Error 70025 in Measurement and Automation Explorer
After a clean reboot of the system I receive Error -70025 ("Return Buffer is not empty..") in the Measurement and Automation Explorer. When I click on "Clear RDB" which is supposed to solve the problem, it says "Error clearing the return data buffer". In the status tab, all LEDs are flashing (Error Code varying from 0xFFFF to 0x0182).
First, I simply tried to remove the motion controller (it's a NI PCI-7334) from the MAX tab which did not work. Then, I tried to repair the installation of all NI tools but this didn't help either.
I'm working with NI Motion 8.4 and MAX 5.4.0f0 on Windows XP.
Do you have any idea how to solve this problem? Currently, I cannot run the motor at all.
Thanks,
Jürgen
edit: I just realize that the controlller is listed as PXI-7334 in the Windows Device Manager but in fact it is a PCI-7334. Would this explain the problem?
update: Forcing the installation of the PCI-334 driver does not make any difference.
Hi Jürgen,

Error -2147220733 occurred at DAQ Assistant (in Measurement and Automation Explorer)
Ok! Just before the weekend I figured out how to make channels in Measurement and Automation Explorer for inputs through a couple different NI input devices (USB-9211A & PCI-6229 DAQ). Things were going well. Loaded up the computer today, added a few more channels. Worked fine. Now all of a sudden, any channel I make has an error and if I try modifying existing channels and saving, I get same error:
"This global channel currently has an error. You can save the global channel, but it cannot be used until all errors have been fixed. Press "Yes" to save anyway, or "No" to cancel and show the error."
If I hit yes, the channel is non functional. After hitting no, I get:
"Error -2147220733 occurred at DAQ Assistant. Possible Reason(s): "
with no possible reasons listed. I tried restarting the program. I tried restarting the computer. I verified connections. Searched for the above stated error number on ni.com, google.ca, and in the MAX help files, and found absolutely nothing. I have no clue what to do. Any help would indeed be very much appreciated.Hi there,
This is my first time on here and I've only been using this software for a couple of days so it's possible I'm making a trivial error but I thought I'd post here anyway as I can't find anything on the net about my problem.
I also get an error while trying to save:
Error -2147220733 occurred at DAQ Assistant
Possible Reason(s):
Requested Code: -2147220733
But mine comes about in different circumstances to the one in the original post on this thread by Kahless. I was editting a VI logger task and within that I was trying to edit an NI-DAQmx Task. I was trying to change the clock settings, specifically I was attempting to change the Rate (Hz) from the 1k default to just 20, or 200. I got the error while trying to save so changed it back to 1k, but the error persisted even though I'd set it back to what it was.
I thought at first it might be simply that I was trying to edit an NI-DAQmx task within VILogger, so I tried making the ammendment directly but the problem was still there.
Any ideas?
Many thanks. -
Problems with Measurement and Automation Explorer (MAX)
Hello LabVIEWers,
I have been having a serious problem getting MAX to start and to remain stable. Here are the specifics:I am running LabVIEW 8.5 Full Development System on a Dell PC with 1GB of RAM and plenty of hard drive space. The OS is XP Pro and I also have McAfee Enterprise Virus Scan software. MAX will start-up and appear to run for a few minutes and then the software bombs out. I get a "Measurement and Automation Explorer has encountered a problem and has to close" pop-up message. To fix the problem, I have uninstalled all NI software using MSI Blast. I have wiped the registry clean of NI keys as per instructions in previous posts. I have deleted any remaining NI software on teh hard drive including C:\program files\national instruments and C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\National Instruments. I have then restarted the machine and did a complete fresh install from CD's, DVD's, and the harddrive (CD's written to hardrive and DVD written to harddrive first). I installed first the LabVIEW and then I installed the Device Drivers. I restarted the machine between installs. I have even installed the updated NIDAQ 8.6. After which I set protections on the NI directories to read/write. Ok, basically I have done all these things numerous times and I still cannot get things to work correctly.
I was able to get into MAX for a little while (it is somewhat stable immediately after a fresh reinstall). I defined 4 Simulated DAQmx devices and none of them acted like they were simulated. I received various errors saying that the device was not found or could not be started. So I basically could not run my software with the simulated devices. LabVIEW sometimes seems to work ok but just now, I got a "Error loading nidmm_32.dll, initialization routine failed" error. I also get the same error for nilvaiu.dll. Both of these DLLs are in the C:\Program Files\IVI\Bin and c:\windows\system32 directories respectively and prior to the last time I started the software, all worked ok with LabVIEW.
Is my computer failing? Are there any other options to getting this installed without probems?
Please help.

