Error (-5000) while trying to upgrade to iOS 5

Can anyone help fix this problem?

Check out the other threads, this seems to be a problem with firewall and/or antivirus software.  I disabled my Windows 7 firewall and was able to upgrade just find.  Others have had to disable antivirus software (Norton) but I didn't have to go this route.
Hope this helps

  • I'm getting error 5000 while trying to backup my phone before I can run an update

I'm getting error 5000 while trying to backup my phone so I can run an update. I'm getting a message that says my back up is corrupt. What does that mean and how can I fix it?

    Hi
This is an easy Q: to set - but there is no simple and plain answer only a lot of more or less plausibly suggestions.
Error -50 = paramErr  Error in user parameter list
Can there be any external hard disks - if so How is/are it/they formatted ?
If so it Must be Mac OS Extended (hfs) if used for Video.
UNIX/DOS/FAT32/Mac OS Exchange - works for most but not for VIDEO.
What this means in Your situation is above me.
    • free space on internal boot hard disk 11Gb is on the limit to work when You select Export and might be it.
Video used - there are several video formats/codecs and iMovie can not use all of them, they evolve to fast.
    • So try to find out by opening a raw video in QuickTime-player and then open Inspector (cmd+I) and read
    Video Format/Codec: nnnnnnnn
    What does it read ?
    Pictures
    • in what format ? .jpg, .bmp, .tif, else ?
    Audio
    • from where/what format ? iTunes, .avi, .mp3, .aiff, else ?
I convert all audio to .aiff - in iTunes I burn out as an Audio-CD .aiff (not .mp3) and use the files on this in my movie projects.
Some times it's needed to trash the "com.apple.iMovie.plist" file in You USER-Library/Preferences (not Library on Root level (when opening Macintosh HD) - but the one in Your home folder.
Many users has not observed that there are TWO libraries.
    • Library - at root level
    • Library - in user/account folder - THIS IS THE ONE to look into

I fixed the problem.. but it was very, very strange. I had a very long section for credits and set the line spacing to 1.0.. for some reason this caused it. I removed it, and it worked fine. I put it back, and I couldn't preview or play the video.
I don't know why that could cause that big of a problem, but it did..

  • IPhone 4S stuck in recovery mode while trying to upgrade to iOS 7.0.4

I ran into the issues with my iPhone 4S while trying to upgrade it it iOS 7.0.4 OTA and I have tried everything I can to recover it but no luck. I have tried different USB ports, different PCs altogether with av tuned off, and finally a MAC Pro this morning. I am stuck and miserable. I did everything that a number of forums have mentioned in terms of switching off anti-virus, clearing off host files, checking windows and mac firewall settings, setting the phone to DFU mode and trying over - you name it.
The error I run into most half way through the upgrade is "Unknown Error (29)". According to Apple (http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3694), it has to do with anti-virus but last night I spent 2 hours building an image with no av or firewall running and tried and still ran into the error. Even tried "Fix it" from Microsoft to clear off the host file configurations as prescribed.
Any help is welcome. Much needed.

Hi, sorry for my late reply.
FIXED!!!! For me anyway, and I hope for you!
So I tried to update to ios 7 and after downloading the software itunes tried to update my iPad 3. I recieved the error 3004 and was stuck in the "Connect to iTunes" screen and
could not get out of it. Completely annoyed!
But then I remembered something from when I used to fiddle with iphones. I opened a program I had called TinyUmbrella, which can be used to force boot out of recovery mode (the
    "connect to itunes" screen).
My ipad was still connected to itunes and in recovery mode. I opened TinyUmbrella, selected my ipad (which was just shown by the serial number), then clicked "Exit Recovery" and
BAM!!! It immediately kicked my out of the recovery screen and started my ipad back up to my home screen.
Now, my ipad was still on 6.1.3 since the update to ios 7 had failed. But I didn't care, my ipad was fully functional again just like I left it before. Thank God for
TinyUmbrella! Here's the CNET link for TinyUmbrella if you need it:

  • HT5052 I keep getting an error code while trying to upload the IOS 5.1 update to my Ipad 2

I keep getting an error code while trying to update my Ipad2 to iOS 5.1
I have tried though syncing to my Mac and by itself

First thing to try is a reboot of your iPad. Press and hold the Home and Sleep buttons simultaneously ignoring the red slider until the Apple logo appears. Let go of the buttons and let the iPad restart.
Then try to update at Settings > General > Software Update
The update servers have been extremely busy this week so keep trying. It took me several attempts before my iPad began the update process.

  • Getting Error (-50) while trying to update to iOS 5.

I'm using an iPhone 4 running iOS 4.3.5. Tried to install iOS 5, but received the following error after about 5 minutes attempting to back up:
An error occurred while backing up this iPhone (-50). Would you like to continue to update this iPhone? Continuing will result in the loss of all contents on this iPhone.
Of course, I don't want that. The phone has never had upgrade problems before and it's never been jailbroken. Any ideas? Mac is running 10.7.2 and iTunes 10.5. iTunes is set up for encrypted backups. Should that be turned off? It syncs fine.

Figured it out. Seems to be when the MobileSync folder is symlinked to another drive. I have an SSD+HDD in my MacBook Pro and kept my backup data on the HDD. After deleting the symlink and copying the MobileSync folder back to the SSD, it worked. I should have updated this earlier, but the Apple forums were extremely slow for me today.

