Error 6584

I am trying to set up my time capsule.  Bothced around witht the hook up.  I had the TC connected once, but now I get an error message 6584?
What does this mean?  I haven't backed anything up yet, so a reset wouldn't hurt my feelings.

Nevermind.  Found the solution in another discussion.  Pondini!

  • Time capsule error 6584

i was formatting my timecapsule with a 35 pass format when a huge blackout happened in my town and it didnt finish, the airport utility said that disk needed repair, when i enter time machine i cant do it because an errror window saying unexpected error -6584 took place, and i dont know what to do, i really dont care about my back ups i just want the time machine to be ready for the things i want it to do, (start over again with an empty disk so i can back up what i have in my macbook)
    how do i do this?

    Factory reset the TC..
Plug it into a computer by ethernet and turn off the wireless in the computer.. so this is completely isolated from the internet.. no other connection to the TC.. no other connection on the computer.
Open the airport utility and erase the hard disk.. quick erase this time.
A 35 pass erase would take aprox one month.. it is for when you have the launch codes for ICBM missles silos in your backyard.. not for standard use.. never ever do more than one pass. EVER!!
No luck! Then, if the TC is new enough get Apple to fix it under warranty or Applecare.
If no warranty or apple care left.. then pull out the hard disk and put it in a USB holder.. and redo the partition and format from a Mac. If it fails replace the drive.
Instructions here for removing the disk.

  • Time Machine error -6584 can't run the programme, using new time capsule. Help please!

Bought a new time capsule and it appears to be OK, my Macbook has backed up nicely. Tried to get my imac 27" intel to do the same. Can seee the capsule and can save to the capsule but Time Machine won't run. I just get the error message -6584 .... any ideas anyone?

The problem seems to be common. Time Machine won't start: i.e. "it"... or the "Stars Wars" thing...
The following process eliminated the "error -6584"
Brand new out of the box, 2TB Time Capsule 4th Gen, backed up my iMac 24/4GB/10.7.2 over ethernet with no problems or errors. Time Machine did several incementals over night while I slept. When I returned from work, ready to reimage the OS, I discovered TC hung on an hourly incremental. When I tried to re-establish connection, no dice (error -6584) .
Several attempts to open the volume failed. I could manage all the preferences and configure the Time Capsule. I just couldn't open the back up or start Time Machine (app).
I dropped the %HOSTNAME file from the archive folder in Finder into the Disk Utilities image window to verify and repair, but received "file in use".
Restarting ("reset") the TC oddly resulted in renaming the volume label to "Unamed".  I open Airport Utilities and renamed the archive folder to "Data" as before...
Now able to mount (login into) the volume... But it shows "--" in available volume space and no "Oldest" or "Latest" backups are displayed...  Not a good sign. Waiting for backup to start..... Looking for backup....
Odd, instead of failing now, it started an incremental. Done!
I am now able to open Time Machine (or that cool Star Wars thingy that takes you off somewhere) and review all the backups starting with the first one I created before I went to bed last night.
The question seems to be what created the problem. I suspect my iMac went to sleep (shut down HDD) in the middle of an incremental. That may have set the "in use" flag on the archive and OS X didn't know how to handle that when I woke the machine up.
I hope this helps, and corrects my problem permanently.

  • Time Machine Error 6584 Mountain Lion

I recently upgraded to Mountain Lion. I normally wait but Lion was getting slower and I was beginning to have more problems with it. Somehow in the process I lost my Iphoto Library. I easily found it in Time Machine and I was able to start the restore yesterday. Unfortunately it was a large file and would take over 10 hours to complete. I came into the office today to go ahead and get this done but now I am unable to get Time Machine working. I get the 6584 error. I tried the solutions I have seen on the internet but I am unable to "Option Click" on Time Machine. When I do it just tries to start Time Machine and I get the same error. Help!

Has your TimeMachine completed at least one full backup?

  • Time machine error 6584

Just upgraded to Mountain Lion. It had a problem and the Apple store did a wipe and install. I restored all my data and apps by ethernet from Time Capsule. I had to find and reinstall Java. Things appear to work ok except launching Time Machine gets a warning "Unexpected error occurred (error code -6584)." I've not yet recovered an old document so cannot say if it works.

Time Machine may have lost track of where your backups are.  Try just re-selecting your backups in the Time Machine preferences window.
If that doesn't help, the preferences file (where that and other info are kept) may be damaged.  Try a "full reset" per #A4 in Time Machine - Troubleshooting
If still no help, the backups may be damaged.  Try to Repair them, per #A5 in the same link.

  • What does error -6584 mean when trying to open time capsule?

I keep getting the -6584 error message and can't consistently connect to my Time Capsule. Who know what that means and why I can't connect with my Time Capsule?

Common error. Look at the previous discussions listed on the right side of this page under the heading "More Like This".

