Error Code -36 in Finder

Ok, first of all the following issue is NOT fixed by doing dot_clean <path name> in Terminal, as suggested by Googling. I've had that issue before with FAT memory sticks, and it works, but it does NOT solve the following issue (that issue was solved in 10.6.3 anyway, and my problem below is happening in 10.6.3 and 10.6.4).
Basically I have 17 mkv video files in my downloads folder, all 4.7GB each. I tried to move them to my external HD (connected to another Mac) over the network, as I always do when putting media on my Mac Mini, and it failed on the first one at 2.08GB with Error Code -36, full error:
"The Finder can’t complete the operation because some data in “filename.mkv” can’t be read or written.
(Error code -36)"
The same thing happened with files 4 and 9 (not at 2.08GB, but at some other point), but 2, 3, etc and the rest all moved just fine.
I tried copying them instead of moving them, exact same problem.
I tried using Terminal to copy then using the cp command, same problem (wasn't Error Code -36, but "Input/Output Error", but according to Google it's the same thing)
I tried putting them into a sub folder within Downloads and using cp -r to copy the whole folder, same problem.
I tried connecting the external USB drive (it's Mac OS Journaled by the way) directly to my MacBook Pro and copying them, same problem.
I can't even copy/paste them where they are (i.e. if I just select the first one and do Cmd-C, Cmd-V to make a copy in the source folder), I get the exact same problem.
I even booted into Windows 7 through Parallels and tried using Windows to copy them to the external HD, same problem (again, not Error Code -36, but some generic I/O error).
What I CAN seem to be able to do without error is move them around my MacBook Pro hard drive (not copy, but move).

If you are trying to write to a FAT formatted volume then the error is produced because you are trying to transfer files that exceed the 4 GB file limit of the FAT32 filesystem.
Otherwise the problem may be due to actual file corruption, filenames that are too long, or filenames with illegal characters. If you are trying to transfer a folder containing the files, then you should try copying each file individually which sometimes works.
Search the forums for other discussions of the problem as well as additional Google searching. There's a wealth of discussion on the topic. There are many different causes of the error as well as solutions.

I have been working to get Coldfusion 8 and Crystal Enterprise 10 to work together. The following were two approaches I knew of to try:
1) using Crystal "unmanaged URL reporting":

I got the CFREPORT tag to work but was disappointed to find that it only rendered the report in HTML. The reports we have been producing with our current configuration of CF4.5 & CR 8.5 can be saved as PDF's. So I abandoned the Coldfusion <cfreport> tag to see if I could get the Crystal "unmanaged URL reporting" to work. This included me trying to find any documentation anywhere to guide me along with going into Crystal Admin and 'experimenting' to see if there was anything I needed to do there to make the unmanaged URL reporting work.
Management is now telling me that producing the report in HTML is acceptable. I am now trying to set up a demo for management. When I went back into my CF code and uncommented the work I had done with the CFREPORT tag (which had been working at the time I commented it out), I receive the following error code.
CrystalReport Integration Exception.
Error code: 2147778144 Cannot find the QE property.
Error source: Crystal Reports ActiveX Designer
I have tried searching the SAP site to find more information on this error message to no avail.   Any guidance would be greatly appreciated.

Error code 3150 - Cannot find output destination. Need help to resolve

I just installed a new router running DHCP and now I'm unable to reach my printer from all computers. The error code says "Cannot find output destination. Check the printer power connection, make sure the printer is switched on, and then try again.: -3150
The printer is obviously powered on and connected to the LAN. There is an apparent IP address problem, however, I can ping the IP that seems to be loaded in the printer.
I'm using Mac computers and I seem to have recurring IP issues with this printer.

Cannot delete file from external hard drive (error code 36) in Finder, but Terminal is ok

I have a relatively new Macbook Pro Retina 15" and have a Western Digital 1 TB Passport. I've been using the passport for about a year now without any problems on older Macbooks in my house. I used to be able to read and write to this drive no problem. I am using the Paragon NTFS for Mac software in order to read and write to the NTFS drive. When I navigate through the drive in Finder, if I try to create a new folder, I do not have a problem. If I try to delete that folder I just created, I get this error:
The Finder can’t complete the operation because some data in “untitled folder” can’t be read or written.
(Error code -36)
The folder has nothing in it whatsoever. I just created it. But if I go to Terminal and I run
rm -rf "untitled folder"
This works fine. Why is Terminal acting different than Finder? This does not happen on my other Macbooks. Thanks in advance.

Thanx for such qucik reply!!! The pages were great, it had an answer for my problem, but unfortunately it also involved me dealing with it only on the MacIntosh HD itself, not on mounted external drive I suppose... So it didn't work they say that there is an icon in the left corner indicating locked folder - I don't see any icon on it. It says you can untick the box to unlock the folder - there is no tick to be unticked. Finally, they say that if I don't have permition or rights I cannot delete it. But how do i change permittion which already says that i can read and write in it? So everything appears to be normal only I cannot delete it. there is not even any warnig telling me I don't have enough rights, it just requires the password and after me typing it in it makes the sound of scraping paper but does nothing more. I aslo had some problems with emptying Trash after being seemingly succesful with one file and had got so far to have them appear in the Trash (no clue how this one actully got there though..) I followd the advice and emptied the Trash with Terminal. The Folder is still there but it shows 0 Kb... So far so good BUT: It is still on the external drive, so I obviously only managed to copy it into the Trash!!! Phew, innit a bit too tight to poor owners, this macbook?? I want my rights back!

one of the approaches as follows ( technical , not functional): on your error screen goto System-Status, double click on Program (screen)
and in this ABAP editor you could try to find out the place with that particular error code/number.
then to analyse the code (why this message is called).
to use this method you need to be able understand abap.
just in case, all messages exist in standard table T100, so you can search there by text error or message number.
from functional point of view you could try to find out the place in config (spro) where you can customize that particular message , say , error, or warning, or just skip. But this doesn't work always! Some of system messages are not configurable.

