Error -70001 when changing DVD drive region for last time

Hi there,
I am trying to change my DVD drive from region 2 to region 1. This should be the last time I am able to change regions, but I am still getting an Error -70001 which prevents me from making the switch.
Can anyone help me get around this?
Another forum said I need to find a disk that can only be read in the region I want to change to (in this case region 1), but so far I have had no luck with this method.
Thank you all so much for any help on the issue.

Are you sure the DVD is region 1 ONLY? You can't always trust the label. I have a three DVD boxed set that says region 1. One of the DVDs is multiple region.

  • Error 70001 when changing DVD region (changes still allowed)

I still have allowable DVD region changes left on DVD player, but when I try to apply a region change, error message 70001 appears.
Does anybody know how to solve this problem? I've looked on various online forums and tried using VLC - but this doesn't work - and used MacTheRipper to no avail either.

Try doing a Ctrl-Alt-Del, and in Task Manager click on the Processes tab. End the iTunesHelper and iPodService processes. Then reconnect the iPod and go into Disk Management, and the iPod should show up. Change the drive letter to something other than C, then eject the iPod and restart the computer. When you reconnect it you should be able to get it recognized.

  • ERROR message when trying to open InDesign for first time

I just installed InDesign yesterday (trial).  I can't open it.  I keep getting the Error message: Unable to launch Adobe InDesign as you do not have sufficient permissions to access the preferences folders. Ensure that you have appropriate permissions and then restart Adobe InDesign.
I have done what others have recommended online (in these forums): change the permissions of the Indesign folder in the Library - but no success. I've uninstalled and reinstalled.  I'm doing the Trial but with all of these glitches and the lack of direct support of how to solve this issue, it looks though I won't buy the full version.  Please help!!

if win, right click your id exe and click 'run as administrator'.
if that fails, reset your perferences by holding down shift-ctrl-alt (win) or shift-cmd-alt (mac) while starting id.  if done correctly you'll see a confirmation dialog.

  • Error 70001 when trying to change back region of DVD. Said had 2 changes

left but wont let me and comes up with that error. I have no recollection of ever changing the region before. How can i solve this issue? I want it to be region 2 permanently.
Would it help to do some sort of restore? if so, how do i do it?

If I were you I would change your DVD insertion preferences by going to System Preferences and in the CD's & DVD's change the DVD video preference to ignore. Use something like VLC Player to play your DVD's. This application will play any region DVD.
I recently bought an iMac 24" 2.8Ghz from Apple Online Store. The DVD drive region was pre-set to Region 1. I was asked to change the region to 2. I phoned Apple asking them why they sent me a drive set to North America. I refused to change the Drive Region. They agreed to send me a replacement iMac. However the replacement was also set to Region 1. Also the replacement Mac was SECOND HAND. They couldn't give me an explanation as to why I had been sent a used iMac. I was furious and demanded my money back. All new iMacs bought in the UK should have their DVD Drives set to Europe: Region 2 not North America. You should under no circumstances accept this from Apple Uk.

  • Help with dvd drive - region code error

Hi, I really need to change the drive region code on my Ibook G4 (OS X 10.4.10) back to Region 2. I'm allowed to change it one last time.
But the trouble is, when I try and change it and click 'set drive region' it just comes up with an error message -70001, 'There was a problem changing the drive region code.'
I've reset the PMU and PRAM/NVRAM but it still does it.
Can anybody help me at all? It's driving me mad, I was banking on being able to change it back to my Region one last time...

Insert a DVD which is set to play in only one region; if you try using up your last change with a DVD that can play in some but not all regions, that error message will appear. Many DVDs which are set to play in region 2 will also play in region 4.

  • Switching the DVD drive region code - Is there a workaround?

