"error changing modules" on mac

I have Lightroom 1.3.1 running on a 2 GHz intel mac with 2GB Ram, OSX 10.4.11.
I recentley got a new Sigma dp1 camera and shot some images in RAW, used the supplied software to process that into a tiff file that I tried to load into lightroom. The image showed up in lightroom in a different library, but when I try now to get to all of my old images I just get "an error occurred when attempting to change modules". All that shows up now is a grey screen (no side panels).
What I am really worried about saving is the settings that I have in the develop modules for my previous photos. Is there some way that I could at least save those if I need to uninstall/reinstall lightroom.
Thanks for any help.

Having same issue on Leopard 10.5. 2.4 ghz intel core 2 duo. 4 gb 667 ram.
Have tried reinstalling, but to no avail. Also tried to find plist file, but could not find a plist file that related to LR specifically, only a big list. Used Appdelete to uninstall. How do I find the plist file for LR?
Want to try installing 1.3, but am not able because some residual files on the computer won't let me install an older version. Any ideas on finding those files?
Any other suggestions?

  • Error changing modules - please please help!!

Okay, I'd be really grateful of any input here. I am on an imac, running leopard 10.5.5.
I have and love CS3. I've previously ran Lightroom 1 on a PC. when I changed over to a mac, I attempted to run lightroom 1 on it. it wouldnt run - up came the error changing modules message. a little web browsing led me to think that was because I was running such a new OS. so I left it, {trashed the install} until I got this lightroom 2.
ligthroom 2 will not run, I get to upload the software, but the screen is just the black background, no full menus and the error message ALL the time I click anything.
I've been working my way thro the troubleshooting here, and deleted the com.lists. trashed the uploda dn reinstalled. still the errors. I've finally got it uploaded on a test user name, logging myself out. however, I cannot copy or drag, or access the correctly running version once back in my 'real'user name. I have tried deleting the correct upload afterwards. . nope.
I have tried so much I'm really losing heart.
I'm totally sure that somehow uploading or attempting to upload the lightroom 1 has somehow caused this.
    what do you think?

many thanks JOhn, last night, I copied all the module folders from the working version on a different user name and put them in the {empty} modules folder {in application support/adobe/lightroom} under my name. this made the full screen of library light up, have full menus and I got very excited I'd fixed it. sadly I hadnt, when I attempted to change to slideshow or any of the other options up popped the error message again. :( I'm now off to see if I can find this .lock file.
can you tell me how to find it? where is it ? my apologies for being a little dim here, I'm way outa my depth already...

  • Lightroom CC: cannot create library: error changing modules

  • LR on Mac: Error changing modules, empty interface

I've been happily using LR 1.3.1 on Mac OS 10.5.2 for several weeks. Suddenly, on starting LR, I got an error message like "An error was encountered while changing modules". Dismissing the error dialog resulted in a completely empty LR interface, no side panels or filmstrip, just the upper bar. Any click on a module tab resulted in the same message.
Creating new catalogs, changing/reloading catalogs, nothing helped.
I've even completely wiped LR off my machine, including deleting the preferences and application support directories. I tried both installing off original CD and downloading from the website. I no longer get the message, now nothing shows up, not even the gray background. The only thing appearing is the LR menu. If I try to load an old catalog, I go back to the same message and empty LR interface.
This is a disaster. I had over 20K images cataloged. Please, someone give me an answer for this.
    Cliff

So what you are saying is that after re-installing LR you get the same message?
I am not sure if you are getting this message due to the way you set up how LR selects which catalog. As you know, you can select to open the the recent catalog or to prompt you to make the selection.
Did you do that? or maybe you forgot or maybe you didn't indicate the path where you installed your catalog

  • My new lr3 comes up with  the usual error changing modules....

Hello. I've just purchased a lot of adobe software, cs5 Production Premium and Lightroom 3. Now adobe has loaded on fine and is working, but lightroom, asks for my serial number which i enter and then continues to try open, only to come up with the frequently common issue of errors with changing modules.
Now i have only just brought a new Imac this week as well, so i have no idea how to get around it yet and from other discussions on the forum i am so confused and have no idea how to find all the files for the software.
I've deleted and reinstalled now around 9 times, even tried installing it on my external hard drive which had the same thing happen. It works fine from my guest account, but i don't want to access it all the time in there as i have nik software which i need to use through it and every time i go to use nik i have to enter my product codes, which don't seem to save as it is a guest account.
Please help, i have about 3 shoots of images i need to go through, i swapped over from my pc with cs2 on it for this software only to have these issues. I am useless as to how to even move about on the mac yet so i really need step by step instructions i am that bad!!
    thanks

It is some kind of permissions issue, and weirdly it often seems to be linked to Nik software.  I wonder if Nik's putting a file there with different permissions - did you install Nik first, by any chance?
Anyway, to fix, you can just copy the files over from the other account.  Copy the folder from the guest account after you've entered your serial number in LR3 in the guest account.  You might need to transfer them to another shared location temporarily.
From memory, primary folder to transfer is Macintosh HD / Users / [username] / Library / Application Support / Adobe / Lightroom /
Give that a shot and see if it does the trick.

  • Lightroom error, changing modules, on new iMac

    Help.
I cannot get LR5 to open on my new iMac. Using OSX 10.9.1, LR 5.3. I consistently get the 'error on changing modules' message, and no catalog will open. I cannot create a new catalog, or open an old one. I've deleted and re-installed LR, CC, all pref and support files, several times using the uninstallers, drag and trash, all no help.
Running same app, same OS, on MacBook Pro with NO problems. I had transferred images, catalogs from an old MacPro with OSX 10.7.5, but I don't see where that should cause a problem. I can put the same catalog on the MBP and LR runs fine.
    Any help sincerely appreciated.

