Error 80073712 new window updates

I was trying to run window- new updates and recieved error 80073712.  I wanted to run new updates because that was one solution i-tunes suggested when I couldn't load i-tunes.

The issue is that the WUA 3.0 (7.0.6000.374) upgrade is corrupted, essentially the system reports the WUA to be 7.0.6000.374 but the files on the disk are still from the old version (you can check some of the DLLs like wups.dll, wuaueng.dll etc… in the windows\system32) … and you cannot install the WUA 3.0 even manually.
delete the following file
C:\windows\winsxs\pending.xml
Since Windows security will not allow you to do this, here under the procedure to take ownership of the file
run a command prompt with “Run as Administrator”.
Type in the following commands
takeown /f C:\Windows\winsxs\pending.xml
cacls C:\Windows\winsxs\pending.xml /G <YourUsername>:F
then delete the file and Reboot the machine
Reinstall the Windows Update Agent
save to the desktop, and run from an elevated command prompt, adding /wuforce to the end of the command
x86-based versions of Windows: Download WindowsUpdateAgent30-x86.exe (http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkID=100334).
x64-based versions of Windows: Download WindowsUpdateAgent30-x64.exe (http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkID=100335).

  • Stop error 0x7b after windows updates 10/14-10/15/2014

Last evening we received the new windows updates.. This morning we found that we had several of our older (desktop only) Dell model pc's  (Example: Dell 755)  were showing the Windows Error Recovery screen.. Most of our users ran the startup repair
and this had 2 results.. One the scan found nothing and upon the next boot went right back to the Recover Screen or two if they attempt to start Windows normal are receiving a 0x0000007b (0x80786b58, 0xc0000034, 0x00000000, 0x00000000)
I have done some research on the web and have found several solutions:
The possibility of the update changing the SATA controller of RAID controller settings: This is not the case for us
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM.....\msahci-iastor-iastorV\Start settings: They are all currently set to 0 as stated
I have been trying to locate a way to remove the updates via Hirens 15.2 but can not run the location .exe for the updates to remove and we currently have no backup points set. I have run the Chkdisk and repair from both local and also the Software CD and
    this found nothing wrong..
All of these machines are / were running Windows 7 Enterprise amd64
We have 170 of these machines in production and are rushing for a solution or temp fix while attempting to find newer replacements without the issue.
Any help would be greatly appreciated and thank you in advance

    Hi,
Windows directly boot into Recovery Mode should be also caused by Windows boot file (maybe bcd file problem), under this condition, it won't about to boot into system.
According to the MSDN Library about 0x7B:
    http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/windows/hardware/ff559218(v=vs.85).aspx
The INACCESSIBLE_BOOT_DEVICE bug check has a value of 0x0000007B. This bug check indicates that the Microsoft Windows operating system has lost access to the system partition during startup.
    Cause:
The INACCESSIBLE_BOOT_DEVICE bug check frequently occurs because of a boot device failure. During I/O system initialization, the boot device driver might have failed to initialize the boot device (typically a hard disk). File system initialization might
have failed because it did not recognize the data on the boot device. Also, repartitioning the system partition or installing a new SCSI adapter or disk controller might induce this error.
This error can also occur because of incompatible disk hardware. If the error occurred at the initial setup of the system, the system might have been installed on an unsupported disk or SCSI controller. Some controllers are supported only by drivers that are
in the Windows Driver Library (WDL). (These drivers require the user to do a custom installation.)
The library also contains some effective solution with this problem, please follow its introduction to make troubleshooting for test.

  • 80246002 error after installing Windows Update Agent 7.6.7600.320

This problem prevents Windows Update from being able to search, download, and install updates.
I am experiencing this issue on machines running Server 2008 R2 and Windows 7 Enterprise (I imagine this an issue with Windows Update and not the OS so this is probably affecting other OS' as well).
This problem is becoming widespread quickly.
The proposed fix (method 1) in the article below did not resolve the problem:
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/958056/en-us
Note: Method 2 is not viable when applying more than one update at a time especially when you are updating multiple machines.
Several others are posting similar problems:
    http://windowsitpro.com/windows-update/tracking-error-80246002-windows-update-problem
    http://forums.techguy.org/windows-7/1132320-windows-update-problems-4.html
This is preventing scheduled server maintenance from being performed.
Could this be a targeted attack? Happening at the end of the week before a long holiday weekend is not leaving me with a very good feeling...
I would hope that fixing this issue would be a very high priority.
BTW - There is no "Windows Update Issue" forum category that I could find - If there is, sorry for posting in the wrong area.
    Cheers,
    Jeff

