Error Code 16 on Mac with Newly-Installed Yosemite (a Java problem?)

Like many out there I am unable to use CS6 applications at all after an OS update to Yosemite (in my case from 10.8.5, on my 2012 iMac).  I get an Error 16 message, and a Java problem error message.
I've read many posts about fixing this issue, including the Adobe gospel very specific to this problem—about changing the permissions in a couple of folders—, which I found here: https://helpx.adobe.com/x-productkb/policy-pricing/configuration-error-cs5.html   I did exactly as directed and saw no change in the problem. 
I also read that the Java version necessary for CS6 products to run on Yosemite is a boondoggle in itself.  Java 6 is apparently necessary for CS6 products to run, but that version is insecure, and besides, it's old.   Java 8 Build 31 is the current and safe version but it apparently is incompatible with none but the most recently-updated Adobe products.  Several posts on Adobe's support pages suggest a hacky fix for this Java issue, which involves downloading and installing the latest Java version from Oracle, and then creating specifically-named empty folders on one's hard drive within a couple of obscure System/Library/Java folders:

I did this too, and again saw no change in the problem.
Re-installing my CS6 suite has not worked, either.  I receive the same error code message when starting up any of the applications.  At this point I've been forced to go back to my previous operating system, since I am heavily reliant on CS6 to do my work each day. 
I understand that many people are having this trouble after updating to Yosemite, and more than a few posts on these forums indicate this is true even for people like me who've followed Adobe's purported fix that I linked above.  Has anyone in userland or at Adobe found anything lately that could help here? 

uninstall cs6 and clean (Use the CC Cleaner Tool to solve installation problems | CC, CS3-CS6).
update your os, Java for OS X 2014-001
then install cs6.

    So I am installing all the CC versions of the software and all but Photoshop, Bridge, After Effects, and Flash installed without a hitch. On those 4 programs I get the same error code: 34. I am able to install the CS6 variants of them without any problem and run it. Here is the error code:

    I have been unable to fix this on my own and with what I've found online. I'll list what I have done so far to try to fix this issue. I have tried to use the Adobe Creative Cloud Cleaner Tool but the issue is since PS, BR, AE, and FL won't install I can't clean them to try a fresh install. I tried installing the CS6 versions to see if it would dowload the 'Camera Profiles Installer_8.1".
    Any help on fixing this ASAP would be much appreciated!

    It's a better bet with a 2330, but the first thing I'd try with that is running a disk check (chkdsk) over your C drive.
    XP instructions in the following document: How to perform disk error checking in Windows XP
    Vista instructions in the following document: Check your hard disk for errors
    Windows 7 instructions in the following document: How to use CHKDSK (Check Disk)
    Select both Automatically fix file system errors and Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors, or use chkdsk /r (depending on which way you decide to go about doing this). You'll almost certainly have to schedule the chkdsk to run on startup. The scan should take quite a while ... if it quits after a few minutes or seconds, something's interfering with the scan.
    Does the chkdsk find/repair any damage? If so, can you get an install to go through properly afterwards?

    After confirming that I am not an active victim of a virus or malware, I disable my Avast AV software and once again received Error Code 80070005 when trying to install Security Update for Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5.1 on Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008
    R2 SP1 for x64-based Systems (KB2931356).
    When I attempted to implement the solutions described in http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/windows/en-US/61ce9777-aaac-41b5-ac02-eae76759d1d3/windows-update-error-80070005 and http://support.microsoft.com/kb/968003/en-us, which are slightly
    different, I received the following output immediately after running the respectively prescribed Reset file.
    I know not what to do next!

    Unless you instructor otherwise, I will implement the following steps:
    1. Download the System Update Readiness Tool from http://windows.microsoft.com/en-in/windows7/what-is-the-system-update-readiness-tool and run.
    2. Shutdown PC.
    3. Start PC.
    4. Disable Avast Free A/V SW.
    5. Install Security Update for Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5.1 on Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1 for x64-based Systems (KB2931356).
    6. Post outcome here.
    7. If install fails, upload the cbs file (windows\logs\cbs) and windows update log (%windir%\Windowsupdate.log) here for further analysis.

    When I went to install the update, seven were available and all seven failed (see below).

    First I want to say thanks for the feedback. I appreciate the support and helpful suggestions.
    Second, Epson sent me an answer of sorts...they provided detailed instructions on uninstalling the application and then told me to reinstall using the disk image from their web site (in other words, don't use their web package to "update" and existing installation). I did this and things seem to be running fine now. It's unfortunate that their update instructions don't say to do this in the first place (maybe I missed it ).
    So at one level this issue is solved. Unfortunately I'm too curious and wanted to know why the error happend in the first place. As a software developer myself (mainframe and midrange server based) I hate the "delete and reinstall" answer as it does nothing to really identify and solve the real problem. But I do also appreciate the idea of "just get it fixed fast" so that's what I did.
    Anyway, I will now spend some time learning about Launch Services to see if I can get a more specific understanding of what happened.

    I'm getting error code 0x80070BC9 when trying to install iTunes

    These ones are typically caused by underlying problems on the PC that also often cause Windows Updates to fail to install. If we can fix the Windows Update trouble, we can usually get the iTunes trouble cleaned up en passant.
    Go into your Windows update and try to check for new updates. If updates install, stock up on the ones you're behind on, restarting the PC if requested to do so. After the restart, try installing iTunes again. Does it go through this time for you?
    If windows updates fail to install, go into your Update History and doubleclick the failures. What alphanumeric codes appear for you? Are they also 80070BC9, or some other number? (If they're another number, what number are you getting?)

    It appears that LabVIEW DAQ support was not installed.
    Run the installer from the CD, choose custom install, and make sure that the DAQ driver installation is checked as well as support for LabVIEW 6.1.
    If it is checked (indicating it was installed) then try uninstalling just the driver portions and reinstalling it.

