Error -8 message (can't connect with audio or video, text OK)
I've tried to exhaust all the resources online, but so far have had little success.
I'm getting an Error -8 message whenever I try to establish a video (or audio) chat with any of the three Apple test accounts. I've opened the ports recommended by:
http://portforward.com/english/routers/port_forwarding/Netopia/3347NWG/iChat.htm
I'm actually trying to get my father-in-law's account up and running so the only details I have about the ISP is that it's Bluewin based in Switzerland so I'm not sure about VoIP details. I could probably find out if necessary. Also, I've already switched to port 443 to log on.
Here's sort of a funny little detail. I've also brought my 12-inch PowerBook G4 with me which I know works back in the states. I get almost the same error as the iMac, but with more details. The only difference is that the iMac doesn't have any details in the following categories:
Video Conference Report:
Video Conference Support Report:
Video Conference User Report:
I think I've covered all the bases. Any and all help would be greatly appreciated. The details of the error log are listed below (BTW, changed account info to "********" for security).
Thanks, in advance,
Scott

Video Conference User Report:
Hi Ralph,
Well, the Leopard update is installed (10.5.1) and still no luck with iChat 4.0. Still using UPnP through the Netopia 3347NWG, not port forwarding. I have to admit I'm still a little clumsy finding my way through the new OS, but I've done the adjustments to the Mac firewall and I'm sure I have a little more "homework" to do. Unfornately, I'm leaving for home tomorrow, so I thought I'd a least give you an update.
The new error message is as follows. Any additional troubleshooting will have to be done over the phone with my father-in-law at this point.
Happy New Year, BTW.
Patiently awaiting your thoughts.
Scott

I keep getting message can't connect with server when using facebook
How can this be corrected have tried uninstalling facebook and reinstalling but keeps happening?
When I get this, I typically go to yahoo.com or google.com and see if they are working. If they are working, it could be that the website you are trying to reach is having problems. If it's not working on any websites, check your internet connection. If you are on WI-FI, I get this sometimes where the connection drops and I just click on the WI-FI button on top right to refresh.

Can no longer connect for audio or video chat : Error -8 drama
I've been video and audio chatting to Europe for quite some time with no problem. After installing a new modem (Motorola Surfboard SB5101) I'm now getting the dreaded Error -8 and can not connect for either audio or video. Text works fine.
I've poked around the forums and see some similarities with problems other users are having, but I have to assume my issues have something to do with the new modem, since I've been using audio/video chat for so long without a hassle.
I went through all the usual steps as mentioned in other threads: Firewall is off, Quicktime streaming changed to T1, tried changing the port to 443... Nothing works.
I'm using OSX 10.4.10
iChat AV 3.1.8(v445)
Modem goes to an Airport Express which is wired to my desktop computer.
I get the same results from my MacBook Pro as I do with my desktop so it's not a computer issue.
Upon inviting or being invited the wheels spin a moment and then I get a message saying I left the chat.
And the report is this:

I am not sure the Surfboard routes either.
It is not in this list http://portforward.com/routers.htm which is where we start for most people.
A little of what we are talking about.
DHCP is a way that so called server in routing devices hands out IP addresses.
You Mac will be getting one from the Airport.
You can look it up on your Mac in System Preferences > Network.
Pick the connection method from the second drop down and then the TCP/IP tab in the next section.
The IP is listed, Whether is asking for a DHCP given IP, A Subnet Mask, DSN servers (if your lucky) and the "router" IP
With an Airport Router you are likely to get an IP that starts 10.0.1.x and the "Router" is at 10.0.1.1
If connected direct to the modem the the "router" is the modem. In the case of some cable connections it will pass through the Public IP given to you by the ISP
On the whole Cable modems do not route but it is not exclusive.
IF it does not route and you connect directly to it then the IP will show may be you Public IP seen here http://myip.dk/
Next bit.
Now all ports below the number 1024 are normally open in all routers and modems that route.
Web browsing and Mail apps tend to use ports below this figure which is why any routing device will work and get you on the Net no matter how they are set up.
Applications like IM ones like iChat and On-line games use ports above this 1024 threshold and as a consequence need ports to be allowed or opened.
Next Bit.
Certain apps like iChat like the LAN and the ports open to be very Linear. In fact iChat is fussy about how many times it has to go through devices that all do NAT Based methods of opening the ports.
These methods are Port Forwarding, Port Triggering and DMZ (which is an extreme form of Port Forwarding).
Because of the way routers allow the routing and Addressing info through even from another routing device then the computer can have two IP address (one from the modem and one from the Router).
See the Second pic This means the computer sits in two subnets on your LAN.
The normal way of telling this in an iChat log is to look for the change in ports that showed up in your Log.
SO far the above infers what you can do using System Preferences > Network to find out if both device are routing.
I am not sure that the surfboard is.
I think the idea that the ISP is doing something to the packets is the problem.
Read the whole of this page http://www.ralphjohnsuk.dsl.pipex.com/page4.html if you want to know more. It starts with the Mac Firewall but goes on to the stuff listed above.