    My fix that worked...
Reviewed the operational log for the WindowsUpdateClient (buried in the Event viewer here:
Application and Services Logs -> Microsoft -> Windows -> WindowsUpdateClient -> Operational
After review, I noticed that event 30 "Windows Updates established connectivity" was no longer occurring and that event 42 "There has been a change in the health of Windows Update" was the only thing after the error (Event 25 "Windows Update failed
to check for updates with error 0x80246002")
Even though the machine was restarted after applying the "Windows Update Agent 7.6.7600.320" patch and I had tried restarting the Windows Update service, the service appears to be hung.
    Solution:
1.) restart the Windows update service
2.) monitor the operational log for the WindowsUpdateClient (refreshing every 5-10 seconds)
3.) verify that event 30 happens (you should see event 38 after restarting the service followed by (2) event 42, then event 30)
4.) Once event 30 happens go to the Windows update GUI and run the "Check for updates" - yay!
5.) You can go back into the operational log and see event 26 "Windows Update successfully found x updates" followed by an event 40 for each update found.
What is really strange is that I checked the first machine that experienced the problem and it magically fixed itself.
It seems like this may have been caused by DDOS attack on the source for windows updates that the Windows Update service connects to. Or the source location was having maintenance performed.
Regardless, in my case, this was not a problem with the OS or the patch but the inability for the Windows Update Service to establish connectivity.
    Hope that helps somebody :)
    Cheers,
    Jeff

  • SCCM2012R2-WSUS-"Install New Windows Update Software" message

I have set up WSUS. I have installed SUP on SCCM. I have created two collections; Available and Required, and split my computers between them
I have deployed various Software Update groups in batches of less-than-a-thousand to get me to the point where i can use ADRs from now on. I have created an ADR for October's updates to deploy to "Required". It downloads (though only directly from
MS - cant get it to just use the WSUS folder but thats another issue) and from what i can see it deploys fine
I run Windows Update on my Test PC and Server and it says it's up to date. Great. Just to test though, i click on "Check for updates from Windows Update" and they both come back with "Install new Windows UPdate Software - To check for updates,
you must first install an update for Windows Update. Your automatic settings will not change"
So i install that update (direct from Microsoft) and Windows update closes and re-opens as it says it will.
I run another check for updates and they both say "Up to date". So i check from Windows update again since i have now installed  this new update software that i would have thought my SUP WSUS would have installed)
Now from Microsoft's site they both have 45 important updates nad 35 optional updates available. What?? So i check these updates in the list and they are all in the October package. Why arent they available on my internal SUP/WSUS but they are available
    from MS Update?

    Hi,
That is the way it works, if you have selected to have the Software updates deployments visible they are visible in Software Center instead and there you can install the updates that is needed on a computer/server if you have deployed the updates to that
    server as available first.
Yes it is possible to do, deploy all updates to a collection, create a query for that collection so that all members in that OU is automatically made members in the Collection.
then when a client is added to that OU the collection will be updated with that client as a member and the client will scan for updates and install the updates deployed to that Collection. It doesn't really matter in that case that the SCCM client does the
installation of the updates and not the WindowsUpdateAgent.
I hope that answered your question.

    Jörgen

  • Error Code 80073712 after Windows update.

I have yet another error code when Windows issued yet another automatic update.  This time it is #80073712.
I have gotten so many of these now, as Windows automatic updates download but fail to install.  Might this be because I am using Mozilla Firefox for my browser?
PLEASE....I've had dozens of updates fail to install, and I keep getting more and more different error code numbers.  Will there ever be any help on any of them?????

  • Error on new windows 8.1 project: The type or namespace name 'Foundation' does not exist in the namespace

I upgraded to win 8.1 and VS 2013. I created a new Windows 8.1 C# grid  project and tried to compile it and I'm seeing the  following error: Error 1 The type or namespace name 'Foundation' does not exist in the namespace [my namespace](are
    you missing an assembly reference?)
The errors are in navigationhelper.cs line 59
[Windows.Foundation.Metadata.WebHostHidden] // Foundation has the squigglies
    public class NavigationHelper : DependencyObject
and app.xaml.cs line 68 ==> rootFrame.Language = Windows.Globalization.ApplicationLanguages.Languages[0]; which causes this error: Error 2 The type or namespace name 'Globalization' does not exist in the namespace [my namespace] (are you missing
    an assembly reference?)
Windows phone and mvc projects are working fine and I've installed all the updates and even tried to fix vs 2013.
    Any help Is greatly appreciated.