  • Timemachine Error -6584

I switched on my Mac this morning and found I needed to restore a file I mistakenly overwrote yesterday.
I tried Timemachine but received the message "Unexpected Error code -6584". I checked my LG NAS which showed no errors.
I opened both my NAS Volumes in Finder and can find all my files, so was able to retrieve my file.
But Timemachine still refuses to function. I have checked in Preferences, and my backup disk is shown, but although it shows I have 184GB of 974GB available space it shows both Oldest and Latest Backup as none.
Any help in restoring my Timemachine would be much appreciated.
    For Info..
I use a iMac i7 with Mountain Lion.
LG NAS using volumes. Vol1 is 1TB for Timemachine. Vol2 is 2TB for shared network files.

Thanks for the link! Its been very useful.
As my confidence in Timemachine has faded due to the fact that there seems to be no reason for my error it has prompted me to keep more reliable backups in future.

  • Trying to backup my time machine..

I am trying to backup my time machine but keeps coming up with error 6584 can anyone help please
    <Re-Titled By Host>

First, if this is your only backup, you must make another full backup to a locally-attached external hard drive. One backup is never enough to be safe, and backing up over a network is less reliable than backing up locally. Then try each of the following steps that you haven't already taken.
    1. Restart the backup device. You can do that by disconnecting and reconnecting the power cord.
    2. Hold down the option key and select Verify Backups from the TM menu in the menu bar (not the Dock icon.) This operation may take a long time. If the menu-bar icon (a clock that runs backwards) isn't showing, check Show Time Machine in menu bar in the preferences.
    3. Erase the backup device. With a Time Capsule, you do that from within the AirPort Utility application; see its built-in help for details. All backups will be lost, so don't do this until you've backed up to another device. After erasing, select the TC again as a backup destination in the TM preference pane. The first backup should be made over a wired connection, if possible.

  • HT201250 Time Machine

Time machine randomly deleted ALL backups two days ago, not just the oldest to make room. Completey "started over" and backed up over 700 gig of information. Now my latest backup is 2 days ago rather than months ago. What happened? My concern is that happening and the Mac crashing and I have no backup. Is this a glitch in the time machine?

  • Mountain Lion cannot access Time Capsule

    Hello,
I just finished installing Moutain Lion and trying to access my things on Time Capsule.
I cannot do that. Migration Assistant is saying that some backup could not be accessed, accesing by Time Machine prefs paneldoesn't work (operation can't complete, error 6584), mounting the sparsebundle file is impossible because of a "ressource temporarly unavailable", mounting with disk utility doesn't work either, copying the sparsebundle on my desktop is saying I have "no permission" to do that, but when I right to show the package content of the sparsebundle, I can see a lot of 8.4MB files who are I guess my backup..
Can you please exlpain what I have to do ??..
    Thanks
    George

Hello again, I finally manage to acces TC and I'm busy copying my sparsebundle file on my desktop..
When I will have that, does anyone can explain how I can acces and recover my things on it ?..
I have 100s of 8.4MB files in it, how do I get my folders ?..
Does anyone can tell that ??..
    Thanks in advance.

  • Where are my backups?

Hi, I have a new mac book pro (retina- Lion OSX 10.8.2) and want to retrieve my time machine backups on this new device but whenever I enter the time capsule application  I  get an error message saying "unexpected error occcurred error -6584'). Eventually the time machine image window starts but none of my back ups are there.
Any idea what's going wrong or what I should do?
(the old Mac that I was backing up was a Mac book pro Snow Leopard if that is of any importance...)
    thanks!

  • Backup from another mac's time capsule

Moving iMovies home.  Want to get files from office MacMini to home MacPro.  Have 4 internal drives and prefer to load on to one, not the primary hard drive.
Took Time Capsule from MacMini home, connected by Ethernet (MacPro's Time Capsule still connected in other ethernet port.
This is what I did, and the disappointing result:
Used Migration Assistant hoping to transfer from Mini's Time Capsule to the Mac  Pro.  Selected option to only transfer files.  Had to password twice in the process, then a relatively short wait (2min) while the horizontal blue barber pole rolled.  then it finished, said it was done I believe.  But I cannot find my files.
Note I used Migration Assistant per the instructions for Maverick's OS, and I have Mountain Lion (maybe not.  It's 10.7.5 on this machine)--but the link for backing up with Mountain Lion happens to go right to the Mavericks instructions.
    Question:  How to?
Question:  If I did it right, where are my files on my MacPro

AND NOW MY TIME CAPSULE MacPro is not viewable.  Try to enter Time Machine and get error 6584.  I also note that in the Time capsule preferences page, an odd thing has happened: It indicates "Latest BackUp = NONE".  It also shows I have 2.12 TB available of 3.0 TB, and I know it has been backing up til now.
