Error 8288: trying to upgrade software on ipod touch 1.1.5 to 3.1.1

This error has been around this forum a couple of times. The only solution I saw, was contacting iTunes support: How to report an issue with Your iTunes Store purchase

  • Error when trying to upgrade to iOS6 ipod touch

It is my daughters iPod touch that i am having an issue with. Each time I try to upgrade to version 6.0.1 via itunes I get the error: There was a problem downloading the software for the iPod "Daughters iPod". The service is temporarily unavailable.
I click on the more info button but everything is up to date, there are no other things plugged into a USB, etc, etc. I am not sure what to do.
Have tried on 2 different PC's but to no avail. Can anyone assist?
The version is 4.2.1 if that make ANY difference.
I have tried a number of times over the last few days so doubt that it is an actual busy server issue.
    Thanks for your help,
    John

NIcolas, Looks like one of th eupgrde steps failed. You will have to open a tac case here as most likely tac will need to get into expert mode adn make some changes to permit you to complete the install. Matthew

  • How do you upgrade software on ipod touch i am trying to download games to it.

How do i upgrade i pod touch so i can play games.

My guess is that you have a first generation iPod Touch.  Yu can go as high as iOS 3.1.3 for that iPod.  That is a paid update and you can get it here:
Purchasing iOS 3.1 Software Update for iPod touch (1st generation)
If you do not have a 1G ipod, please tell us what model iPod yu have.  See the following:

And what computer OS and version you have and just what games you want to use.

  • HT201263 Elusive connection error whilst trying to restore 2nd Gen iPod Touch device (iOS 4.2) via iTunes

    Hi.
It's been a while since I've updated my iPod, and now that I've tried to update it (from iOS 4.2), whenever I click the 'Check for new updates' [for my iPod] button, iTunes states that the latest version is already installed, which obviously is NOT the case.
I am using the latest version of iTunes, and have already tried re-installing it.
After attemping to update, the next logical step was to restore, despite losing some of my data this way, for I currently have no-choice but to update via a different system to my usual managing computer of my device(s). However, an unexplained error occured, and my iPod is stuck in recovery mode (displaying that 'connect to iTunes' image it shows at this point).
Now, I've tried repeatedly to restore th iPod via iTunes, but it just won't work - as it is 'extracting software' (as indicated at the top of iTunes' window), it stops, giving a rather vague error: 'The iPod "iPod" cannot be restored at this time because the iPod software update server could not be contacted or is temporarily unavailable'.
I have no idea why this occcurs repeatedly, as it is persistent to do so.
I'd also like to confirm that my system is correctly connected to the internet at a speed that should be ample to install any required updates (furthermore, this error occurs after no-more-than 1 minute after attempting to restore the device)
    Thanks in advance
    ~mini.

Thanks, but you don't happen to know anything else about this, do you?
Also, I've now realised it was pointless trying to update my iPod, for I've now found-out that the 2G can't be updated past 4.2.1 (or something) anyway >_>

  • Error while trying to sync 1st generation iPod touch

iTunes always show an error sign when I try to sync my 1st generation iPod touch. Anyone knows if it is because the latest iTunes cannot support it or it is due to other issues? I'm afraid to restore it, in case everything disappears and I can't use it anymore.

Just what error(s) are you getting?

  • I am trying to restore an older iPod Touch, but do not have the passcode.  I am getting an error message saying that I need to free up some space, but I cannot because I don't have the passcode and have never synced this device to my account.  Help..

I am trying to restore an older iPod Touch, but do not have the passcode.  I am getting an error message saying that I need to free up some space, but I cannot because I don't have the passcode and have never synced this device to my account.  Help..

If it is asking for the screen-lock passcode then:
Place the iOS device in Recovery Mode and then connect to your computer and restore via iTunes. The iPod will be erased.
iOS: Wrong passcode results in red disabled screen
If recovery mode does not work try DFU mode.
How to put iPod touch / iPhone into DFU mode « Karthik's scribblings
    For how to restore:
    iTunes: Restoring iOS software
    To restore from backup see:
iOS: Back up and restore your iOS device with iCloud or iTunes
If you restore from iCloud backup the apps will be automatically downloaded. If you restore from iTunes backup the apps and music have to be in the iTunes library since synced media like apps and music are not included in the backup of the iOS device that iTunes makes.
You can redownload most iTunes purchases by:
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store
If problem what happens or does not happen and when in the instructions? When you successfully get the iPod in recovery mode and connect to computer iTunes should say it found an iPod in recovery mode.
    Otherwise follow varjak paw recommendation

  • Updating iPod touch to iPhone 3.0 Software for iPod touch, getting error 14

I recently tried to update my 2g iPod touch to the 3.0 software. During the installation, I got an error message saying that an "unknown error 14" has occurred. This happened during the restoration process, and then my iPod just gave me the screen with the USB cable and the iTunes logo. iTunes then told me to restore the ipod, and during that restoration process, I got the same error. I also tried doing the restore manually by finding the iPod software on my hard drive, and then option-clicking on the restore button the find the software and then install. If anyone has any fixes or suggestions for this problem, they would be greatly appreciated.

Ok. I have spent the last 8 hours researching this problem and have the absolute 110% answer to everyone's problem with this issue.
Error 13 and 14 : Are checksum problems with the firmware image that is in the update package.
The update package is a .ipsw (IPod or IPhone SoftWare). This file is actually just a .zip renamed .ipsw.
The error is caused by a failure to download a crc-free version of the file. Not really sure why there are so many crc problems with the iphone updates, but Apple does not check the integrity of the update package before wiping your current version of IPhone software and that is why all IPhones that start an update with a bad update package end up in recovery mode. These errors are NOT related to the iTunes installation, antivirus software, or firewalls.
Recommendation : use a program like "Object Fix" (Freeware) to verify the integrity of the file prior to commencing with any new updates. You will have to keep trying to download it until you get a error free file. Once you have a CRC error free file this problem will go away. (I thought TCP/IP helped get rid of CRC errors.)
I had another problem and that was...
Error 1603 and 1604 : These are USB driver connectivity problems.
Recommendation : FULLY uninstall and re-install itunes software as stated in the Apple support documentation. Be sure to reboot between each step and these problems should clear themselves up. In addition, firewalls and anti-virus software may cause these errors as well.
Finally, shame on apple for not properly documenting their software so that end users do not have to decrypt their error messages with no true support to solve the issues. These are problems that enough people have had that there should be specific documentation on these problems.

It is recommended that I ask for help, which put me here. What I really need is some customer service — not a chat room!

    If Windows :
Quit Creative Cloud desktop application .
Launch Photoshop cc 2014 application from C: > Program Files > Adobe Photoshop CC 2014 .
Once launched , click on Help menu in Photoshop cc 2014 and select Updates option .
    It should update.
    If Mac:
Quit Creative Cloud desktop application .
Launch Photoshop cc 2014 application from Applications folder:
Once launched , click on Help menu in Photoshop cc 2014 and select Updates option .
Let me know if you face any error .
Error 49 occurs while updating the application , when Creative Cloud app  does not have reference / Access to installed CC app, so that it can apply updates for the same .
You can try to update from CC app  like Photoshop itself and check.
