Error causing drive ejection

Hi,
First of all let me know if this is the correct forum for my post.
I receive the following error in my kernel.log file every couple of days:

Whenever I see this error OS X ejects this and pops up an error message. I have looked around on the forums and have seen others mentioning issues with USB devices containing the above errors but I have been unable to find a post that contains the actual fix.
I can always take the disk back to Costco and move off to a firewire hard drive but I'd actually like to understand why I continue to have this error every couple of days.
I have a Western Digital My Book Mirror Edition configured as a RAID 1. I had purchased this drive prior to my Mac Mini and was using it on Linux. The drive was configured with Western Digital's raid software under Windows, then attached to my Linux system and reformatted as an EXT3 w/journalling. I had used the drive for many months before purchasing my Mac Mini. I don't recall this problem with Linux as it's quite obvious it's not working when I lose my references to my iTunes music and videos and the mounted volume isn't present on my desktop. When moving to my Mac Mini I had reformatted with Mac OS Extended (Case-sensitive, Journaled).
I've already sent an email to Western Digital discussing this problem but I haven't received any response back.
To restore drive connectivity I need to power cycle the RAID unit and OS X mounts the volume again.

Has anyone else seen this error?
Could any other USB devices be causing any problem resulting in the above error?
Thanks for any help on this,

Exactly what version of Premiere Pro do you have?
There are basically two ways to create a sequence. Which are you using?
Manual sequence creation: File>New>Sequence, or CMD+N, or click the New button in bottom right corner of the Project panel & select Sequence
Automatic sequence creation from clip: In Project panel, drag clip to the New button (or, in 7.2 or newer, drag to an empty Timeline), or with clip(s) selected clip, go File>New>Sequence from Clip; or in Project panel, right-click a clip and select New Sequence from Clip.
What exactly does the error dialog say?
After the crash, does a dialog pop up prompting you to submit a crash log to Adobe? If so, please click "information" in the sentence above the box for entering details about what you were doing at the time of the crash. This will show the crash log. Please copy and paste it into a document and attach that to your post. Adobe doesn’t let you attach a file to forum posts due to legal and security issues, but you can upload files using Acrobat.com’s Sendnow (https://sendnow.acrobat.com) or similar services (YouSendit.com, etc.) and then insert a link to the file.

  • Equium A60-157: error caused by device driver

    Hi all,
I'm trying to write my PhD thesis at the moment and am being hampered by my laptop! It keeps randomly bringing up the blue screen of death and then restarting; when it's all loaded up, I get a 'serious error' message that says 'error caused by device driver'. As far as I know, all the programs I have are compatible... I was advised to restore factory settings, which I did a few months ago. And I've had the BIOS update suitable for my computer. But it's still happening!!
If it helps, the programs I use daily are Microsoft Word, Access and Powerpoint, Internet Explorer and MSN Messenger. I don't run any high spec games (only Minesweeper occasionally!)
What can I do? Does anyone else have this problem? Any advice would be much appreciated, as these crashes are not helping my work!
    Thanks...

    Hi guys,
I seem to have a similar problem. About a month ago I reinstalled windows using the product recovery cd and three days later I started getting a blue screen. But the error occurs only when shutting down (not always, I can`t see any pattern)- right before the shut down itself, windows has already logged off and settings are saved. The error code is 0x50 and the report says it is caused by an unknown device driver.
The day that stop error started I installed an educational software (Leankey's) for which I used a virtual cd. But at the initial launch the program "freezed" and I had to close it and open it again, there wasn`t a problem. After that I tried to copy some files on a blank cd (without using any burning software) and it said that the device was not accessible.
I tried disabling DMA but that didn`t help. In the event viewer I saw error messages that say the cdrom has a bad block. I`m not sure whether this has something to do with the stop error but they started at the same time. I can still burn cds with other software (nero). I tried to update the device driver but it didn`t help.
Maybe I have to uninstall the driver first but from the device manager when I check the properties of the device (driver details) it uninstalls the device and the driver remains. Should I delete the driver files manually? I have checked all device drivers and they are all compatible. All installed software is digitally signed. (I immediately removed the Learnkey`s software but I think it has changed some dll...
    I will appreciate any suggestions.
P.S. When I run the toshiba diagnostic tool it skips testing the cd/dvd but it doesn`t say why.

  • Shared Airport Hard Drive Ejecting with Error #-36

Hello. For Christmas I received a Western Digital Passport Hard Drive that I planned to use with my laptop. Upon finding that my laptop didn't offer up enough power to support the drive I decided to set it up as the Wireless Hard Drive on my system.
I have had some luck with using it but I have found that from time to time when I drag files to back them up I not only get an error message(Message -36) but the drive 'ejects' from my desktop. It returns but sometimes not for quite a while.
I tried to use the disk on my iMac today and found that I coulnd't connect and had to reconnect.
Any thoughts on ways to stop these problems?
    Thanks

Some users have reported success with using Time Machine for backups on a USB drive connected to the AirPort Extreme, but Apple does not officially support this function.

  • External drive ejected during "consolidate library" attempt

I have a recent mac mini running mountain lion with a 1 tb g drive connected via firewire 800 and a 2 tb seagate connected via usb.  The original itunes files are on the gdrive.  I want to consolidate and back up the music files to the Seagate but in the middle of the consolidation, the g drive spontaneously ejects and I get an error message saying i have ejected it improperly.  I had settings on so computer would not go to sleep so its not that.  I have run disk utility on both external drives, no errors.  I had this happen twice while trying to consolidate library and twice while trying a simple drag and drop of the itunes folder.  What's the deal?  Can anyone help?  Has anyone had this problem?