Error message "unable to connect with server. Check wifi connection"
I started having the error message "unable to connect with server. Check wifi connection" when I attempt to use search function within a certain apps and when I try to download certain magazine (eg. National geographic). I didn't have this problem with I first started using iPad, and no problems with connectivity when using other apps. Can anyone help?
You may not really be connected to your WiFi network.
Your router may not have given your iPad a valid IP address. Go to Settings > Wifi > your network name and touch the ">" to the right to see the network details. If the IP address starts with 169 or is blank then your router didn't provide an IP address and you won't be able to access the Internet.
Sometimes the fix can be as simple as restarting your router (remove power for 30 seconds and restart). Next, reset network settings on your iPad (Settings > General > Reset > Reset network settings) and then attempt to connect. In other cases it might be necessary to update the router's firmware with the latest from the manufacturer's support web pages.
If you need more help please give more details on your network, i.e., your router make, model and version, the wifi security being used (WEP, WPA, WPA2), etc. -
I can't receive my incoming mail in Mac Mail. ESP is yahoo. Error msg says unable to connect with POP server. Any solution? I am able to get my incoming messages via yahoo website but not through the Mail app.
Try this, if it is not the correct department, ask them for the number or to be transfered..
Call 1-800-318-0612 for Login Help
Also on most autmated systems, if you hit 00000, or ##### you can sometimes get thru to a person.
Is Yahoo your Internet provider? Do you have a local provider? ei:AT&T, SBC, cable co, check who you make your check or epatment to...etc, If so I would start there, but if no joy go to the "Mothership"
I may be wrong about this, (it's been a long time now) I may have deleted my mail account from Mail (after writing down all the info from all General/accounts, and the rest of the tabs, and then added a new account using my existing email address, and it may have "walked me thru the rest of the proceedure".
But like I said it was a long time ago 3-4 years, but that may have been the path I ended up taking, make sure to write all the info down in case you need to re-enter it all manually. Then try calling them.
All the best -
Hi,
For the first time today, I've been having problems connecting to AIM using Messages. I get the "Messages can't communicate with the account "AIM." Cannot log in to AIM. General error. Try again." error. I looked at the forums here and I tried deleting my account, restarting my computer, reinstalling the account but to no avail. I've been using messages and mountain lion for a few weeks and never had a problem with connecting to AIM until now. Any help is greatly appreciated!uncheck SSL in server settings....done deal. Funny part is I was having the same problem...went to genius bar...they couldnt figure it out...told me to call apple support. Did that...they told me to re install software after an hour of trying to figure it out...that didnt work either.
amazing the info you can get thru forums.! -

I keep getting an error message "can not connect to the iTunes stores" - what gives.
Microsoft does not currently have a Mac App Store version of Microsoft Office. So any apps that you find in the Mac App Store that sound like those programs are probably helper programs by third-party developers. The only way to get Office for Mac is directly from Microsoft on their website.

I'm an active subscriber for creative cloud photography plan. However, I can not connect with lightroom mobile. On my desktop app or on iPad app I get the message ˜trial expired˜. Please, what is going on? Thanks for the help.
Does your Cloud subscription properly show on your account page?
If you have more than one email, are you sure you are using the correct Adobe ID?
https://www.adobe.com/account.html for subscriptions on your Adobe page
If yes
Some general information for a Cloud subscription
Cloud programs do not use serial numbers... you log in to your paid Cloud account to download & install & activate... you MAY need to log out of the Cloud and restart your computer and log back in to the Cloud for things to work

Hi there!
I am very new in Essbase and I am receiving the error message quoted below while trying to load data in a Cube. Weird thing is that we have checked all connections already and they are working correctly, however this process is still failing.
If someone can give us an idea to troubleshoot it, that would be really appreciated.
Thanks very much in advance for any help and regards!

So, we checked the database and noticed the schema and their views were damaged and -due to this- they lost all their properties (like data types, for example). So, we had to recompile all of them in order to avoid any loss of data. This was done in TOAD, as per the following info: https://support.quest.com/SolutionDetail.aspx?id=SOL66821
Finally, once all the views on this schema were rebuilt and fixed, we were able to deploy the Cube again.
Hope this help in the future. Cheers!! -
I can't connect with using connector
Hi,
I want to create a system(Solman 4.0) in Portal.I have created a SAP system using dedicated application server and then I filled all necessary fields.I tested with using system connection test. There are two test nameS(SAP Web AS Connection and Connection test for Connectors)Firstly, I checked WAS Connection and everything was ok but when I tested "Connection Test for Connectors" it didn't work. When I clicked test button, it said "Connection failed. Make sure user mapping is set correctly and all connection properties are correct" but I didn't use UIDPW.I used the Logon Ticket method and system_type is SAP_CRM but when I checked log file, it said this message "(R3/BW) Failed to get connection. Please contact your admin".I didin't understand because I have already used SAP_CRM syte sytem type. Why do I get this message. In addition, The ume.usermapping.unsecure is already on TRUE.In short, I can't connect with using connector. What's the problem?Hi Vijith,
I perform your suggestion and I got an error message. This error message is written below.