Hi
I'm acquiring data on 8 analog input channels using a PCI-6052 E card. The data on channels 5 thru 8 is going to be between +1V and -1V. So for greater resolution I'm manually changing the range of these channels to +1V to -1V in the measurement and automation explorer. Is there a way by which I can make these changes directly using a VI ?
Thanks,
ShivHi
Yes you can, but only if you use the "AI Config" VI. AI config allows different gains for different channels. The "channels" and "input limits" inputs of the VI accepts arrays. The first element of the input limits array corresponds to the first element of the channel array. Check the "cont acq&chart (buffered).vi" in the LV examples. There you see what I mean!

I am using Measurement and Automation Explorer Version 3.1.1.3003 to view pictures on a pc that are being sent from a video camera looking through a microscope. The image I see in the viewfinder of the microscope is MUCH smaller than the image that is displayed on the pc screen. Looking through the viewfinder of the microscope, I can see ~20 mm across the object, but the display from the camera in NI-MAX shows ~4.5 mm across the object. How can I change how much of an object is displayed on the screen in NI-MAX?
The camera is attached to the microscope with a camera adapter on the top of the microscope. The lenses the camera "looks" through and the lenses used when one looks through the viewfinder are the same, so theoretically, there should be no difference in what is displayed on the pc and what is seen through the viewfinder. We have ruled out the microscope and camera as the cause of the problem, which narrows it down to the NI-MAX software itself.
I saw in the forums that you can zoom out on an image; however, this does not change the distance across an image that is seen, just makes the picture of the same ~4.5 mm across the object smaller in size.
Any ideas or suggestions?I have attached a picture of the object's image being displayed on the pc monitor. Where the field of view (FOV) in the microscope is almost 30 mm, the FOV displayed onscreen is about 7 mm. After contacting companies various times I discovered there was a reducing lens that goes in the C-mount adaptor, but it is over $300.
I thought maybe that the FOV could be changed in in NI Measurement and Automation Exploer (NI-MAX). Any ideas?

Measurement and Automation Explorer not installed correctly
I have a trial version of LabView 8.5. Upon trying to change the Instrument I/O Assistant, I get "Measurement and Automation Explorer not installed correctly. Please install from driver CD." Well, I don't have the CD since this was a trial download.
Basically, what I am trying to do is this: I want to pull 4 variables/tags from an Allen Bradley PLC and log them to an Excel spreadsheet. I am using RSLinx to communicate with the PLC, and LabView to compile the info.
Any help would be appreciated.Any Ideas? I have the program running right now, and I'm kinda in a bind. I also tried RSView32 Works to log the info, but there isn't enough flexibility in logging. I need to log flow rate test results from a large automated machine. The mahcine does a number of operations, but we are most concerned with these four tags (since it conducts four tests at once). The problem is, the cycle time varies with the lot of product. Some products require more time as the process is more delicate. So, I can't use a time-interval logging method.
As for variable change, I can't do that either because it records the 4 test results in series; not all at the same time. That, and if the test is aborted (no tube), the previous test result value stays in the tag until there is a successful test.
I found a variable that changes once per cycle. I'd like to log the four tags once per cycle.
BUT I can't do anything until I get the I/O Wizard working. -
I am running a set up which uses 2 identical USB Point Grey cameras of the same model (FL3-U3-13S2M-CS). Both USB cameras are plugged into the computer (blue USB cables).
When I open up Measurement and Automation Explorer and look under "NI-IMAQdx Devices" in the configuration tree, LavVIEW only recognizes one of the two USB cameras. Measurement and Automation Explorer only lists one camera, in which it recognizes it as "Point Grey Camera". Why this is occurring? How can I get LabVIEW to recognize two separate cameras of the same model?

Parallel port not detected in measurement and automation explorer
I have installed labview 2010 in windows XP.
The problem what I am facing is I could not find "Serial & Parallel port" option in Measurement and automation explorer.
After seeing the similar problem in forum I have installed Ni-Daqmx 9.0.2. But still I can not see the ports in MAX.
I think i have attached enough document .
If the parallel port is not detected in MAX can we send digital data to parallel port.
I have tested parallel port with LED connecting one leg in 1st data line(pin 2) and another in gnd(pin 25).
And my program is to blink the led for every one second but I cannot see the blinking.
Can anyone help in this regards
thank you

I can't find my PCI card using Measurement and Automation Explorer
I've installed the PCI card.. It's a PCI-DAS08. The PC I'm running is quite slow, took like an hour to install Labview. The Measurement and Automation Explorer can't seem to find the card even though it's shown in the Device Manager. I don't know how to solve this problem. Any help or tips appreciated. THANKS
Is tha device made by NI?
MAX only supports NI DAQ devices.
You will need the drivers and support software from the equipment manufactuer.

