Error 5002 when trying to redeem a gift album

My friend brought me an album off iTunes, however when I click redeem to download it, itunes says 'We cannot complete you itunes store request, an unknown error occured (5002).'
Doe's anyone know what could be wrong.. or is maybe the store down at the moment?
Thank you!

It's a temporary error. Just try again.

I get error 5002 when trying to redeem gift cards, what can I do to fix this?

    http://store.apple.com/us
I have been trying to fix this myself and just found a way tonight. This started happening after I downloaded a new version. I tried several other approaches and was unsuccessful until I was directed to the support website.  I searched for 5002 error.  I chose specific conditions and alert message.  Then chose "Error 5002" which gave a little detail.
Basically I had to go to the above site and change my password and some other account information.  It didn't work when I tried in my actual ITUNES application.  I think because my account was so old and they upgraded some security items like stronger passwords etc., so the old stuff was no longer good enough.  I have now redeemed two gift cards.  I hope it helps.

Why am i getting error 5002 when trying to redeem a UV movie purchase?

If one is downloading directly to the iPhone via WiFi, it doesn't matter what version of iTunes is on the computer.
I decided to sync my phone to Outlook via iTunes.  First thing, iTunes discovered that 7.0.3 was not on my phone.  It asked if i wanted to install it.  I said, "yes", and VOILA!! 7.0.3 is now installed on my iPhone.
So therein is the answer.  Have no idea what bug is in there to keep it from loading to some phones directly via WiFi, but obviously, it is something!!
There is no bug.  While you can update your iOS via wi-fi, it's recommended to do so via USB & iTunes.  Depending on your wi-fi connection & singal strength, you can get errors.  That's not a function specifically of the device.

  • Error 5002 when attempting to redeem a gift card

I keep getting the 5002 error. This is not associated with a certain purchase or download. I'm actually trying to redeem points from a gift card. Although I'm already logged in iTunes will prompt for a login and password anyway (this is presumably what it supposed to I don't think that's part of the problem). After I enter my login and password the error will show up. Apparently however long and still seems to work but when I click on the link redeem after the first login attempt I simply get the same error.
This is different from when I enter the wrong password, because if I do so it will actually tell me the password is incorrect. Apparently the error only shows up when I use the correct password.
Please do not suggest the following solutions because I have already tried them; they have not worked:
    -Restarting the computer
-Deleting all items on the wish list (there weren't any items on it to begin with)
-Changing account information (change/remove credit card, in this case I removed it)
-Downloading and installing the most recent version of iTunes
-Resetting the router by unplugging and plugging it back in
-Deleting the iTunes Library Extras.itdb and iTunes Library Genius.itdb files.
Also please don't suggest uninstalling and reinstalling iTunes because I don't want to do this. The only reference to this fix  I've seen so far online seems to indicate that doesn't work anyway.

I had the same issue with a gift card I got for Christmas. I ended up redeeming it on my ipod touch and it worked that way, and I was still able to actually buy the music from my computer. Not exactly a solution, but at least you can redeem your card until something more permanent comes along.

Why do I keep getting an account has been disabled message when trying to redeem a gift card?  Have gone back through account settings and don't see any problems with the account.  I have both mine and my daughter's account under mine.

See http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2446.  If resetting the password doesn't fix things, you'll probably have to contact iTunes store support for assistance: http://www.apple.com/emea/support/itunes/contact.html.

  • Error 5002 when trying to look at iTunes Plus

I just bought a new MBP, and since I used my education discount, I got a $100 gift card to use in the App Store/iTunes/etc. I have a bunch of songs I bought back when iTunes had DRM, so I was going to use this money to upgrade some of those purchases to iTunes Plus. However, whenever I click on "iTunes Plus" under Quick Links, I get a popup telling me that I can't access iTunes Plus because "Unknown Error 5002 Ocurred"
I've looked up the problem, and I've tried things like changing/resetting my billinb info, re-installing iTunes, and resetting my internet connection, but I have not had any luck so far. Does anyone know how to solve this?

    Hi Sanjit
Thanks very much. Yes, a bit of online research helped me to track down
the problem. It was some redirects in the .htaccess file in the root
directory (this site is located in a subdirectory). All fixed now!

  • Getting 1202 error code in itunes when trying to redeem itunes gift card

Just installed the latest itunes.  I am trying to redeem a itunes gift card and keep getting error 1202.  Does anyone know why?

I have same issue.  I reported it thru Apple's Help "ExpressLane" but have yet to hear back.

