Error code - 10660

Hi
I'm trying to download some stuff on my laptop and keep getting an error message - 10660. Does anyone know what that means?

1. Disk Directory corruption. When files go missing suddenly, this can indicate a corrupted disk directory. I recommend you run at least Steps 1 and 2 of the process specified in my "Resolving Disk, Permission, and Cache Corruption" FAQ.
2. If Installer does not reappear, and you're hard drive is AOK after point 1 above, then it is likely you (or someone else with Admin access to your computer) trashed the Installer.app and emptied the Trash.
You can attempt to reinstall it from your Mac OS X 10.4 Tiger Install DVD using the shareware application Pacifist. Pacifist has excellent usage instructions, so you should have no problems with it. Afterwards, reapply the Mac OS X 10.4.x Combo Update corresponding the version of Mac OS X you are using. This is required to pick up changes made to the installer since it was distributed on your Mac OS X install discs.

Can't open downloads to desktop (Error code - 10660)

Hi Everyone,
I'm having a problem opening documents that are downloaded to my desktop. I recieve the following error, "The operation could not be completed. An unexpected error occurred (Error code - 10660)." I can go into the required program (i.e. Microsoft Word) and open the file by going through the necessary steps, but simply clicking on the icon on the desktop gives me the above error message.
Any help or suggestions?

If you have the requisite applications to open the files, and those apps are not in the Trash, then Error Code -10660 can also indicated corruption in Launch Services. See my "Resetting Launch Services" FAQ.

Can't run System Profiler, error code -10660

Hi-
I am trying to determine if my daughter's B/W g3 (350 mhz, 512 mb, OS 10.3.9) will accept a new, modest 20" flat panel she'll be getting for Christmas.
I can't run system profiler, or disc utility to see what's under the hood. I keep getting 'error code -10660'
Any ideas?
Any recommendations for the monitor would be appreciated also. I was thinking something about $200.

If you're trying to launch the application by opening a document, select the document in the Finder, choose Get Info from the File menu, and set it to open with the correct application in the Open With section. If you're opening the application directly or through another method other than opening the document, move it to the Applications folder; that error means that the application set as the default wasn't found or is in the Trash.

Powerpoint attachment won't open: Error code 10660

Hi all,
I have recently downloaded a .pps (PowerPoint as opposed to Keynote) attachment from one of my correspondents, and on trying to open the attachment, I get the following message:
The operation could not be completed. An unexpected error occurred (error code - 10660).
Is this the fault of my iWork software (given that I have temporarily 'dumped' the trial iWork '09 into the trash) or a system failure? I'm usually able to open .pps files.
Any uncomplicated assistance would be greatly appreciated.

not sure this is helpful. but i am getting the same error code when trying to open a pdf file. also when i was changing a pages poster i had created for my website and exported it to pdf on desktop., which then wouldnt open because of the error code 1 660. i know your problem is different (sounds complicated) but this is a new problem it used to do it , but not anymore, so i think it's strange and dont know why. any clues anybody?

I can't open a WORD file unless I have already opened WORD. In the past, the computer would open the application for me and open the file. When I try, it pops a dialogue box saying: The Operation could not be completed, and in smaller type: an unexpected error occurred (error code 10660).
What went wrong, and how can I fix it?

I believe the problem has nothing to do with your Mac but with your copy of Microsoft office, the code appears to be well known by them.

Pdf/picture viewer error code -10660

I am unable to open any pdf /picture viewer files. I receive error code -10660 and cannot find error code in any listed mac codes.

If you've done work on any image and saved it in Photoshop or the app you used, it will always default to open the next time in the same app (3rd party app)...
You can change that by right click on image > get info > look half way down you'll see a "open with" option, now you can change that to Preview, you can also do this for all by selecting "change all", close and right click on image again and Preview should be the default (first option), if it worked, you can just double click on all like extensions and it should open in Preview...

Getting back to original post re: error, make sure you didn't trash Preview by accident, the error as stated earleir deals with your app being in the trash or somehow disabled...

Error message -10660 when opening files

I've just bought a MacBook Pro 17, and repeatedly (but not every time) when I try to open a document, I'm getting an error message saying "The operation could not be completed. An unexpected error occurred (error code -10660). I have checked Get Info on the document and it's set to open with the correct application. And it does... if the application is open. I'm getting the error code only when the application is closed. Any ideas?