  • Error-19 while trying to upgrade to v.7.4.1

In Airport Utility, when trying to upgrade to the 7.4.1 firmware (from 7.3.2), I keep getting an Error-19 message: *An error occurred while reading the configuration*. Make sure your Apple wireless device is plugged in and in range of your computer or connected via Ethernet and try again (-19)".
This is despite that it is in range and it is connected and working properly. I have not tried with a direct (wired) Ethernet connection. But after reading the many problems with v.7.4.1, I'm not sure I want to update to this version. Now, everytime I turn on the MBP or switch user accounts, the Airport Utility turns on and I get an an annoying message that there is a problem with my base station requiring the update. The green status light on the on-screen advisory has now turned to amber. Working off an Airport Extreme/ 1Tb TC.
Any clues to returning to a green status light display in my Airport Utility dialogue box?

I had the same problem, ended up just resetting the cable modem and Airport by unplugging both and letting them boot up again. The green light is back and it is still running with the old firmware.

  • Error (-5000) while updating iPhone 4 to iOS 5??!

While my phone is backing up, before iTunes installs iOS 5, I get error (-5000) and it says if I continue, I will lose all the content on my phone.  HELP!!!  Thanks in advance!!!!!

Well, I truly do appreciate the answers posted on this issue... "but" for Mac users who don't use anti-virus software, this issue is still unresolved.    This is the very first time that I've experienced a software update from Apple that didn't work.  Doesn't Apple test their software before releasing it?  I mean, this can make them look pretty bad in the public's eye.  Hopefully there's a software update that will fix this soon.  I've searched online for a resolution and have discovered that there are many people who are experiencing this same problem.

  • Error 3200 while trying to update to iOS 5! Help??

I'm trying to update to iOS 5, and every time it reaches as far as extracting the software and prepping the phone for the update. Then it stops and gives me an error 3200. Any fixes to this?

It worked for me after I disabled the Passcode, turned off WiFi and Cell networks, closed all apps (hit the home button twice and then hold on an app to bring up the close button). After all that power down and power up. Worked for me then.
However it is probably more related to as others have said the sheer volume of hits.

  • Error 1654 when trying to upgrade to IOS 5.

Get the same error when teying to upgrade my iphone and ipad2 to IOS5, The error is 1654. What do I do to correct this problem?

I got the 1654 error when trying to update both of our iPhones via USB to iTunes.  It took a few tries, but eventually, this procedure worked.  I let everything sync and imported the photos/videos that hadn't been imported to date.  Then I shutdown iPhoto and iTunes.  I restarted them and as soon as the iTunes window came up, I plugged in the iPhone.  I was then able to update without doing a restore.

  • I get an error message while trying tu upgrade iPhone4

    Hi,
I have bought an used iPhone (not new but sill under warranty), and when I try tu upgrade firmware through itunes (from 4.3 to 4.3.3) I get this message "This device is't eligible for the requested build"
What can I do to get this last firmware ?
    Thanks

Problem might be on you Mac, you need to edit your hosts file and remove any mention to gs.apple.com.
    Editing the hosts file
Editing the hosts file in Mac OS X – Leopard, is a pretty easy task, especially if you are familiar with the terminal.
    Step 1 – Open the Terminal.app
Either by start typing Terminal on the Spotlight, or by going into Applications -> Utilities -> Terminal.
Step 2 – Open the hosts file
Open the hosts by typing on the Terminal that you have just opened:
    1
    $ sudo nano /private/etc/hosts
Type your user password when prompted.
Step 3 – Edit the hosts file
The hosts file contains some comments (lines starting with the # symbol), as well as some default hostname mappings (e.g. 127.0.0.1 – localhost).
You can navigate the file using the arrow keys.
Step 4 – Save the hosts file
When done editing the hosts file, press control-o to save the file.
Press enter on the filename prompt, and control-x to exit the editor.
Step 5 – Flush the DNS cache
On Leopard you can issue a simple Terminal command to flush the DNS cache, and have your host file changes to take immediate effect:
    1
    $ dscacheutil -flushcache
    You can retry your upgrade...

  • Getting an error message (-5000) while trying to backup my iphone4 that says i will lose all content if i continue

getting an error message while trying to backup my IPhone 4 that says i will lose all content if i continue. error message is (-5000). what does this mean and how do i fix the problem?

Well, when you click on "update" and it goes partway through and then says it can't continue that does look somewhat error-like to me. :-).  I did do a synch when I first plugged  the iPad into my desktop, but had to upgrade iTunes and reboot before upgrading the iPad OS, so everything should be backed up.  I hope!  I don't know how to check on whether things like my appointments or files that I have created get saved in a synch.  Selecting each of my pictures and emailing them to myself is an option, I guess.
I am new to the apple world and the thought of losing six month's worth of stuff is intimidating.  If only I knew which things would get lost, I'd be able to work with it.
    Thanks!

I am getting "An unknown error has occurred (3014)" on my iPad2 while trying to upgrade to iOS6. What do I need to do to fix this?

    Hi apiccolo5,
Thanks for visiting Apple Support Communities.
See these articles for steps that can help you resolve the issue you're seeing:
iOS: Unable to update or restore
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1808
iTunes: Specific update-and-restore error messages and advanced troubleshooting
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3694
    Error 20, 21, 23, 26, 28, 29, 34, 36, 37, 40
These errors typically occur when security software interferes with the restore and update process. Follow Troubleshooting security software issues to resolve this issue. In rare cases, these errors may be a hardware issue. If the errors persist on another computer, the device may need service.
Also, check your hosts file to verify that it's not blocking iTunes from communicating with the update server. See iTunes: Advanced iTunes Store troubleshooting—follow steps under the heading Blocked by configuration (Mac OS X / Windows) > Rebuild network information > Mac OS X > The hosts file may also be blocking the iTunes Store. If you have software used to perform unauthorized modifications to the iOS device, uninstall this software prior to editing the hosts file to prevent that software from automatically modifying the hosts file again on restart.
    Best,
    Jeremy