  • I am getting iTunes "error 5002" when trying to sign in on my computer, and cannot sign into my account on my iPod. What's wrong?

    Hello!
When I try to sign in to my iTunes account on both my computer, an error pops up saying,
"We could not complete your iTunes store request. An unknown error occured (5002)
There was an error in the iTunes store. Please try again later."
When I trying signing into my account on my iPod, I get a message saying,
    "Cannot connect to iTunes store"
I have seen across the internet that this has happened while trying to purchase things, but I can not even sign in!
I have also seen a case just like this, but many, many people were having that problem at the same time.
It seems like right now, only I am having this issue.
I can sign into my mother's iTunes account perfectly fine. ( I was using her account for a while, until I decided to switch to my own)
I have had an apple ID for a while now, but never have used it for iTunes.
I can sign into the "my apple id" website perfectly fine, just not iTunes on my iPod or computer!
I can not even sign into the appstore! (When trying to sign into the app store, it just says an unknown error occured, it doesn't say 5002)
    What shall I do?

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
    Select
    /var/log ▹ appstore.log
from the hierarchical list on the left. If you don't see that list, select
    View ▹ Show Log List
from the menu bar. Then select the messages from the last installation or update attempt, starting from the time when you initiated it. If you're not sure when that was, click the Clear Display button in the toolbar of the Console window and then try the installation again.
Copy the messages to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message (command-V).
If there are runs of repeated messages, post only one example of each. Don’t post many repetitions of the same message.
When posting a log extract, be selective. Don't post more than is requested.
Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Important: Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Edit it out by search-and-replace in a text editor before posting.

  • Error 5002 when trying to update applications?

I click on the applications tab on itunes, and see 5 updates available at the bottom right, I click that link and am presented with error 5002. Why is this?

AOL accounts in general seem to have a lot of problems with iTunes. I too have issues when trying to update my apps. I tried to sign out and sign back in with my Apple ID instead, and it told me I had no available updates under that account.
When I tried to sign back into my AOL iTunes account, it told me that the screen name had never previously been used with iTunes before. After scratching my head, I tried to sign back in again - this time typing my username in lowercase letters, and sure enough, it suddenly worked.
It seems that Apple has major issues managing AOL accounts on iTunes. Not only is the App Store screwed up for AOL account owners, but apparently it handles usernames as case sensitive, which is definitely not right.
Unfortunately I think most Apple software engineers are too busy trying to fix MobileMe to give this issue much attention. I'm sure somebody must've reported it by now...

  • Why do I keep getting an "error 5002" when trying to purchase my wish list?

Why do I keep getting a "error 5002" while attempting to purchase my iTunes wishlist?

I've been trying to figure this out for the past four days myself. I tried everything I could to reset my account information since most of the forums indicated the problem was with my payment information. That didn't ring true for me because I regularly make purchases with no problem. In my case, the problem was that one of the songs I was trying to purchase had been purchased previously. I found this out when I went to each song in my wish list individually and hit the buy button. Surprisingly, each song was purchased and downloaded successfully. When I got to the sixth song or so in my wishlist, iTunes told me that I had already purchased that song and asked if I wanted to download it again. I said yes. I then hit the buy all button for the remaining songs (the behavior that had not worked previously and generated the 5002 error) and the download happened properly.
I realize that the 5002 error seems to be generated by multiple issues, but that is what worked for me. Perhaps you could try the same approach and see what happens if you haven't already resolved your issue. Good luck.

  • Error 5002 when trying to rent movie

I've never had problems renting movies from the iTunes Store, but just tried to rent Footlose and it keeps giving me Unknown Error 5002. Any idea what the problem might be? I have an iMac, 10.7.3. I'm trying to rent the SD version.
    Thanks,
    --Linda

That is the only logical conclusion. I have tried several times via ITunes and it never worked. Then I tried with my iPhone and I was able to rent a movie with no problems.
I doubt it would be fixed in the weekend. I sent an email to support about this error 5002.
I hope they will come back to me about it or maybe work on it soon enough.

  • Getting error 5002 when trying to purchase software update for 1st gen iPod Touch

The iPod Touch currently has iOS 2.2.1. I am trying to purchase the iOS 3.1 update by following the link on this support page: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2052
Upon signing in and agreeing to the terms of service I recieve error 5002. I have restored the iPod and the error still occurs. I have tried purchasing the update on multiple Apple accounts and on multiple computers, both Mac and PC with no success.
Any idea how to fix this?
    Thanks!

    Try this artilce.

It could be related to the errors than some users are seeing today and yesterday about checking billing address.
