Error 5002 when trying to rent movie

I've never had problems renting movies from the iTunes Store, but just tried to rent Footlose and it keeps giving me Unknown Error 5002. Any idea what the problem might be? I have an iMac, 10.7.3. I'm trying to rent the SD version.

That is the only logical conclusion. I have tried several times via ITunes and it never worked. Then I tried with my iPhone and I was able to rent a movie with no problems.
I doubt it would be fixed in the weekend. I sent an email to support about this error 5002.
I hope they will come back to me about it or maybe work on it soon enough.

Anyone else getting this error when attempting to rent a movie? We also get "an unable to connect to itunes" message when attemping to rent a movie from our Apple TV.

What movie are you trying to rent? I am trying to get "The Orphanage", and am seeing this error. I can't rent either regular or HD version, either from AppleTV, nor from iTunes. I cannot purchase this film, either. However I can purchase music, and also can purchase TV shows, and could rent another HD movie title with no issues.
iTunes tech support had me reenter my payment information, but this did not solve the issue. Any other ideas?

For the past two days I have been getting the following message when I try to rent a movie on Apple TV: "This item is currently being modified. Please try again later." Any ideas? Connects to my network with no problems. (Netflix streams fine.)

They could be updating the servers or fixing something give them some time and try again

There is no bug. While you can update your iOS via wi-fi, it's recommended to do so via USB & iTunes. Depending on your wi-fi connection & singal strength, you can get errors. That's not a function specifically of the device.

I have been trying to fix this myself and just found a way tonight. This started happening after I downloaded a new version. I tried several other approaches and was unsuccessful until I was directed to the support website. I searched for 5002 error. I chose specific conditions and alert message. Then chose "Error 5002" which gave a little detail.
Basically I had to go to the above site and change my password and some other account information. It didn't work when I tried in my actual ITUNES application. I think because my account was so old and they upgraded some security items like stronger passwords etc., so the old stuff was no longer good enough. I have now redeemed two gift cards. I hope it helps.

Go to Settings>General>Usage>Storage. Let all of the apps load in the window. You can see how much storage you have used and how much you have left. You will need about twice the size of the download of free storage in order to be able to download the movie. Also, the iOS will not let you use every bit of available storage on the device.
You can delete content in there if needed, but if you sync with iTunes it's a good idea to transfer purchased into iTunes and backup your iPad before you delete content. If you use iCloud only, backup with iCloud before you delete any content.

Error 5002 when trying to look at iTunes Plus

I just bought a new MBP, and since I used my education discount, I got a $100 gift card to use in the App Store/iTunes/etc. I have a bunch of songs I bought back when iTunes had DRM, so I was going to use this money to upgrade some of those purchases to iTunes Plus. However, whenever I click on "iTunes Plus" under Quick Links, I get a popup telling me that I can't access iTunes Plus because "Unknown Error 5002 Ocurred"
I've looked up the problem, and I've tried things like changing/resetting my billinb info, re-installing iTunes, and resetting my internet connection, but I have not had any luck so far. Does anyone know how to solve this?

Thanks very much. Yes, a bit of online research helped me to track down
the problem. It was some redirects in the .htaccess file in the root
directory (this site is located in a subdirectory). All fixed now!

I error is related tot he message which you get "No more handles".
This definitelly means that there is a bug and old files are not closed , thus the number of handles on OS level is exceeded.
The exact way to debug the "handles" leak is with applying SAP JVM Profiler, using the I/O Analysis feature.

I was having the same problem until about 10 seconds ago... it finally allowed me to check for purchases and start downloading TV shows.

Trying to rent 'The Orphanage' on itunes U.S. store. Keep getting error 5002 - any ideas as to why this might be happening - any fixes? When I try to sign in to my iTunes account on both my computer, an error pops up saying,
"We could not complete your iTunes store request. An unknown error occured (5002)
There was an error in the iTunes store. Please try again later."
When I trying signing into my account on my iPod, I get a message saying,
"Cannot connect to iTunes store"
I have seen across the internet that this has happened while trying to purchase things, but I can not even sign in!
I have also seen a case just like this, but many, many people were having that problem at the same time.
It seems like right now, only I am having this issue.
I can sign into my mother's iTunes account perfectly fine. ( I was using her account for a while, until I decided to switch to my own)
I have had an apple ID for a while now, but never have used it for iTunes.
I can sign into the "my apple id" website perfectly fine, just not iTunes on my iPod or computer!
I can not even sign into the appstore! (When trying to sign into the app store, it just says an unknown error occured, it doesn't say 5002)
What shall I do?

Check your material master for a x-plant or plant specific material status.
This status is probably customized to prevent movements.
Obtain the person who has entered the status from material master change history and talk to them about what you are trying to do and if the status needs to be removed or you need to choose an alternative solution for your movement.

Error occuring when trying to download movie from apple tv

When ever I rent a movie from apple tv an error occurs when I go to downlaod it. The error just says that the movie cant download right now, try again later. Even after numerous attempts the movie still wont download. This had been happening for months and I've just been watching movies from netflix. I'm being charged for movies I can't even watch! How can I fix this problem?

First, what is your internet speed? www.speedtest.net
iTunes HD content requires 6mbps (SD would be 3mbps)
Netflix uses variable bit-rate so it simply degrades on slower connections
iTunes content waits to play until enough has buffered for playback without interupption