I did some more investigation and noticed that if I create an app with a "." in the name then this problem occurs. For example create a windows store project with the default name "App1": this will compile.
However if I name the project "App1.Forms" to correspeond with the default namespace I want, then this problem occurs.  Still investigating but anyone should be able to repro it with that step.

  • Internet Explorer 9 not showing as not installed when using Windows Update - Error: Code 9C48 Windows Update encountered an unknown error.

I built a few new Windows Server 2008 R2 with SP1 VMs today and ran into a problem where Windows Update is not detecting the fact that Internet Explorer 9 is already installed. Internet Explorer 9 keeps showing up as an available update when
using Windows Update. When I try to install it as a test I get the error message: Code 9C48 Windows Update encountered an unknown error.
My normal build procedures include applying all the patches for the OS prior to any other work on the servers. The way I like to do the patching is to do every update other then IE9 in the begininng and once all the other updates have been
completed, install IE9 and then patch it if there are updates available. I followed this procedure on every build for the last year and I have not run into any issues until today. The only difference today is the latest patches that were released yesterday
April 10th, 2012. To test the theory that it may be one of the latest patches, I reinstalled Windows from scratch making sure to format the disks and then I installed IE9 right after the OS install without any other updates. Once the
server was rebooted, I checked Windows Update and Internet Explorer 9 still showed up as update (Not the Cumulative Update which normally shows up after an IE9 install) and yes, I did make sure to click the 'Check for Updates' link before I looked just
in case. My next test was to patch a couple of the servers I had built prior to April 10th, 2012. Those servers did not have any issues with the latest updates and they are not experiencing the same behavior as the newly built servers.
I ended up comparing the IE9 Version on the cleanly install OS (No updates were installed except IE9) and the servers I built last week which were patched. The versions are exactly the same.
My findings above lead me to believe that there is a problem with the latest IE9 install package (which includes the latest cumulative update) and the Windows Update detection component.
I guess I am looking for someone to report this up the chain to get this fixed so no one else runs into this problem. I know in some cases we may not be able to see additional IE9 updates until this is resolved.

I just started having the same problem.
I was creating a new VM in Vsphere from our 2008 R2 SP1 image and it hasn't been updated and repacked in a while, so i have to install about 60 updates, including IE9.
I went through my normal setup as i had just created 2 VMs and updated them on Monday with no problem.
I got the same error code as you. The install looks like it installed IE9, but the update is still showing up as available in Windows Update.
I deleted the VM, created a new one, chose all updates except IE, then did that and it still shows up again.
Then i deleted the VM, installed just IE 9 and it still shows up as available on reboot.
I have a script that i can use to reset/clear WSUS cache on the computer, (Software distribution folder, and the windows update log, and recreates a certificate), so i tried that and then rebooted and it still showed up.
I then decide ok, maybe the Image got messed up somehow, so i started creating a new 2008 R2 install from scratch last night and chose to update just IE9 as the first install. I did that, rebooted and it didn't show up in Windows Updates, so i though GREAT.
I proceed to kick off the 100+ downloads needed before i left and left the console up.
When i got in to work this morning, the updater seemed stuck on 31 of 102 updates, this one in particular: KB288516. I rebooted the computer, because it wouldn't stop and just seemed stuck since last night, which these updates should only have taken about
an hour to install at most. I log back in and sure enough, it now shows Internet Explorer 9 at the bottom of the update list as being needed for install.
I believe this is Patch Tuesday week, so maybe they screwed up something with the Windows Update detection engine, because it worked fine on Monday when i had to update IE9 on 2 VMs that i created.