Hi - would appreciate a confirmation or helpful hints how to circumvent the regional settings.
I understand from the Apple doc, http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=60183, that the regional coding is set in the firmware of the drive and not linked to the player (as I had apparently incorrectly surmised). If this is the case, then installing an additional player such as the VLC media player for Mac OS X (http://www.videolan.org/vlc/download-macosx.html) to use for say Region 1 discs, and maintaining Apple's DVD Player set for Region 2 discs would not prevent the drive from freezing the 5th time a different region coded disc is slid into the drive.
    Right?
If so, the only work around would be to install an external DVD drive to set to an alternative region, right? Or does somebody know a cute way to disable the firmware coding and set the drive to multiple regions. This must be possible because DVD players are available commercially which have been set to region code 0.
I have 2 changes left ... before the big freeze. Thanks

    To Apple Discussions!
It has been reported that VLC overrides the 5 region code option. You will need to read their documention on their website. Otherwise................
You can change the computers region "only 5 times". Then it's locked in the 5th version/region (until you erase your HD & start all over.).

  • Upgraded to 10.3.1.55, now can't set iT as default player,"An error occurred when updating the default player for audio files types.  You do not have enough access privileges for this operation." How to fix?

After I upgraded iTunes, iTunes doesn't recognize CD in the drive, apparently isn't the default player.  It won't let me set iTunes as the default player, I get the error message "An error occurred when updating the default player for audio files types."  I tried Whitesides' remedy (changing Read Only status in folder in Windows) but it didn't solve the problem.  Any suggestions?  Thanks.
    J

Oddly enough. I think I just solved it. It looks like, for some reason, my computer has about 8 different "iTunes music" folders, and I've been saving my music to the wrong one. Neat. Music now imports and plays as it should. Copying things over is going to be so fun tonight!

  • Encore CS3 crashes when changing disk drives

Burning a compilation from Premiere CS3 to Encore CS3 using Export to Encore. When Premiere finishes encoding and launches Encore to create DVD image, Encore keeps defaulting to my CD-R drive and not my DVD-R drive.
Each time I have to cancel the operation, and then manually change the dropdown recorder selector from the CD to the DVD drive. And EVERY TIME I do this Encore crashes.
Since there doesn't seem to be a way to force Encore to remember which drive I want to use for recording as a default, this software is totally useless to me.
Does anyone know of a way to make Encore remember a specific disc drive to use for recording?

You could try setting the DVD-R drive as Master, not the CD-R.
The bad news is that this means opening up the computer & either resetting the drive jumpers from CS (Cable Select) to Master & Slave, or if they are already set to Master & Slave, then they need reversing.
This cannot be done in software as it is a matter of their physical position on the cable.
To ensure correct pickup, it would be a good idea to go into Control Panel/System/device manager (
    i before
opening the system - and uninstall both optical drives (right-click on the drive & select "uninstall".
The next time you boot, thedrives should be detected in their new configuration.

  • Last time you can change he drive region code - could I try to reset this?

Hello everybody this is my dvd driver into my iMac G5
    Model: MATSHITA DVD-R UJ-845
    Revision: DBN9
    Serial Number:
    Detachable Drive: No
    Protocol: ATAPI
    Unit Number: 0
    Socket Type: Internal
And this is the message that I need to avoid.
This is the last time you can change he drive region code
I'm a music student and I have several instructions DVD in region 1 and 2 but I live in South America and here it's 4.
Have any way to reset this counter to 0 and have 5 more changes or put it the driver in region free mode?
    Thanks in advance
    Gus

    Hi Gustavo,
As someone who has travelled between regions a lot, I feel your pain.
Your only options with the UJ-845 are to get an external DVD drive, based on a drive mechanism that can be made region free, or remove the internal drive and replace it with a Pioneer K05 or K06. Pioneer drives can be made region free, and are compatible with MacOS X.
If you have one of the original G5 iMacs, without an iSight, the upgrade is very easy, and you should still keep any remaining warranty. Instructions are available at http://manuals.info.apple.com/en/imacg517inchOpticalDrive.pdf ( or http://manuals.info.apple.com/en/imacg520inchOpticalDrive.pdf )
If you have one with an iSight, it is very difficult and you should get a professional to do it - Have a look at http://www.kodawarisan.com/imacg5_isight/imacg501i.html for how it comes apart.

