Error -9183 in iTunes build 7.01-7

Hi,
I've been trying to create a new account for iTunes, so that I can purchase music - however, everytime i click to sign up, the program prompts me with an error message quoting that my network connection is not active (Error -9183) I use the Rogers Network here in Canada, running a Powerbook G4, the firewall settings have been untouched by myself. I also have a router (but I'm pretty sure the uPNP settings and NAT settings haven't been altered) -- any words of advice?
- Thank You.
Powerbook G4'   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

I can't provide a solution, but I have the exact same situation. I can connect to the music store, but not login.
Same error, same build, I'm on a router but no firewall.
Love to hear the solution or suggestions.
Are the error messages listed somewhere with more explaination?

  • .itl file is locked error after installing new build - iTunes won't open

After upgrading to the new build itunes won't open. I receive an error message "The iTunes Library .itl file is locked, on a locked disk, or you do not have write permission for this file." When I check permissions I have full control. I tried uninstalling all apple components - iTunes, Quicktime, apple updater - rebooting and then reinstalling but the same error message comes up when I try to start itunes.

Even after uninstalling the .itl file remained in my itunes music folder. I deleted this file after uninstalling again and then reinstalled and the issue was resolved.

  • Error in the iTunes Store

This needs a new thread. I am another Windows XP user who, after trying all manner of diagnostics & checks, has determined that the Apple Store is on the fritz. I have not been able to download & now the iTunes store is completely unavailable to me (11:25 AM EDT, 10/22/06). Here are my diagnostics:
Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition Service Pack 2 (Build 2600)

    iTunes 7.0.1.8
    Current user is an administrator.

    Firewall Information
    Windows Firewall is off.
Connection attempt to Apple web site was successful.
Connection attempt to iTunes Store was successful.
Secure connection attempt to iTunes Store was successful.
AND YET, the error message I get when I attempt to open the iTunes Store is:
WE COULD NOT COMPLETE YOUR ITUNES STORE REQUEST. THE NETWORK CONNECTION COULD NOT BE MADE. THERE WAS AN ERROR IN THE ITUNES STORE. PLEASE TRY AGAIN LATER.
And I have been "trying again later" for two days. Apple, are you listening? Can you hear the flood of dollars rushing out of your coffers? Can somebody fix this problem, or at least acknowledge it?

Addendum: I have tried everything - all the advice - offered here, and nothing changes the fact that iTunes Store will not open for me. Here's what I have tried:

And the old, Service-Pack 2 business is a moot point. I have been using iTunes for a long time & have never had trouble until Friday evening (10/20/06). Escuchas, apple?

Whenever I try to connect to itunes store it comes up with an error message: The itunes store is temporarliy unavailiable. Please try again later.

The steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes and then rebuilding it which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach. Review the other boxes and the list of support documents further down the page in case one of them applies.
The further information area has direct links to the current and recent builds in case you have problems downloading, need to revert to an older version or want to try the iTunes for Windows (64-bit - for older video cards) release as a workaround for installation or performance issues, or compatibility with QuickTime or third party software.
Your library should be unaffected by these steps but there are also links to backup and recovery advice should it be needed.

  • Unknown Error Message in Itunes. (-9808)

    Hi all,
Currently I have itunes installed on a external/portable Hard Drive.
It has been working relatively ok. However, just a moment ago I tried to do an update (latest version on iTunes) and the error message came up. Then I tried to
download an App from the Itunes Store and the same message poped up.
    Message:
*We could complete your iTunes Store request. An unknown error occured (-9808)*
There was an error in the iTunes store. Please try again later.
I have gone to *Help > Check for Update.* and the update box appears asking if I would like to update iTunes. However, when I accept it does nothing, and does not update iTunes.
I am wondering if having my iTunes installed on an external Drive is the reason why my its not functioning properly.
I have organised for all iTunes files to be set up on the external, so I would assume that it would work ok.
Would anyone have a clue what I have done wrong?
Your help would be greatly appreciated!