Thanks for the reply, but I've already been all over that page.
Solution 1:  I have version 5.3. Is there a newer one?
Solution 2:  Preference files trashed multiple times with no improvement.
    Total uninstall, re-install, same problem.
Solution 3:  No better. New catalog created from within LR, same problem.
Open LR with option key, choose catalog, test for integrity, same problem.
Solution 4: Uninstalled Nik, even though it states for LR3. No better, same
problem. Note: re-installed Nik, it did not recognize LR, recognized
Photoshop without problem. BTW, Photoshop is working great.
Solution 5: Permissions are set correctly on all folders. Will re-check ONE
more time, just to be sure.
Solution 6: New user account. Have not done this yet. Hard to see why this
would be a problem, as I just obtained the computer four days ago, and I am
the only user. But in the interests of completeness, I will give it a try.
Could this be some new iMac issue? Graphics card?
    Using iMac 27", 3.5 GHz i7; 16GB RAM, 3TB Fusion drive; Nvidia GTX 780M.
This is very frustrating. I need to get back to work and something is wrong
    here.

  • "an error occurred while attempting to change modules" when launching lightroom

I get the message  "an error occurred while attempting to change modules" when I launch the app on my mac.
Every other adobe app works like Photoshop
I have followed all the troubling shooting steps in the link below, not one of them makes anything different. Except I tried the last one. I created a new account, simply logged in and launched the app and everything ran normally. No problem. However it doesn't say what to do if that works it just says try it.

Obviously this means its going to be an issue with a support file in the one user account but what one?
I also can't un install lightroom either, when I go to the creative cloud plug in on my menu bar the uninstall says its unavailable but the others are fine.
    Any ideas?

  • Program crash - Stuck on "An error occurred when attempting to change modules"

Running Mac OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion.  Installed this program and immediately got the Error noted above.  Followed all of the steps in:
    http://helpx.adobe.com/lightroom/kb/error-changing-modules-lightroom.html
but the instructions for Mac OS X are incomplete and while I could find the Library, I could not find the "com.adobe.Lightroom5.plist" file in the Library.  I have deleted and re-installed but since I cannot find the .plist file, it restarts with the same error every time.
    Thank you for any help/answers.

If you couldn't find the plist, you're probably looking at the wrong library.  Go to Finder and hold down the Opt key while you go to the Go menu and the right library will appear in that menu.
Do you have any Nik software installed?

    Hi ecl44,
This might be due to incorrect preferences / permissions issue on the Mac.
You might want to refer to the KB Doc : http://helpx.adobe.com/lightroom/kb/error-changing-modules-lightroom.html

  • LR5 "An error occurred when attempting to change modules"

    Try the options here: http://helpx.adobe.com/lightroom/kb/error-changing-modules-lightroom.html
You can also d'load the Lr5.3 version as a trial from here: https://www.adobe.com/cfusion/tdrc/index.cfm?product=photoshop_lightroom&loc=en_gb
and install that over your Lr5.0 install.

  • Lightroom: "An error occurred when attempting to change modules."

I'm a first time Lightroom(via the Cloud) user (used Capture One before this) and just downloaded it today. The first thing I saw was this error message
"An error occurred when attempting to change modules."
I've updated it to 4.3 and I've tried all the other recommendations I found here:

I don't know what Nik products are but I don't believe I have any.
    I'm on a Mac running 10.6.8
Removed this preference file I found here:

So frustrating! Please, can anyone help me???

I can only quote from the webpage that you already visited RE: Permission.
You need to have full permission for reading and writing for the folders and drives that Lr is using - particularly the folder that contains the catalog (i.e. the database Lr is working with).
If you have full permission try re-installing Lr. Un-install it via your OS. And re-install it.
Also, occasionally downloaded programs can become damaged during download - for instance when the download has been interrupted.
Before you re-install, I'd recommend that you download Lr again and use this second download for re-installation.
From the webpage (particularly read the part about Macs):
Solution 5: Set correct permissions on Lightroom folder inside Application Support
The Lightroom folder inside Application Support could have the wrong permissions preventing Lightroom from writing to it which can cause this error.
Navigate to the following folder: /Users/[user name]/Library/Application Support/Adobe/Lightroom
Highlight the Lightroom folder and chose File > Get Information
Under Sharing & Permission, verify that your have Read & Write Privileges. If not, click the padlock icon at the lower right, enter your password when prompted, then click the Read only entry and select Read & Write.
Important: (Mac OS) Apple made the user library folder hidden by default with the release of Mac OS X 10.7. If you need access to files in the hidden library folder to perform Adobe-related troubleshooting, see How to access hidden user library files.
Solution 6: Try a different user account.
Copy the Lightroom folder into a new user account or other existing account on your computer. Then, restart Lightroom. The Lightroom folder is in the following locations:
    Windows XP: C:\Documents and Settings\[user name]\Application Data\Adobe\
    Windows 7, Vista: [user name]\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\
    Mac OS: [user name]/Library/Application Support/Adobe/
Important: (Mac OS) Apple made the user library folder hidden by default with the release of Mac OS X 10.7. If you need access to files in the hidden library folder to perform Adobe-related troubleshooting, see How to access hidden user library files.