  • I receive the following error message when trying to install QuickTime for Windows "Error writing to file C:/Program Files/QuickTime/QTSystems/QuickTimeCheck.ocx. Verify that you have access to that directory."

I recieve the following error message when trying to install Quicktime for Windows "Error writing to file C:/Program Files/QuickTime/QTSystems/QuickTimeCheck.ocx. Verify that you have access to that directory."  I just trying to get the latest version of iTunes.  Thanks

"Error writing to file C:/Program Files/QuickTime/QTSystems/QuickTimeCheck.ocx. Verify that you have access to that directory."
That one's consistent with disk/file damage. The first thing I'd try with that is running a disk check (chkdsk) over your C drive.
XP instructions in the following document: How to perform disk error checking in Windows XP
Select both Automatically fix file system errors and Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors, or use chkdsk /r (depending on which way you decide to go about doing this). You'll almost certainly have to schedule the chkdsk to run on startup. The scan should take quite a while ... if it quits after a few minutes or seconds, something's interfering with the scan.
Does the chkdsk find/repair any damage? If so, can you get an install to go through properly afterwards?

  • Help please! error code:  a valid dvd drive could not be found  [-70012]

    Hi,
Although I am able to play cds and bootable discs, I am unable to play dvds on my LaCie d2 DVD-RW Firewire Drive. I get an error code:
a valid dvd drive could not be found -70012
Is anyone able to help? I did see one other post listed with this error code, but that person's results seem to be no longer valid, with outdated links for patches.
    Thanks,
    George

It's possible that you caused some damage by not "properly" doing the firmware update, but drives with bad firmware typically just don't work, period. Unfortunately, LaCie does not keep the older firmware posted on their site so that you could 'back-flash' the drive to an earlier firmware revision and then re-apply the updated firmware.
If you have access to a PC that you could put the drive into (as in, removed from the LaCie external enclosure) and know the drive type (the NEC ND-35xx is the most common) you could find older firmware and flashing utilities for the PC, flash the drive to one of those and then drop it back into the LaCie enclosure and flash it back to the current LaCie firmware. No guarantees this will work, though, and you may end up with a totally dead drive.

  • DVD drive drivers for HP dv6-6195sp

I recently formatted my HP Pavilion dv6-6195sp and installed Windows 7 Professional 64bit. Now, everything was ok until I noticed the system hadn't recognized the DVD drive. I went to the HP support site and searched the drivers for my computer and everything else was there, just not the drivers for the DVD drive. I called the customer support for my country and the lady there had no clue about what I was talking about and what was the solution for my problem. Anyone can give me some help?

    Thanks for your quick reply.
I remembered in the meantime that about two weeks ago I sent my computer for a thorough internal clean up, and it might have happened that the technician accidentaly disconnected the cables that connect the DVD drive to the board. Now that I think of it, I remember using the DVD drive somewhere between the time I formatted the hard drive and the day I sent the computer for a clean up. I will head down to the store on Monday (since it is closed now) and see what I can find. If everything is plugged in correctly, I'll try your solution and come back for some feedback.
Again, thank you for your help.

  • Lightroom 5, can't open..an error occurred when changing modules

I got Lightroom 4 with a new camera.  couldn't install on my Mac so purchased  (full price) lightroom 5.   Retrieved my key and downloaded and installed on the Mac.  Lightroom is there, but when I try to open in says "an error occurred when changing modules".  I have uninstalled and reinstalled several times.  Went online and tried some suggestions but nothing works.  I have had no problems running or using LR5 on my PC.  I really like the program...I don't know what to do next. Running OS X 10.9.2.

Moving this discussion to the Photoshop Lightroom forum.