  • Button- opens new window- updates original window

I have been going crazy with this one. I have created a row of jlabels based upon data in an object. at the end of the row is an edit button that opens a new window to edit the data. in the new window is a submit button. every thing almost works how i want it to. the data is updated but is not showing up again unless hit the edit button again (I think that the thread is just not finishing but it could be a logic error: I have an action listener nested in an action listener). I tried moving data update calls to inside the action performed area of submit edit but that only slowed label updating further. any ideas would be great.

hey zadok, I'll send the other 5 dukes to any response from you to this question and I won't harp on any answer. I am new to programming and have been studying for about 6-9 months on my own. This is really my first complete program that I am working on. I have read that getters and setter undermine the object oriented approach as per:
Why getter and setter methods are evil written by Allen Holub at javaworld.com
    http://www.javaworld.com/javaworld/jw-09-2003/jw-0905-toolbox.html
am i overreading into it when I try to contain the problem into an object so that i don't have to write about a dozen getters and setters.

  • Error 0x80248014 on Windows Update on Windows 10 Technical Preview Enterprise beta build 9926.

    Hi
As I download the new ISO and do a software Windows Updates.
I cannot seems to get any software updates at my end. Windows update cannot find any updates for Windows Defender.
My latest Windows 10 Technical Preview version 9926 cannot seems to find any software updates.
    I keep getting this error.0x80248014!
I keep getting this error since I have the first Beta Build 9841 and 9879. I did not have the download of 9860.
I wonder there is a missing Windows Update at the Control Panel.
I have to search all over the place where is the Windows Update??? The GUI is very confusing for a First Timer like me!
    See my screen capture.

    mrdbeta,
Click the Retry button > if you have a Windows defender Update available, it will show up on the list together with a new build such as 9935 Professional. (See my screenshot at the end of the post.)
The system will start installing and when it finishes, it will give you the same error message. That's OK. It shows the error message because it is unable to install the new build which is NOT applicable to
us, the general users. Those new builds, 9931, 9932, 9934, and lately 9935 are meant for MSFT only.
Click Advanced options > click View your updates history. Your most recent Windows Defender update should be listed. If yes, you are OK. Nothing to worry about.
MS is well aware of the mistake. They will get it fixed soon. Please read the excerpt below from Inside Hub......
Windows Insiders who have installed KB3035129 may see reports in the Settings app under Update & recovery that a new preview build is available. Attempts to download the new build result in Error 0x80246017.
KB3035129 included a code change which unintentionally had the side effect of changing targeting for builds, allowing builds that are exclusive to Microsoft employees to appear available. No new builds are available which are newer than 9926 at this point.
We will issue another update shortly to correct the issue and ensure that Windows Insiders are able to successfully get the next build which is made available to you. We apologize for the confusion and thank you for your continued participation
    and feedback.
***** In the web, there is a registry modification dealing with this issue. I would suggest that you just wait for MS to sort it out. If you want to try the registry hack, google for it. Use it at your own risk

  • BlueScreen Error 9f and Windows Updates won't install

I just got my new T430 machine on Monday, but Windows 7 is already having issues - as of the first day!
When it goes into sleep mode it ends up shutting down instead, and I get a BlueScreen 9f error after I restart.  When I try to install Windows Updates (I looked up this problem and I found information on the biometric fingerprint software causing problems - a problem that might be fixed with windows updates) it keeps failing.  While it is trying to update, my computer shuts down.
It's brand new (it's actually a replacement for my last T430 that was having too many issues), and I'm worried.  Any ideas what the issue could be?  Is this something I just have to contact support for, or can I fix this myself?  I've tried searching online for solutions, but no luck yet.
    Greatly appreciate any help, thanks!

    Hi, cberk
I did some research on the issue and found this document from Microsoft. It seems that this issue can be caused by an outdated BIOS and drivers. Due to this, I would recommend checking that all the drivers and the BIOS has been updated. It sounds like a few parts of your computer aren't communicating properly, which is most likely due to outdated drivers. The latest drivers for your system can be found here.
    Hope it helps,
    Adam

  • Vista Home Premium - Error code 80070490 - Windows update

    Computer - Satellite 200
Operating system - Vista Home Premium (service pack 1)
Problem - When I try to update from Windows Update (both manual and automatic) I get error code 80070490
I have tried - System restore, downloading and paying for "RegCure" and following instructions on Microsoft forum all without success.
The computer was supplied with a recovery disk which does not have "repair" facility.
If you have a solution that does not involve a full re-load I would be very grateful
Please make instructions comprehensible to a non-techno!
    Thank you