AppleScript Error Codes

If this isn't a FAQ, it should be (but there doesn't seem to be a FAQ for this topic, and searches fail).
The question: Where can I find a list of AppleScript Error Codes.
This simple bit of code

Started generating a -10660 error, and it took me longer than it should have to discover that the script was pointing at the old version of the application that I had in the trash, and not the new version that replaced it. Easily remedied once I knew what the problem was.
So, is there a canonical link out there with AppleScript error codes?

Deeply impressed by your detective work on this error code. Wonder if you can help me with another.
I am scripting Filemaker using 'do applescript steps'. Once the AS is done i pass back info by using AS to tell FM to set one of its own fields. So for more clarity -
IN FM
Call Filemaker script
Call Applescript script
tell filemaker to set a field to the value of an AS variable
end Applescript script
end Filemaker script
and sometimes i get a -10011 Error on that Filemaker setting field step. The error message is "Data being accessed by another user,script or transaction". Can you throw any light ? (more details here)
No one else is using the db or even logged on at the time of these errors.

Cannot delete file from external hard drive (error code 36) in Finder, but Terminal is ok

I have a relatively new Macbook Pro Retina 15" and have a Western Digital 1 TB Passport. I've been using the passport for about a year now without any problems on older Macbooks in my house. I used to be able to read and write to this drive no problem. I am using the Paragon NTFS for Mac software in order to read and write to the NTFS drive. When I navigate through the drive in Finder, if I try to create a new folder, I do not have a problem. If I try to delete that folder I just created, I get this error:
The Finder can’t complete the operation because some data in “untitled folder” can’t be read or written.
(Error code -36)
The folder has nothing in it whatsoever. I just created it. But if I go to Terminal and I run
rm -rf "untitled folder"
This works fine. Why is Terminal acting different than Finder? This does not happen on my other Macbooks. Thanks in advance.

Thanx for such qucik reply!!! The pages were great, it had an answer for my problem, but unfortunately it also involved me dealing with it only on the MacIntosh HD itself, not on mounted external drive I suppose... So it didn't work they say that there is an icon in the left corner indicating locked folder - I don't see any icon on it. It says you can untick the box to unlock the folder - there is no tick to be unticked. Finally, they say that if I don't have permition or rights I cannot delete it. But how do i change permittion which already says that i can read and write in it? So everything appears to be normal only I cannot delete it. there is not even any warnig telling me I don't have enough rights, it just requires the password and after me typing it in it makes the sound of scraping paper but does nothing more. I aslo had some problems with emptying Trash after being seemingly succesful with one file and had got so far to have them appear in the Trash (no clue how this one actully got there though..) I followd the advice and emptied the Trash with Terminal. The Folder is still there but it shows 0 Kb... So far so good BUT: It is still on the external drive, so I obviously only managed to copy it into the Trash!!! Phew, innit a bit too tight to poor owners, this macbook?? I want my rights back!

Hm, it looks like the file might be open in another application. If you see that file accesss is intermittently denied, you should try disabling the Microsoft FindFast utility.

There was a recent upadate on my PC, however it does not work. A error code comes up which says, min version is not compatible with max version. And I caanot open my browser. Please help.

I do a system restore which allows me to open my browser. Without this I cannot open my browser - the error code comes up every time.

Do a clean (re)install
* Download a fresh Firefox copy from http://www.mozilla.com/firefox/all.html and save the file to the desktop.
* Uninstall your current Firefox version and remove the Firefox program folder before installing that copy of the Firefox installer.
* Don't remove personal data when uninstalling.
* It is important to delete the Firefox program folder to remove all the files and make sure that there are no problems with files that were leftover after uninstalling.

Hi
Can someone show me how it is possible to save an Oracle defined error code into a variable? What I am trying to do is when a stored procedure fails an Oracle error is raised, such as ORA-xxxx, then pass this code into variable to be saved into a log.
How do I achieve this?

i know the issue,i can give quick fix, but in-order to make sure you don't get another glitch like this.
I would recommend, you to install the scheduler in another schema or another db.
Re-installing the scheduler schema tables will fix this.
