software that modifies your default packet size in Windows by inserting a TcpWindowSize entry into your registry. An incorrectly set default packet size can cause these errors. Contact the manufacturer of the software that installed the packet size modification for assistance or follow this article by Microsoft: How to reset Internet Protocol (TCP/IP).
Verify that access to ports 80 and 443 are allowed on your network.
Verify that communication to albert.apple.com or phobos.apple.com isn't blocked by a firewall or other Internet security setting.
Discard the .ipsw file, open iTunes and attempt to download the update again. See the steps under "Advanced steps > Rename, move, or delete the iOS software file (.ipsw)" below for file locations.
Restore your device while connected to a different network.
    Restore using a different computer.

If you are currently running an iOS lower than 5.0, connect the iPad to the computer, open iTunes. Then select the iPad under the Devices heading on the left, click on the Summary tab and then click on Check for Update.
Tip - If connected to your computer, you may need to disable your firewall and anitvirus software temporarily.  Then download and install the iOS update. Be sure and backup your iPad before the iOS update. After you update an iPad (except iPad 1) to iOS 6.x, the next update can be installed via wifi (i.e., not connected to your computer).

Does anyone know how to solve this tiresome problem, please!?? The update is downloaded upto 723.5MB, and is required upto 723,6MB, then the error message pops out! Tnx.

I have a quick wifi connection (Mac shows it as about 35 megabits) but I couldn't get the 5.0.1 OTA to work, I had to do it via cable to my computer's iTunes - and as I was already on iOS 5 it was only a small download, basically the same size as the OTA size.
As the original poster is talking about a 730 meg download then I assume that they are still on iOS 4.3.5 or below and can therefore only download via their computer's iTunes - you need to be on iOS 5+ before you get the OTA option.

  • Error message when updating Itunes...can not open Itunes program

I am recieving error message when updating Itunes for my computer.  The error message reads "MSVCR80.dll is missing and the other error message reads Error 7  (Windows error 126)"  I can not open my Itunes.  I have reloaded the Itunes onto my computer but still have the same error messages.  Please help.

Click here and follow the instructions. You may need to completely remove and reinstall iTunes and all related components, or run the process multiple times; this won't normally affect its library, but that should be backed up anyway.