I am having difficulties getting Labview to work with my NI card. I have a PCI_6225 card running on a Win 7 64-bit install. I had to download all of the drivers and installers from the NI site and during the Labview install, I recieve a prompt asking for my hardware drivers. Since I only have the compressed hardware installer, Labview doesn't like what it sees and continues the installation of LABVIEW. I then attempt to open an analog input channel through the Instrument I/O Assistant which displays the error seen in the image attached.
I know the hardware works because in the Measurement and Automation client, I am able to observe the analog input I hope to collect in LABVIEW.
Is there a fix to get LABVIEW working? I have tried multple installs of LABVIEW and am on a administered computer through my University's IT people. I have 'full admin' rights. Thanks.

error.jpg 254 KBHello jbaxter,
When you download the Drivers from NI's website, make sure you unzip them (extract them) to a folder on your computer before you install them. If you use the NI Downloader it should prompt you to unzip and run the files after the download is complete. You need to either repair, or reinstall DAQmx and NI VISA. Make sure you download the latest versions of these first:
http://search.ni.com/nisearch/app/main/p/bot/no/ap/global/lang/en/pg/1/sn/catnav:du,ssnav:sup/1//en/...
Then go to Control Panel»Programs and Features»National Instruments Software and click Uninstall/Change then go to DAQmx and NI-VISA and click Repair. You can then point to folder that you downloaded from NI's website (make sure this is not a zip folder, but the folder that has been extracted). Or you could choose Remove, and then reinstall them both again. Also if you are using GPIB, reinstall or repair the NI-488.2 driver.

Recognition usb device by measurment and automation explorer
HI
I have bought nrf24lu1-dongle from nordicsemiconductor. this is a
transciever with usb interface. when i attach that to usb port it will be
recognized by computer .and in my package there is a driver for that too.so
i think it must be a USBTMC device. but i can't see this device in measurment
& automation explorer. i have update MAX driver(install legacy driver support) after ataching my device to
pc .but no changes occur! this will occur for any kind of usb device like my
mp3 player(i expect when i attach mymp3 player to usb port it must be accessible in measurment & automation). is this problem related with the kind of usb port that i use? all
my usb ports are flat type(host) . or maybe my NI-VISA (version 4.5 is not a complete
package! and don't support USB).
with best regardsHello farashi,
As noted in this KnowledgeBase article, the hid.dll file is from Microsoft, and you can find more information here.
I also found this really helpful nugget on programming USB devices that may prove to be helpful.Hope this helps.

Hey Guyz!
I am experiencing a problem perfomring my shunt calibration using a 350ohm(GF 2) strain gauge connected with NI9949 and NI9237 in a NI cDAQ-9178 Hardware.
When i click on strain callibration under configuration-Device: R3 being my shunt of 100k ohm, i can measure the errors and calibration but when i hit the calibration tab, it gives me an error 200077 occured at Strain Gauge Calibration (see aatached jpeg file for the error type).
I don't know what is wrong, i have doublt-tripple checked my circuit, and have read the forums regarding the same error and have come across the "signal input range", in my case it is default kept at 1m max and -1m min. I am not sure how these values work.
Any guidance would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

error 200077.jpg 73 KBHi
This error code may be occurring due to the specified signal input range in max (-1m to 1m), being set to a value outside of the expected readings from your strain gauge.
Also the Gage Factor, Gage Resistance, Initial Voltage, Vex Source, Vex Value (V), Lead Resistance and Strain Configuration need to be configured based on your sensor specification.
This link gives more details on connecting strain gages to a DAQ device:

Hope this helps.

<I don't see a board for MAX so I posted it here. I hope you don't mind.>
I am trying to migrate to a new computer and have successfully moved the LV code but it relies on the configuration setup in MAX to operate. There are many configuration items includes hardware configurations, scales, etc. I have LV 6.1 on Windows XP and MAX v 3.1.1 on both machines. When I export all data from computer 1, I end up with an NCE file. This file is binary. I've tried exporting to text format but have not succeeded.
When I try to import on computer 2, first MAX reports "Can not find RTE directory: C:\WINDOWS\system32\cvirte". This seems weird since I didn't install LW/CVI when I installed LV. I click OK. I then get "Unable to open c:\program files\national instruments\max\bin\cvirte.rsc". I click OK. I then attempt to import the data from the NCE file but get "This wizard does not recognize the specified configuration file."
I tried installing NI System Configurator v5.5.1f0 but get the same results.
How can I safely migrate the MAX configuration data?Yes, MAX is also installed with the motion controller driver.
NI-DAQ 6.9.2 is over 10 years old. I simply don't remember what issues it had, sorry. Version 7.4.4 was the latest for XP. Perhaps that works better.
And the cvirte was required for some of the MAX features. It should have been installed automatically. -
How do I get a copy of version 2.2 of Measurement and Automation Explorer?
I am also interested in what new features/changes were made in V2.2 relative to 2.1. I noticed 2.2 on some systems here at Intel but didn't see it on the I web site.
Updates to MAX are included with updates to your drivers or newer software (LabVIEW, CVI, etc.). Upgrade to the newest NIDAQ (6.9.2) or NI488 (2.0).
As far as differences, there were a coule of bug fixes (1 important had to do with SCXI-1520 configuration). Also, it supports the newest version of VI Logger.