I have posted the results below. However, these are the results from one computer I use. I am normally switching between two computers; My computer at work and my computer at home.

  • I want to Sync my iPhone 4 to iTunes however I get an error message from iTunes each time I connect the phone to the PC saying that I should restore to factory settings. Frustrating because it's already annoying enough that I can't drag and drop mp3's!!!

I have never been so frustrated before in my life with any phone. I find it obnoxious as it is that I cannot simply drag and drop files (especially MP3's) straight from my PC directly into my phone, which I have been used to doing up until now. Everyone who convinced me to get the iPhone has instructed me that my frustration can be fixed by downloading iTunes and syncing it all up via that program (which I have never used before). So, I downloaded the program successfully, however when I connect the iPhone 4 to the PC and iTunes is open, I get an error message that 'iTunes cannot read the content of the iPhone "iPhone" and that I should go to the Preferences tab of the iPhone and select 'restore' to restore this phone to factory settings. First of all, I don't understand why I need to do that. I have already downloaded apps and other important things in the 2 days that I have the phone. I am also scared that it will erase my contacts. This is such a headache. Music is very imporatant to me, but I am getting so frustrated that I don't have freedom over the phone which I thought was supposed to be one of the best out there. I would really appreciate help in this matter. I am sure the phone is great but I am on the verge of taking it back and getting something else.

    Hey joshuafromisr,
If you resintall iTunes, it should fix the issue. The following document will go over how to remove iTunes fully and then reinstall. Depending on what version of Windows you're running you'll either follow the directions here:

    or here:

    Hi pussygalore,
If you are having issues with iTunes after an attempted update, you may find the following article helpful:
iTunes 11.1.4 for Windows: Unable to install or open
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS5376
You may want to make sure that in the last step (reinstalling iTunes) that you are installing the latest/newest available version, and not attempting a reinstall from an older file.

  • Error on installing iTunes under Win 8

Error on installing iTunes under Win 8
I have recently upgraded to Win 8.  When installing iTunes the following error shows:
"An error occurred during the installation of assembly 'Microsoft.VC80.CRT.type="win32",version"8.0.50727.4053.publicKeyToken="1fc8b3b 9a1e18e3b",processorArchitecture="amd64". Please refer to Help and Support for more information HRESULT:0x80073715.
I am running the ITunes x64 install.  I have installed the V++ redistributable with no change in result.
I have subsequently downloaded and manually installed via the Apple Software update program iTunes.  However this does not allow my iPad to be connected as it is not the x64 version.

After spending an entire day on this issue, I figured out something that worked.  After installing Windows 8 (64-bit) then Visual Studio 2012 (or 2013) then the latest 64-bit iTunes app, I got the 0x80073715 error.
What finally worked for me was:
    1) Get all the Windows updates and hotfixes - especially the ones for Visual Studio.
    2) Go to http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=14431 and download the "Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Service Pack 1 Redistributable Package ATL Security Update"
    3) Only install vcredist_x64.exe.
After running these steps, I was able to completely install iTunes on my Windows 8 64-bit instance.
    Hope this helps.

Try each, starting at the top, in order, checking after each to see if it fixes the issue.

Well I was able to successfully revert back to iTunes8. Here's my steps:
    1. In Add/Remove Programs I deleted all Apple products (iTunes, QuickTime, Safari, Bonjour, etc.)
    2. I then check C:\Program Files\ and made sure all folders were deleted (QuickTime, etc.)
    3. I then ran a Registry Cleaner program to make sure all entries from Apple products were removed.
    4. I then rebooted my PC
    5. I then downloaded iTunes8.0.2 from here: http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/apple/ipod_itunes/itunes802forwindows.html
    6. After it installed it said it could use my iTunes library file because it was created with a newer version. So I re-created my library by following these steps: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1451
It took some time but iTunes is now back up and running. And I have all my playlists, etc. I haven't tried to sync anything yet. I'm just thrilled to have my iTunes back!