This error may occur if the older Windows Update engine files cannot be
replaced by Windows Update Agent 3.0 (7.0.6000.374).
To troubleshoot this issue, I suggest we first reset permission and
    reinstall Windows Update Agent 3.0.
    Step 1: Reset permission
    ================
    1. Please download the subinacl.msi file from the following link and save
the installation patch onto the Desktop:
    http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...inityDownloads
    2. Please go to the Desktop and double click the downloaded file.
    3. Please select the C:\Windows\System32 folder as the Destination Folder
during the installation. Later we will use this tool to reset the permission
    settings on the current machine.
Note: If UAC (User Account Control) window is prompted for permission to
    continue, please click Continue.
    4. Click the Start Button, in the Start Search bar, type: "notepad" (without
    quotes) and press Enter.
    5. Copy the following commands and then paste them into the opened Notepad
    window:
    @echo off
    subinacl /subkeyreg HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE /grant=administrators=f
    subinacl /subkeyreg HKEY_CURRENT_USER /grant=administrators=f
    subinacl /subkeyreg HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT /grant=administrators=f
    subinacl /subdirectories %SystemDrive% /grant=administrators=f
    subinacl /subkeyreg HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE /grant=system=f
    subinacl /subkeyreg HKEY_CURRENT_USER /grant=system=f
    subinacl /subkeyreg HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT /grant=system=f
    subinacl /subdirectories %SystemDrive% /grant=system=f
    @Echo =========================
    @Echo Finished.
    @Echo =========================
    @pause
    6. After pasting the above commands, please close the Notepad window. Choose
Save when you are prompted to save the file. Type "reset.bat" as the file
name and choose Desktop from the left panel as the save location.
    7. Refer to the Desktop and right click the reset.bat file, then choose "Run
    as administrator."
    8. You will see a DOS-like window processing.
NOTE: It may take several minutes, please be patient. When it is finished,
you will be prompted with the message: "Finished, press any key to continue".
Step 2: Reinstall Windows Update Agent 3.0
    ===========================
    1. Please download the file from the following link:
    Windows Vista (32bit)
    http://download.windowsupdate.com/v7...gent30-x86.exe
    Windows Vista (64bit)
    http://download.windowsupdate.com/v7...gent30-x64.exe
    2. Save the file to D: drive.
Note: Please select a drive where Windows Vista was not loaded because the
file cannot be launched directly from the system root directory.
    3. Click Start->Run, type: "D:\WindowsUpdateAgent30-x86.exe /wuforce"
(without quotations) and then press Enter to install the Windows Update
    engine.
Note: There is a space between "D:\WindowsUpdateAgent30-x86.exe" and
    "/wuforce"
Now, let's run Windows Update again.

  • Continued Error 800706F7 during Windows Update

I've been trying to perform Windows Updates for several weeks but receive error
800706F7 each time. I've scoured forums and Windows Fixits trying to find a solution and 99% of the time I'm pointed to the
3004394 Root Certificate update from December 2014 as being the culprit. Uninstalling this update normally allows updates to be downloaded and installed- the problem is fixed.
This is not the case in my situation. Below are some of the steps I've tried to try to resolve the issue:
Run 3004393 uninstall tool (doesn't work)
Try to install 3004394 so I can remove it again (can't install)
    Windows Update Standalone Package
    Windows Update Diagnostic tool
Start / stop: BITS, Crypto, Windows Update
System File Check (says there are corrupt files but cannot repair)
    Check Disk
    Clearing Windows/SoftwareDistribution folder
Various Windows Update Fixits from Microsoft.com
    Uninstall .NET Framework 4.5.2
    Re-validating Windows
Reviewing CBS.log, WindowsUpdate.log and a few other log files. I couldn't determine anything from them though.
After each of those attempts, and what seems like a hundred restarts, the problem remains. Any help would be much appreciated- I've spent way too much time trying to fix this!

    Hi jpinney,
Some required information are needed for us to help you.
Please make sure your system wasn't cloned from another hard disk and time zone was set correctly, temporarily disable firewall for good measure.
We might need your Windows update troubleshooter results and SFC details for this issue
Run findstr /c:"[SR]" %windir%\logs\cbs\cbs.log >sfcdetails.txt in Command Prompt after SFC /scannow so you could get a detail report in C disk.
If SFC cannot fix your system corruption, you might need to manually replace the corrupted file with a known good copy of the file.
Also try fixing Windows corruption errors by using the DISM or System Update Readiness tool