  • Projector killed hard drive under newly installed yosemite??

    hey folks!
    i connected my macbook pro (mid 2012, non-retina) to a projector today and as i did that everything froze. i disconnected the projector, but no change. i forced a reboot and got a light grey screen with a blinking folder and question mark. it turns out my internal hard drive is dead.
    i updated to yosemite last week and have had smaller issus since then when connecting to a projector (black space where the keynote window was before which only vanished with a reboot).
    can anyone tell me, whether my hard drive dying has anything to do with the update to yosemite (my warranty ran out 2 weeks ago)? anyone with similar problems?

    I think it is very unlikely that the two are connected.
    It is more likely (though not certain) that something weird happened when plugged into the projector. Like a bad cable or a bad port that maybe allowed some kind of power surge back into the motherboard that might have affected the hard drive. But let me emphasize...this is a very unusual problem that should not have happened. Thousands of Mac laptops are plugged into projectors every single day in corporations and schools and universities. It is not a problem that should be expected to happen.
    Also, dying hard drives have not been reported by the thousands of Mac users who have also done the Yosemite upgrades. I have two Macs that upgraded to Yosemite without a problem.
    I don't know what the real cause was, but chances are it was a fluke. One possibility: The hard drive was already having undiagnosed problems, and this just pushed it over the edge.

    Hi Guys
    I always make "manual backups" (copy files and folders from iMac to External HD's) and this means overwriting existing files and folders on the external HD's all the time.
    Now many files are bigger than 4GB but only when I select a large amount of folders and files at the same time, to paste them on the external HD's, I get the "error code 0"...
    I reformatted the drives to Mac OS Journaled etc. but it didn't work
    What to do know? This freaks me out!!

  • New iMac with factory installed Yosemite underperforms compared to much older Macs. What do do?

    Very, very disappointed with Yosemite. Brand new iMac 27 lags awfully compared to my MB 17 and even MB Air. Discounting the fact that many apps will not even instal, those that do (and which never crashed before), fall apart on iMac at least once a day (Garage Band, Firefox, SoundForge, SpeakIt!). The most madenning thing is the networking – both Mavericks machines take seconds to copy 50-100Mb files to Time Capsule via wifi, while iMac needs minutes. Even reading folders on network drives takes forever. And sadly, network file swapping is a must, since AirDrop in 10.10.2 is totally useless (persistently fails half way). The only option seems to downgrade to 10.9... Any ideas are appreciated.

  • Error Codes 1630 and 1722 when installing FSX in Windows 8.1

    Multiple efforts to install Flight Simulator X Gold on my new 8.1 system always results in error codes 1630 and 1722 at the end of the installation process.  Lots of searching the net suggests that this not an uncommon problem.  After trying a
    number of possible fixes suggested by a Microsoft Support Engineer in a thread on the Microsoft Community Forum without success, he referred me to this forum.
    In summary: After initially transfering a working version of FSX from my XP machine to the new 8.1 machine with LapLink it worked flawlessly.  A subsequent misdiagnosed printer issue by Dell tech support resulted in a refresh of 8.1 wiping out FSX (and
    many other apps).  Efforts to reinstall FSX from the either the original disks or a newly purchased set of disks both resulted in the error codes at the end of the installation process. Failed resolution efforts include so far include:
    - All recommendations in kb/258496 (including Xcopy which appears not to work on 8.1 at all)
    - Clean startup procedure from kb/331796 (8.1 froze up hard in trying it)
    - System File Checker per kb/929833 showed "did not find any integrity violations".
    - Licensing Reset Tool program per kb/928080 resulted in: "Cleaning up Token Store at: C;\Program Data\Microsoft\SLDL\Software Licensing  Failed to delete the token store  ERROR --HRESULT 800405"
    Bottom line seems to be that this is recurring issue with 8.1 and FSX but neither I or the Community Forum have been unable to find an effective solution.  Any advice/help/recommendations would be appreciated.  Will be glad to provide needed additional
    info as needed.

  • Error code 50 CC desktop app install

    I tried to update the creative cloud desktop app and it has now disappeared, I tried to re-install the app but it failed with "error code 50". I searched this error code and followed the link in the forum replies http://helpx.adobe.com/creative-cloud/kb/failed-install-creative-cloud-desktop.html, this relates to error code 1. nevertheless I ran the cleaner tool and it completed successfully. i again tried to reinstall CC app for desktop and again got error code 50. Need this sorted asap!

    Sheenag99555967 did you also rename the OOBE folder after running the CC Cleaner Tool?  What operating system are you using?  What type of environment is this computer located in?

  • I keep getting error code 0x800700570 when trying to install Windows 7 via BootCamp.

    I have tried several times to install Windows 7 on an iMac 3.4 GHz i7 running 10.7.2. I have installed Windows several times in the past to other computers without problems. I have tried 4 or 5 times and removed the partition in between each attempt, alas to no avail:-( I keep getting the error code 0x800700570, which leads me to think something is missing, but what I don't know:-( Any thoughts??? Thanks in advance:-)

    That one's consistent with disk/file damage. The first thing I'd try with that is running a disk check (chkdsk) over your C drive.

    Vista instructions in the following document: Check your hard disk for errors
    Windows 7 instructions in the following document: How to use CHKDSK (Check Disk)
    Select both Automatically fix file system errors and Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors, or use chkdsk /r (depending on which way you decide to go about doing this). You'll almost certainly have to schedule the chkdsk to run on startup. The scan should take quite a while ... if it quits after a few minutes or seconds, something's interfering with the scan.
    Does the chkdsk find/repair any damage? If so, can you get an install to go through properly afterwards?
