Since updating OS to Mountain Lion from leopard, I get the following error message when trying to backup with time machine on external drive.  "Could not complete backup to media share.  The network backup disk does not support the required AFP features."  What are AFP features and how do I get Time Machine to backup to my current external backup?

This means that your NAS does not support the required encryption. Update your NAS to the latest firmware or ditch it and buy a Time Capsule (they are the most reliable when using TM).

    Hey Aarohead,
If, when trying to create an iPhone backup, iTunes displays an alert message and the backup fails, you'll want to follow along with the troubleshooting steps in this article and see if that resolves the issue:

  • Error Messages when trying to Backup Nokia Photos

I'm trying to backup Nokia Photos so I can transfer to a new PC.
I was on version 1.5.242 and got a simple error message after the initialisation that it couldn't backup .. no other explanation.
I downloaded and installed Version 1.6 and now I cam getting a bizarre error message that is about 3 pages long and refers to sql, database errors and all sorts of other gubbins that mean absolutely nothing to a standard user like myself.  I'm not totally computer illiterate but that message was way beyond my comprehension.
    Can anyone help?
Is there another way to transfer my files over to my new pc other than the non-functioning backup option?
    Thanks

  • Error -5000 when trying to backup/update iphone

what is the error? and any advice on how to fix it?

I had the -5000 error when trying to update the iPhone 4 to the 5.0 OS. Make sure you do a Sync for your iPhone first. The following worked for me: disable all antivirus and firewall settings, then on the iPhone turn OFF the location services setting (Location Services is located in Settings). Now click update in iTunes. Hope this helps. Worked like a charm for me. Don't forget to enable your antivirus and firewall when you have finished updating the iPhone.

  • Error Message When Trying to Use Phone As Modem

I have a BlackBerry Curve 9330 and use it to get online with my laptop. Recently I've been getting a connection failed message saying the specified port is not open when trying to connect. I have not changed my computer settings and do not know what to do about this aggravating problem.

You can't do that.  Instead, just remove "aaa new-model" from the config then try to deploy it.  Alternatively, you can try "merge mode," but that will send the whole config back to the device.

  • Why am i getting an error message when trying to backup my iphone

Getting an error message that iTunes can't synch ----phone because there was an error.

If you get the error "Backup not successful" and you've tried deleting the last backup and trying to back up manually without luck, try the following test:   Go to...
Settings>iCloud>Storage & Backup>manage Storage, tap your device name in the Backups section, then look under Backup options.  Turn off all apps from backup and then do a manual backup.  If that doesn't work, then this post will not help.  If the backup works, then go back to the app list and turn some on and try another backup.  If successful, keep repeating these steps.  If it fails at some point, then try to zero in on the one app that seems to make the backup fail.  (I had this problem and found one app failing, probably due to a corrupt data file.)
This process will take time, but if a backup works with no app data being used but clearly fails with the original settings, then somewhere in the mix of apps is a "bad" one.

  • Error 4480 When Trying To Backup To DVD

When I try to backup my entire iTunes library, 6622 songs, I get an error stating "The attempt to burn a disc failed. An unknown error occurred (4480). This happens when I try to backup anything to DVD.
Any ideas??? Even though I do have an external hard drive where I backup everything every night, I want to backup my songs to DVD because I have already had one external drive die on me and I lost a TON of songs.
    Thanks!

I have not received any responses to this issue. I haven't tried using different media, I never thought of that... I will try that tonight and let you know...

  • Error (261) when trying to backup purchases

I have a new computer with SATA HD and SATA DVD burner (lightscribe) and am having a problem backing up my library.
When I insert a blank CD or DVD and select backup... backup entire library... iTunes goes off and checks the library and starts its 'burn' but then the CD ejects and a message comes up:
"The attempt to burn a disc failed. An unknown error occured (261)."
I checked that the drive is compatible (it shows under preferences/advanced/burning) as suggested by the online support docs... and the burner works with Nero & Alcohol... and I have not had problems backing up in the past. The things that have changed recently are the new CD burner (Asus lightscribe) and upgrade to version 7.3.1 iTunes.
Can I assume that I can 'manually' backup my library by just copying the library to another hard drive ? I just copy my itunes folder off to the second drive ??
    Thank you all.

  • Unknown Error -8785 when trying to backup purchased media

    Hi all,
I did a search here and via Google and found a very old Apple Discussion entry regarding my current problem -- unfortunately, it wasn't really answered back then (with iTunes 7).
Problem is: iTunes 9's backup feature (burn all or purchased media to CD/DVD) doesn't work here. I checked to burn only bought items, iTunes thinks a while and then says that I'll need app. 3 DVDs. I insert the first one and almost immediately I get this nasty error -8785.
Here are two screenshots, one of the error message itself: http://www.dropbox.com/gallery/3748223/1/iTunesBackupError8785?h=2b1f8a
Clicking Retry doesn't work: the same error behaviour goes on and on...
(And I tried several different blank DVDs.)
One answer of the old posting here (http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=7171281) suggested not to use iTunes' backup feature. Well, that's not an answer to the question. Let's just assume I really want to make DVD backups despite the fact that hard disks last longer than CDs/DVDs.
What would be the solution? Is this an iTunes bug? Should I file a bug report to Apple?
It's the latest iTunes 9 running under Leopard 10.5.8 on my Dual G5 PowerMac.
    Thanks,
    Stefan.

    bump.

  • Virus on Hard Drive-Error Message When Trying to Backup Songs

I think I have finally figured out how to select all my songs including ones purchased through iTunes. When I click in the upper right with a CD-R, DVD-RW, CD-RW in the upper middle of iTunes I get the following error message:
    Disc Recording Not Found
What does this mean? As a test, I took a file and copied it directly to the CD and it worked fine on the CD-R.
Also, when I copy these songs onto the CD will it copy the artwork as well for my Nano?
HELP! I need to reformat asap.

  • Error ocurring when trying to Backup catalog in PSE 7

I am about to upgrade my OS and want to start fresh.  Obviously, I want to backup my PSE 7 catalog beforehand so I can restore it and not lose the thousands of tags, etc I have applied.  I have carefully followed the steps and even ran some utilities (Repair & Optimize) that didn't return any problems.  However, I keep getting and error that says "an error ocurred while writing to file.".  I am attempting to backup to an external HD that has plenty of room.
Any suggestions on what to try next or what could be causing this?  I reconnected all the images that I wanted to and removed any disconnected files that I didn't want from the catalog.  I have no idea what the problem could be.  I have plenty of memory and a fast processor.
Anyone out there that can help?

A number of people have reported this error message and have had trouble troubleshooting.  (PSE is notorious for uninformative error messages.)  A couple of things to check:
    - Make sure the file permissions on the external drive are set properly.  In Windows Explorer, try creating a couple of test folders, and then use another program like Notepad to try creating some test files in those folders.
    - What the external drive originally connected to an XP system and now connected to a Vista or Windows 7 system?  That can create obscure permissions problems.
    - Is the external drive formatted as as FAT32 or NTFS?  In Windows Explorer, navigate to Computer, right-click the external drive, and select Properties.
Note that you can do a backup using a third-party utility or by copying all your picture folders with Windows Explorer.  Make sure to also copy the catalog folder (do Help > System Info to find its location).  Doing a restore from such a backup is quite feasible, though it may take a little extra time.
