  • Hard Disk error on start up

    Hi,
I have a hard disk error on start up of my HP Pavilion Dv7-5003tx. When I run Hard disk test it fails, error code 0G8421-50N63H-0G8421-60DC03.
    How do I resolve this?
    Regards
    John.

    Hi John,
The error will either be a Smart or Disk Self Test failure - both would indicate that your Hard Drive is failing and will need to be replaced.
If your notebook is still under warranty, contact HP and arrange to have the drive replaced - you can check your warranty status Here.
If you live in the US, contact HP Here.
If you are in another part of the world, start Here.
If you are out of warranty and would like a guide on replacing the Hard Drive yourself, please let me know.

  • Error 1070023 Configured Disk volume does not exist.

    Hi
I installed Essbase 11.1.1.2 in stand alone mode. When I am trying to start Sample.Basic, I am getting the below error
Error 1002097 Unable to load database Basic.
The App log showed the following error
Error 1070023 Configured Disk volume does not exist.
    Please help..

So everything works when the volume is set to E?
If so, you might be able to use DISKVOLUMES E in the essbase.cfg file which sets a default (for BSO cubes, at least), but you shouldn't have to do that.
The DISKVOLUMES documentation says that the volume that contains your ARBORPATH is the one used by default. Not completely sure I trust that it's up to date, and isn't now ESSBASEPATH or something else, but regardless, do those variable all look to be set correctly? To be honest, that's a longshot, as I'd be surprised if a missing / incorrect value there wouldn't cause bigger problems...

  • ERROR: Cannot start mail services, configuration directory does not exist

I'm running an Xserve G5 with one internal boot drive and one RAID using the other two internal drives. I used Apple's Disk Utility to set-up the RAID.
Back in early December, I moved my mail database and mail store to the RAID. Ever since, when I restart the server, the mailaccess.log generates the following error:
Jan 23 18:51:33 mail master[47]: ERROR: Cannot start mail services, configuration directory does not exist: /Volumes/RAID/mail.data/db
I'm speculating this is a timing error that gets created when Postfix initially can't find the RAID. Then, it must try again and find it because the error message does not repeat and mail starts running.
Is this something to worry about?

    Hi Joel,
You're right, it's a timing issues. The mail system is ready for work before the file system is mounted. It's benign.

I understand that your desktop computer is giving you an error message stating that the boot disk could not be detected, and I would be happy to assist you in this matter!
To ensure that your hard drive you computer is trying to boot from is in working order, I recommend following the steps in this document on Testing for Hardware Failures (Windows 8). This should help determine if there is a fault with the hard drive.
If the hard drive passes all of the required tests, I recommend returning the BIOS back to its default settings by following this document on Recovering the BIOS.
Please re-post with the results of your troubleshooting, and I look forward to your reply!

  • Why does iPhoto say "Error writing to disk"?

When I go on iPhoto I click on the "import all" button and try imorting my pictures from my iPhone to my mac and after a while of importing it completely stops and a window pops out saying "Error writing to disk" and I really don't know what to do to this solution.

    Hello JJ,
Could be many things, we should start with this...
    "Try Disk Utility
    1. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
    2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu at the top of the screen. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.
    3. Click the First Aid tab.
    4. Select your Mac OS X volume.
    5. Click Repair. Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk."
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106214
Then try a Safe Boot, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, reboot when it completes.
(Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive.)

  • I am facing recurrent failing message on my MacBook Air as follows : "your starting disk is fully soon"...how can I solve this issue?? Thks in advance for your help

I am currently facing a following error message "Please note your starting disk is upcoming full"... It does appear I did a mistake, could someone help me by solving this issue?? Thks José

No mistake, you simply have to delete some items from your MacBook Air.
Start by emptying the Trash - obvious, but easily overlooked.
Then determine what, if any, documents, photos, movies, etc. you can live without and either delete them or copy them to another device.

  • Time Machine Error:  "The backup disk image could not be created."  Help.

I have two Macbook Pro's. One is able to backup to the Time Capsule with no problems. The other connects just fine to Airport Utility, but I get the following error after I attempt to backup: Time Machine Error: "The backup disk image could not be created."
I have reset the Time Capsule several times, so that is not the fix.
The first thing I see when attempting to open Time Machine is the following message: :The storage location for Time Machine Backups can't be found." It gives me the option to setup the Time Capsule, which I select. The next thing I select is to Change Disk. The window that opens has the Icon with Three people on it. The name of that Icon is The Moreman Time Capsule. I select it, and enter the password I created. I then choose to Backup. Then I choose to backup now. That is when I get the error: Time Machine Error: "The backup disk image could not be created."
Any ideas? Has anyone encountered this problem?