Windows Update Error Code 8007273D: Cannot Find Solution

When trying to update Windows, I'm running into error code 8007273D. When I click the link "Get help with this error", it takes me to a generic page. After doing a help search for this code, nothing turns up. After surfing the Microsoft website with this code, I just get a bunch of rabbit trails that lead to nothing. 1. The Windows Update service has been stopped.
2. Corrupted Windows Update Temporary folder.
In order to narrow down the cause of this issue and resolve it, you can refer to the following steps. After finishing each step, please check the result again on the Windows Update website.
NOTE: Some third party programs can affect the Windows Update service. If you are running any third party applications such as Spyblocker, Internet or web accelerators (programs designed to boost the speed of the Internet connection), security or anti-virus programs (Norton, McAfee, etc.), I recommend we temporarily disable or shut them down and then try accessing Windows Update later. Please understand that we are disabling these programs only for the purpose of troubleshooting and we can re-enable these programs after we finish troubleshooting.
Step 1: Verify the relevant Windows Update services

Hi,
It may happen happen due to permission issue when you are having SAN and sharing common trans directory now to check the permission of the file you have to login at os level and check the permission of the TR.
cd /usr/sap/trans/cofiles/
ls -l K904416<SID> - now here it will show the permission of the file please paste the output

Yes, the Old Master file has a folder for each year where I find all photos from that specific year. I am attaching a screen shot of the file.
In the meantime i have managed to download all photos (it did not download any video files though in mpg, avi, 3gp, m4v,mp4 and mov format) to a new iphoto library. Unfortunately the photos are quite mixed and often doubled up. I ma considering to purchase iphoto library which checks all duplicates in iphoto. this will save me a lot of time. What do you think?

I keep getting error codes when attempting to publish using FTP...

"The operation cannot be completed because one or more required items cannot be found. (Error code -43)." That pops up before I can enter my FTP password.
The other one is not popping up right now, but when I finally was able to enter my FTP password, another error code pops up. It was -36. Can't remember the words.

I got it to come up! The other error code says "The Finder cannot complete the operation because some data in "ftp://[email protected]" could not be read or written. (Error code -36)"
This is the on that pops up only after I enter the (correct) FTP password.

What is error code -43

Receiving error code -43 on Finder when attempting operations like change file name and retrieve file. Does anyone know the source of this problem or what can be done to fix it?

I was using Finder to open files, check their contents, and then close them. The files were .rtf type. After closing them, I would sometimes try to rename them to more accurately reflect their contents. At this point I would get the -43 error. If I opened another Finder Window and tried to rename the file, the action was accepted and the resulting name change would appear in both open windows of Finder. I was changing the name by editing the name on Finder and not using a "save as" function. I have done this type of file cleanup before and don't remember incurring these problems. Aplication manager gives error Code: U43M1U49

Hello,
i had running CS6 fine and up to date.
Then i downloaded Photoshop elements 11 trial and installed to chek it out.
After uninstalling that the problems began. So i uninstalled CS6, did run the Adobe creative suite cleaner and reinstalled CS6.
But still getting the error code. It finds and shows the updates but once started it says Errop Code: U43M1U49
I also have Lightroom 4 up to date and Lightroom 5 beta , thos run without problems.

When emptying trash I sometimes get error 500 or 502 and ask to stop or continue. either way trash gets emptied. Is my HD dying or is it something else? Many thanks

Say trash is empty I trash a file and click securely empty trash. I get above error click continue trash appears empty now but time taken too short. If there were dozens of files this error may appear after a few secs and on error trash would be empty but before the time this error started deleting that many files would take minutes.

I have an iMovie project in iMovie HD 6.0.3. (Mac OS 10.5.8)
It plays, but I cannot copy the file (including saving it to a flash drive). I get either a message
"the finder cannot complete the operation because some data in [name of
iMovie file] could not be read or written (Error Code 26)" or the
message "A project file is missing. The file [name of the QuickTime
movie inside the project.dv] couldn't be opened and is being skipped."
This happened suddenly, I was able to save a backup version numerous
times while working on the project.
I followed some of Karl Petersen's advise on apple discussions. I opened
the package contents, and everything seems to be there. The source file
(original QuickTime movie) is there and can be opened and played. I
replaced the current project file with the backup in the package
contents, but that did not change anything. I was able to export the
movie timeline into a new project as a single clip, but would like to be
able to copy the current project.

Make sure all drives are formatted as "Mac OS Extended". (Journalling preferred, but not necessary).