I have something similar on a brand new iMac 27" i7 top of the line model.  I bought a USB 3 enclosure from OCW for a 120 gig SSD. I was using it as the cache drive for Photoshop CS6.  It began to display the same issues you are describing. I brushed it off and blamed the cheap enclosure I purchased.  This all occurred 1 week ago on 1-22-2013.
On Saturday 1-26-2013 I was backing up a sweet sixteen shoot via time machine connected to the USB3 port and the drive ejected mid way of a 70 gig back up. I found that strange because I've never had a problem with that drive or the enclosure it's in. (By the way this is a USB2 enclosure)  I tried it 3 more times and the same issue occurred.  I figured it was the cable and switched it with another USB cable and this time it worked.
Not thinking much about I assumed the problem was the cable.  The next morning I realized I still had one 8 gig compact flash card in my camera and I needed to back that one up.  This time I used my USB 3 RAW STEEL UDMA card reader to ingest the work. There were only 20 images on the card. During import the compact flash drive froze on the third image. I had to force quit and redo the import again.  It took 3 times before I had no issues importing the images.  I could not figure out what the **** was going on until it hit me.
During my trouble shooting I realized the 3 drives were, when they ejected themsleves, connected to the same port in the back of my iMac.  The second one closest to the SD card reader port in the back.  That was the free port I kept switching to use these different peripherals.
I need to do a little more testing but I'm almost certain something is wrong the the USB3 ports in the back of the new computers. Never had these issues with my late 2009 iMac.
The last thing I want to is haul this machine into Apple after it took me 4 days to get it set up the way I use it for my Photography business.
    Disappointed big time!

  • Cd drive ejects on boot

    cd drive ejects on boot
it is a powermac g4 450, computer boots and works fine. the drive doesn't eject by itself any other time.
any ideas on why this is happening?

    plas1, welcome to Apple Discussions.
The problem could be due to some add-on device plugged into the computer. In particular, a malfunctioning mouse or keyboard could be sending a signal to the system to eject the disk.
To solve this problem, unplug all external devices and restart the computer to see if the problem still occurs. If the drive does not pop open or eject the disk, then one of the devices plugged into the computer was causing the problem. Take the keyboard by itself and plug it into the computer, then restart the computer and see of the drive opens or the system ejects the disk inside; if it doesn't, plug the mouse in and restart again. Continue to add the equipment back onto the computer one piece at a time and restarting until the drive opens or the system ejects the disk; the last piece of equipment added to the system is responsible for causing the drive to open.

  • Backup drive ejects after TM backup

    Hi
I am not sure if this has already been covered, as there are various similar posts, so please accept my appologies if it has.
I have an external 1TB WD My Passport drive which I use for TM backup's.  When I plug in via USB, DriveUnlock appears.  I unlock the drive, then instigate a TM backup.  All goes fine, then from what I can gather, when the TM backup has finished, the drive ejects itself.  There is no error messages, unmount drive issues, it just dissappears from finder.  I can only assume the backup has been successful, as no error messages appear, meaning the drive wasn't ejected while backup was in progress.  I have changed the USB cable, as well as tried different ports, but the same always happens.  In System Preferencies/Energy Saver, I have made sure the Put HD to sleep is un ticked.  Still it happens.  Has anyone else had this problem, and is it fixable?  I would love to keep the drive attached and backing up for  the period I am working, usually 12 hours a day, rather than the once a day at the moment.
    thanks

If you're using the drive with Time Machine, you don't need WD's SmartWare backup software.  It may be conflicting with TM.  Uninstall it.

  • DVD-R Drive ejects blank discs.

I have an Intel iMac G5. My DVD-R drive ejects all blank discs. No error message comes up, just some mechanical noises prior to ejection. Having trouble finding the right drivers to fix this, if it is a driver issue.

yes, there are countless blank media types, and there is NO DVD burner out there that will feed them all.
DID you switch to a new DVD blank media?
Also cheap DVD blank media has about a 10% reject ratio......try further down the stack

If it also ejects commercial DVD movies, you have a dirty laser diode lens.

  • Ext. hard drive ejects when MBP wakes from sleep

When I wake my MBP from sleep (by clicking the space bar), the ext. firewire hard (MyBook 500 GB) drive ejects leaving the msg. that it was not properly ejected and data might have been lost, etc. Is there a better way to wake it that won't cause the ext. hard drive to eject?

    Hi Logan,
You should post over in the Unibody forums, where you'll find many more people who own the same machine as you do (this area deals with the Original MBP).

    Hi Joe,
    Greetings!
Reset the index and re-crawl. That usually clears it
If you are using NTLM authentication, then make sure that you specified the PassThrough authentication for crawling
Probably you need to debug the BDC code that underlies the external content types.

    Sy B,
Disconnect all USB devices including a USB mouse, then restart...see if the drive tray still pops open. Some known troublemakers are Adesso Tru-Form keyboard, Griffin iMate USB/ADB adapter, Keyspan Twin serial, and possibly others.
Test each device individually, then see if updated software is available.