You have to delete the .dmg file and start over. This happened to me 3 times already, I finally switched to Déjà Vu, works perfect and only once a day instead of 24 times a day.

  • HT4848 Error creating recovery disk in Disk Assist

I've carefully followed all instruction in this post: http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4848, but I am having an error when creating the recovery disk.
The recovery Disk Assist starts creating it, but stops early on. The message I get is titled "Conclusion," and it says "The recovery drive wasn't created. There was an error creating recovery disk."
Can anyone help me with this? I followed all the steps in the post above and I also created the partition on the external drive.
I really need to wipe out my computer and make it appear "as new" because I am selling it. Any help would be great!
    Thanks!

Same happened to me.  This makes absolutely no sense, but I just kept trying and trying then it finally worked.  For me, it hasn't been worth the bother.  These restore DVDs don't work like the ones I made for an Acer laptop, for example.  On my Acer, I repartitioned, reformatted my drive and was easily able to restore my computer before I sold it.  I've been going nuts trying to restore my computer after a clean install of Windows 7.  Still can't get it to work.

    Hi,
after moving the iTunes library on a new PC I get the following error message starting iTunes:
Because I use a german Windows version here is the error message in german:
"Es befindet sich kein Datenträger im Laufwerk. Legen Sie einen Datenträger in Laufwerk \Device\Harddisk7\DR7 ein."
I try this message in english:
"There is no disk in the drive. Insert a disk into drive \Device\Harddisk7\DR7" -> "Cancel", "Retry" or "Continue".
No matter what I click to open the media library and it seems everything to work. Music can be accessed device can be synct.
Has anyone any idea how I can fix this error?
Thank you and greetings from Germany
    Marcus

I just started running into this error, too.
I'm running 8.2.1.6 on a Windows Vista Premium 64-bit OS. Plenty of speed, RAM, very fast capable machine.
I am running my iTunes library off of an external hard disk. Could that be the issue, it's just not ready fast enough when iTunes launches?
Just thought I'd post in case it helps answer the issue.
    Thanks

  • "Start Disk" out of space Following Backup..

I have a 250 GB HD on my MacBook which is running Snow Leopard. I had 80 GB's free prior to this situation.
I use Time Machine and SuperDuper, saving both backups to separate external HD's.
I was trying to schedule a second SuperDuper backup on another external HD that I use for miscellaneous files. The job ran, but eventually gave an error message that there was not enough space on the external HD to complete the backup.
I exited SuperDuper and navigated to the external HD via FINDER. I highlighted the ??? .sparcebundle ???? file created by SuperDuper and selected Move To Trach. This file was approximately 150 GB's in size.
    THAT'S WHEN THINGS WENT SOUTH
I suddenly began receiving pop up messages that my starter disk ( I believe that is what it said ) was full. I selected TRASH and attempted to empty it. After a reboot the machine would not come up...it would get past the grey Apple logo screen but then it would hang on a blue screen.
I was able to boot into single user mode and found that I only had 2 ( two ) GB's of available disk space. I deleted 50 GB's of "stuff" and deleted the Trash. I was then able to reboot. I ran a disk inventory program that shows where files are residing on the HD as well as their size.
I can't find this mysterious "chunk" of data that is taking up the remainder of my hard drive disk space.
I have tried doing a Time Machine restore but every time it begins it asks for my Admin password. Once I enter it, nothing happens.
I am also unable to do a restore from SuperDuper. When I select the original source to be used as the backup I can select the .sparcebunle from my external HD but when I go to select the destination ( my Macbook HD ) that selection is greyed out.
Can anyone shed light on what may have happened, how I can find this mysterious chunk of data and delete it, or how / if I can get Time Machine to do a successful full restore.
I'm a stickler for backing up my machine but the very first time I need to be able to do a restore I can't. Errrrgggggg.....
    Thanks !

Thank you x1000 V.K. I didn't know any of that and REALLY appreciate you explaining it. I still have a question if you have a moment...
I have the Snow Leopard Upgrade disk that I purchased a while back... the one that cost $29.99 or $39.99 ( can't recall ). Is this the disk you were referring to when you said to reboot, hold "C" etc?
    yes.
About SuperDuper.... what settings should I use in the future... I'm not very familiar with the program and must have just selected the "sparsebundle" without really understanding the various options.
superduper has a very straightforward interface. when you start it there are two buttons to choose the source drive and the destination drive. so you choose the drives that you want. that's it. just don't choose to back up to a disk image.
    Again.. THANKS !!!
